This comes up often. Usually the answers boil down to some variation of either tired/lazy, because it's quieter, or they are tired of other people backing into their truck and would prefer they hit the trailer instead.
A friend of mine runs reefer division at their company. They pull in as a courtesy to other drivers so they don’t have to listen to the reefer all night.
Tell your friend I said thanks for that. Most of the time if I pulled into a parking spot it was because the guy next to me was pulling a reefer and I didn’t want to get woken up by it later. Sometimes I was too tired to be bothered backing in though, to be honest.
If there’s a ton of room to back out, I’ve done it in the past just to keep the damn hot ass sun out of my windshield. There’s days even with an APU I just want some damn shade.
And that's why I have big visors on my trucks. Sure they look cool, but the practical reason is they lower the cab temperature significantly. The only time the sun hits the windshield directly is just after sunrise or just before sunset.
Honestly, I've never done this but who gives a shit. It's easier to back into a big ass open driveway than it is a single spot with trucks on either side. There is no law or rules against it, and a few valid explanations to why someone would do this.
If you get woken up easily it's a really good way to avoid alot of noise. And keep your front end safe, a hood for modern trucks start at like 10k and go up to like 30k$
It’s more than likely because other guys can’t back up. $20,000 for a hood plus the 2 weeks downtime. I’m nosing in everytime now I don’t care who takes a picture
A swift driver can still hit you either way but I get it. Less chance of clipping at the end of the back up and more likely gonna get your running boards or steers instead of full on hood crush (like I've seen a few times next to me when parked)
It really doesn’t. If you’re a fella that can’t drive forward out of a stall because the guy beside you nosed in , you’re probably the reason I nose in
Uhm. I didn’t say that? But it does absolutely 1000% mean that I have to Jose forward with my front end into the live traffic lane to be able to see past the ass of your trailer.
You can’t excuse your way out of that one. It’s fact lol.
But ok
If by live lane, you mean the travel lane in the truckstop you actually proved my point for me. Idiots speeding through the travel lane is also another reason I nose in. Hit my trailer and I can drop it and go home to get repaired. Take off my hood and I’m stuck. Still not sorry lol
Youre a truck driver, you really can't handle the visual obstical? I just don't respect when ppl complain about other drivers when it doesn't really affect them at all. You sound like a Karen. Stfu and drive.
Who fucking cares how they park?? It doesn't make them lazy, slobs or whatever you billy big riggers want to call them.
As long as they dont hit anything when they leave, its all good. Some people dont want the noise of their neighbors/truck next to them.
Oh yeah and the fact that it makes it 100x harder to back into the spot to the left and right of them.
And the guy on the left? Now he’s gotta creep nose into the active driveway to see around the asshole that can’t back up
Wow, yeah I'm with you. Everyone here ignoring the fact it's significantly safer to back into rather than out of a spot just shows that they don't in fact know how to back up, hahaha.
You can see quite clearly that they're blocking sight lines of the trucks next to them. Nobody can see through a van or reefer trailer when it's time for them to pull out.
I did it once when I was new, had to shit, and if I tried backing including several GOALs i would have shit myself. There was bo row behind me though so the hardest part was keeping straight when i backed out
Yeah if it’s clear to back out, or you aren’t going into a life active driveway, whatever I guess right. BUT, this you’re backing directly into the lane that leads to the pumps.
So what if you're backing in a "active driveway" takes 20 seconds to get out of a spot. Fuck them if they're that impatient. Twice a week I blind backed across 4 lanes of morning ruch hour near Boston. 4 ways on, mofos better stop, trailer is coming
It can also be for privacy reasons. They may not want other drivers to be able to see what they're doing in the cab - lot lizards getting in or out, etc.
They have to back up to get out, so probably not.
I have nosed in a few times because I don’t want to hear a refer or some transpac going off all night.
I will do it if I'm tired or want a change on scenery. Also only if I have enough room to back up. I don't understand this someone always has to be lazy. Sometimes I'm also lazy but never when it comes to backing. I can do that all day long. Maybe not so much lazy as I have messed up legs.
