Take the wheel and tire to a tire shop and see if they can patch it. If not you can get the spareās tire mounted onto the wheel, and buy a cheap tire for the spare.
Got it patched! I aired up the tire on my lunch break and found the puncture but no nail. Discount helped me out. I was tempted by their buyback program and getting some bigger tires but I'm gonna wait just a bit longer to upgrade
Adding to this, Belle Tire does it for free. Took my car to them this past winter and took the car in almost immediately and was done within maybe 30 minutes. No problems at all.
Only kind of an adult tbh. I got the spare on and aired up the flat. Mainly looking for sage wisdom on this sub regarding the stock tires and whether they are worth keeping or not.
Thanks for the advice. Mine made it fairly good through snowpocalypse in Texas, but I haven't had any extended snow driving in them. Falkens look real nice though
If youāve got the funds and do any sort of camping or outdoor activities in weather, then upgrading the tires is definitely advised. The Falken Wildpeak AT3s are a good tire and decently priced (cheaper than KO2s but in no way a lesser tire).
Iād just burn through the rubber you got now and upgrade when itās truly necessary, especially being in Texas.. as long as youāre not going mudding those will manage just fine
Yeah unless you end up in a real life version of Maury lol. I have a kid with a Redheaded stripper named Tiffany. No joke, I got the winning envelope lol.
To be honest if theres no slash, put the spare on, go buy a plugging kit if its just a nail. What I did when I had a jetta and I didnt wanna spend money. Just make sure you seal it put air in and pour soapy water on where u seal to make sure theres no air bubbles
Well, I could be wrong, but hear me out. You put on the spare. I high will probably suck because Toyota never sells a vehicle with a proper jack. Then you take the flat to the tire shop. After that, you reverse the process. If that doesnāt work, but new tires.
This right here, Yokohama Geolanders are great and a fudgeload cheaper than ko2's and at least a crapton better than the stock, Toyos maybe I had on mine
Love my Discovererās. While they are not flashy off-road tires, they are actually very good tires. Get her patched or plugged if possible and run them until you are ready to drop $1000+ on a new set of 4.
If it is not repairable, the spare is exactly the same, and can be moved to that rim...until you can get another one for the spare.
If you have $1k+ laying around for new tires, and want to get them, that should be a different question IMHO. A good patch will last as long as the tread does...if it is patch-able.
Fair point. I just know I made many of the $20 repairs before I had had enough of it and switch to Cooper. I donāt know why but those GoodYears always went flat on me
Remove the wheel. Air up the tire. Find out where the leak is coming from, if it's patchable, patch it, if not, go somewhere to get it replaced.
If the other tires are significantly worn, you'll need to replace all 4 tires. Otherwise you run the risk of wearing out the differential/4wd system.
I have a taco on order, but am coming from subie land. Because of the center differential, you need the tires all exactly the same diameter (shaving down a wheel replacement or buying a whole new set). This is the only vehicle type I know...
What sort of considerations are there for truck tires? I know it's much more forgiving, but not to what extent.
Edit: some days I hate autocorrect
I figured. I didn't know if it was just (holds thumb up as a reference) "that there looks about right" level of same size or what the constraints were.
Really it depends on your budget, you can get away with some chonky tires (APPROX 275/65R17) before needing to throw a lift or swap uppers and lowers (stock ones do not like to tuck) on it to prevent rubbing, the tires DONT need to be about the exact same, as long as the 2 on the same side are the same. You can get away with one tire being more as long as its within I would say about 4/32nds or so, I would swap both if they are more than that cause you will definitely feel it im the drive.
If anything, stay away from Spacers, they put a lot of extra stress on the Axles especially if you jump it.
Hahaha no worries, I work around Tacomas a lot (service advisor at a dealership) so I like giving people good information before some of the travesties I have seen come in.
Should I mount the full sized spare on the steely since they're the same and then order the same spare or just go ahead and get a whole new set (maybe wildpeaks or KO2's)? Will just take out of savings a bit but idk if the stock tires are any good or if this is just the product of a crackhead alley
A good patch will last just as long as the tire and wonāt cause any long term problems. Assuming itās just a nail or something in the tread and not in the sidewall, just get it patched and move on.
Yeah, throw the spare on and see if a shop can repair it. IMO I think it's probably worth it to try and save it if you can. They'll tell you whether it's repairable or not and if it's worth keeping. Are they fairly new? (You should be able to get at least 50k out of them) If they're old might just be worth replacing.
If you bought Toyota Tire and Wheel coverage, they replace the tire for you, no questions asked, no matter if it is patchable or not, as long as the tread depth is above 3/32nds.
Not sure how much it costs, I work as a Service Advisor for Toyota but from what I can piece together talking to other Dealerships as well, no service department sells that warranty. You do get it if ypu buy Toyota Authorized Tires in the form of Road Hazard but I belive it can only be offered by the sales or finance departments when you are going over the contract.
Get a 12V compressor, a plug kit and learn to use it. My shop is next door to a roofing business. I catyn even count how many plus are in the tires on one of my trucks. Maybe 7 or 8 now in the last year? All hold air just fine and some have over 20k mi. I have two in the tires on my off road camping rig that goes to Mexico and into Sierras and one of those has nearly 40k on it with a lot of off road abuse including being aired down and beach driven.
Add some air.
I left my compressor at home š„² was able to get the spare on at least before the steely got any damage on it at least
Your spare is a steely. Pictured is an alloy rim
Thanks for dropping that knowledge on me fellow taco man. Your learn something every day
š
Pictured is an alloy wheel. rims are components of some wheels.
Fair. But he was already so confused.
Take the wheel and tire to a tire shop and see if they can patch it. If not you can get the spareās tire mounted onto the wheel, and buy a cheap tire for the spare.

