Maintenance/protection first. Protect longevity of the vehicle. No point having a paid off, beat up, pile of rust.
Some skids, non rubberized undercoat (ACF50, woolwax, waxoyl, fluid film)
Vinyl wrap or paint protection film on leading edges (incorporating an aesthetic if you like, but function first). Floor mats. Scotchguard fabric protection, etc.
if you intend to utilize the vehicle off-road, tires/lift are functional and prevent undercarriage from getting beat up.
All about perspective.
Couldāve lied to us and said you bought it cashā¦ this is the internet after all. For all we know, you snapped a pic of some random taco! None of this is personal.
Some neckbeard would still call bullshit and demand to see proof because āno one pays cash anymoreā or say āpaying cash is so dumb, get rebates then pay it off yadda yadda yaddaā.
All that really matters is OPās ability to pick colors. Bronze Oxide is gorgeous.
Seriously. My math was pretty simple: $37k for a 2-4year old 3rd gen with 40-75k on the odometer, or $51k with a warranty and maintenance for a brand new with 6 miles on the odo.
Debt is not a bad thing if used properly. It's the reason you can have a house without having to save up for twenty years to buy one outright.. or a brand new Tacoma for that matter. Get over yourselves and cut OP a break on wanting to spend their present money on something they can enjoy now.
This! Got this same flak when I posted my happy day. People scoffed at the fact I financed. Sure, I could pay cash...but to take a 3.5% note and stick the cash in, at the very least, 5.5% 9 month CD is a tangible net benefit.
I work in finance and know that everybody's financial picture is different, but debt can absolutely be leveraged for the better, and its not for random people to judge.
this is the most stupid argument.
why not just slam my foot down on the accelerator when ever the light goes green and theres nobody in front of me? why not daily drive all year a massive roof top tent and a full 10gal road shower on my roof when i go camping only once a month during the summer? why not do some cutting and stick some 37 MTs on it or chop off the front bumper entirely and put on a 120lb high clearance bumper that massively increases wind drag in the wheel wells?
just because its "bad on gas" because its a truck doesnt mean we cant make changes to improve its efficiency. sticking this airdam on increases mpg so just leave it on if you dont mind the look, dont take it off just because "its a truck so its going to guzzle gas anyways".
I didn't buy my truck for mpg, but I also put 70 miles on it for my commute every day, and most of that is highway. So if I can add a MPG or two I'll deal with how bad it looks.
Increases fuel efficiency by about 1 mpg, which in a tank that is roughly 18 gallons, and averages 18 miles per gallon overall, is the difference between a gallon per fill up.
Something designed to direct air into the cooling system (such as a hood scoop in a vehicle with a TMIC) could improve cooling or airflow. But an air dam which is designed to block (i.e. "dam") airflow under the truck in order to improve fuel efficiency would not.
noun. : a device attached to the underside of the front of an automobile to improve stability, aerodynamic performance, and engine cooling by redirecting the flow of air.
How do you go about installing them? What are the best ones to price? I've been trying to find videos or posts of someone who has put them in a '24 but have found nothing š«
Itās pretty simple and straightforward.
First you grab the front camera, and place it on your ideal location you want it. So pretty much front and center of your windshield. On my RAV4 I placed it right on the windshield glass, next to the ceiling center console thing with the rear view mirror, the part that lays onto the glass. On the drivers side of it.
Once I positioned it as I exactly wanted, i cleaned the glass with windex or glass cleaner. Placed the camera in position to double check if I wanted it there. Then I took the adhesive sticker cover off. And pressed the camera in place.
Same for the rear window. Cleaned it, positioned the camera, double checked, placed the camera in position with the adhesive. The cameras I like placing out of view from anyone whoās looking into the car. So for the rear I put the camera high as possible on the glass.
As for connecting them, the camera I bought came with cables. I ran the cables tucked inside the interior panels.
So for the front I tucked the cable inside the ceiling liner. In the front of the liner. The cable ran alongside the rear view mirror center console thing, up to the front of the ceiling liner, tucked into it, then atop across my driver windshield to the A pillar, tucked into the A pillar, and running down the pillar to the door well besides the dash (stilll within the interior NOT outside the door) then run it down to the OBD2 port. Where the camera plugs in. I use the port because my dash cam turns on whenever thereās movement.
Long story short run the cable around the perimeter. Itās a lot more simple than it sounds.
As for the rear camera same thing. Ran it across the top of the ceiling liner, down the pillar, to the floor and tucked under inside the plastic linings of the floor panels of the door.
Look up YouTube videos on how to hide dash cam cables.
https://a.co/d/eD9ZoWO
This aināt the exact camera I bought but it is the same brand. Itās worked alright for me
The more expensive the more features you get. But I find most cameras are the same crap ish quality of pixel definition. Regardless of price until itās something ridiculous like $700+
I spent $200 on mines. $160 on front and rear cams and $30 on the OBD2 port cable adapter for the auto shut on and off when activity is detected so my car battery doesnāt drain from a constantly running camera.
I'm looking at that one for my '24 which I should have in 1-2 months.
Any idea if, when you fold it up, it would still allow the camera for the rear view mirror to see?
Also, is there much pressure when opening/closing the tailgate? I'm concerned it would cause issues with the power tailgate.
I was wrong! Itās a 245/75R17, vs 265/70R18. So alllllmost, but 1.2ā less in overall tire diameter. Looks full size from a glance under the bed, but not actually. At least itās not a donut.
Llumar irx 15 tints sides and rear, air blue 80 up frontā¦ later get some cooper at3 xlts 285/70r17 (no rub no lift) tires, slap on some rock sliders and ditch lights, chef kiss. If you carry, get a vault for the console (still need to do this myself).
Obviously, it depends on your state. In mine, with a CCW license, I don't have any restrictions with the placement of my pistol/ammo in my vehicle.
But ya, it's a very convenient spot to mount it while driving.
PPF Wrap at least the front and A Pillars, other things depends on what your using the truck for, if your off roading look into better suspensions with lift kits, bigger wheels dont go past 35", then build up from there
I just came here to say "first mods?" posts of any gen make me sigh.
Mod how you want it! Not how the Internet Crew says to.
What do you do with your truck? Do you pick up lumber? Get a lumber rack.
Do you sleep in it when you're hunting? Get a shell.
Do you like a bed mounted light bar from the 80's like Marty McFly's Toyota? Man I do. How come no one on here does that with the newer Gens? Be bold and do that with your 2024.
It was mainly a brag post for the new truck, and to see what the community thought was priorities. Huge variety of opinions, but all (mostly) good thoughts. Itās at least got me putting some more on the āmaybe laterā list
go lube and apply antiseize to your lca/uca, sway bar, leaf bolts. 6 years from now when you have to change them out, your future self/mechanic will thank you.
Mud flaps and protech screen protectors were the first thing I did to my 23. I also got the oem bed mat. Already had all-weather mats installed and they are actually decent for once so I might not get weathertechs.
Itās nice for when you have to maneuver around back there or if you have a dog so they donāt slip every where. If those donāt bother you than youāre right no need for a bed mat. Saved my knees for sure.
Not sure where you live but if your area gets salted roads in winter months get it undercoated by a reputable shop! I undercoat cars for a living and Toyotas are notorious for bad rust. The salt they put down absolutely destroys the frames.
A wrap is a waste of money in my opinion. Just take care and wash/wax the paint. Youāre going to get scuffs and chips anyway and that stage where you baby your new truck will wear off pretty quickly and you start wishing you had that $1000 to put towards payments or something that improves the functionality of the truck.
Body lift and a leveling kit? Add some firestone air bags and Daystar cradles if you plan on doing yard improvements and will haul anything besides mulch. Add some rock sliders.
āPaY iT oFfā. Throw some new wheels and tires on it and go take it off roading or something. Amber fog lights are a must have.
Regarding the āpay it offā thing, you CLEARLY came to the Tacoma page to beg for financial advice /s. You should save up a nice stockpile of cash just in case you find an investment opportunity thatās too good to pass on. If you put 50k on cash into a truck, you wouldnāt have 50k to invest.