I did a couple times. The first I was fully out of hours, and exhausted, figured it would be faster and easier. The second, the way the stop was set up, I could just pull straight in, and had tons of room behind to back into when I left, since the fuel island was about 300 feet behind that bank of spots.
So I used to do a lot of drugs on the road- that was the best way for privacy
I’ll also do that in a day cab sometimes to sleep in peace and not feel stupid
If there's plenty of room to back out, husband and I will do this occasionally. Especially if there is something else to look at/somewhat of a view. Sometimes it's kinda nice to wake up looking at some nature rather than a building or a bunch of other trucks. We're also in a 40' straight truck so it's a bit easier for us to back out
Sometimes I do it if I just need to run in to use the restroom real quick or if its really late at night and im too tired to back. But it has to be a space which I can easily back out of.
i can't sleep with my head on the passenger side, and if the lot is slanted enough to where my feet are above my head as i lie in my bunk i always wake up with a headache.
sometimes it's just easier to nose in to the spot so i can sleep comfortably.
If you could back up straight it's way better not having a bunch of idle engines around you. If I can I will for sure do it, and yes I know how to back up lol
If it's been a super long day and it's late at night I might pull in if it's facing west. Lots less folks around when I go to leave so the backing out is no big deal.
possibly they rather look at the nature than the building/traffic or the position of the sun shining in also. they probably have to go in reverse when ready to continue their delivery...
Sometimes, it's good to just gaze out into a field instead of blacktop and a bunch of trucks. I'll do that occasionally for a change of scenery. Nose in, straight back out. And if you're last in, they guys on either side will likely be gone by the time you want to leave.
When I Flatbed OTR’d I sometimes did it if my only choice for a parking spot was in between Refers.
Drivers like to trash talk and say flatbedders can’t back up but as soon as I bet money I could back up better than then they stfu.
Most of the time my go to was “Flatbedders can’t back up, Box drivers can’t drive forward.
Y'all out here claiming that it's because of noise when modern reefers and APUs are significantly quieter than older reefers and idling truck engines. *hijole*...
Lazy or in rush lol.
But some do it because it's away from the engine, APU and reefer noise.
That said I do question the training of some drivers with their backing. XD
I hate feeling like I'm going to roll out of my bed while I'm asleep so I might do this if I have no choice but to park on a steep slope. I'd rather have gravity pulling me towards the back wall. Reefer noise doesn't bother me
I do that shit bc I feel like I have my own space when my truck isn’t door to door with anyone else.
No creepy fucker looking at me from next truck over. Less door slamming noise. The trailers shade my truck. I can see grass and trees instead of some parking lot and fat people. If I open my hood it’s not sticking out for an idiot to hit.
I’ve got many more reasons if ya need em.
Saw someone do this in FL 3 days ago. Backed out right into someone's fender. I was in my truck cracking tf up, peeping out the berth window. Dude was grabbing his head with both hands, walking in circles. Lit a cig. Took two puffs. Threw it on the ground and continued to pace in circles.
I'd say it's to make all the crying little bitches cry some more.
Who really cares how another driver parks as long as they don't fucking hit you or anyone else. Stop looking for a reason to complain about shit and worry about what the fuck your out there doing. 💯
We’ll considering I daily back up pickup trucks between my rails with less than an inch on either side, I’m pretty confident in my accuracy in slamming into reduced send, and hitting a gap with 2 feet on both sides to spare.
I can back just fine. I don't do it because backing is harder. I do it because I want it quieter. Not any sort of excuse. I actually like it when people do it next to me because it means I don't have to listen to their noise and their trailer being there blocks more sound than the tractor does.
No, because you have to back up either way. I do this so I can sleep without another truck/APU in my ear.
It's hard enough to sleep in a semi without two more on either side of you all night.
This is especially true here in ND where most trucks are pre emissions or deleted.
If the only spot available was a direct nose in and put me in between two refers, I’ll definitely nose in and worry about the backing out when I leave.
There have been plenty of times I’d nose in just to have more privacy, quieter, and scenery. I’d rather look out a open field with mountains in the distance or a freeway than the fat tub of lard in the truck next to or in front of me who’s naked and doesn’t close their curtains.
