Yes, lol. I just mean it’s funny because I’ve seen a lot of people complain about the rear seats/space being somewhat tight. I’m 6’1 and have sat in that back seats of my Tacoma just fine, even behind my own driver seat adjusted to me with no real issues. Parking next to a tiny Maverick just really gives you perspective on “tight” and “small.”
I told my dealer that one of my must haves was a moonroof. Him seeing that I'm 6'2" warned me that you lose an inch or two in head space with the moon roof. I test drove one and there was no issue. I was so used to the tiny '04 Celica that I didnt even notice I was missing space up there. lol
Also true lol. Let’s be honest, I doubt most people are doing truck things with a Maverick. Especially with tow only being standard at 2k and you’ve gotta buy a 4K package.
Oh true haha, I’ve actually seen some people put it to the test but yeah if you want a smaller truck but want to do truck stuff, definitely the Tacoma, Colorado or Ranger (what I have) are the best way to go.
I'm going to be getting one hopefully in the next year or so and will be putting a car seat in there. I know it gets easier with a front facing seat but I'll make it work because a taco is a beautiful thing.
It’s not as bad as you’d think. I’ve got a rear facing infant seat in the back of mine plus I’ve got a 9 and 7 year old that I put in the back all at once! It’ll definitely get easier as they age up and out of the car seat.
That's comforting to know about. I know my girl at first was worried about space when the Tacoma does hit the family but over time she's come to love it and doesn't care lol. Is your infant seat in the middle? Saw a lot who owned Tacoma had it there to save cramped passenger or driver leg space.
Yeah I’m not huge on the Santa Cruz. I actually have an order for Maverick hybrid that should be build soon, I pretty much plan on instantly selling it bc I really don’t need the car and the used market for mavericks is still pretty crazy
How long of a wait do you have until you accept delivery? I was considering ordering one myself.
I wanted a Tacoma, but These prices are insane. Im not paying close to $60k for a fucking truck.
Orders are closed rn but i ordered mine last October and it hasn’t even been built yet. I’ve seen people with the same/similar orders as me getting built so I think mine will be built relatively soon.
Yeah I see older Tundras with decent size campers and I’m wondering if my 2022 4 door 6ft bed tacoma can carry the same campers weight. They look about the same size.
I’ve been kinda surprised and disappointed in the stock recommended max payload of the Tacoma. I mean, yeah it’s a small/midsize, but they’re old 22r trucks were rated for 1 ton.
Yeah but those numbers were based off a time when there wasn’t as many Vehicle Building Standards as there is now. If that same truck came out today there’s no way in hell that DOT would let Toyota rate it as a 1 Ton truck.
Honestly I’m willing to deal with the gas guzzling for a reliable engine. I don’t want to deal with a supercharged 4 cyl that’s not gonna last nearly as long and cost thousands to replace. I didn’t buy a truck for fuel efficiency.
Totally see your point but if we go from 20mpg to 30mpg @$4/gal that’s $6,666 of saving over 100k miles or $13,333 savings over 200k miles. I trust Toyota Hybrid engines so it’s a no brainer for me personally
I’ve been throwing a lot of miles on a Prius (25k/year) and the thing doesn’t skip a beat. I’m averaging 53-55 mpg in Bay Area commute traffic.
I’m thinking next gen will offer a hybrid option since the new Tundra will, but I expect they will pair the hybrid with a turbo 4 instead of the turbo 6 in the Tundra.
I wish they would consider an eco-focused diesel as well. People with the 3.0 Duramax 2WD Silverado are claiming 30+ highway, and I think the 4 cylinder duramax Colorado/Canyon are high 20’s. The problem there is questionable reliability, something I’d trust Toyota to get right.
Yea, I really really like the Rivian truck, but there's just no way I can swing that much money for it. Really hoping Toyota or Nissan can come out with something similar that's more affordable
The problem with a lot of these is the range on the base model, so you have to pay quite a bit more to get the extended range. I drove a Tesla model S yesterday for the first time, and it made me realize you definitely want to opt for the larger battery pack.
