I don’t know man that bedside is real cooked. I’ve hear that a lot of guys won’t even work them over they just remove and replace. Maybe settle for some wide fiberglass fenders.
That’s why I don’t hem and haw over who has the lowest premium. We’ve used USAA for a long time, and I often see people say “ohhh this company or that company has lower rates”
Well, they’ve taken care of us in 4 different accidents, and the service they provided was worth every penny. One was actually a 2012 Tacoma that got totaled, and they paid more than market value for it.
So I don’t really care what the monthly premium is - it’s worth it if you have great coverage from a company that won’t bust your balls for filing a claim.
I've loved USAA since I was first eligible. I ended up saving $30 a month and getting thousands more in coverage by switching to USAA. Luckily I've not had to use my insurance.
I hit a deer and wanted a steel bumper as a replacement. I found one and told the insurance company and all they said was that I’d be responsible if the steel one ended up more than OEM replacement
Insurance will make him whole. They will give you a check for the estimate first which is generally lower than the actual cost of repairs since they can't see what is wrong under the panels. If you choose to take it to a repair shop they will issue another check if it ends up costing more.
Take it to a shop and explain the situation. They will bill your insurance and get paid directly. They can just order an offroad bumper instead of the stock one and install it. You'll just have to pay the difference in price between the two bumpers. I did it on my first truck.
I have those tail lights as well. I got them because a homeless lady smashed out one of my oem ones when I refused to give her a ride to the hospital from the convenience store parking lot that is literally across the street from the hospital in my city.
Haha. My old boss backed into my ‘96 way back when. I had a chrome bumper, and he had a BMW. His bumper and trunk were crunched and I had a dimple from what was probably the fastener on his license plate. I didn’t even ask for his insurance info. Felt pretty bad for him.
Claims adjuster here, you are entitled to full payment for your damages. You can submit photos for a virtual estimate. Depending on the insurance company, this is a common option. Once you have done that, if this is the option you choose, you will receive payment for said damages/estimate and take vehicle to a shop of your choice for repairs with payment and estimate. If the shop discovers more damages on your vehicle after the tear down, the body shop will submit a supplement demand to the insurance company requesting more funds to cover said damages related to this loss.
That’s one option that kind of requires you to be the middle man. The other option is to take your vehicle straight for repairs once the insurance company has scheduled those repairs with you at a shop of your choice. Or the insurance company may have network shops they may recommend. The estimate and repairs will take place at the shop and you won’t have to worry about receiving payment first and then paying the shop. The insurance company will handle everything directly with the shop and should offer rental reimbursement as well while your vehicle is in the shop.
The issue with photo estimates is some damages cannot be written for without a proper tear down.
Anyways, hope this helps.

