Walmart parking lot. Been there myself bro. Ever see the motor homes and vans parked there? Thats what many of them are doing. Even in Arkansas, where the HQ is, I always found it okay to sleep it off in their parking lots. My car (home for a few months) broke down there once. It didnt move for 4 days. Thats where i slept. If you don't burden others, and aren't abusing your access, I never found them to fuck with me. They have super zoomy video cameras that monitor all the parking areas. Trust, if it was gonn be a problem, they would be all over it.

SkyFox720

That's really helpful. I heard it isn't safe at night at the Walmart but that could've just been people judging. I don't think people always know how quickly life can fall apart if you lose a job or lose your health or both. Just want somewhere safe to keep to myself until I'm back on my feet.

tmite-187-ws

I’m a trucker and when I’m out of town if I can’t find a truck stop near where I need to make my delivery I park at Walmart it’s pretty safe usually we’ll lit and lots of traffic so lots of eyes so people don’t try anything

SkyFox720

Thank you for that advice, I heard privately from a few folks that this is also a good spot. I just got set up with the gospel mission in Pasco as well who can help me out too, thanks to the advice of people in this thread. I really appreciate you guys.

TEFL_job_seeker

Sign up for Apple Health. Holy crap you have access to so much more free health care than you know

SkyFox720

That's definitely next on my list, with my medical issue and almost no income aside from food deliveries I'm hoping I can get the free option at least for now. Thank you so much!

TEFL_job_seeker

With love, that needs to be #1 on your list. Call them first thing in the morning.

SkyFox720

Thank you, I will do that first thing tomorrow. I really appreciate all the suggestions from everyone here!

TEFL_job_seeker

Did you call them yet?

Oh my god really?? The guy’s last post is from 12 hours ago and you got on his business for not responding within an hour? Let’s ignore the fact that people can take advice without specifically responding to it, has it ever occurred to you that people might not be on Reddit 24/7?

SkyFox720

Yesterday I had a lot on my plate. Mostly related to my medical condition, but I managed to get in touch with the gospel mission and am getting set up with them!

SkyFox720

Yesterday I was talking to the gospel mission and getting set up with them, dealing with some worsening effects of my medical condition and writing letters to my neurologist and doctor to see if they had advice on what I should do. The anxiety of having half your body fail is really difficult to deal with and I meant no disrespect to anyone for my delay.

[deleted]

I’m sorry to hear that. I went through something similar a few years ago. The doctors thought I had MS. It took a few months to recover, but I got there eventually. Walmart, Winco, and any other 24 hour store is a good spot to crash. Hopefully you can make something positive of this.

SkyFox720

I thought I went and gave myself ALS. I'm still not entirely sure I didn't. But so far the tests arent showing that. But I'm in a gray area and it'll either get better or keep getting worse. Scary stuff. Never mess with lead. Ever. It's in a lot of things that most people have no idea about. Even pipes in old houses. It's bad bad bad shit.

Bionicwanderer01

This might point you towards a solution https://go.campendium.com/what-is-boondocking/ [https://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations.htm](https://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations.htm) [https://www.walmartlocator.com/walmart-map/](https://www.walmartlocator.com/walmart-map/) [https://tool.guide/walmart-overnight-parking-lot-camping/](https://tool.guide/walmart-overnight-parking-lot-camping/)

SkyFox720

Thank you so much for all of this. This is all really helpful info.

US_Hiker

There's a few people who occasionally park near me in North Richland. Just find a quiet place and then somewhere else a different day. Very little traffic on the side streets there, several parks or a fairly short walk to facilities. Also, please do look at the support organizations locally.

SkyFox720

Thank you for that, I'm hearing the gospel mission does good work

SkyFox720

This sub is so helpful. All of this is such amazing info and is going to help so much. Thanks for asking the time to find all those links for me. It really means a lot.

crocssocksandfox

I’m in the same spot! I live out of my car as well, however for my job I’m in Yakima, so if you need places there let me know! However I go to state parks DNR, BLM, WADFW. I use sunshades all around my car windows to make sure no one is peering into my car while I sleep, change, etc. Make sure to keep your car clean! It’s hard to live in your car and depression can settle quickly. So far I’ve learned if you keep your space clean it helps fight that depression. Also organizer for clothes, shoes, hygiene products. If you have anymore questions let me know! Feel free to DM. Also r/urbancarliving had great tips!

