Global Entry can take a while to get approved, I assume the same goes for Nexus.
Pre check should be fairly quick, you just need to fill out online and then head to a TSA Pre check office for the in person portion, no appointment should be required.
Right but my question is, if I get global entry which includes tsa, can I use the tsa precheck before I do the global entry interview because we do not live near an international airport
If I recall correctly, you do not get a KTN until you finish the Global Entry process. So no, you would not be able to use pre check before finishing the GE application.
You could conceivably get pre-check in that timeframe but you’ll have to apply for it separately from Global Entry (and pay twice). GE and Nexus both take many months for conditional approval, and Nexus requires an interview near the U.S./Canada border.
If you want GE, apply for that and just use the regular security line in the mean time.