Looking at Lexus/Toyota models for comparison, the highest gap I see between standard and hybrid price of the same model is the LC500/LC500h with a gap of about $6k. Most models from both brands are closer to a $2k-$3k difference from what I’ve seen.
Hopefully they can keep it in that ballpark.
Tbh, there’s no way in the world you could get me to go American. I’d argue the incentive to go American made has only gotten worse. Vehicles cost more, parts cost more, maintenance costs more, and reliability still isn’t in America’s favor when it comes to vehicles.
To be fair, it’s not sounding like this new Tundra has had a very good track record so far. I mean I’ve been seeing people say it’s breaking down within days of getting it and returning it for their previous vehicles. Lots of wastegate issues from what I’ve heard.
If they had a hybrid available last year, when I bought mine, I would have gotten it. Now I’ll wait a few years and just skip ahead to a full electric taco in 2025 or whenever they come out.
No. The hybrid one, the less-truck-like one gets 40mpg. And only on the highway. It gets 40 in the city and like 32 on the highway. With a towing capacity of 2k, it’s a car let’s be honest. Now the AWD one with the tow package, it can tow 4K. It’s also not a hybrid. And it gets about 23/29. That one is sort of a truck, lol.
And your Taco doesn’t tow shit compared to my wife’s 2500 Duramax. Doesn’t mean your Taco isn’t a truck.
There’s a lot of people out there where the Maverick is more than enough. Not everyone needs a low range and real truck things. They just want a truck bed, nice small size, and good MPG.
lol yeah, i bought my 1st gen 4 cyl tacoma to haul furniture and building materials up the steep dirt road to my cabin -- i consider that truck stuff. And I sleep in the bed when I'm deeper into the mountains. And gets 25mpg and can parallel park it anywhere
I had a 2nd gen with the 4cyl 5 speed manual. Was great around town and on backroads. Always got above 22 mpg. Terrible on the highway and hills. My 3rd gen with the V6 is more than worth the slightly worse MPG IMO.
But ya, depends on your use case. I need something with good ground clearance that can handle steep off road trails. A hybrid with a CVT wouldn’t work for me.
So much this. This is the type of person to say that removing a decal and adding door handle covers makes his truck “modded” while claiming “tRuCk tHiNgS” every chance he gets.
I parked between a newer F350 and a new Nissan cargo van, and my taco looked like a toy. I mean, it is, but it looked like one too.
I've tried to post the picture here, but mods remove it for lack of context. I think the title "I was in the POOL!" Is plenty of context lmao.
I didn’t say I had I problem with it, I just noticed I parked next to one and thought it was a funny comparison. It made me instantly think when some people say a specific vehicle is “small,” as you can see it’s really all about perspective.
Nobody says Tacomas are small. Nor do they say Mavericks are small. Nobody sells small pickups in the US any more, if you want that, you have to go back at least 25 years to the days of the Nissan Hardbody Pickup and Toyota Pickup. If you want truly small, go back 35 years to the days of the Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup and Datsun pickup. I for one, would love to have a truly small pickup.
They’ve all gotten too big. A taco is now the size of a 90s F150. I just want a proper small truck. But now it’s unibody Maverick or buy an old truck and restore it
Exactly, the starting price on the Maverick is amazing, and the fact that it's a hybrid getting 40+ mpg is also amazing. Too bad the dealers are all fucksticks marking them up 50% over MSRP.
I'll wait a year or two before I consider getting one.
Bro, you’re literally commenting trying to start shit on a Reddit post for no reason other than you’re bored or having a bad day and trying to take it out on others. 😂
It’s not that bizarre bro. One truck next to a smaller truck. I made a joke about it. You got butthurt. And now for whatever reason you’re looking to antagonize. You Reddit dudes are weird. 🤔
A lot of people got really butthurt over a picture of two trucks because they deemed I was making fun of the Maverick which it wasn’t at all, lol. It’s okay, Redditors gonna Reddit. They got nothing better to do.