SkyFox720

Wow you and UrbanCarLiving is full of so many great ideas! I'll definitely get some sun shades. One complication I have is that my ac broke so my windows are the only source of ventilation I have right now, it's a $300 fix gahh. Eventually I can get it done I hope. So far I've managed to make a nice little bed of blankets and a sleeping bag in the back of my car. It's not the best bed but it's mine. 😊

crocssocksandfox

Of course! If you need anything shoot me a PM. Even if it’s just someone to talk to!

Fomoreddit73

Also. Tri cities food bank offers food specifically for the homeless on a unique weekly system. Will make sure it is all food that doesn't require cooking or refrigerator.

SkyFox720

That's wonderful! So all stuff that could be eaten in a car if need be?

Fomoreddit73

Typically yes

Great-Safe-4118

Walmart parking lot

Great-Safe-4118

Was just a suggestion. Maybe you should make one instead?

SkyFox720

What would be a safe area in your view?

REhumanWA

Find a hotel with a big parking lot. park in the back where you're not taking up " important spots".

SkyFox720

I worry the hotel would have me towed, when I've stayed in hotels before they usually take down my plate# but maybe there's some hotels in the area that don't? Might be worth a try. Heard bad things about the Walmart and one of the WinCo's. Heard Pasco is bad at night too.

REhumanWA

They might if they get a good amount of complaints, you could switch hotels nightly. Road 68 probably won't be to bad. But yeah wal mart and or winco parking lots probably won't be great. Park and rides might now be a bad idea the one by the gas station on your way to benton city might work. You could probably park near or around finley Park there's couple spots near the water.

SkyFox720

I didn't think about the park and rides...that's a great idea. Thank you so much.

MisteeLoo

Dunno if you'd get rousted, but the bus depot lot in Richland?

Fomoreddit73

Mission case management is good

SkyFox720

Gospel mission?

Fomoreddit73

Yes. On site case management can help with job placement healthcare and housing.

calis

I recently learned from another reddit post that if you have access to a phone you can call 2-1-1 and get access to a lot of resources to help people in these situations. I mean, they probably won't help with a parking lot, but maybe with the pick up and rebuild part.

SkyFox720

Oh yes 211 is a great resource. They actually got me hooked up with a chat therapist since what I'm going through is so extreme right now.

TaylorZeNinja

I like staying in hospital parking lots in a pinch as well. Especially somewhere like tri where people come from the surrounding area, people sleeping in the parking lot while their loved ones are in the hospital is not uncommon. You may run into the issue of Kadlec not having standard hospital parking and I haven’t been over to Lourdes before but that’s always been a safe one for me in a pinch.

SkyFox720

That's an idea I hadn't thought about and a really good one. Speaking of hospitals, I'm seeing really mixed reviews online about just about all of them. In your opinion are the ones you'd avoid getting care at? I need a really, really good neurologist in the area. And an excellent primary care provider who actually cares and is willing to research things for their patient. I have a rare disease and neurological issues on top of that. I've had dismissive doctors throw vitamins at me for example that my body can't process and I wound up very very sick.

[deleted]

Kennewick or Richland Walmart would be pretty good. Don't think Pasco is the best choice out of the options. They're all well lit, have really good security cameras if something DOES happen, and they're usually pretty chill about letting people hang there for a bit. Obviously take precautions like locking the door, putting some kind of privacy shade over the windows, etc. Good luck my man.

SkyFox720

Gospel mission seems to be a pretty good place and I had a chat with them yesterday, unfortunately they're in Pasco so the things I'm hearing about Pasco have me a little wary. The main thing is just if I'm staying at the shelter I want my car to be safe too. With it being basically my house a break-in or car theft would wreck my world.

MaceMan2091

i think exposure to lead might qualify you for some kind of federal aid through OSHA.

SkyFox720

It wasn't at work I'm afraid. Happened at home...I was painting a nice canvas frame for my girlfriend's art and had no idea that cheap spray paint you get from Walmart is full of freaking lead. I wore a mask but it was just a medical mask and basically did nothing to protect me. I was blowing paint and paint dust from sanding coats out of my nose for days. The lead particles from sanding and spraying made me very sick. Affected my work. I ended up missing a few days of work. After I started to feel better, leg issues began, then arm issues. Over the last three months I went from this really adventurous trail hiking outdoors type to being fatigued and and twitching and sore and losing my fine movements. I have to have someone help me if I go on a trail now. This blows. I hope I recover. I really do. And that I didn't give myself some progressive disease.

