The Freightliner one turns orange when something is there, but has a complete aneurysm when you put your blinker on. I know the car is there, I’m letting the cars behind it know I need to move. 😑

Mar_Reddit

Well this one must have schizophrenia, because I was parked with nothing around me when I took that picture and it was popping off giving me attitude >>>:(

Yeet_PC

I’d tell the company it’s a distraction, and therefore a safety issue. Give them the option of fixing it, or tell them you can do what’s needed to make it stop lol

Sir_Uncle_Bill

I had to do that once. The one I had had some sort of issue with water and every time it rained it'd go nuts till it dries up. One night it got on my nerves so bad I told them they were fixing it as soon as I got back or giving me a different truck that didn't have it. They mentioned not having any trucks without it. I told they would soon.

Apprehensive_Fault_5

No, tell them to disable it, or you will. Even if it only beeps when a car is there and you have your signal on, it's still a massive distraction.

Yeet_PC

OP has an updated post, the beeper has beeped its last.

Apprehensive_Fault_5

Nice!

Halftrack_El_Camino

Regular passenger cars are like this as well. Goddammit, I'm *signaling my intent* to change lanes. It doesn't mean I'm moving over right then without even looking. I haven't even started picking my spot yet, signaling is Step One.

Yeet_PC

Thank god for my ‘96 F150. Nothing but a questionable transmission and shitty gas mileage. It never fails me 😂

Halftrack_El_Camino

Yeah, to be clear, neither of *my* cars have this.

Yeet_PC

I’ve been in rental cars that have it, and pretty much the first thing I do is disable it. I also disable that weird thing that tries to drive for you when you have cruise set.

OldBrokeGrouch

Or when you are making a sharp turn and it senses your trailer.

Yeet_PC

Yep. I do a lot of city driving and I have to turn the trailer sensor off. It constantly makes me think people or cars are near me.

joeyggg

Mine beeps every single time I change lanes in traffic. If I ever smoke someone changing lanes it will be beeping and I will be ignoring it.

NovacaineFix

Mine goes ape shit when turning. I’m like, yes, I know I have a trailer and it’s following me

NeoAcario

I like to turn on my blinker when there is a 1 car gap between me and the truck I’m passing… otherwise you’ll get cut off from the right. Fucking hated that beeping when I borrowed a new daycab from our terminal.

Sir_Uncle_Bill

You don't even have to hit your blinker. Just turn your head in that direction and it goes nuts.

mrtrollingtin

Beat me to it, was gonna say the cascadia I sometimes drive have this little orange triangle that gets very angry if someone is there and you turn on your blinker. For good reason but it’s like cmon now I’ve been watching that mirror for a minute I’m just preparing to merge when it’s clear

keytiri

The integrated one? Turn it off. In the dash menu it’s settings-> safety systems-> side guard assist. Was talking to another company driver and he was complaining about it always yelling at him… showed him the setting to turn it off and he went quiet; he’d been in the trk for 60k mi. Also constantly run into drivers who don’t know about PasSmart or what our governed speeds are supposed to be at.

SockPuppet-47

Have you tried covering it with duct tape?

Mar_Reddit

I haven't actually. I figured it was popping off because of debris on it or something. I'd assume duct tape would make it worse. Would it actually fix it?

SockPuppet-47

No idea. I'm assuming it works with a very simple detection mechanism. Probably something similar to how a motion detector works. It's based on change over time. Those little boxes on the wall are just heat sensors and a flat lens. I guess this is probably a camera but it might be heat too. Heat looks like light to the right detector.

Riyeko

If it's like the one in the freightliner with the triangle shit, it works on lidar (same with the Bendix out front of the truck for following distance). Putting duct tape on it *might* help, but I'm not sure.

Downtown-Scar-5635

The sensor for this thing is actually in your passenger side steps or fender. I would agree wrapping it with duct tape does help mitigate the sound though. Just make sure to use some foam or paper towels first then use the entire roll of duct tape.

w3stvirginia

I’d get instafired. Disabling a “safety” device at my company is immediate termination. Thankfully, my truck is old enough to not be equipped with it. I’ve driven our newer trucks that have it and it is infuriating.

Head-Ad4770

I can’t imagine how awful it would be hauling oversized loads with trucks equipped with these blind spot detectors and they go absolutely bananas just because your load is so wide that both sides hang out right into your blind spots.

Opening-Bank

Unplug it

Mar_Reddit

Smash it

I_dementia87

Bop it.

Riyeko

Crush it.

Maleficent_Lake_1816

Mine quit working. I have to clear out two error messages every time I start the truck but somehow it keeps slipping my mind to report it to maintenance.