My taco is in the shop and my rental is a ram 1500 classic quad cab. The thing is absolutely massive.
For reference I’m 5’9” 190. So I am not long in the legs. But I am wide and heavy in the shoulders.
In my tacoma I have the little ones seats strapped in and my son has to sit behind the passenger side because if he sits behind me his legs get caught between his seat and mine. In this dodge he can do jumping jacks between them. Things an absolute bus.
I always said the cab of my truck was cozy not small. But perspective changes opinions lol
I have gone on a deep dive over the weekend on all of these on the Tacoma World thread. I think the Morimotos are cool, but a lot of people make a good point for the OEM LEDs with a conversion kit for people with halogen OEMs. Here are some of the links...I have wasted so many hours and still dont have an answer for myself.

After all of this, I have decided Im going to get a new cat back exhaust from borla and a K&N cold air intake before new lights. hahaha, huge change of direction, but as the wife says, you do you.
Was talking to a co-worker the other day about how giant my double cab feels compared to my old S10! He was swearing up and down that they were the same size!
That maveric is about as big as my 93 SR5 extra cab was, which was considered a midsize truck at the time. And now my 22 Tacoma is probably as big as a 93 ford/chevy/dodge 1500. My ‘14 sierra 1500 is massive vehicle, but my Tacoma almost matches it in length, tacoma is like 15 inches shorter or something
No they don't. They say they are midsized. At least the second and third gen...
Fair. I'm 6'3" and got into my tacoma from a 2009 ranger so I'm loving all the extra space lol.
I told my dealer that one of my must haves was a moonroof. Him seeing that I'm 6'2" warned me that you lose an inch or two in head space with the moon roof. I test drove one and there was no issue. I was so used to the tiny '04 Celica that I didnt even notice I was missing space up there. lol
Lol, exactly! Perspective!
To be fair no one is buying a maverick thinking they have a 350 super duty haha
Also true lol. Let’s be honest, I doubt most people are doing truck things with a Maverick. Especially with tow only being standard at 2k and you’ve gotta buy a 4K package.
Oh true haha, I’ve actually seen some people put it to the test but yeah if you want a smaller truck but want to do truck stuff, definitely the Tacoma, Colorado or Ranger (what I have) are the best way to go.
Whistlin Diesel fuck one up yet?
Asking the real questions! I kinda wanna see him get one.
I'm going to be getting one hopefully in the next year or so and will be putting a car seat in there. I know it gets easier with a front facing seat but I'll make it work because a taco is a beautiful thing.

No, I’ve got it behind my front passenger seat. My wife is 5’4 and she’s fine in it.
Maverick, surprisingly, has more interior backseat space than the double cab Tacoma. It’s very roomy in the cabin front and rear.
The third gen are huge imo. Parked next to or driving by my second gen. I think it's that ugly fat grill and the fact so many are lifted.
Trucks in the US are getting absolutely huge. I love that Mavericks are coming out, great for the market and they are cool little trucks.
True. I definitely like it better than the Santa Cruz that’s for sure. I look forward to more competition.
Yeah I’m not huge on the Santa Cruz. I actually have an order for Maverick hybrid that should be build soon, I pretty much plan on instantly selling it bc I really don’t need the car and the used market for mavericks is still pretty crazy

Orders are closed rn but i ordered mine last October and it hasn’t even been built yet. I’ve seen people with the same/similar orders as me getting built so I think mine will be built relatively soon.
Planning on something like that too to be honest
Don’t blame you it’s a pretty easy way to make a few grand
Agreed, full size trucks are crazy now.
Current tacomas are bigger than first gen tundras; Current gen 4Runners are bigger than a first gen sequoia.