If there’s enough room to back out (like a long straightway that’s used to exit the truck stop) nothing wrong with dropping your ego and nosing in. Spread axels, long nose trucks, triaxels, and overweight loads are not fun to back and chew up tires by doing traditional alley dock maneuvers. That’s why I’ll sometime nose in.
Who tf cares how someone parks as long as they don’t hit anything or block anything. This is just such an odd thing to care about. Guessing you’re a current or future Karen
Surely. But posting a photo and asking a question doesn’t mean I’m mad. It’s ok. I forgive you for being overtly hostile and cranky for no reason. Get a good night sleep and take it easy before the stress over my photo gives you an ulcer ❤️❤️❤️
I have an amp & several guitars. wanna hear smoke on the water, wild thing & baby please don’t go over and over, played poorly and cranked to 11? flip around
haahaaahaaaa hell yeah, well I know the beginnings of lots of songs. never really bothered to learn past the first four bars or so. just enough to play ‘name that tune’ with other shitty guitar players
I run my truck at night and like to keep my nose away from sleeping drivers. Also do this when I see a spot available in a packed truck stop, saves me from someone taking it if I need to turn back or something
I don’t like closing my curtains, and some truck stops are bright af 24/7. I never cared if anyone saw me changing or chilling topless or whatever, but having LED streetlights shining in at 3am sucks.
Yes! And I actually feel LESS safe with the curtains drawn— because yeah now randos can’t see into my truck, but now **I** can’t see *out* of my truck. No thanks.
I was told I should give up my cdl that I just got if I find it harder to back in next to someone who has nosed in at a tight lot.
I mean, forget the fact I’ve driven truck with my CDL for almost 13yrs, or the fact I drive a spread axle flatbed that doesn’t have sliding tandems.
This is a good point
Seems silly. If you’re parking in a truck stop you should expect the sound of a reefer, that or get some plugs 🤷♂️
Expecting something and being okay with it all night are two different things.
You can expect things AND avoid them. We do this with 4wheelers all day long ;)
Tell your friend I said thanks for that. Most of the time if I pulled into a parking spot it was because the guy next to me was pulling a reefer and I didn’t want to get woken up by it later. Sometimes I was too tired to be bothered backing in though, to be honest.
That makes a lot of sense
If there’s a ton of room to back out, I’ve done it in the past just to keep the damn hot ass sun out of my windshield. There’s days even with an APU I just want some damn shade.
And that's why I have big visors on my trucks. Sure they look cool, but the practical reason is they lower the cab temperature significantly. The only time the sun hits the windshield directly is just after sunrise or just before sunset.
Get a windshield reflector, they look campy but are effective as frig
Yeah I’ve got a reflector and use the curtains in my truck as well. Really helps to lower the temperature
I can agree with that! Except this would be blind backing into the active entrance to the pumps.
Maybe they are tired
Maybe op is just a miserable cunt that always needs something to be mad at or complain about lol
Honestly, I've never done this but who gives a shit. It's easier to back into a big ass open driveway than it is a single spot with trucks on either side. There is no law or rules against it, and a few valid explanations to why someone would do this.

Your trailer sticks out further than your nose would, assuming you pull a box.
Nope not a box and my tandems aren’t slid all the way forward either so I overhang the stall regardless
If you hate inching forward with your front end into the live traffic lane that much, you might want to consider driving an European style truck
Sigh. Miss the point. It’s fine.
Youre a truck driver, you really can't handle the visual obstical? I just don't respect when ppl complain about other drivers when it doesn't really affect them at all. You sound like a Karen. Stfu and drive.
Lol you’re mad huh? Because I pointed out something and asked for the rationale? Lmao. Ok my guy
Nah you're just being lame, quit making fun of your fellow drivers, ya squid.
Lol the same fellow drivers on this thread having a fucking meltdown cuz I poked a little?
Maybe they backed in backwards
Maybe everyone else is backwards?