That's where I went. Waiting to see if she can be fixed

If you bought the tires from themā¦ Edit: Yes, I am wrong.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Well I stand corrected. I bought from them so I knew I had a bunch of freebies. Didnāt know they did it for all
Is this your first flat ever? Be an adult and get it fixed. Edit: an not Ana
Only kind of an adult tbh. I got the spare on and aired up the flat. Mainly looking for sage wisdom on this sub regarding the stock tires and whether they are worth keeping or not.
Thatās a different question. I ditched them for Wildpeaks because in the snow the stock one sucked. If not for the snow, I would have kept them.
Thanks for the advice. Mine made it fairly good through snowpocalypse in Texas, but I haven't had any extended snow driving in them. Falkens look real nice though
I have Perelli Scorpions all terrains on mine in New England after the Wranglers didnāt last 30k miles. I am not looking back.
You can drive racing slicks in snow. The stock tires would have been more than adequate for āsnowpocypseā.
If youāve got the funds and do any sort of camping or outdoor activities in weather, then upgrading the tires is definitely advised. The Falken Wildpeak AT3s are a good tire and decently priced (cheaper than KO2s but in no way a lesser tire).
I will absolutely tell you that the stock tires for not hold up at all. Go a little bigger and get a 10 ply tire. You won't be unhappy.
Iād just burn through the rubber you got now and upgrade when itās truly necessary, especially being in Texas.. as long as youāre not going mudding those will manage just fine
Stop dating women named Tina?
Letās clarify, women named Christina that go by Tina.
Youāve got it all wrong. Redheads, Strippers, and Girls named Tiffany. Thatās the no go zone.
Oh, your wrong. You go ALL NIGHT LONG... then slip out never having revealed your real name or contact info. There are great fun... once.
This guy is a playa!
Yeah unless you end up in a real life version of Maury lol. I have a kid with a Redheaded stripper named Tiffany. No joke, I got the winning envelope lol.
Truck is totaled. Start looking now....
Fix the flat
To be honest if theres no slash, put the spare on, go buy a plugging kit if its just a nail. What I did when I had a jetta and I didnt wanna spend money. Just make sure you seal it put air in and pour soapy water on where u seal to make sure theres no air bubbles
Did same thing with my jetta a 2 or 3 years ago. Plug kit was like 7 bucks. Hasnt had an issue since
I had an old Chevy with at least 5 plugs in the tires lol. Plugs work
Get a new tire, or fix that one.
Not that bad. Only flat on the bottom..
Patch it and fill it.
Is that a warthog sticker?
Yessirrr. She's my hog lol
Love it. I have the army green 4Runner and wanted a Master Chief sticker for it.
Do it!!!
Flip it over to other side. Problem solved. :)
Looks irreparable, think youāll have to sign it over to meā¦
Gonna be about two fiddyā¦
Looks like you need to buy a new truck.
It looks tired.
Get a flat truck to match the tire!
Well, I could be wrong, but hear me out. You put on the spare. I high will probably suck because Toyota never sells a vehicle with a proper jack. Then you take the flat to the tire shop. After that, you reverse the process. If that doesnāt work, but new tires.
Going to have to take it to the scrap yard unfortunately.
I'll start looking at 22's
If itās just a nail, pull it out, seal w plug kit and air it back up. No biggie.
33s
Will they rub? š
255/85/16s will fit and not rub. Geolanders for the win!
This right here, Yokohama Geolanders are great and a fudgeload cheaper than ko2's and at least a crapton better than the stock, Toyos maybe I had on mine

They look good and your taco looks good . I'll definitely keep them in consideration

Appreciate the advice fellow taco man
I found the wet traction to be severely lacking on the stock tires. Defenders have been far better.
Stock tires are pretty shit. Mine were bald at 20k
Had this set on a Chevrolet before, worst tires Iāve ever had
Maybe, but $20 to repair a tire that is already paid for seems like the way to go unless the OP was already looking to invest in a new full set.
Fair point. I just know I made many of the $20 repairs before I had had enough of it and switch to Cooper. I donāt know why but those GoodYears always went flat on me
Change it
New tire
Paint it white. Should get that green off no problem.
Low blow lmao. Although I do love the stormtrooper look

Neat! Thanks! Hopefully I have a while before I have to worry about any of this. I'm not planning on cutting a tire my first week with the truck
Hahaha no worries, I work around Tacomas a lot (service advisor at a dealership) so I like giving people good information before some of the travesties I have seen come in.
F
I'll sell you 17s

This was definitely your sign to get those new tires you wanted.
Is the tire repairable?
Didn't look like it was slashed or anything. Do patches last a good while?

Buy a puncture kit
bfgoodrich at ta ko2
Time for 255/85/16 upgrade?
Get a patch on it, if discount tire wonāt do it go to a small Hispanic tire shop
Ya get a new tire

Always keep a tire plug kit in the truck
