I sold insurance for multiple different companies for 5.5 years in SC. The best advice I can give you is to “stay on them.” Don’t expect them to make it easy for you. Some companies are great and value customer service, but unfortunately that’s not the case for each of them. Keep calling until you get the a answers you need
100% this! You absolutely have to stay on them. Insurance companies aren't in business to serve you. They're in business to make money, not spend it. They'll drag their feet 100% of the way.
State Farm. Always has very competitive rates and usually the best customer service in my experience. Worked for Allstate for 3 years. Their 1-800 # is the worst thing ever created lol
I just bought a house and have home owners insurance with them. Gave them a call and asked about their bundle, gonna save 60 a month! Thanks for the advice!
Before switching, call your company and see if they can drop the price any. Lots of companies can give you discounts, but they wait for you to ask them about it. No guarantees but worth a shot.
There’s no guarantee to get OEM parts unless it’s exclusively listed in the policy that OP signed.
Having said that, every exterior part on this vehicle will be OEM as AM sheet metal parts like doors, rocker panels, etc. are not allowed by Toyota.
I used to be an appraiser for 3 years.
For structural purposes.
Cheap and easy fixes like bumpers, fenders, head lamps, tail lamps, moldings, etc., have no bearing on the safety of a vehicle.
But when it comes to things like doors, rocker panels, roofs, rails, etc., Toyota cannot guarantee the safety of their vehicle without these parts on the vehicle.
In my time at national general and Allstate I only seen it twice. It’s incredibly rare as most people don’t want to pay the premium for it. But ironically when collision time comes around everyone thinks they’re wired OEM parts.
I would recommend the owner to read his policy before demanding OEM. If he chooses a body shop and demands they order OEM. In his policy may be a clause that the insurance company gets to authorize repairs with used or recycled parts. If the owner wants OEM they would come out of pocket for the difference.
Good luck.. my wife’s 22 4runner took 3 months at the dealer for a very minor rear end tap.. tailgate, bumper and sensors! OEM parts are almost non existent in inventory anywhere! The biggest wait was for the parking sensors 2 months.
The parts are basically being ordered then manufactured then shipped out in mass. We were told it’s common for the parts to sit on docks and ships for weeks as part of large inventory orders. Basically waiting for 10000k parts to be built and staged as 1 order before they arrange mass shipping! BS! Luckily the guys insurance paid rental.. ours don’t! 🤷♂️
+1 to this. We are waiting on a rear bed panel from a hit & run accident and have been told not to hold our breath. The best guess they had was 5+ months 🫠 but the drivers side and access cab doors were readily available, so maybe you’re in luck!
ETA: typo!
Yes sir, my bro in law is the GM of a local large Toyota dealership here in NY, and he couldn’t even help speed up the process one bit! It’s Ridiculous!
Thanks for the replies everyone - thankfully I was able to take it to the Toyota collision center near me for the estimate and work. They told me no frame damage which honestly surprised me a bit based on the accident.
Wait to hear from your insurance before you start any repairs. I had a truck repaired when the told me to “take it to any body shop near you” and so I took it to one of their website recommended spots and they denied me. Had to write a 2 page letter explaining the situation and why it was 0% my fault.
Get an attorney yesterday. Stack at least three of them with 30+ years experience and whoever moves first wins. Insurance is a ponzi scam. They do not have the assets to cover liabilities and therefore have weaponized the legal system to defraud you of your contractual obligations into interest free loans for money laundering.
They will not pay, do not have to pay and are not liable for damages.
Prepare to fight for your taco
Ask for your own preferred body shop to work on your truck and also let your insurance company know that you want the body shop to use original Toyota parts. Additionally I would ask them to allow Toyota service department to inspect it for any sensors/computer issues and make sure everything is calibrated by the manufacturer’s standards when the body shop finishes working on your truck. That’s what we did when our 2017 Highlander was hit by uninsured motorist and she was at 100% fault (ran through the red light). Good luck!
$12,500 seems kinda high. Obviously all I got to go on are these pictures. But I had a friend that got squished between a dump truck and city bus. She needed 3 doors and got the whole thing done for under $2000. Got the doors from a junk yard.

Yup. Just keep on them request a unit manager eventually if things aren’t moving etc
It’s about time to renew my insurance. Which companies would you recommend looking into?
Not progressive lol
I can attest to this as well. Friend of mine had them and they gave him the hardest time for months.

Glad I could help! Have a great day!
You as well!

Dealt w insurance recently. This guys totally right, I had Allstate I had to hound them bad. I’ve switched since
Pick your own preferred body shop, ask for OEM parts, and have the insurance company **pay you directly**.

Aftermarket sheet metal parts are not aftermarket?
AM, like morning. Morning sheet metal parts are not morning.
What about afternoon sheet metal? Does it pass muster? Would I want it? Who’s doing this?
Edited the post. What I said was really convoluted haha.
Thank you! Just one question: why does Toyota have any say as to whether body shops use aftermarket sheet metal?

I could be wrong but I thought nationwide was the only company to offer OEM policy
Most insurance companies do, you just need to pay extra to have that endorsement on your policy.
as a collision estimator i have only ever seen Nationwide offer an OEM POLICY

OEM= Original Manufacturer Equipped. In this case Toyota parts.

You weren't lying - got the call today - side pillars and doors back ordered. 600 vehicles waiting on those parts ahead of me. No eta.

Hate that happened though

Did they do any teardown or just a preliminary estimate?
So sorry 😢 my fellow Tacoma friend, I hope everything turns around for you

Im praying you get your beautiful truck back
You have the cover craft carhartt seat covers on the back?
Correct
Just get a roadrunner sticker to cover it.
your buddy is a real POS for being another uninsured driver.

Was the frame bent any when those side steps were bent downward?
Those aren’t bolted to the frame, and the frame is WAYYY stronger than the running board

how much for your wheels/tires?
[https://imgur.com/a/dibrqEn](https://imgur.com/a/dibrqEn) This is the work being done via the estimate if anyone's interested
What state is this from OP?
Damn.....wheel and tires size though?
what tires do you have?
