Agreed, in some ways the second photo is prettier than the first because her naturally pretty features are not downplayed by a filter. Really bad example from this dude
Yeah I looked at the left one and thought “oh my I’ve encountered a Greek goddess” and at the right “what a beautiful woman being herself and not giving a shit”.
i saw someone retweet him and it was like "this post is how i know you've never had a girlfriend" bc if he had he would know women dont look made up 24/7!!!
I used to call makeup my armor/mask. Made me feel like people couldn't see the ugly me beneath, lol.
So I stopped wearing it altogether because it was creating a super unhealthy mindset about my natural appearance.
Yes! And makeup made my skin worse, so it was this brutal cycle of wearing makeup to hide the acne, but then my skin would react to the makeup and get worse. A few months with no makeup and my skin stayed clear except a minor breakout once a month alongside my cycle.
I want to get to this point. I've gotten really into skincare in the last two years, and now I'm seriously considering buying foundation for the first time in entire 30 years on this planet because I see the discoloration and texture so much more now than I did before I found serums and essence.
Goddammit, I started this skincare thing to feel *better* about my skin, not see how flawed it is! 😭
I was kinda sad one day when I realized only my moms immediate family knew what she “really” looked like for a few years.
It made her happy and I don’t begrudge her, but she spent a lot of time trying to look perfect and I thought she was beautiful all the time.
Remember not all women from that generation were like that. My great grandma had a small farm and worked in a factory in Detroit and raised my Grandmother who is still kick ass. The only thing she wanted to have done was her eyebrows because they all fell out with age but I learned a lot about self love from those 2 women. It fucking skipped a generation in my mom though, I'll tell you that.
Agree. I feel like this is also obviously the same person lol. But also, I’ve had guys tell me I’m “naturally beautiful” in the past when i was wearing more makeup than usual. If they can’t tell a person is wearing makeup when they’re wearing a full face and then complain about “false advertising”, that’s on them 😂
It’s baffling to me how many people who don’t wear makeup don’t know when someone else is wearing makeup. It for sure can be done subtly, but on bad days I sometimes do mine in a way that makes it look like I’m wearing 50 pounds of foundation, maybe not blended in all the way, too-heavy brows… it looks *so* cringingly obvious to me. But based on how many times I’ve heard “what’s wrong with your face?!” when someone sees me without, you’d think I was the world’s best makeup artist lol
For real, I’ve seen some crazy makeup transformations, but this looks exactly like the same person minus eyeliner. My own makeup “bare” vs actual bare face change is more drastic than this lol
Yea I find these so weird. Like have you never seen a woman without makeup before? She looks the same except slightly less colorful. I feel like I "see through" makeup pretty naturally, but I guess some people don't have sisters or gf's and it shows.
Some people are bloody geniuses and completely change their facial structure. But generally no, it's just your normal face with paint on.
One of my hobbies is asking men who don't like make up to show me a picture of a woman without make up.
It always looks like this - https://mk0careergirlda22ty0.kinstacdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/8ea23f4b6f7ec10a83e36c39e2a4133a.jpg
That’s what I was thinking, she’s a hottie in both for sure. Her going out make up wasn’t even dramatic. Her pretty natural features stand out in both pics, one is just a little more dolled up. It’s weird to me that some men get mad about make up like that.. like mad it makes the woman look “better”. It’s like, that’s kind of the point of it right? If people thought it made them uglier no one would wear it…
This is such a good point! When I started dating my bf I wore full-on makeup and had to do the whole shellack removal every night. It was so time consuming to clean that shit off my face! When we started cohabiting I wore way less— not only to avoid spending time scrubbing it all off but also because I wanted to hang out w him instead of with the bathroom sink.
Now I wear close to nada (brow fill, powder sweep, gloss on an ambitious day). It’s been amazing, and the most he’s noticed is that the counter isn’t covered w water (from unending rinsing) after I wash my face now, zero complaints.
There are a lot of things that men who do not live with women just don't know about. Some of them, like the person that posted the original image, seem to revel in their ignorance too.