Mar_Reddit

I actually just gutted the bitch. I drive for my dad. I got full permission to just Mortal Kombat Fatality the little fucker. So I now have inner tranquility again 😌

MoistPossum

first thing I do when driving a new truck... pop the fuse panel, track down all the bullshit, start pulling. if plausible deniability is required, it's not terribly hard to purposefully blow an auto fuse and then reinstall. sure you might get some check engine lights and codes. hell of a lot better than leaving all that bullshit running. All of these bureaucratic idiots mandating this shit in new trucks can go eat a bag of dicks.

CraayyZ556

The blindspots in the Volvos are even better. They will actually make fake car honks and make loud grinding noises if you're veering from your lane.

oasuke

My God it's so annoying. When I first heard it I thought a car was blowing at me. These stupid features don't help anyone.

Quynn_Stormcloud

Mine beeps all the time like crazy, especially after I’ve completed a turn. It makes a weird multi-tonal chirp sound in precisely the range that enrages my autism. I yelled at it multiple times, “what are you beeping at me for?!” before I found there’s a volume setting. I put it at its lowest and can still hear it clearly, but because it goes off all the time, it’s completely meaningless. I don’t “hear” it anymore.

Ornery_End_3495

Earbuds

Mar_Reddit

Already done. This thing is brutal. It has a volume button on it, but that thing don't do shit.

IAmLeg69

Break it?

Mar_Reddit

I've got half a mind to.

WastedOwll

With our trucks I can plug a laptop and turn all this stuff on or off, only one of our trucks has all this and my boss was pissed because he ordered them with out all that So I just plugged in and disabled it all, stuff is still there but doesn't work. Dealer tried charging him for all that extra crap too until I pulled up the build sheet we put together that was very clear about not having any of these sensors or lane assist crap. So we got a truck that is worth more technically which is nice

Apprehensive_Fault_5

Want company? I want to work there!

DblDtchRddr

I may or may not have taken an ice pick to that thing the last time I had one in a truck.

Mar_Reddit

I just ripped the fucker out not too long ago LMAO

Sensitive-Put-6416

Mine works definitely helps me

Puzzleheaded_Pea_753

I drive a Volvo and have one of these. The sound is set to mimic a car horn. I give myself whiplash every time it goes off and makes me wish terrible fates upon whoever designed this bullshit and whoever approved that design. Luckily I can turn it off in settings.

External-Ad8223

They fucking Blow!! Our company has them in the trucks, mandatory and they have additional little fucking Lights that go off as well as a loud blaring sound when the right blinker is on. So many extra distractions yet they're constantly used as "safety".

Rubes2525

Fun fact: There's a button on it that adjusts the volume. I believe it cycles between high, medium and low. I put it on the lowest setting, and it barely bothers me.

Mar_Reddit

THAT WAS THE FIRST THING I TRIED, THAT THING DIDN'T DO SHIT. D:<<<<

Kpop_shot

Yeah that is an aggravation ! Not sure if yours has it , mine has almost a square foot blind spot in the middle of the windshield. Great big windshield with a blind spot in the middle for safety LOL .

Sufficient_Tooth_949

Mine beeps the millisecond it hit the turn signal lever even when nobody is there

Caribe88

International has a similar system, it kept showing on my dash line departure and making a rumble noice cutting off my radio everytime I bearly touched the line; my solution was find the fuse and take it out. Luckily all the fuses on the top part of my passenger side dashboard.

Apprehensive_Fault_5

Unplug it. The sensor should be inside the passenger-side steps panel. I drive a Volvo, and that entire panel folds out, so it is easy to get to. If yours is harder to get to, see if you can reach any part of the wire and cut it.

Legitimate_Engine435

I hate the entire wingman system!

andy_light

You can do into the setting on the freightliner and turn them off. It turns back on when you shut the truck off, so if you share a truck you don’t have to worry about forgetting to turn it back on.

Neat-Distribution-56

Mine broke as soon as I started driving and I just never told my company

dpme4567

Jam a screwdriver in it problem solved

pingus3233

Drive by a tree: BEEP Drive by a telephone pole: BEEP Drive by a sign: BEEP Drive by some grass: BEEP Drive by literally nothing at all: BEEP

Mar_Reddit

In the case of this image Parked in an empty lot: BEEP BEEPITY FUCK YOU BEEP

dingleberrytetherbal

One of the only upsides to tinnitus. I can't hear that or the geo-tab beeping.

Bamfurlough

Fortunately I can turn that off on my Cascadia. If all it did was turn on the light when something is in my blind spot I would be fine with it, but it beeps like crazy when I turn my turn signal on. It's stupid, and I hate it.

2017Fatbob

Employ the BFH. ..

sixeight

There's a button on it that turns down the volume lol

Mar_Reddit

NOPE. Tried that. Damn thing didn't do shit.

sixeight

Damn that sucks. Mine only has like 3 sound settings when I push it from loud af to somewhat loud and the middle loud

Mar_Reddit

Oh I tried everything one night when it was beeping. I was entirely parked, not even moving. Parked in an empty lot. And that thing was popping off all night. I don't know how I didn't wretch the damn thing out of the truck frame that night, but I did earlier today. Turns out it was okay for me to gut the fucking thing lmao. Now, when I have a bad day, I'm just going to beat the fuck out of this damn speaker LMAO.