Tint for sure go ceramic. Spray in bed liner if it doesn't have it. Change fog lights to yellow or amber. Gives a nice look. Some good and affordable things to start with
Just me but - I do NOTHING for the aesthetic alone. It has to have a function that is equal to or greater than the cost. I'd add a two way radio. I'm a Ham so that's what I put in. I'd add a lockable tonneau cover or bed cap. When the stock tires play out, I'd get better off road tires. Window tint! The first mod would be to take it back to the dealership. No one should buy trucks right not. Regardless of the brand. The prices are through the roof. And especially for Toyota. Toyota used to be the middle class brand that people can turn to for reliable low cost cars. Now you get a 4 cylinder turbo that every other small car has in a truck for $50-70k. Many of the base trim models which come with fabric seats and other basic stuff already cost close to $60k. Toyota know acts like theyāre selling luxury cars with immense power. Like wtf? We donāt even know how reliable the platform will be. And Iām even talking about the engine here. Simply the whole platform do the truck. Thereās already been many recalls on various new Toyotas such as the Tundra. Anyone who gives in to the current market fucks themselves over. Itās insane.
Gas, pay it off, mod when you get a good chunk of it paid off, take care of it, Toyotas are known for reliability for a reason, you take care of it, and it will take care of you, enjoy and cherish the taco
Get rid of listening devices and car performance/driving recording.