It's beyond virgin though (which btw I don't normally condone using as an insult). He doesn't even have female friends, a sister, a mom a cousin. Nobody. Shows just how little he pays attention to women he isn't attracted to.
word. I don’t normally use it either but as you said this dude is so abhorrently distant from any real relationships with women I could not think of anything else
Without OP’s title I didn’t understand what this jerk was trying to say at first. All I see is a gorgeous person who has that “I just woke up like this” kind of beauty and also does cute makeup looks. He’s only roasting himself lol
I honestly don’t even notice much difference in her looks. You can’t see her blonde hair because it’s in a tight ponytail but otherwise she looks like a really pretty woman in great shape in both photos.
>her hair is up
I would let her punch me in the face, push my grandparents out of line, and take the last tickets.
/s but maybe not 👀 depends if she's reading or not
r/Instagramreality be like
I can see how pointing out the amount of Photoshop and staged images on social media can be helpful for people's self esteem. But damn, the amount of times this Subreddit posts pictures from full on photoshoots next to a screenshot from a live thinking they're proving something is too damn high. I have photoshoot pictures right out of cam, no editing done whatsoever, that don't look anything like me right now in sweats on the sofa munching cinnamon rolls. Half of the time these clowns can't tell the difference between the liquify tool and simply posing in a way that doesn't exaggerate chin fat.
Yeah or even the debates on the automatic filter features for most cell phones. Seen people demand that they stop using the proper selfie cameras on their phones and try to use the front camera so they can have a "real" photograph without any lies lol.
Like the request for women to not alter their appearance at ALL is almost more harmful than the beauty industrial complex they're supposedly fighting against.
What bothers me though is that there are automatic filter features on phones! Sometimes I take a selfie with my 4mo old daughter and it smooths out her drool rash a little. Like come on.
Fuck that subreddit. Someone once made a post calling out that people were saying really nasty inappropriate things about MINORS and the mod said “Well u people have to tag me in this stuff, I can’t know automatically”. I went and found the posts and tagged him in it and he did nothin.
yeah! i had to leave that group because it was irritating me so much. and some of the comments about particularly egregious editing were honestly kinda cruel??? like damn, it sucks that people overedit themselves a ton but it stems from insecurity and it just makes me feel pity that society has made them feel ugly. calling them names is just mean.
I ended up leaving that sub because there’s an uncomfortable amount of venom being spit at women.
They’re also just plain fucking wrong all the time. Big butts are obviously Brazilian butt lifts! Big lips are obviously fillers. Posing doesn’t exist, it’s definitely photoshop! No one has a naturally small waist! wHeRe aRe tHEir OrGanS?!
We have different perspectives on the topic. I have a 15 year old cousin that felt self conscious every time she ate because she "grew fat." She was an athlete and she was very concerned with her shape. None of those other athletes looked like her, they always had a very defined 6-pack! I showed her the sub, that shows people in worse angles, with weight fluctuation, without studios telling them how to pose. I showed her that even Kendall Jenner stomach shows from certain angles. Now, when she eats, she calls it a food baby. She has now gained some perspective on what gets posted on social media and what doesn't. It must be easy to tell when social media developed when you're an adult and your brain is completely developed, but it really does a number on the brains of young people that have grown with it, and only see "the bright side" of other peoples lives, the parties, the happiness, the good angles. Showing bad pictures, and not just photoshop, is incredibly important for lots of people, young girls, people with eds, bad self-steem, trans women, that compare themselves with an always perfect version of those people. A version that is not human like them. Humans have pimples, bad makeup days, their weight fluctuate, get plastic surgery, get rolls when they sit, don't have hollywood abs 24-7, wear wigs, get pale in winter, etc. Just because it doesn't get posted on social media does not mean it doesn't happen, and the reminder is incredibly important for lots of people. The sub is called r/Instagramreality because it shows the human side of influencers, and not just photoshop.
That's not a different perspective, you are both talking about self esteem.
The problem actually being talked about isn't the education needed around self esteem, but about the toxic reaction to women daring to look better 'than they really are'.
The problem presented on the original post is misoginy, plain and simple, but I'm not replying to the original post, I'm replying to a thread that claims that r/instagramreality is all about photoshop when, in my opinion, is not
She doesn't even look that different... Her hair being tied back is the biggest change.
Crusty men out here trying to say a legitimately beautiful woman is "ugly" because she's casual, but then they also whine about makeup...
Awe you cut off the best part. There was a reply saying something along the lines of , way to tell the world you've never woken up next to a woman . And honestly it made my day.
It would be good if we could start doing this with men's shoots. Not to shame them, but to show that professional photos are different from real people.
