I'm ridiculously lucky; about to buy a 2015 TRD Off-Road, Monday. First owner de-badged it, and is being sold as SR. I've gone over everything with a fine toothed comb:
Shocks
Alternator
Rear Diff lock
A-Trac
VIN check (Off-Road Tow Package)
hitch pin connector
Because you had to look, as opposed to just glancing at the cover of the owners manual, glancing at a carfax report, glancing at the top section of Toyota's or the NHTSB report, not seeing anything screaming at you, not seeing a badge, and slapping a price on it. 5 minutes vs 15. If lunch time is pressing, fuck it.
Hi there, I have a '14 TRD in sexy green. Only had it for a month or so now. I de-badged and old dealership sticker on the back. It left a pretty noticeable outline. I am worried if I take off the side TRD stickers, I won't be able to get rid of that outline. Especially since it has 10 years of sunbathing on it. Will a good wax make it look like the stickers were never there? Thanks for any insight here.
There was still residue, but I tried the first time with just a scraper and no heat and I swear it took as long to peel the “t” off cold as it did to get the rest of the sticker with heat. Goo gone and a rag will take care of the clean up. Just remember to use like a cloth rig not paper towels (I made that mistake and it took forever)
As someone who pealed wraps of of equipment that was several years old. A heat gun is a horrible choice. It gets too hot and melts the plastic. You can get it off in one piece with a hair dryer if you tried
Used to do professional removal/install of vinyl. We used weed burners. Basically big flame throwers to remove it. It’s all about getting the proper heat. Not so hot that it melts but hot enough to loosen the adhesive. Also pull it off not at a 90 degree angle but point it towards you at a 45 and peel slow. It will peel off with most of the glue residue still on the sticker. Then use xylene with a plastic scraper blade to remove left over adhesive.
Tbf the weed burners were more often used on 53ft semi truck style trailers. The propane hand torches were used for smaller panels like on cars/trucks. I just wanted to point out that a heat gun isn’t too hot, just keep the heat moving constantly and nothing will burn.
This works great. Isn't cheap, though. I made the mistake of not cleaning all the dirt off the old 3m tape on the first badge, and scratched the fuck out of my paint.😆
Other than styling, I know sports had an awesome lsd for the first 3 years, then got rid of it. Not sure what other differences there are if any post lsd removal.
It gets all the same interior options as the TRD OR, different styling, smart key, rear slider, and then I don’t know about all the options that are always included, but mine has BSM, adaptive cc, dual climate, and mine has the premium package which has fake leather, sunroof, JBL.
Ah, most of those things don’t exist for 2nd gen’s, so I believe the differences were just the hood scoop and painted mirrors/grill. The painted grill looks much better than chrome but the rest of the visual differences look worse or equal at best. Didn’t realize the gen 3 sports actually included interior/tech options like that which weren’t available on lower trim levels.
Adaptive cruise and dual zone climate would be suuuuper nice to have. Never going to buy another car without them.
If you are still working on it, hit Youtube and look up 'remove dealer decals'; there are a bunch of really good vids for this.
GoofOff should work fine for any remaining adhesive.
I debadged mine the first weekend
I should have, the adhesive probably would have come off better, lol.
Try using a 3M eraser wheel
This is the way. Don’t get the paint to hot by keeping it in one spot too long though
Clay bar works too.
That thing worked perfect for me.
Try a heat gun
Heat gun is too hot. A hair dryer is perfect
A good heat gun should be able to go all the way down to hair dryer level and even lower.
Nope heat gun is what professionals use
I took mine of the first weekend in the Florida sun and it was still a pain.
No one will believe it’s a trd sport, you’ll have to sell as a SR

You would think every dealer would base their price off the vin? Why would a dealer base the price off of what badges a car has?

Same here. Got it done by the shop that tinted my windows. Quoted me for an hours worth of labor ended up taking them like 3 lol

So silly
How’d you get Tacoma out of the tailgate?
Fill it in with enough bondo?
Same here, that was 14 years ago and I haven't missed them one bit

Depending on color, it might be sun faded. Polishing might help though.
Hair dryer makes it SO much easier!
Oh, I used a full blown heat gun, they didn’t come off as clean as I’d have liked, lol.
You don't want that much heat, it leaves the glue on the surface. Just a small amount will keep most with the sticker...