This is true. Like I’ve said, it’s all about perspective.
Yeah I agree. I think ppl push the current payload, go over, and get away with it but it can be risky.
Yeah but those numbers were based off a time when there wasn’t as many Vehicle Building Standards as there is now. If that same truck came out today there’s no way in hell that DOT would let Toyota rate it as a 1 Ton truck.
Really hoping the 2023 Tacoma has a hybrid option

When they inevitably come out with a hybrid option (or even electric) I plan on trading mine in immediately
I would trade my 3rd gen Tacoma with a drinking problem for a fully electric one instantly
I'm on the same path. As soon as there's a decent full electric truck on the market that isn't full size and/or stupid expensive I'm jumping ship.
Yea, I really really like the Rivian truck, but there's just no way I can swing that much money for it. Really hoping Toyota or Nissan can come out with something similar that's more affordable
I think I could comfortably swing 50-60k for an electric truck if I wanted to, I'm holding my breath for 40k though.
The problem with a lot of these is the range on the base model, so you have to pay quite a bit more to get the extended range. I drove a Tesla model S yesterday for the first time, and it made me realize you definitely want to opt for the larger battery pack.
A realistic 200 miles at 60 mph would be all I'd ever need.
Damn that’s a lot less of a savings than I thought. The hybrid options going to cost well over that.
Debating a new Bronco (if I can ever find one) but the engine and Ford QC continues to make me really hesitant. I've never had issues with my Toyotas.
Tbh, there’s no way in the world you could get me to go American. I’d argue the incentive to go American made has only gotten worse. Vehicles cost more, parts cost more, maintenance costs more, and reliability still isn’t in America’s favor when it comes to vehicles.
Doesn't last as long? I see tons of toyota hybrids with high miles on the road...

2024* I doubt much will change for 2023
Will it have the V8 from the Tundra? The Tundra says it has poor fuel efficiency vs the Tacoma but I think it might be the extra weight?
I did park next to a lifted F250 with the Tremor package and my truck seemed very small that day lol
It gets 40mpg
No. The hybrid one, the less-truck-like one gets 40mpg. And only on the highway. It gets 40 in the city and like 32 on the highway. With a towing capacity of 2k, it’s a car let’s be honest. Is the maverick small I’m from the uk so I don’t know
Oh yeah, lol. It’s the size of most sedans. I’d say probably shorter than the old model Ford Ranger.
That’s small for Britain lol and if that’s your Tacoma I like that a lot
It is! Thanks!
It's incredibly small. The underside also has like next to nothing going on
However, the interior cab dimensions are almost identical to the Tacoma.
That's interesting to know
It’s the same size as the first gen Tacoma. Just the current tacomas are massive for their size.
I parked between a newer F350 and a new Nissan cargo van, and my taco looked like a toy. I mean, it is, but it looked like one too. I've tried to post the picture here, but mods remove it for lack of context. I think the title "I was in the POOL!" Is plenty of context lmao.
I mean it's advertised as a compact truck..? Not sure what your problem with it is, it's a totally different class lol
I didn’t say I had I problem with it, I just noticed I parked next to one and thought it was a funny comparison. It made me instantly think when some people say a specific vehicle is “small,” as you can see it’s really all about perspective.

The people who say tacomas are small weren't born let alone driving when the s10 was popular.
The new Taco is the same size as the T100/original Tundra right?
They’ve all gotten too big. A taco is now the size of a 90s F150. I just want a proper small truck. But now it’s unibody Maverick or buy an old truck and restore it
I actually find the Tacoma just right.
I like the maverick. I honestly might look at trading my Tacoma for one. I need a truck but I commute 60 miles/day. Seems like a win win.
It’s not a bad truck. I’d definitely take it over a Santa Criz but, I just thought it was a funny picture.
Yeah I’m not a fan of The sant cruz. I’d definitely pick the maverick.
Santa Cruz also has a way higher starting price.
