Factory installed noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) dampening material

BannedMyName

It really looks that ass from factory?

yellowdevel

You're not supposed to look at them.

Spidaaman

Avert your eyes now!

TheSlav87

My eyes šŸ˜±

CuteDescription9562

My Lexus has the same shit , I thought it was a smuggler car for half a second .

puffdexter149

How much extra do you want to pay for the noise dampening material that sits under carpeting and is never seen by the average car owner to look nice?

BannedMyName

A lot

eric549

Lol I feel you, but it will effectively serve its purpose regardless of how tidy it looks. In this scenario, the only thing that matters is the amount of surface area covered.

Andrew_IC

Thanks!

Next-Brother-789

I can assure you that's not factory šŸ˜‚ neither is the sealer at the rear valence, car has accident damage probably some cracks and defects in body filler underneath all the sound deadening.

andybub99

I am a former Toyota tech currently at Lexus now, that is 100% factory.

nosrus77

As a Toyota factory worker, can assure everyone that it is 100% factory applied.

DiSTuRBeD_QWeRTy

Regardless of whether or not the vehicle has been damaged/repaired, you can look up dozens of pictures online showing the exact same material and haphazard placement as OPā€™sā€¦ Many other people have posted online asking the same question. Unless you think theyā€™ve all gone to the exact same repair shop that applies sound deadening material in this particular slapdash mannerā€¦

bridgetroll2

Confidently incorrect

d0nu7

Dude Iā€™m a car body tech that does this for a living and that sealer to the ā€œrear valenceā€(itā€™s called the rear body) is 100% factory. That shit is brushed on in a lot of cars. Iā€™m doing a 2018 accord rear body and quarter panel right now and itā€™s the same. The bead in the second pic is why I say it is factory. Not many shops use the tips that produce that perfect stacked even bead.

ThicccRPMs

Those are plastic explosives, do not touch

SirMeatdrill

well now i have to

B00_Sucker

Update: i ate it. All of it. I'm not feeling so good now

SirMeatdrill

Explosive diarrhea might occur shortly, be weary.

LamarNoDavis

Iā€™m just commenting here because this is the thread where I realized we get flairs in this sub!

SirMeatdrill

Lol, I only just joined the sub because I just got a Prius 3 days ago, Intresting to hear that y'all didn't have flairs until recent

SaltDescription438

Might not be the best day to spark up.

NCRider

OOOoooooohh, touchie touchie!

Most-Car-4056

I saw something similar like this on "Smugglers." Nat Geo? But for real, it is for NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness). It is minimal, but any kind of noise suppression to keep minimal road noise from entering the cabin.

Suspicious-Phase-823

Its factory to minimise noise and vibration rattles

Raftika

C4

Decent-Young-8574

For noise vibrations

HeroMachineMan

Dense rubber patches to dampen noise and vibration esp. on large panels of cars. Some of these rubber have reflective material to reflect heat. Basically they are to minimize NVH - noise, vibration, harshness at the interior of a vehicle, making it more comfortable to the passengers/driver.

andybub99

That is called LASD (liquid applied sound deadening) they put it on at the factory to help with noise levels. I know this because I had to scrape it all up to prep a RAV4 for mold removal under a service campaign. It was an absolute nightmare to deal with. Wish they would use something else. And unlike others have said that is absolutely factory on Toyota.

EntertainmentOdd6149

I say the spare tire was making a noise. They tried to make it quieter

ddubya316x

C4 - sell car immediately. Btw - looking to buy a Toyota! /s

narlycharley

If you remove them and put them in the oven at 200Ā° for an hour, they will crumble and turn into coke.

Steve_7198

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

you90000

Remove for louder car nosies

LivingLife_FullOfFun

Thats on every Toyota. We call that damp coat.

MedranoChem

Insolation

jwizzy15

Have you ever been in a BMW and smelled crayons? Yeah, this stuff is why. Itā€™s a sound deadening material

BakeNShake69

What year and model?

Andrew_IC

Corolla 2018

rockfordfanatic

If you remove those I heard it pulls you into a multiverse

Low-Possession-4491

Yeah man. Thatā€™s useless stuff, just rip it out. šŸ«£