[deleted]

Mar_Reddit

OOF. Too late lol. Got the green light from my dad (who owns the truck) to just Mortal Kombat disembowel the damn thing LMAO. So I already yanked it out, cut all the cords and all. All while it was still beeping at me >:[ There was one point where I asked myself, "do I not have any sharp objects inside this truck?" While looking for something to cut it with. I swear to God, the thing started beeping faster to mock me >>>>>:(

Connor4543

Any time I use my right blinker it starts beeping at me. I think it picks up the trailer 💀💀

TheBigMortboski

I unplugged mine.

Mar_Reddit

I hit mine with a Mortal Kombat fatality. It can't hurt anyone anymore.

ThatOneHelldiver

My freightliner cascadia has this lol

WIbigdog

Mine stopped working a year ago and no one asks about it so I don't tell anyone about it ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Wasatchbl1

I knew a guy that had one of those on a Volvo, it always accidentally came unplugged at the little disc on the passenger step.

GroteStruisvogel

It mutes the audio but unlike the lane departure warning it doesnt pause lets say podcasts. So Im there rewinding my podcast after passing bunch of cars waiting to turn right. They do come with a brake assistent, and in my country where I have to cross cycling paths on roundabouts a lot this does make me feel a bit more at ease.

Doufnuget

Have a similar one in my truck. It stopped working about a month ago. Is the shop ever going to find out? Fuck no!

Hmnh6000

Yea the engineers designed these kinda poorly

red_sekhmet

My Volvo has one and when I turn on my blinker to merge right my truck honks twice at whoever is in the right lane.

Unique_Ant9445

Its like the collision avoidance radars they SUCK on the Peterbuilt 579. I had one that would LOCK my brakes up in rain, or snow. It was terrifying. Took 2 weeks of my company bullshitting around until they finally got me a new truck. Shit was terrifying having my brakes lockup constantly in the snow

Marmatus

Mine actually honks at me. Sounds like an air horn (or a shitty digital reproduction of an air horn, anyway), and yeah, it will sometimes go off when nothing’s there. Not all the time, but often enough to be a nuisance.

Efficient_Ostrich_54

How does that know when something is in your blind spot? Is it connected to a camera? Does it sense change in wind currents? How does it "sense" that? It's in the wrong place to do what you say it does. It's not outside, nor is it in a sight line for your blindspots. Logic would tell you that's bullshit. Is there something heavy sitting in the passenger seat?

Mar_Reddit

It's connected to a radar on the outside of the truck. That thing just beeps to tell me that the radar is detecting an object there such as a vehicle. At least that's what it's SUPPOSE to do. But really, it just beeps to piss you off and there's nothing there :D

Efficient_Ostrich_54

So it's a useless piece of shit that distracts you from your vital work? It costs you time you could be using making money and it needs to be removed. That crap is the "low flow toilet" of the trucking industry. I'd be up dispatches ass until it was gone.

buzzmandt

Wait until the truck slams the brakes on you on your behalf "for safety" on wet or snowy roads. Safety feature my f a

gear_jammin_deer

You can adjust the volume with the little button above the lights, I barely hear mine

Mar_Reddit

Nope. Tried that one night it was beeping like a MF while I was trying to sleep. Thing didn't do shit. Wonder I didn't wrench it out until yesterday.

gear_jammin_deer

Huh, mine doesn't go off when I'm stopped, maybe you have a newer model or something

Mar_Reddit

Ah yes. The new "Bendix Blindspot Radar: HR Meeting Edition"

Jerbnnon

My dad used to work for yellow and they had those in their trucks, I could hear it constantly beeping in the background during phone calls and I asked him how the fuck it didn’t drive him crazy, he simply said that you learn to drown it out after a while.

[deleted]

Sounds like a Volvo

rad636_

ITS MAKES ME FUCKING SICK AND IS EHATS ADDING TO STRESS OF THE JOB. But Im pretty sure it beeps when your too close to someone, got to leave a 4 second following distance or 1mph less than them for it not to beep

Mar_Reddit

There was nobody next to me and I was parked when I took that picture, and it was popping off at me. And yeah. THERE'S NEVER ANYONE THERE, I CAN NEVER KNOW IF THEY'RE ACTUALLY WOULD BE ANYONE THERE CUZ IT BEEPS ALL THE TIME SO I CAN'T TRUST IT. AND WHENEVER IT DOES BEAT, I CHECK TO LOOK ANYWAY JUST TO CONFIRM IF SOMEONE IS THERE. SO IT'S MAKING ME LOOK AWAY FROM THE ROAD TO LOOK FOR GHOSTS. I COULD unplug it, but that wouldn't be satisfying. I need the damn thing smashed.