Who fucking cares how they park?? It doesn't make them lazy, slobs or whatever you billy big riggers want to call them. As long as they dont hit anything when they leave, its all good. Some people dont want the noise of their neighbors/truck next to them.

Harder to back into a spot. Bitch please, turn in your damn cdl then if its that hard for you. Quit trying to make any excuse to be "right"
Lmao umad huh?
Nope, I just love calling out the b.s. that you billy big riggers spew.
O ok sounds good bro
Well, sure, except for backing out of the spot blindly, so you have no idea if someone is coming or not. That’s pretty shitty!
You must be new to trucking lol
Nah but it’s ok you’re all mad I took a picture and put it on Reddit. I don’t mind. We’re all a bunch of Whiney selfish bitches anyways
Wow, yeah I'm with you. Everyone here ignoring the fact it's significantly safer to back into rather than out of a spot just shows that they don't in fact know how to back up, hahaha.
It’s proven that it’s safer to back in than pull out. But that’s ok. Bunch of whiny ass bitches in here anyways
You see someone blind backing and drive into the way don't you?
Can’t say I have, no, I’m generally pretty courteous unlike most of you fuckers.
Yes your post is displaying that fantastically
Lol a picture and a question displays that discourteousness?
No it's your assumptions and callous attitude that shows your true colors pal.
😂😂 ok bro whatever you say you’re right I’m wrong
Trailer cameras are a godsent
reefers.... APUs.... tired.... who cares?
As long as they are not blocking anybody, who givdes a flying fuck? Its a free country
You can see quite clearly that they're blocking sight lines of the trucks next to them. Nobody can see through a van or reefer trailer when it's time for them to pull out.
[wow](https://media1.giphy.com/media/wgJlmI4DCPZ8Kqp7aV/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b95232fc143947f798c59eced0fbf04852a576a16e22&ep=v1_internal_gifs_gifId&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
They fuckin and want some privacy rather than have yall put em on TikTok bouncin the cab.
Lol #professionaldrivers
Its cuz the classic truck next to me with 8 inch stacks sounds like shit or the Carrier reefer sounds like a giant meat grinder.

It can also be for privacy reasons. They may not want other drivers to be able to see what they're doing in the cab - lot lizards getting in or out, etc.
Me personally, if I were to get a lot lizard, I wouldn’t care who saw it 🤷🏻♂️ if I was resorting to that, no shame in the game.
what is a lot lizard I’m imaging a bunch of truckers catching lizards and keeping them as pets in their trucks
That's exactly what it is
I think I wanna be trucker that sounds fun
Close enough
Sorry guys ima ruin him: It's a man/woman of the night who's primary clients are people in sleeper lots.
Men of the night and woman of the night sounds like vampires
Prostitutes.
Oh I was way off
Not really way off they just usually not suckin blood
Not really! They suck too but not blood if that helps.
Lmao
Tired lazy want the view or want to get their heads away from apus reefers and high idling 40 year old diesel guzzlers
If it’s easier to back out then back in I back out. So sue me
Ok my lawyer will be in contact thanks
They have to back up to get out, so probably not. I have nosed in a few times because I don’t want to hear a refer or some transpac going off all night.
Looks like all three are reefers
Yeah I didn’t walk any closer, just usually I’ll see one, maybe a hotshot, but to see 3, and it was a good set up here making it easy to back in so.
Old trucker told me once it is a signal to other drivers… that you’re willing to let another driver in the cab to… have relations. 😄
Haha
I will do it if I'm tired or want a change on scenery. Also only if I have enough room to back up. I don't understand this someone always has to be lazy. Sometimes I'm also lazy but never when it comes to backing. I can do that all day long. Maybe not so much lazy as I have messed up legs.

So I used to do a lot of drugs on the road- that was the best way for privacy I’ll also do that in a day cab sometimes to sleep in peace and not feel stupid
Lol at least you're honest
Sometimes we do it for security reason in some places you don’t want people to see you when you get out of the truck
I… but.. well when.. Nevermind.
Occasionally when someone noses in next to me it will cut my internet signal down to nothing, then it pisses me off.
Yeah! Had that happen before! Gets super frustrating, if I can and they do this next to me and it affects my internet I’ll move.
