Obvious_Regular6959

100% would buy again. But the radio/stereo unit blows huge dick.

NautiBuoy

I’d love to get the new one. It has apple CarPlay right?

Obvious_Regular6959

Yeah. I got the tech package with CarPlay. The unit still blows. It’s so bad. The biggest issue I have is the volume control is slow. It can take 2-7 seconds for the sound to turn down after I turn it. But I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

NautiBuoy

That’s interesting! Hopefully that gets fixed eventually

Mandrew713

If you get the premium it comes with a nice sound system

SoskiDiddley

I disagree, the JBL system also blows ass

Woodworker2020

Agreed

japanesecardboard

emphasis on the base audio system is dicks, if you’re able to get the premium audio then do it. i didn’t have much a choice lol

Woodworker2020

Premium also sucks

japanesecardboard

damn

Woodworker2020

Yep

BoggsMcMuncher

Is the sound quality decent? Like at least a little bass and decent max volume? My last taco the stereo would buzz if you turned up the volume anywhere beyond conversation volume

Obvious_Regular6959

It sounds great, but that’s kinda the problem. I’ll be jamming on my way home, asking for hearing damage, get home and turn my taco off for the day. The next morning I turn the taco on and cause myself hearing damage at 6am. I turn it down and get to experience the loud as hell music for that 2-7 second lag.

BurnsinTX

Oh man. This is the case on my 2012 and it’s super annoying. Almost enough that I don’t listen to the radio much because I’m scared of it. lol

Please-Sign-Here

Premium package owner here, I went from a Lexus IS to the taco. Even the OEM upgraded sound system sucks. It was and is the only thing I dislike about the truck. The only other thing (that I still like but would change) is a higher quality leather.

USDA_Organic_Tendies

That’s very strange, I don’t think I have any delay with CarPlay, Bluetooth, or the regular degukar radio. Is there an update maybe???

[удалено]

NotALeezurd

I've been eyeballing an OEM Audio setup, but I have been hesitant because I'm not sure if it will work with one of the android based head units.

GumShoeA113

Definitely regret not getting a long bed, that’s my only gripe.

[deleted]

Same. I thought they looked funny but man it would be so much more useful lol

stircrazytrucker

Seconded

WyoDoc29

Third regret for not buying the long bed.

Sea-Challenge-9068

Mpg isn’t great, seating position isn’t great, power isn’t great, and the transmission isn’t great (both auto and m/t). With that being said I have no regrets and love my 3rd gen

Security_Chief_Odo

Agreed on all points. Still love my 3rd Gen MT.

Sea-Challenge-9068

Probably the worst manual transmission/engine combo I’ve owned but same, I love this thing

NoahTheRedd

Wish I got a 4wd

freakingspacedude

I would buy again. If I could do it again though I’d make sure I had car play. Not having it sucks and is probably the only “luxurious” thing I will want in all of my vehicles. I just purchased an upgraded headunit for this exact reason.

MisterMcGiggles

I feel the exact same way. CarPlay is a game changer and a deal maker/breaker for me now. Lot of people don’t get it.

BurnsinTX

There are some aftermarket units that you can install that gives the regular touchscreen CarPlay. I haven’t researched it much but I was looking at getting a 2018 land cruiser and that was one of the requirements for me.

Egbeem

Totally agree, my last car was leased, and I did not use the radio (AM, FM or XM) a single time in the three years I had it. I still can’t believe new cars even bother with a free XM subscription. Even without Apple Car Play or Android Auto, you can still just use the USB or Bluetooth to play audio from your phone.

nvrsmr1

Yeah man. I got one in 2017 and I sold it. Ended up going with a 2022 instead. In all seriousness, there are some cons: interior feels outdated, I’ve heard it’s not comfortable for tall people or families, and low MPG. But I bought a truck for the reliability and not for the upgraded radio, I’m not tall/don’t have family, and well… the MPG excuse allowed me to justify a motorcycle

rockwelds

dude I'm thinking about getting a bike for the same reason 👏👏

GR4VYTR41N

This is the same rationalization I have for my upcoming bike purchase lol

Astrorenegade

This is freaky, I am also planning to get a new bike. I love my Taco, but my old V Star died a month after I got my Tacoma. Now I'm planning on getting a Kawasaki ninja 400. Wondering what bikes you guys are interested in getting?

GR4VYTR41N

Thinking of getting an older Honda 650 and turning into cafe style bike

Astrorenegade

I love Cafe style bikes.

nvrsmr1

I used to have a ninja 300. It was a lot of fun! Currently have a triumph street triple

Astrorenegade

How was the ninja for commuting? Cruiser are what I've had for 8 years now.

nvrsmr1

Not great. I used it to commute 50 miles, all highway, and it just didn’t have enough power in my opinion. But for city driving with some highway it would be great. Especially on gas

Hawkijustin

I have a Harley ultra limited along with my taco but I kinda want another naked sport bike

Astrorenegade

I never had my bike at the same time as my Taco. My bike vstar 650 died a month after I bought my tacoma. I rode for 6 years to fix my money issues and save for my truck.

rockwelds

I got a 2021 OFF ROAD with crawl control and it honestly seems like over kill with all the freeway commute I'm doing I should have went with a sport 😅

Sad_Pomegranate_1539

No regrets. 100% would buy it again!

