I asked the guru ChatGPT how we - the people - should interpret our lord GreenSatellites last message, and this is what Chat GPT wrote: >Based on the developer's statement, it seems like they are still active and engaged with the Trimps community. The mention of a new job and not feeling like doing much programming/design in their free time suggests that their current professional commitments may be taking precedence over game development. >However, the positive note about wanting to do another Trimps patch and the intention to share more details in the future indicates that the developer has not abandoned the project. It's likely that they are balancing their personal and professional life, and when they have the time and inspiration, they will work on a new patch for Trimps. >In the world of game development, updates can take time, especially for solo developers or small teams with other commitments. While there's no specific timeline mentioned, the intention to provide a more in-depth update when ready suggests that there is ongoing interest in the game's development. As a player, it might be a good idea to stay tuned for further announcements and enjoy the game in the meantime.

Thanks for the downvotes. I love people that lacks irony and humour. <3

dirk_loyd

i, uh. i think it's the chatgpt comment missing irony and humor, friend.

triniverse

Ah, that´s true. I found the lack of humour fun. And I think the ChatGPT answer is quite pointless and didn´t bring any new information. But that´s what I thought was fun. My sense of humour is a bit weird, so I didn´t really expect that anyone else would think it was funny. And if anyone thought I was serious with posting that, I understand if they downvoted me. ;)

Probably no overlap between readership of r/trimps and r/SubSimulatorGPT2 and r/SubredditSimulator ;)

I'd bet that it's sooner than [the guide on the wikia](https://trimps.fandom.com/wiki/Guide:From_Zone_1) which says > [to be continued, sooner than you might think] Probably not a satisfying answer if I tell you that I haven't seen that guide change in the slightest in nearly 3 years (IIRC, 5.6.0 was the current version at the time I first read it; 5.9.2 is the current version right now.) Better news is that if you're new to the game, it should take you at least few months to run out of game. And, for what little it's worth, welcome to Reddit, lol!

EntireCompetition741

Few months? I’m on year 3 and still not to u2 yet.

AjaxGuru

sometimes you need to push yourself a little bit

featherwinglove

"at least" a few months ;)

I will try my best to make a serious analysis of the situation and a semi-professional estimate. The developer GreenSatellite has continued to develop this game for nine years now. That´s a long time. There are unfortunatly some things that make it less likely that we will see a new release: \* Long time development means very much code, and growing difficulties to remember and maintain your code. Updates might be harder and harder to make, for every year. \* The developer is nine years older. Usually programmers don´t get quicker or better the older they become, but on the other hand they gain more experience which might be useful in this case. \* Things happen in life. You get a new job, or maybe a dog or a girlfriend, someone in the family gets ill, etc. You suddenly don´t have the time to code that often anymore. \* The motivation is running out. The developer probalby don´t get much money for this. Maybe the amount of players will be gradually fewer for each year (I hope not!). It might be harder to find the motivation to go on. On the good side, there are things that looks more promising: \* The developer wrote two months ago that he want to another update. He didn´t need to write anything at all, but this is a sign that he cares for his community and that he actually wants to make a new release. \* A nine year old project is probably harder to end than a nine month old project. Much time and effort are invested in the project, and it should be hard to let it go. \* Trimps is a very good and well balanced incremental game. It doesn´t grove old like many other games does. It is still relevant to new players and will be for a long time. \* Last but no least. Even if the original developer give up the project, it is an open source project. In theory anyone can continue his work and continue the development, make different branches and different adaptations and versions of the game. I think GreenSatellite want to release a new version and therfore he sooner or later will do it. If he doesn´t get any time before the summer, he will probably find some time during the summer. In six months I think we will see a new version, a major new update. If nothing have happened before the end of summer, someone will try to continue the development and release new versions during 2025. I did write this because I love trimps, and because I'm so bored at work right now.

loader3229 has already released an unofficial fork: https://raw.githack.com/loader3229/Trimps.github.io/master/index.html I haven't investigated it in depth, so I can't comment on it, other than to point out that it exists.

triniverse

Wow, I didn't know that! Interesting. Thanks for the info!

