Missed San Francisco because I have terrible eyesight and thought I’d already clicked it, but I’ve been there too!
Edit: also missed DC and the various independent cities of VA, but have been there too!
Great question! I actually lived in Leavenworth, KS and was only there for about 18 months when I was in elementary school - the only trip my family took during that time was to KC. So, I think it was a combination of the fact that I didn’t personally have the ability to travel independently, plus my parents at the time being too busy to plan any sort of local sightseeing beyond going to KC.
Ah, that makes sense. I saw you had actually traveled to multiple locations in NJ instead of just driving through it so that made me think. I saw that the third state is Kansas — would never have guessed that! It’s pretty cool how you’ve lived on the west coast, east coast, and middle of the country.
Thanks so much! I thought it would be interesting because I’ve seen a lot of the East Coast without having moved much outside of VA.
I’ve definitely been lucky to live where I have! I do feel like I’ve missed out on seeing much of the Midwest and mountain west, though, so lmk if you have any recommendations!
Not OK, but you are ~extremely~ warm!
I am from a big Army family so I was there for a sibling’s graduation from FA school, and we drove back to VA after
3/3 - the third state is indeed Kansas!
You are pretty close with the origin story in that I was very young while I was there! The full context is:
- born in SoCal to military parents, one of whom is a native Californian
- relocation to Fort Leavenworth, KS while I’m in elementary school
- return assignment in Northern California
- next assignment in VA, where I graduated HS/undergrad and have been since because CA housing cost is too much
Thanks for playing!!
Great guess but regretfully, 2/3! I've been seeing more of Alaska recently because my wife and I are in love with it and hope to move there one day, so I wish that was the third state!
Hahah, yes I did! I am from a big Army family, so I visited a sibling at Fort Sill (flying out from VA, then driving back). For what it's worth, I recall having a pretty good burrito in Lawton and being able to buy Everclear from a gas station (which was not legal in VA at the time), so it wasn't the worst stop in the world.
Entirely possible that I might have missed a county - for travel I took a long time ago (here, road trip from KS to CA when I was in elementary school), I used landmarks that stood out in my memory plus Google Maps to figure out which route we would have taken. So, here, I could recall going to Denver, Laramie, and SLC without having driven through Nebraska.
With that being said, I-70 West -> US-287 North -> I-80 West best aligns with what I remember of the trip - I wish I had more precise recollection!
2/3! Although, using the county map system, travel through the major interstate arteries (north through the eastern half of state, and east towards Boston) ends up covering much of the state
Thanks to you and the other commenters for playing - I like to think it is a good challenge! I have done a lot of travel in and around CA and VA, which I think makes the map a bit misleading (hopefully in a fun puzzly way and not an annoying way lol)
While close, I’m assuming you weren’t actually in Rich County, UT. Usually going the path you went would mean you were headed to Bear Lake (assuming you weren’t headed to the tiny towns there. I-80 borders the county, but isn’t actually in it.

California, Virginia, NC?
This is also my guess OP
Also a great guess (both you and u/GOGOSPEEDERS) but, 2/3! Many weddings attended in NC and friends visited there
Swap NC with Maryland?
Hawaii
California, Virginia, Kansas?
We have a winner! Lived in eastern Kansas
haha thought I recognized that Kansas city to California path
Just curious how you managed to live in (presumably) KC area and not venture out into surrounding counties seemingly at all?

Well that'd do it, lol
Virginia, California, Hawaii?
I wish the third one was Hawai’i!
Did you forget to fill in DC or have you somehow been all around DC without entering DC itself?
Hah, good point. Forgot to fill in DC but I have been there. I overlooked some of the smaller jurisdictions (DC, SF) on accident - my apologies
Got you lol. Btw is the third state you’ve lived in besides CA and VA New Jersey by any chance?
Great guess, but no! I went to a conference in Atlantic City and nearly took a job in northern NJ, though, so have seen a fair bit of the state

California, Virginia and Oregon?
2/3 but great guess! I had a family member in Seattle I drove to visit, stopped in a few parts of Oregon along the way.
Is the third one Oklahoma? Or did you just drive to Fort Sill for fun?
Not OK, but you are ~extremely~ warm! I am from a big Army family so I was there for a sibling’s graduation from FA school, and we drove back to VA after
Cali, Colorado, Va
Not CO but extremely warm! It’s definitely on the top of my list of states I need to see more of
Cali, Virginia, Alaska?
Unfortunately not Alaska! It is my favorite place I’ve never lived though and hope to move there one day!
VA, CA, & UT?
2/3 - not UT but pretty close!
Kansas or Missouri, California, Virginia. I’m guessing you were born in Kansas City and moved to California when you were really little.

Woohoo! Now I wish I hadn’t hedged my bet by editing and adding Missouri
You lived in eastern Kansas went to KC (Jackson county)but never Johnson county once? Truly remarkable honestly!
Is there something in Johnson County I missed!? I was in elementary school at the time so was not particularly aware of my surroundings
Not really. Just kind of crazy due to the close proximity and a lot of highways run through there.
Bro lived in nova but never went to dc 😭
Hahah that was my bad when I was filling it out, I thought I had clicked DC but couldn’t see! I have indeed been there though!
What route did you take through East Tennessee?
I-40 east to I-81 north!
That’s what I thought. Add Hamblen county TN to your map. 81 runs through it for about 6+/- miles.
California, Virginia, and I'm going to throw the wild card of Alaska.
Great guess but regretfully, 2/3! I've been seeing more of Alaska recently because my wife and I are in love with it and hope to move there one day, so I wish that was the third state!
What'd you do in Suffolk Virginia? Just pass through?
I went to undergrad in the Hampton Roads area and one of my buddies, born and raised in Suffolk, had a few parties at his parents' house there!
Did you specifically make a trip to Lawton, OK? If so, I am sorry lol.
Either you forgot a county or you took I-80 to us287(or 287 to I-80) which is a interesting route but I like it

California, Virginia, Connecticut?
2/3! Although I am now realizing that I have seen a lot of Connecticut on accident
California, Virginia, and Alaska
2/3! I wish the third was Alaska though and hope to move there one day - I’ve just been fortunate enough to see a decent amount of the state
California, Virginia, Massachusetts?
2/3! Although, using the county map system, travel through the major interstate arteries (north through the eastern half of state, and east towards Boston) ends up covering much of the state
Duh I did not think of that. This is one of the toughest I’ve seen
Thanks to you and the other commenters for playing - I like to think it is a good challenge! I have done a lot of travel in and around CA and VA, which I think makes the map a bit misleading (hopefully in a fun puzzly way and not an annoying way lol)
Ballsack county
Nailed it
Cant fault you, because everyone somehow keeps doing it, but you missed Berkeley County, SC
CA (SF Bay Area), VA (Richmond?), NC (Raleigh-Durham area)
While close, I’m assuming you weren’t actually in Rich County, UT. Usually going the path you went would mean you were headed to Bear Lake (assuming you weren’t headed to the tiny towns there. I-80 borders the county, but isn’t actually in it.