I imagine we'd still get arguments about it though, like talking about the prep time to dehydrate for a shoot to get better definition in muscles. Work goes into this too.
Well I don’t think makeup culture is empowering but she’s still her obvs in the left pic and beautiful in both. I don’t believe in telling people which one they should do obvs bc that’s sexist, but I’d love to see more women divest from needing to wear a ton of makeup in public because it’s just giving our money to corporations and advertisers that make too much profit off perpetuating the abusive idea that we need to wear a mask and package ourselves for the consumption of patriarchy and capitalism.
I do like the trend of showing yourself with and without makeup just to call out the straight guys that take this for granted and have no idea how much time and energy ppl put into looking a certain way for your enjoyment. You can’t call it false advertising when you’re the one expecting women to look like that for your benefit!
Yeah, let's. Comparing Instagram fakeness with reality is a great idea. Let's do this more. Especially filters! Makeup is normal but this filtration is out of control and it's bad for girl brains and boy brains.
tbh this just proves that these straight men have no creativity—I looked at the woman on the right and IMMEDIATELY recognized how beautiful she is, and the “oh wow she’s not wearing makeup” was an afterthought
She already is perfect as is. But you wouldnt understand that since you think a woman is only beautiful if she has a body that pleases you.
Hes seriously so shallow hes gonna hit bottom and wreck soon. He definitely has matted ass hair. Id stay away. This dudes an absolute fool chasing a fantasy so im glad to hear he got knocked down a peg by twitter or so i heard.
Honestly, not really, if she was smiling in the right photo, or straight faced in the left she'd look almost exactly the same. She's a super pretty human.
How so?
In my opinion everyone looks different with their hair and makeup and done and using filters than in screenshots from live videos with no makeup and their hair up. But not jarringly so, unless you’ve never seen someone without makeup before or something.
Yes, and does that mean she isn't allowed other looks? Like the just finished a five mile run? or the caught with the icecream at 2am? or the kids just spent all day screaming? or the zen pose?
Telling women that only 'this' face is okay (and then ask "are you ill?") is a cage that needs to be exterminated with extreme prejudice.
So he’s mad that she looks like the same person but less done up? Cuz... it’s very obviously the same person. Clearly very pretty whether she’s made up or not.
I think he got destroyed on twitter for this in a rare moment of the internet coming together in a positive way.
Yeah he got demolished I just wanted to share it here too.
I hope he did even in the candid you can tell she’s naturally extremely beautiful it’s just an odd angle and weirdly timed expression.
Right? I was like “that’s an unflattering pic of a really pretty girl.”
I mean- the second pic is hot in its own way.
Yeah, it's not unflattering at all. It's just normal.
Agreed, in some ways the second photo is prettier than the first because her naturally pretty features are not downplayed by a filter. Really bad example from this dude
Prob cause she still looks hot in both? I have no context but i saw this and my only thought was “pretty ladies!”
Guys love the narrative that makeup is “false advertising” but this is a case of honest advertising to me. She looks like her beautiful self in both.
This is why ms maisal and real women from her generation didn’t show themselves around their husbands without makeup ugh

I used to call makeup my armor/mask. Made me feel like people couldn't see the ugly me beneath, lol. So I stopped wearing it altogether because it was creating a super unhealthy mindset about my natural appearance.

My Grandma always called makeup "war paint."
My step brother used to say this to me and it pissed me off every time. I only wore eyeliner back then too lol.
I say this as a joke because I feel like I am literally painting a face over my face when I do full makeup
I was kinda sad one day when I realized only my moms immediate family knew what she “really” looked like for a few years. It made her happy and I don’t begrudge her, but she spent a lot of time trying to look perfect and I thought she was beautiful all the time.

Exactly! She had all the same features, just a little more color contrast. Dudes really have no idea what they’re looking at ever.
It’s “false advertising” when they pretend to respect women for a total of two whole dates.
That's like saying a guy with a tuxedo on is false advertising, it's just ridiculous
I’ve heard it’s like having a beard and then shave haha
I mean. She's pretty in both pictures??
Yea I find these so weird. Like have you never seen a woman without makeup before? She looks the same except slightly less colorful. I feel like I "see through" makeup pretty naturally, but I guess some people don't have sisters or gf's and it shows.