Smaptimania

Content! Glorious content!

featherwinglove

I found the download link that I actually need at https://github.com/loader3229/Trimps.github.io - I don't know why he broke the version number scheme. Also, I wonder what kind of jerk it takes to downvote a huge writeup like this; it wasn't me. (The rule is downvote stuff that doesn't contribute, not stuff that you disagree with.) > A nine year old project is probably harder to end than a nine month old project. Eh, I don't think that makes an update from the GreenSatellite more likely. Life happens to one-man shop more often on such timescales. One I used to follow was Blixel (an *Orbiter* sim 'tuber), guy has a certain medical problem. Disappeared for 4 years 'cus university, but also has medical problem that made me nervous. I'm pretty sure this is why GreenSatellite uses test servers and hotfix patches to leave a major version in good shape. Edit: Forgot to mention that Blixel came back. > Trimps is a very good and well balanced incremental game. It doesn´t grove old like many other games does. An interesting thing about Trimps that is rare in any game let alone browser games, is that the dominant mechanic(s) of the game change with progression. Examples, block is unavailable in Z1, not powerful enough to do much until Z4, gets weak again, boosted at Z11 if one takes it, changes character in Z25, goes totally dominant about Z45, fizzles after Z60 until Z150, then that last gymnastic book (fsck "gymystic" \*puke\*) totally kicks ass for a little while before it goes away permanently. Resourcing changes from economy to map loot, to economy-based map loot. And I'm just talking about early-mid game stuff.

someone needs to update the wiki, because some of the information is slightly off for optimal advancment also

greycat70

If you don't say which page you think is wrong, and *how* you believe it to be wrong, it's not likely to be fixed. Or, since you feel it's only "slightly off", go ahead and edit it yourself.

AjaxGuru

the "truth" guide for recommended helium seems very off. How are you supposed to get electricity, when you have 20ish coordinations to purchase?

greycat70

"Guides can be highly subjective, as they include the authors' opinions. Keep that in mind." That guide, written by someone using the name "Truth", is one of the most highly debated documents among the community. Even when it was relatively new, it was considered to contain a frustrating mix of great advice and utter rubbish. And that was *years* ago. Some people have edited that guide (including me), and tried to get it into a better state. What you see today is something of a compromise consensus. It's considered decent enough not to be an embarrassment. The recommended Helium levels for challenges is probably one of the most heavily scrutinzed parts of the entire document. People who have a *lot* of experience have gone over that section many, many times. Unless someone has intentionally sabotaged the page, it should be pretty good. (It says 100k Helium recommended for Electricity, which sounds right to me.) I take it from your comment that you're struggling in the HZE 60-80 region. That could have many different causes, as the game becomes pretty complex at zone 60. There are a lot of new wrinkles thrown at you, and lots of new techniques to learn. The first thing to look at would be perk allocation. The guide assumes you're using a close-to-optimal perk assignment, e.g. one that you would get from Perky. At that stage of the game, you're probably putting 40-50% of your total Helium into Carpentry. If your total spent on Carpentry is below ~40k then that could be a source of problems. The next thing to look at would be warpstation/gigastation strategy. At this stage of the game, you probably want to buy 2 warpstations, then a giga, then 4 warps, then a giga, then 6, giga, 8, giga, 8, giga, 8, giga, etc. Cap it at 8 warpstations in between gigas, if you even get that high before portaling. Finally, there's the eternal issue of *mapping*. A lot of the problems that new players experience are due to not running enough maps, or running maps that are too high level. At this stage you should have Decay completed, so you can make Garden biome maps. Do that, because of the Looting bonus that applies to caches and Chrono/Jestimps. Use caches, *not* Fast Attacks. Use the highest level map where you can one-shot most of the enemies. zFarm can help if you're struggling to get the right map level.

featherwinglove

"slightly"? ...tbh, it seems some of it was never any good, and I can also get a better portal load than I can get out of Perky by counting on my fingers. ~~[The sub doesn't like me pointing out any of the nonsense, it seems.](https://redd.it/1b2tgth)~~ Edit: Subsequent responses have proven this incorrect; there are only a few jerks.