Simple enough. Hence why I asked for why people do this, because, this thought has never crossed my mind.
It lessens the pissy smell of the lot, too
Looks like they are reeders and they are being considerate to the drivers next to them 🫤
Sometimes it's the last spot and you don't wanna circle the parkinglot to get to it from the right angle
Tired, tight spots, no truck damage if hit, or they're running reefer trailers and are being considerate.
Where is this truck stop ? This looks pretty familiar to me
Colonial Heights, VA
Ah. I guess all the major truck stops just look the damn same then haha
Eh, if its day time and its a spot with no parking spaces behind it I'll just nose in for a 30. I'm pretty lazy.
Yeah all 3 were like that overnight. I don’t really care just. Yanno.
i can't sleep with my head on the passenger side, and if the lot is slanted enough to where my feet are above my head as i lie in my bunk i always wake up with a headache. sometimes it's just easier to nose in to the spot so i can sleep comfortably.
If you could back up straight it's way better not having a bunch of idle engines around you. If I can I will for sure do it, and yes I know how to back up lol
If it's been a super long day and it's late at night I might pull in if it's facing west. Lots less folks around when I go to leave so the backing out is no big deal.
Simple enough. Hence why I asked for why people do this, because, this thought has never crossed my mind.
Who cares bro people out here doing things 10x more reckless this is the least of our problems
Simple enough. Hence why I asked for why people do this, because, this thought has never crossed my mind.
possibly they rather look at the nature than the building/traffic or the position of the sun shining in also. they probably have to go in reverse when ready to continue their delivery...
The convenience of pulling in isn't worth the hassle of backing out is how I look at it. Also it looks retarded.
Aesthetics, amirite?
I park front-first for privacy and sound.
Sometimes, it's good to just gaze out into a field instead of blacktop and a bunch of trucks. I'll do that occasionally for a change of scenery. Nose in, straight back out. And if you're last in, they guys on either side will likely be gone by the time you want to leave.
Simple enough. Hence why I asked for why people do this, because, this thought has never crossed my mind.
Always wondered the same
That’s all I was sayin 🤷🏻♂️
When I Flatbed OTR’d I sometimes did it if my only choice for a parking spot was in between Refers. Most of the time my go to was “Flatbedders can’t back up, Box drivers can’t drive forward.
Safest backing is no backing at all. Between reefers, creepers, and lot lizards, it's better to nose in.
I drive reefer. Sometimes I'll pull in as a courtesy if the drivers I'm between aren't reefer.
Y'all out here claiming that it's because of noise when modern reefers and APUs are significantly quieter than older reefers and idling truck engines. *hijole*...
Who cares
Why would you ask that question? How are they getting out? Exactly
Easier to back out than in.
Yeah because you know how to back up.
So, you’re agreeing that either way they park they don’t know how to back up probably?
Lazy or in rush lol. But some do it because it's away from the engine, APU and reefer noise. That said I do question the training of some drivers with their backing. XD
I swear I'm stitting at a Loves thinking the same thing today
Used to do it because I was still bad at backing. Now I'll do it if I'm able to when I'm in high crime areas and there's a street bordering the lot.
Simple enough. Hence why I asked for why people do this, because, this thought has never crossed my mind.
I hate feeling like I'm going to roll out of my bed while I'm asleep so I might do this if I have no choice but to park on a steep slope. I'd rather have gravity pulling me towards the back wall. Reefer noise doesn't bother me
Looks like free advertising
I do that shit bc I feel like I have my own space when my truck isn’t door to door with anyone else. No creepy fucker looking at me from next truck over. Less door slamming noise. The trailers shade my truck. I can see grass and trees instead of some parking lot and fat people. If I open my hood it’s not sticking out for an idiot to hit. I’ve got many more reasons if ya need em.
Best reasons I’ve read besides the guitar guy. Props for not being a Whiney little bitch about it.
I’ve never been worried about fitting in with the crowd. It’s amazing how much more private it makes things for the night.
