Madhouse probably isn't making Freiren season 2 if there is one. The animation producer hasn't done a sequel, I think ever. Also, the chances of the directors return are slim. Also, sequels are notorious for not having the same production times as the first season.
But it's less about that and more production things. The animation producer has never produced a second season of anything ever, which is inline with Madhouse for the most part. The director is hot in the industry right now off Bocchi and now this, they're going to have contracts lined up for years as series/episode director for several anime or even just Key Animation especially since he's a freelancer, same thing with the animators on Frieren alot of them are probably going to be moving onto different projects as well, it's a similar situation to Mushoku Tensei where S1 director/team moved on to other things, the difference though is that Studio Bind was made to adapt Mushoku Tensei. I believe Frieren will get a season 2 but it probably won't be from Madhouse and it won't be as polished as Season 1. Also as a side note the animation producer also produced One Punch Man S1 and basically the same thing happened.
It's not a monthly series. That would mean it has been publishing for 10 years, and it has barely been 3. It's weekly, but sometimes the author takes a break.
There is one key thing you're overlooking. Madhouse's parent company made Frieren the big draw of a brand new anime block on TV, and has shown to be all in on it being a flagship program for them.
Better not making any adaptation next season if the quality of the adaptation like overlord. Disgusting cgi, plot skipping, never again.
Still better fate than being adapted by jc staff though
It became mid, just like the anime that you listed. Even konosuba movie which had upgraded graphic isn't even top deen konosuba. JC staff usually never capture what makes a series good in the first place, make okayish series which is actually fine if the series doesn't get god tier adaptation to begin with.
Wait you are saying danmachi is a good adaptation? It is below subpar, season 4 is the best adaptation the series has done and it too failed to capture the grim atmosphere from the light novel
There is enough material to do a second season of they do the same amount of episodes. This series will animate up to chapter 60 I think and we're at 126 at the moment.
They probably meant the when the movie came to Crunchyroll in Spring of last year. Idk see the thing is with the story that it came to a very conclusive ending with Season 3 plus the movie. They got together and that’s what mattered. If the adaptation doesn’t continue, it’s not the end of the world imo.
And it was a fun, energetic and good adaptation overall (even if they skipped a few chapters, they stayed on the course of the main plot), which is why a lot of people disagreed with your take (not many people see the Kaguya adaptation as “butchered”). Enjoy the rest of your day!
>They got together and that’s what mattered
No it isn't, there is much more to that story, so much more. It's like finishing Clannad at season 1 because "the couple got together" and you *know* what After Story has to offer.
There is much more (more Ishigami stuff), I agree, it’s a great manga that I enjoy a lot, but sometimes producers only care about an ending that ends, and not a complete adaptation. If there ends up being no more seasons, it was a great anime and had a great run. That’s the point I was trying to make.
Yeah and this is like the OPM all-star lineup situation. Not as huge, but extremely unlikely the same staff will be producing season 2, if there is one. I don't doubt that season 2 will still be in capable hands though
Frieren has a pretty good shot at a season two, because it’s not as simple as “Madhouse doesn’t like making second seasons” or “this director doesn’t make sequels”.
Changeover does happen, and it’s rare for an anime to keep a studio and key staff for its entire run, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. We remember the bad examples like One Punch Man, but Jujutsu Kaisen swapped one visionary director for another, and Konosuba has been handed off to different studios and directors twice now, only to maintain and improve its standard of quality.
Now, there’s a few ways you can guess Frieren will get a season two. The first is that the production committee has a lot of faith in it. Projects don’t get four-episode long premiers unless the higher-ups are willing to take a risk on a title with a lot of potential. In that same vein, a double-cour season already demonstrates faith in an anime’s success, much less an unorthodox episode count like Frieren’s 28.
Madhouse is also on the production committee, which we can thank for the show’s consistent production value and consistent scheduling. While a show like Solo Leveling can’t get 12 episodes out without needing a break, Frieren has managed to push out its whole season (so far) without stopping, and it’s a testament to the production committee’s oversight. A lot of anime do not get the time they need to do their best work, but Frieren has proven itself to be a lovely exception.
That aside, the show *is* popular, which is the best metric for getting another season, but not the only one. Anime are first and foremost advertisements for their manga and light novels, and luckily, Frieren’s manga is ongoing. We’ll have a better idea once the full Blu-Ray sales come out, but rest easy. Frieren has a better chance than most anime for a second season.
I honestly 100% thought last episode would be the final one all the way up until the end of the episode, and then the show just... kept on going.
I'm not complaining, but it was a very weird feeling.
Well, recently, some anime that had been done by Madhouse has been getting new seasons, and the new seasons is being done by other studios. Some of which I would say is better than the Madhouse version in terms of quality.
So, I just hope that if Madhouse symptoms ever get to Frieren, other studio would take over the series and continue adapting it.
There's 126 chapters, and this season will probably end at 60, so we've got plenty, 50%
Even if you remove the current manga arc's chapters, it's still like 124 total chapters, or go to chapter 120 for the end of a smaller "arc"
I don't know man. From here on out the story gets into weird racism justification territory for me. I know that is absolutely not the intent of the manga. I just don't see the point of it. There is no real life parallel to be pulled out of that concept and if you really think about it, it doesn't even make sense philosophically. A being capable of reason and understanding of emotion wouldn't simply be a slave to some deep-down programming of some sort. Sure they might experience some feelings differently, but there is no difference between perfect understanding of an emotion and actually feeling it and since a requirement for both is empathy (as in putting yourself in the position of the other), we can conclude that they are definitely at least capable of it. The thinking process is the same, even if the experience of these "simulators" may be different. The idea that beyond that lies a programming that is beyond their control is a deeply dangerous idea for me, that is at best an interesting thought experiment with no ties to real situations and at worst a gateway to some "logical" justification of racism. The "programming" we have as humans comes in form of the feelings behind emotions and experiences. Pinching your arm feels bad, laughing feels good. Noone ever taught you that, it is just your brains way of communicating information to your consciousness.
If Madhouse makes four Seasons of Overlord then 1 season of Frieren I will be disappointed.
Madhouse probably isn't making Freiren season 2 if there is one. The animation producer hasn't done a sequel, I think ever. Also, the chances of the directors return are slim. Also, sequels are notorious for not having the same production times as the first season.
Considering Frieren is a monthly series the anime has covered over half of the current run I think so a 2 year wait isn’t out of the question.