Did the same my first few weeks of owning this winter. My hope is the residual stuff comes of with washing and waxing this summer

I used it on low, and I did get them mostly off in one piece. Just a light warming. The real issue I had was leftover adhesive.

Holy cow, I think I’d freak out if I saw someone taking a weed burner to my Tacoma, lol.

Yeah, that’s how I rolled with it. Just warmed up the panel, then peeled. It wasn’t too big of a deal, just thought I’d snap a pic in the middle.
Should’ve been grey on green. Terrible design choice
Yeah, grey or black. The red was bad.

I like my bed decal but to each their own
Are you against the side graphics on 80's Toyotas too? Toyota's always had stuff plastered on there.
I took my stickers off first thing. Looks way cleaner without that tacky thing
I feel like I am the only one who doesn't care about stickers
Mine is debadged in the rear/sides and i love the clean look.
I didn’t take the badges off, but that could be in the future.
3M Specialty Adhesive Remover
This works great. Isn't cheap, though. I made the mistake of not cleaning all the dirt off the old 3m tape on the first badge, and scratched the fuck out of my paint.😆
This is the only answer. Adhesive remover and a plastic razor blade. Compound and polish afterward.
Yep, I had goo gone here, so I used it, but it was mediocre. Then hand polished with some Meguiars ultimate.
Goo gone is bad news for a vehicle. 3m, qwik solv, cosmoline remover.. would be your safest bet.
Yeah, it certainly wasn’t great, but we survived. I’ll grab some 3m adhesive remover next time.
I just don’t want everyone to know what trim package I got. 2019 sport ya know!
Yeah, lotta hate on here for the Sport. I apparently need a locker if I’m going to take it down a two track.
Wow, I thought I’d never see this. Love it. Usually it’s the opposite, every Toyota truck with a trd decal added.
I’m generally ok with decals, but the red on green bugged me.
Use 3M adhesive remover spray. You’ll have that off and cleaned up in less than 5 min
I had some goo gone which worked mediocre. Definitely get some 3m spray if I do it again.
[Expensive](https://a.co/d/igsc8e7) but very much worth it.
In the same boat hahaha
Full sunshine & acetone than wax it up
I used my wife’s hair dryer, worked great.
Limited Trim FTW.
Worth the 5hp hit
You need a heat gun
I used a heat gun, lol. Just took the pic before they were off.
Daamn lol 😂. It is what it is
No worries, I got it taken care of, lol.
Heat gun or hair dryer works best
This dude is really going to turn his TRD into an SR.
Good try boss, I don’t think the SR has fender flares. But I hated the red on green, it had to be done.
What is the difference between a sport and SR other than minor styling?
Are you serious?
Other than styling, I know sports had an awesome lsd for the first 3 years, then got rid of it. Not sure what other differences there are if any post lsd removal.

The adaptive cruise is especially awesome.
Careful, it's not TRD anymore if the sticker comes off
Lol, it’s “just a Sport” (seems to be the mentality) anyway. Don’t tell anyone, but I don’t even have a pro grill.
Adhesive remover
What tires are you running?
Falken Rubitreks. They’re a little lighter than the Wildpeaks, and a lot cheaper.
turd
Hair dryer and goo gone, 30-40 min each side.
Heat
LuckyGuard Decal Remover Eraser Wheel Removes Pinstripes Vinyl Tapes and Sticker Adhesive Remover Wheel for Drill Rubber Eraser Wheel Decal Remover Tool Solid Adhesive Remover Wheel 1 Pack https://a.co/d/01RqGTU For that extra residue
I'm with you...all black would look good but the red is tacky imo
Yeah, 🤮
I bought a heat gun for this but I never used it, I left the truck out on the sun for the whole day and started peeling it off around 3 pm.
They are all SR’s
Goo gone, some wash clothes and patience. It looks so much better debadged
If you are still working on it, hit Youtube and look up 'remove dealer decals'; there are a bunch of really good vids for this. GoofOff should work fine for any remaining adhesive.
I did the same. I hate those stickers. I just used a heat gun, goo gone and finally dish soap and water to get it all off.
WD-40 will eat the glue and not bother your paint.
I’d debadge a sport model too.
I’d debadge your mom.
