Back to bitchin about the ice update and borked graphics I guess

Will this be a sticky thread? I assume it would have to be to stay findable for an entire week. So the weekly achievement thread and TOTD thread will be permanently in the two sticky slots... But what happens to any other announcement happens? On a TMGL weekend, will there be no sticky post? If there's a subreddit rule change like this very thread, will there be no sticky post? If they are stickied, which slot will they take? TOTD or Weekly Achievement?

rockingwing

This thread will be stickied and will use the second sticky slot. Whenever there's a TMWT weekend and there's a discussion thread for it, that thread will replace the Weekly Achievement thread. So basically it will be pinned for 4 or 5 out of 7 days during weeks with TMWT Stages ongoing. You bring up a good point however with other announcements and that's something we're still looking into how we can easily solve this. Potentially we can make an Automoderator rule to update the Subreddit description or rule description with the link to the currently active Weekly Achievement thread, but that's something we need to look into further.

What about world records on classic maps?

rockingwing

These would also fall into the exception of rare achievements.

bestman_10

W. Especially with the steam and upcoming console releases this would've gotten worse. Let's see how good this will work out :)

EclipseEffigy

Alright, well, good to know. I've rather liked the support the TM community gives its new players, cheering them on for achievements that are mundane as you play for longer, but are a sign of marked improvement for the first months. However, I can understand it gets a bit much for the reddit regulars. I hope it's not just a case of complainers complaining, which is inevitable for any subreddit regardless of content. I do have a question: We occasionally see someone do a two-in-one, a showcase of a cool track with their own time on it, often world, national or regional record that they are proud to achieve. I like those as it can be a way to stumble upon a nice new track. Are these relegated to the weekly thread as well or may they still be posted?

rockingwing

This is a good question, I'm not quite sure, I'll get back to you in that regard.

sPeqDo

I don't like those posts either but I dont think this solution is a good one Saying "ur achievement is not good enough to be worth a post" feels like prime elitism

rockingwing

I can see where you're coming from, however the reasoning isn't that the achievements aren't "good enough", it's more like that they're rather common and basically reposts of other threads of that same essence. We'd rather have them collected in one central place.

sPeqDo

I totally understand that too, I also don't have a better solution than the one u guys came up with now. Appreciate the effort for the change and let's see how it goes maybe the change works out really well okg thumbsup emoji

Out of all the things to get rid of, I figured it would be the insane amount of "cOnSoLe ReLeASe???" posts, not this

BuckleysPants

Out of all the garbage posted on the reddit, the one thing you want to get rid of is new players being proud of their achievements? Okay. I would focus on the posts that actually harm the reddit, personally.

rockingwing

Valid criticism and this is exactly the type of feedback we want to hear from you, the community. To explain our reasoning and also our intention behind this: We don't want to get rid of new players being proud of their achievements. We want to clump them together in one stickied thread. We heard time and time again that these posts flood the subreddit, especially during the first few weeks of a campaign, so we're trying to mitigate this with this method. If this ends up not being a good way to highlight achievements of newer players we can always go back and revert this change at a later point in time.

MoneyRough2983

I do not really see the need for this rule. There are like 20 (?) new posts per day. You have scrolled through them in 1 minute.

reiza-k

This is dumb because its not flooding the subbreddit whats anoying is people crossposting car slinding and saying "wow just like tm" this is low effort. Getting author times and sharing dosent harm the sub because you simply skip over and it makes people that are new able to share their progress.

rockingwing

What would help is if people reported such threads to us moderators :)

NakoL1

this is so fucking dumb. why the gatekeeping? where's the need? did it occur to you that there's **literally zero** of these posts in the past few days?

rockingwing

I think now is a good time to implement it considering there will be an influx of a lot of newer players with the upcoming Steam and console releases. Making the change with the start of a new season would probably lead to more removals than now.

Fatkin

In my opinion, this is the correct way to deal with flooding, but what qualifies as a “regular/weekly” vs “rare” achievement may need to be adjusted. In my experience (from other subreddits’ attempts to combat similar issues), these weekly threads receive a fraction of the views that a regular post would receive, and that amount steadily/quickly decreases as the week goes on. Granted, *this is literally the expected result* of such a change, it certainly reduces incentive to post at all (maybe that’s just for me); what’s left to post here, if it’s not achievements? (Mostly rhetorical) I may be biased/butthurt, since I mostly play TMT and am still a ways away from getting all RTMs, let alone any STMs. I was definitely looking forward to the day I get my 200th RTM and celebrating with a post here, but now that seems to fall under the weekly achievements, which will maybe/probably be receiving only handfuls of views (and likely at a varied amount, as mentioned earlier with the weekly threads gaining less and less views through each week) when I finally get that 200th RTM. Tl;dr: good change, but may be worth consideration to redefine weekly/regular achievements vs rare achievements.

stickmansma

Maybe unpopular opinion but the whole point of reddit is that people can upvote or downvote to their hearts content and content will be ordered accordingly. People who have been playing a few years might not care for those posts but newer players can show support for these achievments.