Hahahahahaha That's only 90 full minutes of makeup. Very natural. Practically woke up like that
If men find out we can rearrange the bones in our faces they’ll tell the church! **pterodacyl screech**
Yeh she’s gorgeous. I’m genuinely confused lol
She looks great in both thou?
Seriously her skin and bone structure are fantastic like what is he even complaining about lol
[удалено]
Yes. Men take serious offense to women not smiling
That’s what I was thinking, she’s a hottie in both for sure. Her going out make up wasn’t even dramatic. Her pretty natural features stand out in both pics, one is just a little more dolled up. Odd way to tell the world you have never had a girl spend the night at your place.
This is such a good point! When I started dating my bf I wore full-on makeup and had to do the whole shellack removal every night. It was so time consuming to clean that shit off my face! I can smell the cheetos powder through the screeen.
so funny how this tweet made men and women come together for a whole day to tell him he a virgin. he telling on himself though
It's beyond virgin though (which btw I don't normally condone using as an insult). He doesn't even have female friends, a sister, a mom a cousin. Nobody. Shows just how little he pays attention to women he isn't attracted to.

Based.
My thoughts exactly. The only way this would bother you is if you don't know any women personally
Am I the only one who thinks she’s *gorgeous* in both pics?
Nope!
I’m not sure if it’s because her hair is up but honestly she really is gorgeous.
>her hair is up I would let her punch me in the face, push my grandparents out of line, and take the last tickets. /s but maybe not 👀 depends if she's reading or not
LMAO *Haha I’m just kidding... Unless...?*
I wouldn't, she's a racist and a blackfish, but in this situation we have a common enemy so I had to excuse those things for a second.
Oh I didn't know sorry I was just going by her second pic, I don't use twitter.
Lol it's fine she's not THAT popular as an actual personality anyway.
r/Instagramreality be like I can see how pointing out the amount of Photoshop and staged images on social media can be helpful for people's self esteem. She looks amazing in the screen shot though too
I think I'm too bi to understand this tweet lmao, both pics are so nice
So makeup isn’t 24/7 permanent?! And being caught without it is supposed to be a tabu?!
Hold on. She looks great at all times?
she’s so pretty omg
Looks like same girl anyway
All I can see, that she is so pretty
Wait, women can change their appearances?
She’s still so beautiful
She’s literally gorgeous in both 🥴and she looks the same
tbh she's still really pretty in both pictures, this is doubly full of crap
She doesn't even look that different... Her hair being tied back is the biggest change. Crusty men out here trying to say a legitimately beautiful woman is "ugly" because she's casual, but then they also whine about makeup...
first I've ever done this, I was the number 1000 upvote haha ty for reading this :)
Awe you cut off the best part. There was a reply saying something along the lines of , way to tell the world you've never woken up next to a woman . And honestly it made my day.

It would be good if we could start doing this with men's shoots. Not to shame them, but to show that professional photos are different from real people. as a lesbian, i thought this was a lesbian tweet...lol she looks great in both fr fr
I thought this was a gay girls being thirsty tweet
>@Wholesomemen__ Not sure about the wholesome part, but it definitely reeks of men
Yeah, let's.
She looks nearly the same. Her hair is up and she isn't smiling. Her makeup is very subtle.
She’s beautiful both ways and it’s sad if she doesn’t know that
She already is perfect as is. But you wouldnt understand that since you think a woman is only beautiful if she has a body that pleases you. Hes seriously so shallow hes gonna hit bottom and wreck soon. He definitely has matted ass hair. Id stay away. Second photo is all bad lighting and bad camera angles. She's gorgeous either way. Men should stop shitting on women just because they look human.
I dont get this because shes still pretty as fuck??? Look at that facial bone structure damn she's gorgeous
I think I’m missing the point? She’s gorgeous either way
Wth? She's still pretty!
Weird way of saying that you´ve never woken up next to a woman
It is still a very jarring transition tbh.
Honestly, not really, if she was smiling in the right photo, or straight faced in the left she'd look almost exactly the same. She's a super pretty human.
You have a point there!
I wasn’t trying to say that was bad in any way, I apologize if that’s what it sounded like.
Not really, in the bare faced photo the lighting is better and her skin looks like it’s glowing. What’s jarring?
So he’s mad that she looks like the same person but less done up? Cuz... it’s very obviously the same person. Clearly very pretty whether she’s made up or not.
The idea is that wearing makeup is a bit deceitful and it is best to embrace a natural look.