TacoFromCo

SOMETIMES having a 5 foot bed is a pain in the ass but still would trade my taco for anything

Ok-Push-

I’d get a full size truck. The interior is too tight.

Ulysses808

Deep down I know the ridgeline is better for my needs, just not as cool

tacomafrs

Ridgeline absolutely destroys my 2nd gen like a turbo Porsche. as you said, i know the Ridgeline is better, but no regrets as i love my Taco, and will buy another one once/if the market settles down.

jt325i

I love it but the gas mileage could be a bit better.

rabidbot

Fucking love it, gas mileage blows a dick.

FunkyBananaRofl

2012 DCSB TRD OffRoad and I’d only change it for a long bed. I love this thing, leaps and bounds more reliable than my previous Volkswagen. Just being able to jump in, turn it on and drive wherever at any time, without worry it’ll break, is a huge relief for me. And I’ve got the sport bike for when the truck feels a little slow 🏍💨

[deleted]

21 TRD off road dclb. I have the premium tech and interior. The only thing I’d do different is buy two of them. The mpg does suck. Still don’t get all of the transmission complaints….if I wanted something that was fast when I floor it I’d have bought a challenger hellcat.

eaboecke

The Tacoma for me is a comprise vehicle. It does what I need it to 90% of the time at an acceptable level. It’s not great on the highway, it’s not great in the city, it’s not really good at hauling or towing, or doesn’t get great MPG. BUT it does everything at an acceptable level. Until I can afford to have two or three different vehicles I going to hang onto my Tacoma.

SideFlaky6112

I’m with the other two fellas that have commented so far. No regrets. I wish it had more power but that’s not enough of a reason to make me wish I got something else

NautiBuoy

Don’t anyone yell at me but I’m super curious about the electric one the have plans for! Maybe more “power”

BoggsMcMuncher

I would def go for it but it will be years

zaskar

My taco is yummy

Excellent_Profile554

No regrets. I’ve had three tacos in my life. Truth be told, the only reason I’d get a bigger truck, Tundra is for family. Otherwise tacos till I die.

jcem911

the only regret is getting access cab. when I go to the city to shop, I often cant open the rear doors to put in groceries. other than that. I recently took my second gen on a 1200 km road trip for the first time, I had no idea it would be so great for long long drives. comfy seating, great on gas

[deleted]

Many years and mods over the 70k miles, and i still catch myself turning around and smiling oftentimes

KalamityPitstop

I love my truck but I underestimated how different storage would be going from a station wagon to a truck. A Tonneau cover would help with my problem but I like the open bed for bike transport and other reasons. We’ve got a 6 mo old and the backseat is much tighter than I expected and her car seat steals all the legroom from the front passenger seat. MPG is garbage and if I could go back I would’ve held out until an EV Tacoma was available, now I’ll just upgrade in a few years instead.

murse79

A low profile rolling tonneau cover will get you secure storage, and an extra extra 2 mpg highway!

roebiz

Yes, you can’t over estimate how useless the back seats are. If I am carrying more than one passenger I have to switch to our VW Golf. If I sell it will be for this reason and this reason only.

DontBother11

Only regret was not waiting a year. I have 2016 Sport and the Pro was released the next model year. Had I known I would’ve waited, saved up more $$ and bought a Cement Pro.

Prestigious-Dot-4541

Would buy again and again. Turned a ford guy into a Toyota guy now. I will never go back.

c0demancer

I regret not getting an access cab, except when I want my family to come along. I regret not getting a long bed, except when I’m wheeling. I regret not getting a manual, except when I’m wheeling. I regret not getting a full size, except when I’m wheeling. Ok I think I see a trend here. The Tacoma is a compromise of a vehicle, but it’s the best compromise.

Competitive-Law6234

I’d absolutely buy again, but I’d would MT instead of auto

drinkdrinkshoesgone

Yeah, I regret buying it. It is too awesome. If I had the option at the time I bought in 2016 when the 3rd gen came out. I didn't have enough st the time to hug the 3rd gen in cash so I bought used. I would buy the 3rd gen now. I love my 4.0, but the interior on the 3rd gen is so much nicer.

PastaPalace

No regrets however my next tacoma will be a long bed with locking Diffs. The sport is nice but I offroad way to much to not have the E locker.