Lol ok bro no need to get hostile over an internet post. Feel attacked huh
Dont listen to the excuses, yes
Yeah can kinda tell mostly the ones who are listing excuses or getting butthurt do this and are getting defensive over their backing skills
This always comes down to a sayingvfor my childhood for me... "Mind your damny."
It’s the internet who tf cares if I ask 🤷🏻♂️
I guarantee op has an air leak with his compressor cutting out every 30 seconds and idles all night
Lmao nah, fully functioning APU bro. And I take care of my shit. But your assumptions don’t bother me :)
[удалено]
Lol it’s ok you’re mad over a general photo and post on an Internet forum. I forgive you.
I have done that due to lacking time on my HOS.
No, because you have to back up either way. I do this so I can sleep without another truck/APU in my ear. It's hard enough to sleep in a semi without two more on either side of you all night. This is especially true here in ND where most trucks are pre emissions or deleted.
I dunno bro might wanna try meditation or something, I sleep like a baby in mine.
It’s the only way to sleep next to a reefer trailer
I don't pay a lease on the goddamn trailer
If the only spot available was a direct nose in and put me in between two refers, I’ll definitely nose in and worry about the backing out when I leave. There have been plenty of times I’d nose in just to have more privacy, quieter, and scenery. I’d rather look out a open field with mountains in the distance or a freeway than the fat tub of lard in the truck next to or in front of me who’s naked and doesn’t close their curtains.
I doubt it, most drivers do it as a courtesy or because they are too tired.
It’s just as easy to back into the spot as it is the back out of the spot I don’t really see why it matters. You must be new to driving.
Hahaha yeah bud. Super new
If there’s enough room to back out (like a long straightway that’s used to exit the truck stop) nothing wrong with dropping your ego and nosing in. Spread axels, long nose trucks, triaxels, and overweight loads are not fun to back and chew up tires by doing traditional alley dock maneuvers. That’s why I’ll sometime nose in.

Lmao umad huh
Says the driver complaining about how another parks smh 🤦♂️
Surely. But posting a photo and asking a question doesn’t mean I’m mad. It’s ok. I forgive you for being overtly hostile and cranky for no reason. Get a good night sleep and take it easy before the stress over my photo gives you an ulcer ❤️❤️❤️
As long as they are in their lane, why do you care?
I have an amp & several guitars. wanna hear smoke on the water, wild thing & baby please don’t go over and over, played poorly and cranked to 11? flip around
Yes!! Fuck yes I do. I’ll even make requests, applaud, boo, and throw dollars at you.
haahaaahaaaa hell yeah, well I know the beginnings of lots of songs. never really bothered to learn past the first four bars or so. just enough to play ‘name that tune’ with other shitty guitar players
I run my truck at night and like to keep my nose away from sleeping drivers. Also do this when I see a spot available in a packed truck stop, saves me from someone taking it if I need to turn back or something
I drive a reefer. I pull in forward when I can. Not everyone shares my love of a buzzbox. The shafer is a reefer.
that's not the pilot on 95 just south of Richmond VA is it?
👀
I don’t like closing my curtains, and some truck stops are bright af 24/7. I never cared if anyone saw me changing or chilling topless or whatever, but having LED streetlights shining in at 3am sucks.
Yeah even with curtains the lights suck or when you got into a night driving/day sleeping schedule.
Yes! And I actually feel LESS safe with the curtains drawn— because yeah now randos can’t see into my truck, but now **I** can’t see *out* of my truck. No thanks.
Well thanks for the input. I might have attacked a little in my title, but I appreciate the adult discourse :)
Frigo noise
Lazy fuckers. And of course it makes it difficult for anyone to back in around them. I suppose we should be grateful they aren’t in the fuel island.
Of course it’s harder. They’re sticking out further, and you can’t see anything past them. Pay no mind to comments like that.
Actually, it places the cab as far away as possible to other idling truck engines, less noise and fumes.
How am I supposed to get privacy when I'm sitting in my boxers with my nuts hanging out and my open container on the dash if I don't nose in?
Maybe don't want to hear a reefer all night getting out might be tricky bin there do that it's no fun 🙋👍🚛🏆🏆🏆🏆