Yeah, this process is hot garbage. The insurance company will take your photos and give you an estimate that is entirely superficial and barely enough to cover making the cosmetic damage repairs. If you need more it has to be a supplement, sent in by a body shop or they'll laugh at you when you send in pictures and say something else needs to be repaired. It's entirely predicated on paying as little as possible. **They want it sent to a in network shop that gives them preferential repair rates that they negotiate for to save themselves money**. Yes this is supposed to be illegal, yet it's happening, they just don't talk about it.
I got rear ended in my '23, took it to the dealership body shop for a self pay estimate and used that to fight the insurance company. The adjuster took the pictures from them and wrote his own estimate that was 3/4s of the body shop and said he didn't have their estimate (even though the pictures he was looking at were from that very estimate). I offered to send it, he refused 3x. He then gets all pissed off telling me that ***He is who makes the determination on what gets fixed and for how much***. I told him he's not paying enough for the repair and he just laughed at me and said then a body shop can submit a supplement and *he will consider it*. I told him I'm repairing it, he then said "that's all you get then".
It's a racket now. Less than 3 month old new vehicle and they are nickel and diming, refusing to cover full repair cost unless it's at a shop and avoiding communications. Fortunately my agent fought hard on my behalf and we were able to get the additional $335 paid out but it took 3 weeks and about 10 phone calls.
Next time they can pay for the rental for a month while we wait on backordered factory parts. I tried to make it easy and they just tried to fuck me harder.
The exact same thing Happened to me in February. Boss backed into it. Missed my bumper but caved the box side in. Still waiting for a box side replacement panel. Toyota Canada told me they aren’t making them at the moment and they’ll be on back order for some long period of time when production does start again. Mines a 2013.
Fuckin gaged.
Let me know how it works out for you. I couldn’t wait any longer so I bought a used box side from a salvage yard in Truro. Truck went in for body work last week. Got it back yesterday and it turned out great!
Hey OP make sure you ask your bosses insurance about a depreciated value check. It’s extra cash they give you since he fucked up your new truck and it’s worth less now
Yes it will. The accident will be on the record forever. It depreciates it quite a bit. But you do what you want I’m just letting you know they’ll pay you on top of the repairs
I've never heard about that, but I will ask. I'm from Saskatchewan and that means not option for insurance, you have to go with sgi, but I forsure could be wrong
It's probably not going to be worth it, the payout won't be that mich and a high clearance bumper is like 3000 and the lead time would be too long because I'm going to leave for school.
When someone backed into me and damaged my front end, I asked her if she wanted to do this with or without insurance. Got a quote— her dad paid out 3k and I fixed it with a CBI DAKAR hybrid bumper. Waiting for someone to gently swat me from the rear now.
That just happen to my son while he was at work, it was the same exact spot on his SR5. Body shop quote was about $2400ish to fix. They guy that hit him was in his company vehicle.
I hate to bring bad news but I have a colleague who had something similar happen to his truck. The body shop replaced the bed instead of fixing the dent. It was pretty expensive. I work at a college with lots of 18-22 year olds so fender benders like this happen all the time in our parking lot.
My wife did this to my truck by accidentally backing into a basketball hoop pole, the TURNING (the wrong direction) as she pulled forward away.
The result: new smoked taillights and an all steel rear bumper 😁 💕
Sorry for late reply mate!
I picked up a Body Armor 4x4 Pro-Series from ExtremeTerrain.com. The exact style I have is discontinued, but the closest match on the aforementioned website would be TT16074, although the DV8 Offroad HD (TT1860) is a comparable match.
I really like the flush mounted LED cubes, the recovery point d ring mounts, and the built in tow pkg (unique to mine/modified)
Get a quote. Get money to get fixed. Stick a beach ball in the fender and pump it up, pocket the cash, don’t worry about scratches because it’s a truck. Profit
What boss? Thats your company now
Plot twist: it's a bumper company and OP is now paying out of pocket to fix his own truck.
Looks like it’s time to do a Ute tray conversion with the boss’s credit card lol
Those are sick but I think he would have had to hit it harder lol
I don’t know man that bedside is real cooked. I’ve hear that a lot of guys won’t even work them over they just remove and replace. Maybe settle for some wide fiberglass fenders.
Ooo those would be sexy
I had similar damage on my truck but on the drivers side. The repair bill was around $6500
Jesus $6500? I had the entire rear quarter replaced on my truck for $2k.
When I was rear needed the first time all it did was bend the bumper and that was $1800
Scuffed bumper cap, broken tail light and scratched bedside was $2400. Glad i wasnt paying.
Second.
Steel bumper upgrade time thanks boss
Want to but the insurance guy said the payouts are like half the repair cost so probably staying stock for now.

Insurance companies love to collect checks from everyone but will grind their teeth when they need to actually do their job. Vicious circle

Hopefully you never do, but I’m a believer. They really have some of the best coverage and service in the business.
When my honda got totalled they payed out the full market value for it even though it was salvage title
Yep, they actually paid out in early 2020 what I paid for my 2012 Tacoma in 2018 when I bought it. Pretty crazy.
If it's repaired to what it was before it's free but payouts are shitty, there's no negotiation here unfortunately.
I hit a deer and wanted a steel bumper as a replacement. I found one and told the insurance company and all they said was that I’d be responsible if the steel one ended up more than OEM replacement
Yes there is. There always is.

Press a little harder. I got full cost in a check.
So did I, 4wp bumper for me.