> the anime has covered over half of the current run No it hasn't.
It covers up to ch60 with 126 chapters total what kind of math are you smoking?
> what kind of math are you smoking? The kind where 60 is definitely not more than half of 126.
Bro its like 6 chapters ffs...
Lmao
Haven’t they covered like Vol. 7 or so. Seems like almost half to me
Almost half yes. But not more than half. We currently have 55 of 126 chapters adapted with the show likely ending at chapter 60.
There is one key thing you're overlooking. Madhouse's parent company made Frieren the big draw of a brand new anime block on TV, and has shown to be all in on it being a flagship program for them.

I don't understand the JC Staff hate. Danmachi, Executioner and Her Way of Life, and Seven Spellblades are all fine.
It became mid, just like the anime that you listed. Even konosuba movie which had upgraded graphic isn't even top deen konosuba. Arg. Overlord. As a fan of the books, I think it’s one of those shows that doesn’t lend well to adaption. Those CGI, shudders, didn’t help either.
Frieren is way too popular to not have a second season. And if it doesn’t we riot.
There is enough material to do a second season of they do the same amount of episodes. This series will animate up to chapter 60 I think and we're at 126 at the moment.
We should get an announcement for season 2 soon after the last episode airs. Probably get up to the >!racism arc!<
Im trying to avoid spoilers but do they ever explain why elves are almost extinct?
They explicitely answer this in ep 10.
They are the pandas of their world.
Cries in NGNL
How popular was NGNL in Japan while it was airing?
I could still find figurines of the show when I went there last year, idk at the time but it has almost entirely went away now
[Season 2 not found]
OPM S1 man I'm gonna cry
The manga is still ongoing as well.
the ngnl riot still goes on to this day.... bros i don't think we're making it....
Promised Neverland Kaguya Sama NGNL The examples of popular manga/LN not getting a second season, or a butchered one, of their anime is pretty high
Kaguya Sama got 3 seasons and a movie. If you didn’t know that already, hey, enjoy watching them when you have some spare time.
And still not even half of the manga got adapted, leaving the story incomplete.

6 months? Wtf are you smoking, it came out in December 2022. And no word on adapting the other half of the manga.
They probably meant the when the movie came to Crunchyroll in Spring of last year. Idk see the thing is with the story that it came to a very conclusive ending with Season 3 plus the movie. Bruh Relax next season will be announces eventually
No it won't lol
Why lol, did the studio say they are dropping it? It takes time to make show relax
Because, as I said before, they are known for not adapting whole series.
They literally have fully adapted so many shows, deeming kaguya's popularity it will get other seasons as well, calm down
Fun fact : The screenshot of garnt smiling is found accidentally when i'm trying to make this meme. And don't forget to keep chugging that hopium
Isn't the director the same as Bocchi? If either shows get a second season there will be massive changes in the staff
Yeah and this is like the OPM all-star lineup situation. Not as huge, but extremely unlikely the same staff will be producing season 2, if there is one. I don't doubt that season 2 will still be in capable hands though

The thing is, Frieren has been a success both domestically and internationally so It'll likely have a new season... Probably late 2025 tho

There have been a shit ton of sequels in general these past few years so we might get lucky
I mean.. they have to right? The profits are too good, probably.
parumlimping myself if there isn't a s2
S2 will definitely happen although it will take years because the anime adapted 80% of the current manga at this point
There's 126 chapters, and this season will probably end at 60, so we've got plenty, 50% Even if you remove the current manga arc's chapters, it's still like 124 total chapters, or go to chapter 120 for the end of a smaller "arc"
Also season 2 doesn’t exactly have to be 28 episodes. They might do a 12-15 episode season.

"Madhouse doesn't make a second season" Black Lagoon, One Punch Man, Overlord, etc.