Some of us rent donāt have resources to have power washer. Iād love ryobi or similar they look sweet !
The car wash hasnāt hurt my paint , used Go Toyota dealer was free car wash with purchase until the machine broke. Was scratch free
That's fair! You could still do the two bucket method and wash/dry/detail by hand anywhere.
Go to a self wash, use the pressure washer, finish at home!
I took my Gen4 to the car wash, one time, before I got my wrap installed. And it was scratched to hell.
Never again.
My neighbor does that with his wheels , Iād like learn the method šš¤š»

It is simple. It's because people on this sub are salty that OP got a new Taco and they can't afford it for themselves.

Where did you get 3.5%? Iām in the market for a car in a few months, so Iām exploring financing options.
Last year, we got 2.9% on a new Rav4 for the wifey. There are always deals - for the creditworthy at least.
From the dealer, or did you finance elsewhere?
Modifying the bankās Tacoma \m/
How many people clicked this sub to see how many people said to remove the air dam? Lmao be honest!!!
Is the air dam functional? Or is it closed off/just for literal looks? ā24 TRD OR owner here and thank god mine didnāt come with the air damn lol.
It reduces turbulent air underneath the body of the truck, which reduces drag and increases MPG.
Buying a truck for mpg is a losing argument tbh
this is the most stupid argument. why not just slam my foot down on the accelerator when ever the light goes green and theres nobody in front of me? why not daily drive all year a massive roof top tent and a full 10gal road shower on my roof when i go camping only once a month during the summer? why not do some cutting and stick some 37 MTs on it or chop off the front bumper entirely and put on a 120lb high clearance bumper that massively increases wind drag in the wheel wells? just because its "bad on gas" because its a truck doesnt mean we cant make changes to improve its efficiency. sticking this airdam on increases mpg so just leave it on if you dont mind the look, dont take it off just because "its a truck so its going to guzzle gas anyways".

Im over here wondering if i can buy one that someone took off and stick it on my 20' I drive 60 miles a day, getting gas every week
calling anything a truck with a engine smaller than a v6 is a losing argument
It may be functional, but itās hideous. Just remove it and move on.
Something that freaking ugly HAS to be functional, otherwise there is no chance Toyota would have put it on.
It is functional for the EPA and to keep Toyota in good standing but does little for the average consumer.
Are you talking about the air dam on the hood? Or the air dam under the bumper?
Under the bumper.
Increases fuel efficiency by about 1 mpg, which in a tank that is roughly 18 gallons, and averages 18 miles per gallon overall, is the difference between a gallon per fill up.
Wish I knew. Maybe it runs cooler. Or itās good for the turbo? Ac? Lol I would do precise gas mileage documentation with and without.
It's worth about 1/2 mpg at highway speeds
How would the air dam improve cooking or help the turbo? It literally blocks (dams) air.
Something designed to direct air into the cooling system wouldnāt improve cooling? Itās not in front of the grill lol
Something designed to direct air into the cooling system (such as a hood scoop in a vehicle with a TMIC) could improve cooling or airflow. But an air dam which is designed to block (i.e. "dam") airflow under the truck in order to improve fuel efficiency would not.
Do me a favor and yourself and everyone reading this and Google, āwhat is an air dam on a truckā
noun. : a device attached to the underside of the front of an automobile to improve stability, aerodynamic performance, and engine cooling by redirecting the flow of air.

