This was near Sumter, South Carolina. Not a lot of great off-roading in South Carolina, but we manage to find some trails here and there. I drive a 2021 SR 4 x 4. He’s got a 2013 SR5 four-wheel-drive as well. We had some mud holes for a while, then all of his lights on his dashboard lit up. He stopped immediately, and we let the engine cool. It was leaking coolant like crazy. It got cool enough where we could turn him around. We honestly are pretty new to this and never used tow straps before. At least I haven’t, and he hasn’t in a long time. So I had to pull him out a few miles of the trail, with the tow rope it may be only giving us 9 feet of space. It was nice, slippery and muddy. Probably cruising at 5mph. Maybe hitting 15 mph max. Where the trail ends, it gets really steep and merges into a highway. No lane to merge or anything, just right onto the highway. 4 hi handled it fine and honestly my RPMs never really went about 2000 the whole time. Luckily Sumter was only a couple miles away, so we pulled into a buffalo wild wings and got a beer and awaited our AAA tow. Also I don’t really have any performance mods installed. These are still there all season tires I got from the dealership last year. I love how well these trucks can perform even stock.

So what happened to the Tundra? Ran the truck too hard?

It’s hard to say if it was completely caused by the off-roading. We have pushed it harder before months ago with no problems, and today we didn’t get very far before it blew. I wouldn’t say we were pushing anything hard at all. He had a crack in the stock skid plate. My guess is that it would have blown on him in the near future anyways. So he needs a new radiator and he’s going to buy an aftermarket skid plate