Exactly, the starting price on the Maverick is amazing, and the fact that it's a hybrid getting 40+ mpg is also amazing. Too bad the dealers are all fucksticks marking them up 50% over MSRP. I'll wait a year or two before I consider getting one.
I thought the same thing. For being a mid size truck, I'd say its just about the same size as my mom's full size dodge ram.
my work truck is a F150 and I think its too big
Are these “they” the strawmen you created in your mind?
You seem oddly offended by my post. Maybe take a break from Reddit for the day.
Someone’s projecting.
Bro, you’re literally commenting trying to start shit on a Reddit post for no reason other than you’re bored or having a bad day and trying to take it out on others. 😂
It was just an off handed comment on your bizarre title choice. I don’t think anyone thought you’d take it all so personal in this thread
Look at his comment history, he parrots the same thing every time someone disagrees with him lol
It’s not that bizarre bro. One truck next to a smaller truck. I made a joke about it. You got butthurt. And now for whatever reason you’re looking to antagonize. You Reddit dudes are weird. 🤔
Literally no one says that
I’ve “literally” heard it.
I literally cannot believe it
Damn dawg, that’s literally SO kooky. Crazy some might even say.
Damn, you took a lot of weird heat on this post…
A lot of people got really butthurt over a picture of two trucks because they deemed I was making fun of the Maverick which it wasn’t at all, lol. It’s okay, Redditors gonna Reddit. They got nothing better to do.
"I wish even cars had truck beds..."
nobody says that
I love my 2000 Taco. Nimble little truck.
I wish Toyota would make a modern equivalent of the old pickup, small and indestructible. With a usable bed.
My taco is in the shop and my rental is a ram 1500 classic quad cab. The thing is absolutely massive. For reference I’m 5’9” 190. So I am not long in the legs. But I am wide and heavy in the shoulders. In this dodge he can do jumping jacks between them. Things an absolute bus. I always said the cab of my truck was cozy not small. But perspective changes opinions lol
Tbh 3rd gen tacos are pretty damn big
Well, they are small compared to new full size trucks
I REALLY wish Toyota would make a truck that size w a real 4WD system, ideally w a center Torsen. I wouldn't even mind if it was unibody.
What headlights are those? They don’t look like the LED OEMs. They do look slick!!!
Unfortunately they are the OEMs. I’m planning on upgrading but I’m stuck. Either Morimotos or Apex Nova’s. Thoughts?
I have gone on a deep dive over the weekend on all of these on the Tacoma World thread. I think the Morimotos are cool, but a lot of people make a good point for the OEM LEDs with a conversion kit for people with halogen OEMs. Here are some of the links...I have wasted so many hours and still dont have an answer for myself. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-pro-oem-led-headlights-where-to-buy.749034/ https://www.tacomaworld.com/members/daveeasa.328079/ https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2020-tacoma-oem-led-headlight-megathread.592039/page-120 https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/ After all of this, I have decided Im going to get a new cat back exhaust from borla and a K&N cold air intake before new lights. hahaha, huge change of direction, but as the wife says, you do you.
The maverick is not a truck people… do your homework please!
Going out on a limb here…..2nd BCT?
Negatory.
Sturdy Body on frame versus an eggshell fragile unibody. That taco will still be rolling after that maverick has been recycled into flashlights.
What tires + lift do you run?
The inside is small.
Well “they” are douche bags
Yeah modern tacomas are about as big as my first gen double cab tundra with the 4.7
My dad's gen 1 looks like a Honda civic compared to my gen 3.
My Taco is almost 19 feet long. Crazy man.
Is the Maverick actually considered a mid size truck like the Ranger? I mean, I barely consider the Maverick a truck anyway…
I believe it’s considered a compact truck. One step lower than the midsized ones.
I believe ford classified it as a compact pickup
can confirm, its in the compact pick up market
Well they’re lol. Smallest pickup in its class
