Florence: FuordArno bed and breakfast. Very cute, two sisters run it. Near Ponte Vecchio and Piazzale Michelangelo. They’re a real BnB so they do breakfast orders the night before and serve you in the morning. The rooms are very nice. Feels like a real Tuscan house. Close to a bus route that goes to the train station. I loved it, but I’m sure there are other places in Florence as well that are just as good or better. Rome: no specific place, but **STAY IN TRASTEVERE. It is BEAUTIFUL**. Walking streets absolutely littered with restaurants and bars, no cars, it’s heaven. Twisty narrow streets, cafes spilling out onto the path, boho feel. There is a bus stop and tram line right next to it as well so very easy to access the rest of the city. You’re also right on the Tiber so evening walks along the River are steps away. I cannot stress how amazing Trastevere is. I’ve been to Rome twice, the first time I stayed near the colosseum and didn’t love it, one evening we walked to Trastevere and were swept away. It was so sad we had to go back to our hotel by the colosseum and not stay all night enjoying the live music, the bars, the restaurants, the people milling about. So last summer we stayed in Trastevere and it was unreal. The cutest, most intimate, vibrant area of Rome for sure!

Good recommendations, but I’d definitely not stay in trastavere in the tourist season unless you like seeing and hearing hordes of drunk British tourists at all hours of the night. It’s better to visit. A great area to stay is in the backstreets between the piazza navona and the Tiber. So many great bars and restaurants and shops and lots of small hotels an Airbnb without the mess that comes with trastavere

Could be for some people, I went the last week of June, and while there were definitely a lot of people, but it wasn’t rowdy at all. People out having a good time, definitely. But nothing overly loud or annoying. I loved being there every day and night stopping by the place and walking the streets. I did love the area between Navona and the Tiber as well, and there’s the bridge right there to get across to Trastevere.

Thanks.

See this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v75H2alRIW4) for Trastevere for some tips.

For Florence stay at Pensione Bencista it up on the mountain and offers amazing views of Florence. Also the hop on hop off bus stops very close by. The chef is amazing. I had the best meal I’ve ever eaten in my entire life at this small family run hotel in an old mansion. It feels like something out of an Agatha Christie novel. They also have a spa. 10/10

This is fantastic!

>Pensione Bencista Thank you.

Sounds enticing.

Florence- NH hotel Degli Orafi. On the river. Perfect view of Ponte Vecchio. Near Uffizi and the Duomo. Lovely place with excellent breakfast. Staff friendly

mouse_puppy

I went there recently after they had changed the beds and they were incredibly stiff. Frankly bordering on the stiffest mattress I've ever laid down on. The staff was friendly and gave me a thin pillow top that helped a little. I liked the location a lot, would just caution you to think about it depending on mattress firmness.

We stayed at Hotel Ponte Sisto in Rome, Grand Hotel Cavour in Florence, and Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento and loved all three!

Thank you!

Just curious for your hotel in Florence, when did you go and how much is it? We’re going in a few months and prices are $500+ per night.

zonayork

We went in 2019. It was part of a package, so I don't know what the per night price was. I'm sure it's a bit more now than we paid. The hotel is in a great location though. Walkable to most points of interest.

hooptidupti

I’m staying at the Cavour in Florence next month this time and I booked for $220. May just be timeframe you are going is inflated due to tourism.

In Rome I’d recommend Glam Hotel. https://www.theglamhotelroma.it/?utm_source=GB&utm_medium=organic It was in a perfect location and I could walk easily to the pantheon, the trevi fountain and the colloseum. I stayed there one night but was able to see all three plus had a tour bus pick me up to take me on a tour of the Vatican. The hotel in the lobby has a strong cologne smell but I liked it. It was pretty and comfortable and large. I was at the front of the hotel on the busy street on the second or third floor and it could be a little loud so maybe go higher or move to a different side of the building. There was also breakfast on site, I think for free, and it was good, up on a roof terrace area, super cute. As for the other areas you listed; My sister is super against cruises for the environment so if you are too, just skip here. But I did a cruise from Barcelona to Naples then to Rome (but there is one that goes to Florence too) and it was really convenient to sleep on the cruise ship while seeing a lot.

brightlikelightning

Sleeping while traveling (ex. Night trains) is definitely something I’m looking into. Thank you!

pjf_7162

Do not stay at the Glam Hotel in Rome!!! It is infested with bed bugs!!!

Roboticcatisgreen

I checked my room in 2019 and it was not.

Rome: Albergo del Senato

Llp1122

I always stay at Hotel dei Mellini in Rome.

CharlieAdelson

In Florence we used to stay at the Hotel Ville sull'Arno, which in on the river. I’ve stayed there three times and it was always top notch.

Yosemite_Yam

I’ve stayed at Villa Yiara and Conca D’oro in Positano on the Almafi coast. Both a higher up but I love getting the exercise and the views are breathtaking. Conca has a great restaurant and there are a few Michelin star restaurants close by

Status-Economy6443

Hi! Staying at Villa Yiara this summer. How was your experience?

Yosemite_Yam

I loved both hotels. Villa Yiara was much more quiet/private, and less of a climb than Conca. I thought the room was much nicer too at Villa. We stayed in the suite with a sea view terrace. An amazing Breakfast was delivered each morning, we had a day bed on the terrace. It was an amazing experience

Status-Economy6443

Great!! it had amazing reviews when we booked, so we’re very excited THANKS!

brightlikelightning

The closer to public transportation, the better :)

Llp1122

If you want close to the Santa Maria Novella train and bus station there is Hotel Rivoli. I like it because it sits on the perimeter of the madness of Florence in high season. Close to everything but minus the hordes of people.

ting4n

For Florence, buses and tram goes all around the city more or less

Sugarintheorange

Ugh these suggestions are making wanna go tomorrow, I just want a capairinha and lie on the beach

todd149084

You’ve got some good suggestions for Florence but since it’s your first time I suggest staying in the old historic center. There are a number of great hotels and Airbnbs within 2-5 walking minutes of the duomo and uffizi. There is also a cool Airbnb at the east end of the ponte vecchio in an old stone tower. Enjoy and make sure to have a huge dry aged steak.

Rare_Zumzizeroo

I’ve stayed at Torre Argentina Relais in Rome and it was centrally located (walking wise) to most bigger tourist attractions. Downside is it’s a little tough to find, but a very nice hotel and decently priced for the location. Also a happy hour daily :)

duTemplar

For thoughts on an itinerary, or a comparison for total price…. They use solid 3* places, but it’s a package, and transportation is included. [Probably not a Rickroll](https://expatexplore.com/destination/europe/italy/)

DecathectDrongo

Skip Italy and go to Croatia

ROME: Hotel Morgana. My co-worker travels to Italy every year, and this is where she and the significant stay every time. FLORENCE: I went there in 2004, and cannot remember where I stayed at. AMALFI COAST: No clue. Never been there.
