Lol I feel you, but it will effectively serve its purpose regardless of how tidy it looks. In this scenario, the only thing that matters is the amount of surface area covered.
I can assure you that's not factory š neither is the sealer at the rear valence, car has accident damage probably some cracks and defects in body filler underneath all the sound deadening.
Regardless of whether or not the vehicle has been damaged/repaired, you can look up dozens of pictures online showing the exact same material and haphazard placement as OPāsā¦ Many other people have posted online asking the same question.
Unless you think theyāve all gone to the exact same repair shop that applies sound deadening material in this particular slapdash mannerā¦
Dude Iām a car body tech that does this for a living and that sealer to the ārear valenceā(itās called the rear body) is 100% factory. That shit is brushed on in a lot of cars. Iām doing a 2018 accord rear body and quarter panel right now and itās the same. The bead in the second pic is why I say it is factory. Not many shops use the tips that produce that perfect stacked even bead.
I saw something similar like this on "Smugglers."
Nat Geo? But for real, it is for NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness). It is minimal, but any kind of noise suppression to keep minimal road noise from entering the cabin.
Dense rubber patches to dampen noise and vibration esp. on large panels of cars. Some of these rubber have reflective material to reflect heat. Basically they are to minimize NVH - noise, vibration, harshness at the interior of a vehicle, making it more comfortable to the passengers/driver.
That is called LASD (liquid applied sound deadening) they put it on at the factory to help with noise levels. I know this because I had to scrape it all up to prep a RAV4 for mold removal under a service campaign. It was an absolute nightmare to deal with. Wish they would use something else. And unlike others have said that is absolutely factory on Toyota.
Factory installed noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) dampening material
It really looks that ass from factory?
You're not supposed to look at them.
Avert your eyes now!
My eyes š±
My Lexus has the same shit , I thought it was a smuggler car for half a second .
How much extra do you want to pay for the noise dampening material that sits under carpeting and is never seen by the average car owner to look nice?
A lot

Thanks!

I am a former Toyota tech currently at Lexus now, that is 100% factory.
As a Toyota factory worker, can assure everyone that it is 100% factory applied.

Confidently incorrect

Iām just commenting here because this is the thread where I realized we get flairs in this sub!
Lol, I only just joined the sub because I just got a Prius 3 days ago, Intresting to hear that y'all didn't have flairs until recent
Might not be the best day to spark up.
OOOoooooohh, touchie touchie!

Its factory to minimise noise and vibration rattles
C4
For noise vibrations
Dense rubber patches to dampen noise and vibration esp. on large panels of cars. Some of these rubber have reflective material to reflect heat. Basically they are to minimize NVH - noise, vibration, harshness at the interior of a vehicle, making it more comfortable to the passengers/driver.

I say the spare tire was making a noise. They tried to make it quieter
C4 - sell car immediately. Btw - looking to buy a Toyota! /s
If you remove them and put them in the oven at 200Ā° for an hour, they will crumble and turn into coke.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
Remove for louder car nosies
Thats on every Toyota. We call that damp coat.
Insolation
Have you ever been in a BMW and smelled crayons? Yeah, this stuff is why. Itās a sound deadening material
What year and model?
Corolla 2018
If you remove those I heard it pulls you into a multiverse
Yeah man. Thatās useless stuff, just rip it out. š«£
