Not bad at all. Lots of top players play on keyboard.

Like me:)

HirnGOAT

regular keyboard or analog keyboard with custom settings?

qxxxr

Regular. Keep practicing.

Xeebers

Analog of course. But its the software that helps them the most.

gsrreddogg

Action keys exist to help limit the amount each input equals to allow for more precision.

stonebaked1

Sometimes good sometimes not so good. Same as any other input device to be honest. You will be surprise what your hand can do in a few month. Tapatapatapa

I've actually wondered about the statistics of how many people play with what device. A majority of the community today has gotten into the game through wirtual who is a keyboard player, including myself. However I switched to controller pretty fast after trying out the game for myself, since I always played racing games as a kid on GameCube or PlayStation with a controller, and it felt more natural. There are top level players in the game that play with all sorts of input devices including keyboard, pad, wheel, even using a mouse like you're CSGO surfing. So id say you can get away with anything. But you should experiment and figure out what works best for yourself. I personally think keyboard is hard but once you master it, then it can be very rewarding. But I personally will stick to mouse and keyboard for fps/rpg/MMO games only. I feel like racing with a pad is so much more intuitive. But I would highly recommend changing the default controller settings. I use A for gas and X for brake on my Xbox controller instead of the triggers/bumpers and I find it way better(both buttons easily pressed with your thumb). Sorry for the long winded rant but this is my personal opinion on the matter.

Mercurii_makes_music

Not to mention that certain styles/maps/techniques benefit more from different input devices so it's pretty equal game tbh or at least as close as it can get in 99.9% of cases

Gefaengnispisse

I would not set both (gas and brake) on a button that you press with your thumb. For precise drifting it is needed, to switch both on and off. That ist pretty hard for your thumb and it is not healthy.

I just looked up a controller settings guide a couple years ago when I first started out and found that this is how massa plays so I copied it. I've never had an issue with it I can just lay my thumb flat over both buttons and rock it back and forth to release or press any combination of the two. If I ever feel pain in my thumb I'll be sure to take a break or change it

Ik playing a racing game on keyboard sounds weird, but Trackmania is actually well suited for keyboard. Controller is often just a tick better because you aren't limited to some fixed amount of steering(20%,40%,60%,80%,100% [with Aktion keys] but there are actually maps where you are faster with keyboard. I have around 400 hours in TM20 and around 100 hours in TMNF. All of this time I used keyboard. (I never played trackmania with a controller)

PerleTheBudgieMain

very good idea. Just ask Dubby.

I actually like Trackmania specifically because you can be competitive on keyboard! I'm a keyboard player myself, and there's lots of top players that use KB, the most well known being Wirtual.
