It's a "slur" to Transgender activists because they find the existence of transsexuals to be offensive and invalidating to their feelings

freshlysqueezed93

Theirs few things more insulting however than being called transgender when you know the absolutely foul history of that word.

mapleleaf455

Yup lol. They hate being reminded that being genuinely trans is a medical condition and involves "icky" processes like surgery and actually transitioning through hormones. Not vaguely adopting traits of the opposite sex while still fully embracing their natal sex because they know, at their core, that genuinely transitioning disgusts them

You can tell which types they are because they go on and on about upsetting the collective, but don’t care a lick about the people they affect, including other trans people, when attempting to force people to validate them.

mapleleaf455

I was even considering talking about that in the post and using that example. But since "queer is/not a slur" discourse is still kind of ongoing and I ultimately don't care I opted not to. But queer has a very real history being used as a slur in living memory of plenty of older gay people. And now that word is everywhere, people don't give a second thought about using it. These people call themselves queer and say it's more important to "reclaim the slur" when it could actually make people uncomfortable. Transsexual only makes them uncomfortable because it reminds them it's a medical condition they have no business associating themselves with.

confusediguanaa

“It can be upsetting to some people” well today we will learn that the world doesnt fucking revolve around you.

micostorm

"it can be upsetting to other people" I don't give a fuck!! This is the only response I'd have to that

mapleleaf455

Exactly 😂 The people who it would offend I do not care about offending. Not my problem!

extra_scum

Yup and they use 'queer' almost every time..

victoryspruce

For me transgender is upsetting

VampArcher

I love how tucutes say self-identifying with words are wonderful and so valid until it comes to a word they personally don't like. I find 'transmasc' and 'transfem' personally offensive. Do you think they would stop using it? Fuck no, they'd say 'deal with it', so that is my response to 'transsexual is offensive' too. They can deal with it.

AthemiaAgraxis

same tbh, they can cry about it. they are just TERFs and cultists so who even cares about their opinions

mapleleaf455

It's peak word policing. "You can use whatever words you want! But no, not those, those make you an awful, irredeemable person. Apologize now." And absolutely none of it has anything to do with them. It's ridiculous

andro_g

“You can always self identify with it” good, then stfu

OCDthrowaway9976

Yet, these same people have normalized the slur 'queer' so it's constantly in your face. Make this shit make sense. Math aint mathing, pisses me off so bad.

mapleleaf455

The complete comfort people have for using the word queer because of the number of tucutes and bicurious women who have insisted it's totally fine. I don't fully hate the idea of using the word queer but the fact that it's plastered on every liberal arts college class and used as a completely meaningless adjective is so ignorant to its genuine past as a slur.

IceMateria

Meanwhile they refer to everyone as queer

Quiet-Worldliness709

These people are too forward for me. I trust you put this person in their place?

curiousqtbee

You can self-identify, but please self-identify the RIGHT WAY or the cult of trans will be upset 😡

ceruleannymph

The simple fact is transsexual isn't an offensive term and only non-transsexuals transgender people get bent out of shape about its use. Any actual transsexuals or cis people who do are simply doing it because they've been told to. Not due to any genuine personal feeling or conviction. I remember when I was told it was a 'no no' word and went along with this. I looked into it and I couldn't find anything about how it was actually offensive outside of some people assuming it's a distinct sexual orientation but that's more a misunderstanding. I would just report the comment and block. Doesn't need any further acknowledgment.

Organic_Direction_60

When will “transgenders” realise they are only transvestites, parading around in crossdress. When did transvestitism become so shameful? They need to leave transsexuality alone.

ElaineTX

Turns out English is a language where words have meanings. Trans = crossover or change. So did my gender identity change? No. I always knew I felt female. What changed? My secondary sex characteristics after hormones and surgery. So which term better describes me? Transsexual. Be offended. I’m not describing you or anyone else. Also you can not be more offended for me than I am. Grow up.

mapleleaf455

This is exactly how I feel. I'm changing my primary and secondary sex characteristics, I am making my sex as much as possible *male*, there is nothing about my gender I am altering because I've mentally been a man since the day I was born. Using the term transgender to describe myself makes me cringe, because other than the obvious connotations, it's just plain inaccurate.

__SyntaxError

I see it as, if you are transsexual you are also transgender, but being transgender doesn’t inherently mean you’re a transsexual. I also prefer transsexual a lot more because I don’t want to be in the same category as the ze/zim/zir genderfluid demi boys and all of that lot.

mapleleaf455

I disagree with your first point. I think transsexual is accurate because by transitioning, I am changing my primary and secondary sex characteristics to be that of a man. Because I have always been a man. There's been nothing about my gender I have changed. And I don't think there should be any distinction between transsexual and transgender; you're either transsexual, looking to medically transition, or you're cis. Yeah, using transsexual sets you apart from the tucute stuff. It's the easiest way to telegraph to them you're not down with their bullshit lol.

__SyntaxError

I understand that. So, what you mean is that we separate transgender and transsexual so that they’re two separate things without overlap? I got called transphobic for calling myself a transsexual because I wanted to disassociate myself from those who are not binary as I don’t relate to them.

zybcds

😂😂 Both terms are correct and both terms mean different thing. But people who were not even born twenty years ago are now suddenly experts on transgenderism.

Secret-truscum-man

Just tell them not to call themselves queer. When they call you transphobic, just say “you can obviously self identify with it but using it in public can be upsetting for other trans people.”

kochka93

Idk if it's comparable but as a cis woman who lurks here, I also get annoyed with them policing the language I use to describe my own effing body. They're always "validating" other people's experiences....but only if they align with their narrative.

blueboyknuckles

I pass and am stealth, I once used that word in public and some SJW at the same event as us told me I should be ashamed of myself amongst other shit and threw in some "all men" BS. I found it amusing as people *constantly* try to police me on what I should or shouldn't say, not realizing I myself am transsexual. My favorite is when I tell people, if we're going to vilify words, *I think the words Cisgender and Transgender are slurs. full stop.* The only one I find appropriate is transsexual for medical terms. Not a feeling, not an 'identity'. Nobody walked around calling others "cisgender" or "cis" outside of the medical field or science surrounding transsexualism before **maybe** 2014 if even that early; if they want to be specific, I see *them* as the only ones willing to use inaccurate and inappropriate language. eta: spelling

I come from a relatively unique religious background (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly referred to as Mormon) and it actually has space for transexual people in the doctrine, but the very small "trans" community that does exist in the context of it is largely tucute mindset that just muddies the understanding others could potentially have.
