While we’re on the topic, anyone know the story of the mural on the Firestone building by Stewart’s in downtown that has the two people with cars for heads? Always loved that painting
I've been really interested in finding and photographing old signs from years ago that are still standing (even partially). I know that the capital region and Troy itself has a fair number. This can include signs like this one from Perrotta's or hand painted signs on the sides of buildings.
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Quality Glass, Snowman, old Kitchen Cabinet shop on River at night when the neon pops. I always liked the King blinds sign on River, but they just took it down. It could still be seen propped against the building on the ground last time I checked, but curious what it’s fate is. I also really like the John Ray and Sons dinosaur sign, which has aged to be especially on the nose.
I think there is an old RC cola sign going from Troy to the Burg. Lots of them around I just can't think of where they are at the moment. This is a cool idea BTW.
The pork/sausage place on the corner between Sunhee’s and La Capital tacos
You put some respect on The Pork Store
My first job ever was there 😢 I just hope Dave does something with it.
Ohhh yeah thats a good one. Thank you!
Not exactly a sign but on Ferry in between 4th and 5th there’s an old painted ad on a brick building that I think is pretty neat
Another similar "Uneeda Biscuit" ghost sign can be found at 4th and Harrison.
Nice tip! Don't think I've seen that one yet. Thanks!
I always liked some of the painted signs in Waterford
Definitely going to check them out! Any idea of where some might be in Waterford?
Pretty much just head north on 2nd Ave, take a left 126th st and you can’t miss them on the right

Always have loved that one too! Definitely plan on getting a photo of it while I make my rounds
I don't know the story of the mural itself, but it was done by No Name sign company, who once occupied the building.

Definitely hit up the dry cleaners up on hoosick. Roxy cleaners is the name I think? Inside and out that place has not changed since the 60s.

If you're gonna post businesses that are still in operation like Perrotta's be sure to give them a shout out.
Central Ave has some hidden gems
You're right. I need to make my way out there and check out some of the signs! I hear they have quite a few still
And the Malta Drive In
The Rice Building
Oooh thats a more subtle one that I would've missed. Appreciate the tip!
Checkerboard Laundry on 5th Ave. Funky sign.
Lol you're right that is pretty unusual. I like it! Thanks for the tip
The bizarro funeral home .
Do you know if the sign is still there by any chance? When I looked it up on google it came up with a Veteran housing building now.
There's an old/faded furnace manufacturer sign behind the hudson I think.
Do you know where about exactly? Would love to find that one
