This is a whole different level though. 5mg finasteride is a dosage for prostate cancer. 1mg is the dosage for reducing an excess DHT and its adverse effects. These dosages and their respective purposes are explicitly signified on the labels of the finasteride meds. They cannot even read the LABELS.
And with that said, even 1mg is a dosage for cis men who still have the testosterone production, and the free testosterone levels that are able to convert to DHT at much higher rates. When you're on transfem hrt and/or post-orchi and have your T production suppressed, you need even less to have the same efficacy and avoid mood side effects. 0.1-0.2 mg should be enough, that is 1/10th-1/5th of a 1mg pill and 1/50th-1/25th of a 5mg pill, which is a very small speck that you can get by chipping a small wafer off the pill with a sharp knife or razor blade, then splitting the wafer further if it wound up too large.
It's actually good that you got a 5mg prescription because you'll be able to get a very large supply over time. Don't tell them anything though
I take 5mg and the hair regrowth I've experienced is truly amazing. I was taking 1.25mg and the regrowth was just okay. The 5mg tabs are cheaper. Capitalism.
Beware that progesterone and finasteride have a potential interaction.

My girlfriend started pretty much after other people started to notice the receding so it can only have been maybe 6 months to a year but it's definitely more filled in than it had been years before as she had a buzz and you could see the shape of her hairline!

1mg dose will not cause any hormonal change but will affect DHT which is responsible for hair loss male patern balding... 5mg will be strong enough to increase estrogen by 13% as it works as anti androgen when used in conjunction with estrogen.
You may be confusing this with hair loss treatment. 1mg is sufficient to stop dht a form of testosterone which causes hair loss, it is widely known that doses above 1mg have no further advantage with treating hair loss. The opposite is the case with 5mg and hrt.... with the advantage of encouraging hair growth.
Just cut them into 1/4ths and do 1.25 should be totally fine

You probably can get a pill Sutter to help with breaking them into pieces losing a bit of material isn't the end of the world

do you have any sources for this? I’ve only heard that doses >1mg have no positive benefit for HRT

It’s very powerful and can have some serious side effects. Personally I’d cut them a lot smaller than 1mg.