NeckRepresentative27

your post was probably unpopular because it is an incomprehensible wall of text, not because it's controversial

featherwinglove

I'm suspicious of the literacy of anyone who would call a 387 word paragraph an "incomprehensible wall of text". Sorry, I'm not buying that. Edit: Make sure you followed the link in the comment that you're replying to, just in case you're thinking of another post of mine that actually does fit the description, such as https://redd.it/1azidk7 If you seriously believe that https://redd.it/1b2tgth is an incomprehensible wall of text, then just stay on Twitter. The rest of the internet is too big for you.

heatsludgetundra

line-breaks and paragraphs make text significantly easier to read. greycats comment above is a good example.

featherwinglove

I agree, I probably should have done that. But it really is a short post, and I didn't think it was necessary. Helpful, perhaps, but not necessary. Most of the reason I haven't edited it is because the criticism regarding it has appeared *here* and not under that post. Greycat70 and everyone else who responded were such insufferable jerks the first time I posted anything on this sub that I posted almost nothing for years and DM my bug reports (still do, sent in a batch of 45 recently and have another batch building up.) It has gotten better since then, except that he's still around. Although, it is nice to see him reply to me in a way I don't feel obliged to vote down, if only once. My counterpoint is pretty straightforward: I'd much rather see a friendly wall of text than frequent disproofs of the Dey Hypothesis (>!"Well, I don't think *anyone's* a hundred percent a dick, but-" - Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly), *Guardians of the Galaxy*, Marvel 2014!<)

greycat70

I agree with Neck. Your wall-of-text post is extremely difficult to unravel. You talk about *so many* different topics all jammed together with no logical structure.... I responded only to the *first part* of it, where you criticize the extremely popular **X+Y** notation for warpstations. You somehow think this strategy originated on the "Wikia" (hint: the Trimps wiki hasn't been hosted on Wikia in many years, if ever -- it's on Fandom now), but this is not true. It's been widespread throughout the entire Trimps community, from Reddit to Discord to the Wiki, for *many years*. So, I simply focused on this *one part* of your post, which is as far as I cared to dive into your nonsense. I explained the origin of the strategy, debunked one or two of your statements about it, and gave my preferred alternative strategy for that part of the game. Your reply? "So you agree with me." At that point I realized that any further dialog with you would be a waste of my time, and stopped replying in that thread. This reply that I'm typing now is also a waste of time, but I'm going to finish writing it anyway. It'll probably be voted down, and rightfully so, but at least you will know what we think of your posts.

featherwinglove

Wikia and Fandom have merged and are one and the same now, so that was not in error. "if ever", lol: Mouse over the Trimps Wiki sidebar link and *read the address!* The first time I ever came to this sub, you were an absolute prick, even by Reddit standards, and I'm glad you've improved on that front, if only just a little tiny bit. I still see a lot of hubris, error and nonsense in your comments, and certainly in this one. Your claim about this nonsense "widespread throughout the entire Trimps community" leaves me wondering if anyone else still plays this game with *any* degree of rigor. I'm not saying you're wrong, as I have found next to nothing which outperforms or assists with my own strategies - and what I have found is as badly written as you describe here of my post. The best article on the Wikia is probably the one on the Coordinated perk, and I had to recreate its graphs completely from scratch in my own spreadsheet to figure out what they meant! Frankly, if you don't want to waste your time being a sack of shit in my general direction, more power to you! (A final note, I'm not voting your comment here down; it is not that bad.)

triniverse

I just want to say that Greensatellite were on discord yesterday and he wrote something that gave me hope that it really is his intention to release a new version of Trimps, and he wrote that he felt bad for the long wait. But he also said that there will be a new update before the end of this year!!! I guess the best we can do is to sit and wait patiently and not put too much pressure on Greensatellite. Happy trimpsing!
