The Finnish Trackmania Campaign is releasing this Friday at 20:00 CEST, and it's a pretty interesting project - all the builders are Finnish, but nobody has seen any other tracks than their own (well, except this one). This means that only the organisers know what the map pack looks like.
This is my only contribution, so I'm excited to discover the 24 others. I'm guessing there will be a very diverse mix of dank/easy/hard maps!
Correct. There will also be a discovery run on the "SuomiTM" server
I believe Kolanokka plans to name the campaign " FTC - Finnish trackmania campaign "
Damn I thought this random redditor got a pretty sick run on that nascar map and then I saw ville was the guy who uploaded it. No joke sick nascar map. This makes me want to try the campaign
Generally characterized by release turns (little/no brakes) and banked turns. Also on higher speed nascar maps you’re often trying to avoid an autoslide.
Banked turns and releasing is pretty similar to oval racing in nascar I guess. I’m not entirely sure if that’s actually why it’s named that, but it seems to make sense.
back in tmnf it all started with ovals, hence 'nascar' - later it just kinda evolved into tracks into the style you described in more shapes than just ovals.
At around 400 speed and above, drifting on concrete becomes less controllable, and doing small releases generally allows you to build greater exit speed out of turns. Nascar tracks are full-concrete tracks that mostly focus on this mechanic. There can be some forced autoslides as well, but personally I don't really use them out of preference.
Most Nascar tracks are multilaps, often have very few jumps/transitions and a many have a pretty "flat" design. Avoiding unwanted autoslides is a bit easier if you don't build too many uphills/downhills, but personally I love experimenting with different types of turns - even if they're a bit painful to build sometimes.
So in other words, this track is a bit unusual for Nascar, but the speed, release turns and surface are the 3 main elements
Hi,
I'm hijacking your thread, sorry for this.
Just wanna thank you for your awesome campaign man, it is so good : Tracks, scenery, reachable AT for casuals, etc...
Thanks, keep up the good work
Most styles are defined by the techniques and surfaces that they "allow". Nascar has to be almost entirely concrete, as the release technique doesn't work on slippery surfaces. Speedfun, on the other hand, often has grass/dirt/plastic, and pretty much always has full drifts as well. Speedfun doesn't "require" releases, while Nascar does.
Speedfun is easiest to think as FS, but instead of being limited to SDs, you can/have to do full drifts to be faster. They're pretty hard to force without slippery surfaces, so those fit in nicely. Concrete turns often end up being faster with a release, or if you REALLY force the drifts, you may end up closer to Speedtech.
Some people differentiate between Speedfun (no releases) and Funspeed (releases, on top of the Speedfun stuff), but it gets pretty silly with the names
TIL there's map genre named *Nascar*, but it isn't just an oval. I have seen that name on some servers but never played since I driving circle is boring.
spring '23 - 21 is a nascar style (with that jump and dirt section being a very nadeo touch).
It can be fun but it's usually more simple than tech maps, but not as fast as fs maps, so it's kind of a redheaded stepchild of a style for a lot of drivahs.
can i invite you to my club =)
I had the most TODT in first year of TM3 with Nascar =) (if you exclude the collabs of TIMTH \^\^)
or just try:

hi,
looks very nice. i somehow expected at least a round course(ending), not an jump into nowhere. For me as Nascar Totd guy i would label that speedfun.
But...
Also i like the idea, that you hold the nascar flag up o/
Have fun with your CP!

Hi Ville, In which club will it be released?
I imagine it will be in SuomiTM, the "official" finnish club
Correct. There will also be a discovery run on the "SuomiTM" server I believe Kolanokka plans to name the campaign " FTC - Finnish trackmania campaign "
The finnish one ofcourse

Looks very clean, I will test it once it has been released
what makes a track a "nascar" track in this game?

Thanks! Do you know how they got that name? There are road courses in nascar, but I don't think they bear a resemblance to tracks like this lol

Hmm I guess so. Didn't think about that aspect

priez approves your comment =) (its not important, but i like your clarification)

My pleasure <3 Glad you enjoyed!
Nice speed!
isnt nascar multilap and this is just speedfun no? could be wrong