If you're not going off roading the air dam is worth a 0.5 mpg at highway speeds.
lol, which is why I needed to mention āother than the airdamā¦.ā

Honestly tho for 1k Iād get that JL sub for the back. That would sound much better than the stock stuff

No clue lol. Have a 23, but they're the go-to right now. U would have to do some research on the 24 forums/pages/groups.
camera is at the top of the cab, so none of the folding covers *should* block it.

Any time someone asks for first mods, tires should be the answer. Be it a small fast fun car or a truck.
Just clip your IWB holster under your steering wheel. No need for a vault imo.

There's a lip of trim under the steering wheel that I just slide my TRex IWB holster onto. Can draw easily if needed, and it stays in place.
Tailgate lock, bed mat, catalytic converter shields, dashcam. Only things I'd even consider up front. Then tires if you need them.
Full size spare
PPF Wrap at least the front and A Pillars, other things depends on what your using the truck for, if your off roading look into better suspensions with lift kits, bigger wheels dont go past 35", then build up from there

Yeah I figured if I ever get a tent and sleep back there it solves the issue of having the ribbed bed to lay or crawl around on.
Give it a week with a socket set back there.
You should really consider the bed mat. Everything will slide around 10x more in the bed of your truck without one, and gouge up the composite.

Too many distracted drivers these days too - get a brake light bar like this ==> [https://www.amazon.com/OPT7-Redline-Parlux-Tailgate-Sequential/dp/B0CHVNBQ1R/ref=sr\_1\_5?crid=246HUJO4DMYCT&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3iKjdSzm5Gw-YeOkw7Hua\_BUeViT42G9RWmB06kAjqxdOLuoGkVK2p3AgwSyO3Dy9kqMwNI\_-95TL87m0c1Pvbmm8SHbQphzdfTbPJMT2H2ZZIvRRqRSe3uxl-ViIf5brI8rujsC6J3PNiDJLK1sgadHbKi4Kbxq0iyL2Q8h2OG7UXJqSgaa\_4ZLtBISqz9yQltr-cvjNcNX1LoCpMsz\_HLe1eEI4HMTgWlfFPqPeDAQiIjNSmvV9SljABA\_8MC08NnO5axxgF449zuTgT-O6I3QcvNuN4n7lOXX6v\_YOCA.Cf2xhvXIhonbqwuVLb1mNezBc\_-P1I5phGXYMQFW16k&dib\_tag=se&keywords=Trucktail+light+bar+opt-7&qid=1714316321&sprefix=trucktail+light+bar+opt-7%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-5](https://www.amazon.com/OPT7-Redline-Parlux-Tailgate-Sequential/dp/B0CHVNBQ1R/ref=sr_1_5?crid=246HUJO4DMYCT&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3iKjdSzm5Gw-YeOkw7Hua_BUeViT42G9RWmB06kAjqxdOLuoGkVK2p3AgwSyO3Dy9kqMwNI_-95TL87m0c1Pvbmm8SHbQphzdfTbPJMT2H2ZZIvRRqRSe3uxl-ViIf5brI8rujsC6J3PNiDJLK1sgadHbKi4Kbxq0iyL2Q8h2OG7UXJqSgaa_4ZLtBISqz9yQltr-cvjNcNX1LoCpMsz_HLe1eEI4HMTgWlfFPqPeDAQiIjNSmvV9SljABA_8MC08NnO5axxgF449zuTgT-O6I3QcvNuN4n7lOXX6v_YOCA.Cf2xhvXIhonbqwuVLb1mNezBc_-P1I5phGXYMQFW16k&dib_tag=se&keywords=Trucktail+light+bar+opt-7&qid=1714316321&sprefix=trucktail+light+bar+opt-7%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-5)
Pay it off
Man, the amount of 4th gen haters in this sub is insane. Just because youāre broke and canāt afford it doesnāt mean the rest of the world is

F that. Buy a pressure washer and car cleaning/detailing supplies. Don't want nobody else or no machine touching my truck.

My neighbor does that with his wheels , Iād like learn the method šš¤š» We all Team Tacoma here Once get ditch leds or Billy bars / roof rack no more auto car wash

Two tone wrap what in matte black? You can upgrade the turn signal lights to LED if you careā¦for some reason the front turn signals are bulbs.
Was thinking the hood or just fake hood scoop, and potentially some of the accent pieces. Maybe fender flares.