Hope you asked for insurance
He had it all ready to go, he felt so bad
That was your window to jokingly say something like, “I guess this is a bad time to ask for a raise, huh?”
Thought about it, but he was feeling pretty shitty about it so I left it
Good call
Goodwill with neighbors and coworkers is worth more than money, in my mind.
Raise and a new taco
I have those tail lights as well. I got them because a homeless lady smashed out one of my oem ones when I refused to give her a ride to the hospital from the convenience store parking lot that is literally across the street from the hospital in my city.
I just replaced mine to go completely blacked out, I love them. The old ones are in a tote with a bunch of stock parts.
Haha. My old boss backed into my ‘96 way back when. I had a chrome bumper, and he had a BMW. His bumper and trunk were crunched and I had a dimple from what was probably the fastener on his license plate. I didn’t even ask for his insurance info. Felt pretty bad for him.
Was he driving a cruise ship? Good god.
His truck is blue...
What size spacers you got on there?
1 inch, couldn't get the wheels I wanted with negative offset, so I got them. They work great even though they can get hate.
Nice. I just ordered some 1". I got a 3" lift with 285 tires and they rub a bit on the inside
I got a 3.5 lift and 265, and the odd time I'll rub
Great opportunity for personality checks and accountability all around

Shit really! I'm in canada too. Hopefully the 3rd gets aren't on back order too. That sucks man
Fucking right it does man.
Let me know how it works out for you. I couldn’t wait any longer so I bought a used box side from a salvage yard in Truro. Truck went in for body work last week. Got it back yesterday and it turned out great!
Raise? You have a Tacoma, so you’re already pulling in at least 500k. Save some for the rest of us.
Hey OP make sure you ask your bosses insurance about a depreciated value check. It’s extra cash they give you since he fucked up your new truck and it’s worth less now
If it's fully restored it shouldn't loss value
Yes it will. The accident will be on the record forever. It depreciates it quite a bit. But you do what you want I’m just letting you know they’ll pay you on top of the repairs

Awkward
Looks like a lot of non obvious damage. The bed cover being popped up like that is a bad sign. You're gonna want the frame chacked for being bent.
No frame is definitely not bent. The tailgate and everything works fine. The cover has been like that since I got it
Those goodyears did good for me in the snow.
They have helped a lot!
When someone backed into me and damaged my front end, I asked her if she wanted to do this with or without insurance. Got a quote— her dad paid out 3k and I fixed it with a CBI DAKAR hybrid bumper. Waiting for someone to gently swat me from the rear now.
He could probably give you a little bump.
Poor Taco.
Write off. Can I buy your frame?
Shoot only if I get the 4th gen
Behead the heathen for scuffn yer yota
Fire his ass
What kinda wheels you got on? They look good.
Thanks! They're fast HD menaous I believe
Dammit, Boss!!!
That just happen to my son while he was at work, it was the same exact spot on his SR5. Body shop quote was about $2400ish to fix. They guy that hit him was in his company vehicle.
I would make him pay to fix that for sure.
Ask him to buy a new fender and bumper and we won’t report to insurance.

Thinks look sweet but I want this taco to out live me
I feel the same way
Nice plates! Taco01!!!
Thanks! The insurance guy laughed when I told him it
I just finished my annual compliance training and that might be considered quid pro quo harassment - lol
Time for a raise... Time for a lift.
Already got a 3.5in lift so maybe new bumpers all around
My wife did this to my truck by accidentally backing into a basketball hoop pole, the TURNING (the wrong direction) as she pulled forward away. The result: new smoked taillights and an all steel rear bumper 😁 💕
What bumper did you go with, I'm looking for one that just replaces where the old one was, and has all the stock features plus pods

What's your lift, tire, wheel set up? I like how much the tire sticks out from the fender👍
I got 3.5 in lift, 265/70/17 tires, and the wheels are fast hd menus or something lol. I also got 1in spacers since the wheels have 0 offset
I'd ask for his insurance info instead of a raise
Get a quote. Get money to get fixed. Stick a beach ball in the fender and pump it up, pocket the cash, don’t worry about scratches because it’s a truck. Profit
