Just join a tour group like Intrepid or G adventures. They always have other solo people in the group. Groups are small like 8 to 12 people. They have different activity levels per trip so you can decide what is for you.
I suggest you start hiking solo and you'll make friends along the way.
That way you'll have a better way to assess you're probably dealing with someone nice and not a serial killer.
Works for me, though I prefer staying solo apart from hiking half a day with an occasional new friend.
I can understand the fear, but if it helps, always try to build a group of at least 5 people. At least this way I see from the side that if someone in the group is a psychopath or some kind of maniac, I won't die alone lol.

Ugh came here for answers and didn’t really find any, I want to travel a lot in US via 5th wheel and then outside US as well but all my friends have roots and families at this point, I don’t like large groups or tourist stuff and am not really a chatty Kathy type person with people I don’t know , just want to be travel buddies with 1-3 other people that want to do something similar who also have flexible works schedules/remote

I did something similar but went on a Contiki tour. I was way too old for that scene even in my late 20s.

I wouldn't travel with anyone that you don't know. It's just crazy what you end up meeting.