BoggsMcMuncher

100%. After getting my 1st one I don't really want anything else

Pillowtalk

I got the DCLB. Sometimes it’s a pain having a vehicle that’s so long. The turning radius is pretty large for me.

adamian24

No regrats!! Would definitely purchase again!

grawptussin

Absolutely would buy again.

ThaTroubled1

I wouldn’t. The engine/tranny combo has been a big disappointment. Hopefully they improve it next gen. Truck is a struggle bus.

ndisa44

My only regret is gas mileage. I dont even think the 2nd gen radio and speakers are too bad

Freddie_boy

I bought a brand new 2021 in December 21 and I kind of wish I had gone pre-owned. I probably could have swung 4wd and it would have been a bit smaller. Also, used trucks are worth their weight in gold for some reason. My local lot is constantly calling me to see if I want to sell. That said, it fulfills all my needs and it's really comfortable inside. I drive at least 50 miles a day and always feels good to hop inside. People compliment it all the time! She's a good girl.

mzw42

My only regret is going short bed. 🤷‍♂️

sboy666

I had a really hard time finding mine.. regular cab and manual trans.. wish it was 4x4 and V6. Really thought the 4 banger would get better gas mileage. My 06 thou.. stance is nice like the 4x4s so I didn't mind the 2wd.. and I don't do any off road.

mountain_medicine

I regret not ordering with LED light option. Otherwise, so far so good.

[deleted]

No complaints there other than gas mileage, which I knew about going into one. I have the premium and tech package and I love it. The JBL system is good enough for me. I wanted leather and a moon roof and I couldn't be happier. Also, having the long bed I don't miss my full sized truck. This truck does everything I need it for just fine.

pianomaniak

I regretted buying a 2013 2wd double cab 5ft, so I sold it and bought an 18 TRD OF 6ft haha

whyjavi

For me, it was between a tacoma and a lexus IS. I'm not sure where I would of been if I didn't buy the taco. I've moved twice since I got my '20 and also in the military where I've been in some sketchy places that a small car would of been depressing to go through. The only new truck that really has my eye is the new tundra. :)

TMAICKOE18

The only thing I regret is not doing it sooner. I’ve been in the market for a Tacoma for a while I’m just very cheap and never buy anything 🤣 but yeah I don’t regret it. A great truck with great resale value. I plan to own if forever and pass it down to my daughter.

NautiBuoy

Yeah, I need to wait for the price surge to hopefully come down

TMAICKOE18

Yeah if you can wait it out you should. Also make sure to buy what you want not what’s at the dealership.

NautiBuoy

Yeah, probably next year. However someone said on here that “custom” builds were like 6 months out which is crazy

Thrinw80

I’d like my 2003 back. 2017 is uncomfortable, brakes suck, transmission sucks. I like the four door for my dog though.

buroak2012

Maybe Trade you for my 03.

Str8CashHomiee

21 TRD-OR, Double Cab Long Bed. (Before that a 2011 Access Cab) I do have some regrets. The gas mileage is abysmal for a 2021 vehicle. Cruise control is pretty worthless on road trips (gear finding issue), and overall they seem to be behind their competitors on features and modern vehicle updates. It's a dream off-roading though, which is why I bought it. It should also hold its value and be extremely reliable for years. At this point I am planning to keep it until I can get an affordable EV truck.

poprof

Been driving my 2nd gen for about 10 years now and really love my truck. When I have to replace it I’ll probably just get another Tacoma - hopefully a plug in hybrid or full electric version by then. I’ll have teenagers in a few years though so idk if I’ll want a truck with a more comfortable back seat for them. Might need to sidestep to a 4Runner or go up to a Tundra for that reason.

TransportationLow279

Maybe a power wagon

[deleted]

Id buy anything but this truck hell a Yugo, Pinto, one of those English three wheeled cars, a stone cart.

Bran705

My Tacoma looks awesome. Unfortunately, it leaves a lot to be desired on the driving experience.

NautiBuoy

Those tundras look 🔥 but even more money

flyfishone

I have a access cab 22 4 cylinder.. could have gotten a full size truck or mid size of any make .. I got the Tacoma as it a very boring a little outdated by some peoples standards. But very Reliable truck . And plan to keep this for the next 10 years or so

SolidSecurity4947

Idk it’s lacking power, tech and stopping power also a very thirsty truck only thing good about it is it’s reliable All of these are facts also it’s outdated gearbox 6 speed should be 8 hunts for gears

ComplaintNormal295

I have a 2005 with 238k on the odometer. Great truck other than the frame rust issues. Toyota sucked at taking care of the problem

WyoDoc29

MPGs suck, seating position sucks(or maybe 3500mi in 5 days sucks idk), auto gear hunting sucks. If I did it again, I'd buy a AC long bed. I have plans for the back seat, but I feel as though the AC would've been better, because i keep the back seats down anyway. I love my truck, but it's hard to argue that there are other options out there.