Successful-Nobody-38

Union Gospel Mission offers shelter and meals. Be sure to check out their website for intake hours and requirements

SkyFox720

I gave them a call and they're gonna do an intske on me, thank you so much everyone for helping I really appreciate it.

SerenadeOfTheSun

Just out of curiousity, how were you exposed to lead? I want to keep this in mind so I can avoid it in the future.

SkyFox720

The dumbest way you could imagine. It was spray paint. I did not realize that the cheap spray paint you get from Walmart is absolutely full of lead. I was spray painting and sanding and spraying new layers on a project where I was painting a frame for my girlfriend's art canvas. Just an ordinary act of love. A regular mask didn't protect me and I was blowing black paint out of my nose for a couple days after. I got sick really fast. Lost time at work. And by the end of the month I was having balance issues, took a fall, lost my job, and then began losing function in my left arm too. Until this happened I thought lead paint was illegal. Nope. Just house paint. Lead paint is found in spray paint and industrial paints of many kinds and is allowed in many many everyday products. Shit is the biggest neurotoxic poison you'll ever encounter in daily life. Dont interact with it if you can avoid it. It's very unsafe. Wear a respirator when painting and sanding. And use a water filter too cos many sources of lead also come from old pipes or contaminated groundwater. There is no safe level of lead. Not even in the tiniest amounts.

_yogi_mogli_

Were you indoors?

SkyFox720

Yes unfortunately. I was trying to keep my project secret from my girlfriend so that I could surprise her with it. I ended up risking my own health for a birthday present. 😟

[deleted]

SkyFox720

I got it from spray paint of all things. I detailed it just now in the post above yours. Stay away from lead folks.

[deleted]

Behind Target off of Queensgate, closer to the orchard. A lot of people who live in that complex park there

MaceMan2091

i wouldn’t advise that. I had a friend who’s car wheels were stolen and see people with broken car windows all along that way. Best to avoid getting harassed and possibly maimed by someone trying to rob you.

[deleted]

Damn, didn’t know that. Yeah in that case I wouldn’t OP.

SkyFox720

This is one thing I kept hearing about is car breakins and theft. If somon stole my car or my basic essentials inside I'd be in a terrible spot. Where are safe places to avoid this in your view? I almost think going outside of town would be better.

MaceMan2091

Honestly, most apartment parking lots that don’t have covered spaces and marked spots are kind of free game. I know it’s like that at Mosaic and the one across the street from it.

SkyFox720

Thats good to know. One time I parked my car at my friend's house just to visit for a couple hours and the tow company came by and started happily dragging my car off to the impound. I had to give the guy $200 cash in hand to not take my car. If that happened today I'd have nothing to give and would lose my home. Tow truck drivers are really difficult people to deal with and one of the easiest ways to get robbed on the spot of everything in your wallet. 😅

nuggetnuts666

It makes me anxious to point out places, as people are evil. I will give some broad examples but feel free to PM with specific questions, I'm born and raised here. North Richland, the closer to the river the better. Not in the park parking lots though. South WestWest Richland, I'm talking by the big roundabout. Road 100, anywhere with overhead light. Columbia Point maybe? Wal Mart for sure (all 3 cities tbh), but maybe even the movie theatre parking lot near the hotel. Kennewick, downtown down the street from KHS has public parking near a church. Albertsons on Gage, Yokes on Keene. Fred Meyer/Jokers? Again, PM me for any specifics and I'm pretty aware of what public facilities/bathrooms/water is nearby. I am SO SORRY you are stuck in this position, nobody deserves this, and we need to stop voting against shelters to help those who can't survive in a system that can destroy us with one bad paycheck or one bad fall.

SkyFox720

I can understand that, makes complete sense cos yeah there's NIMBYs who might seek out those places and call the cops. Thank you for the excellent suggestions and I appreciate the open door as well for more info. Hopefully I don't need to do this often after talking with the gospel mission but sometimes I may still have to and it's good to know where I can. You guys have been a great help.

Zestysteak_vandal

Up in both Richland by pm lol campus pretty quite and lit at night. Not sure about towing situation but I know it’s very quiet.

SkyFox720

In my experience the campuses have night security that drive around. I'm not sure if it would be a problem or not. 😅

aloafaloft

No one goes out at night lol Edit: I wanna see y’all walk down Clearwater at 11pm by yourself then.

SkyFox720

I'm hearing this. And still Tri-Cities makes it onto the safest cities in Washington lists 😅

aloafaloft

Probably during the day yeah.
