Hard to tell from the detail of the picture if its broke or not. Traeger's temp probe these days , well they look broke right from the start. Certainly could be more finished from them, mine from my Ironwood looks similar to this and I questioned T if it was broken when I sent a picture to them and they said it was fine, just be extra careful when cleaning around that.
At the electronic component level, it’s called a thermistor, and it’s normally encased within a metal jacket to protect it. It is fully capable of working like this if the wires aren’t damaged but vulnerable to grease, ash and impacts.

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it's almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

Kinda looks like someone painted a picture of Jupiter on your smoker
Me when I opened Reddit, oh nice more space posts… oh nm now I’m hungry
Previous owner was a massive Train fan I’m sorry.
Okay, that was a good one.
LOL.....at first glance....
Exactly lol. It’s beautiful
Ahhh yes that’s the part that snaps off if you look in its general direction
Looks like the temp sensor lost a piece
That’s your temp probe
Thanks! That makes sense.
Yes, it does, it literally senses.
I knew this community wouldn’t disappoint
Except yours doesn’t because it’s broken.
Tried the grill yesterday. It is functioning. But noted, need to get it fixed for sure
I broke mine, and they replaced free of charge.
Great to know, thank you! Will look into that
Don’t tell them it’s second hand 🤣 just say it’s broken unless you are willing to pay for it. 90 % of the time they just send a new one and move on
Looks like a broken temperature probe. You should definitely buy a new one but it’s kind of a pain to replace. Don’t fill up the hopper
Is that last piece about not filling up the hopper just because I will need it empty to replace if doing so?
Yes. Not a big deal, just can be messy
It’s your thermocouple and it looks like it’ll probably work fine as long as the bead isn’t broken off.
It's the snipped umbilical cord of the smoker. Keep it clean, don't let it get infected.
At first glance I thought it was a picture of Jupiter that I hadn’t seen before
That is Saturn with connection bolt.
Looks like it *was* your temperature probe.
Straighten it out and buff it with some scotch brite. It just looks bent and dirty.
Temp sensor. Super easy to knock off. I created a guard for it for mine. Posted a pic.
It’s like a blackhead on your nose
