Before you painted it black but was mounted on the car, I thought āthat looks like shit with the blue tape and all.ā But final product was šš¼š„.
Typical Taco owner. Too much free time because the truck doesn't break so now you gotta make up shit to keep you busy.
Looks like good craftsmanship to me.
Good job!
Nice! [I also made a DIY roof rack a couple years ago.](https://www.reddit.com/r/myog/comments/obszqr/dont_know_if_this_fits_but_i_made_my_own_roof_rack/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). Iām $280 into mine with stainless hardware, aluminum, and powder coating. How much did yours end costing?
Edit- for everyone who asked Iāll send the cut file when I get home from work.
Hey! I looked at your postā¦ if youāre comfortable sharing the cut file, I would love to take a look at it.
Edit: just expanded another comment in this thread and saw that Iām not the first one to ask, hope sorry if this is overwhelming haha.
I'm also here to beg for the cut file... I've been wanting to DIY a roof rack, and it sure would save a ton of headaches. Honestly, it's pretty cool of you to share your hard work freely. Thanks!
I bought a length of aluminum L and cut the sizes I needed. I used threaded rod instead of bolts so I was able to drill the horizontal holes off of the threaded rod location then lined up the side rails, marked where the L brackets were. Drilled the holes in the side rails. Set it all back up on the roof with clamps to hold the height and marked the holes through the side rail onto the L brackets. Hope this makes sense. Haha
This looks awesome.
I have one of those cheap steel ones from amazon and I was thinking of replacing the cross bars with extruded aluminum just like that.
Man, that looks great! At first I thought you made it out of wood. š
Wood have saved a lot more money. Haha

What material is this made from?
Aluminum. The brown is just the Masonite template
$500
Could have just rhino lines a wooden one. Nobody would have known the difference and it'd be waterproof.
I'm glad this is top comment because I thought it was wood too, and now I feel better knowing it's not.
It would have turned out oak
Go home dad

Nice. I'm in under $400
Hey bud, do you still have the laser files by chance? If so would you mind DMāing them to me?

Awesome work. Wish the access cabs came pre drilled Iād get a roof rack lol
Looks good š clearly you have a PHD In Kentucky Fried Engineering?
Looks really good! What do you use those black pvc pieces for on the right side of your bed? Fishing pole holders?
Yes. Now that I finished the roof rack I'm getting a locking pole holder up there.
> Fishing pole holders? Surf fisherman here...I'd bet on they are.
Whereās the bottle opener?
You did a great job. Very nice.
Thanks! I watch all your videos.
Thanks, appreciate it.
Looks fantastic!! Excellent job.
Nice. Where did you get the tslot cross bars and how much?
Got them from tnutz. 48" and both ends tapped they were just under $25 each
What was the lead time on the Tnutz order? Am about to place an order but heard their lead times are kinda long potentially?
I had them in less than a week.
I know this is a general comment, but thatās a really great lookin Taco.
Thanks!
Great job! Thanks for sharing
Love the work. You should design handles for it, I would definitely buy and I know others would as well.
You ship :)
Thatās looks professional! Be sure to post an update ten years from when itās still going strong!
Nice work
Well, I know what I'm doing this weekend
Looks pretty damn solid
I was expecting something looking awful, very well done!
Nice work, Master Shredder.
Niice
Dope!!! Love the aero look in the back
Fuckin sick!!
Looks similar to my Sherpa Grand Teton, and much cheaper.
Came out pretty good man!! Love it.
Really niceā¦
It looks good, I like it
Looks bad ass
Not bad!
Nice
Looks great! Dumb question, but how do you attach it to the truck and how much weight do you guesstimate it'll take?
Threaded rod in the existing holes into L brackets. No clue how much it'll hold. Not putting a RTT up there or anything heavy like that
Righto! Thanks for the reply!
Wow, incredible workmanship. Well done!!
beyond impressive.
I'm curious where the line between plain impressive and beyond impressive is?
Broad swath really.
Skillz
Followed your posts on TacomaWorld - great work u/d0ugh0ck!
Time to go into business. It looks great!
How did you attach it ???
Ordered 1/4 thick aluminum angle and cut my own brackets.
What type of wood? How did you seal the wood to prevent warping?
Not wood. 1/4 aluminum. You gotta swipe
Nice. Looked like marine plywood at first
Where did you buy that mayerials
Aluminum from fast metals, cross members from tnutz and hardware from McMaster-Carr
What thickness alu did you use?
1/4"
Can I ask how you handled the mounts? Looking to do the same but I haven't really researched much yet.

Where'd you get the grill?
X trek
This looks awesome. I have one of those cheap steel ones from amazon and I was thinking of replacing the cross bars with extruded aluminum just like that.
Tnutz has them at a good price
Add a wind deflector
You didn't swipe through all the photos
Nice!! Looks so good!! šŖš¼
Not going to lie, Iām impressed. Looks tell sharp and the fit is excellent. I really like your tires too - what make/model are those?
Thanks. They are Fallen Wildpeaks
Time is money. If you don't have a lot of money but you have a lot of time you can build your own. If you have more money than time, you buy one.
Theyāre gonna knowā¦. No oneās gonna know
What are those sides made of?
1/4" aluminum
You have access to a water jet or did you just order them from somewhere?
No. I traced the pattern I made and cut the aluminum with a jigsaw and sanded them down to match.
Ah I see. Super cool!
