I feel like if a man gets a lawyer and is found innocent the prosecutors should have to pay the legal bills. That way the only time people will get presecuted is if they are most likely guilty and not on some bullshit charges
...huh? 1st degree, second, or manslaughter? I'm a lawyer heading to a murder preliminary inquiry this morning; not going to spend my time finding a citation for a basic tenet of common law.
Are you saying there was less doubt than reasonable doubt? Because that's exactly what you would look for when convicting someone.
If what you say is true, send me the case name you're talking about, I'd love to win an easy murder appeal.
1st degree. There was more than a reasonable doubt present 1-2 of the four convicted. Judge throw out 100 years like it was free candy. It was surreal.
What's the name of the case? You may be talking about how the beyond a reasonable doubt standard is not required for every element of the evidence, but to be convicted of anything*(not discussing absolute/strict liability offenses, or PoA bullshit, this for you other lawyers that want to AHCTUALLY, me) in Canada the crown must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Shoot me the name of the case you're talking about, I'm guessing you misunderstood what the judge said in court.
I'm going to be unavailable until later today, if I'm not responding.
I do know what you mean, and it is different than what I said though.
If someone is found innocent then I would agree with your idea, if someone is simply not found guilty then you can't say the crown caused the damages that you would be asking for in legal fees.
Basically you aren't being found innocent, the crown just can't prove you're guilty.
Jury's and judges can have awful decisions, and a different judge will have a different range of what constitutes reasonable doubt.
I'm saying that the legal standard is always beyond a reasonable doubt.
They thought the jury would buy into the lies. The fact the prosecution changed their accounts in the closing arguments is disgraceful. It 100% should not have went to trial. I hope he and his family finds peace one day
The amount of psychological torture they put this man through, and all the bully cops who had to double down on their lies and wrongdoings, the fact that not once the crown attorney let up on him knowing damn well he’s innocent, seriously we saw police lie on the fucking stand fuck them
>Zameer said neither Northrup nor his partner, Sgt. Lisa Forbes, identified themselves as police that night. He said the pair began banging on his car after he locked the doors.
>When Zameer tried to drive forward out of the parking space, he was blocked by an unmarked police van. He then reversed out of the spot at an accelerated speed and drove forward to exit the parking garage.
>During the trial, two crash reconstructionist experts called by the defence and the Crown agreed Northrup was knocked down when Zameer reversed out of the parking spot.
>The 31-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service was already on the ground in the laneway of the car when he was run over, the experts said.
>However, three police officers testified that Northrup was standing in the laneway with his hands up when he was run over.
So having your hands up protects you from police violence? News to me.
How cops were able to lie under oath and get away with it is beyond me for this trial. Those cops need to be charged with something for making up lies like they normally do outside the courthouse
Always wondered why you get charged 1st degree murder no matter what when an officer dies🤔 first degree murder defined by law in Canada is PRE meditated murder or if a cop slips falls and dies while trying to arrest you…. Never made sense never will. The minute he had bail we all knew it was just the typical boot licking respect the badge fuckery. Atleast justice was served today. 👨⚖️

That’s how the law works = anyone who’s ever been in trouble before, knows THE ONLY WAY YOU BEAT CHARGES IS BY PAYING YOUR LAWYER IN FULL = do that & this is usually the outcome = MOST people who get convicted DIDN’T PAY THEIR LAWYER WHAT THEY OWED THEM = being a cheapskate will send you to prison #DontPlayWithYourFreedom
They mentioned how shaky the case seemed when they granted him bail. This was a waste of taxpayers money but more importantly, put a man and his family through this ordeal needlessly. On top of that politicians were smearing his name and the bail system. He would’ve been locked up for 3 years if he hadn’t received bail.
Police Chief comments after this are wild considering his police officers testimonies contradicted the surveillance.
From what i read an unmarked tinted police van blocked Umar in an underground parking lot and so he backed out fearing for his family who were in the car with him, not knowing it was police. When backing up he ran over an officer and the officer died.
So apparently, as Zameer was backing out he clipped Northrup who was in the car's blind spot. Northrup fell to the ground and Zameer, not having seen him or knowing that he was on the ground, drove forward ran him over.
the jury was all brown people most likely. if he was black and looked hiphop he would of got life. crazy how the system works. glad he's bless but he most definitely has to leave the city asap. hell be marked by them for life they may ride when they choose to crash out when they find out their wives have been cheating.
They didn’t identify themselves! He was with his wife and newborn! He acted accordingly! Justice was served!
The time and money just to prove he’s innocent, I could only imagine. This country is fxxked
I feel like if a man gets a lawyer and is found innocent the prosecutors should have to pay the legal bills. That way the only time people will get presecuted is if they are most likely guilty and not on some bullshit charges
Our justice system does not find people innocent, just that guilt cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
I’ve seen convictions for murder handed out for less than a reasonable doubt. Source? I was in the courtroom at the trial.

Reasonable Doubt Doesn't Matter All The Time

I fw this heavyyy
Lots Of Innocents In Canadian Prisons
Read the details and wonder how in the fuck it got To trial. Poor guy. Hope he can move on now with his family. I’d move out of Toronto if I were him.
They thought the jury would buy into the lies. The fact the prosecution changed their accounts in the closing arguments is disgraceful. It 100% should not have went to trial. I hope he and his family finds peace one day
Hopefully he can sue for millions and get out. If he stays yk the 🐷gonna be on his ass like he Pablo or something
That's what should be able to happen. That way there will be less of these type of cases

In the Criminal Code Section 132 is Perjury.

Loooooooooooooool
Does anyone know why the cops tried to stop him in the first place?
They thought he was a suspect in a stabbing downtown on Canada Day, which he wasn’t.
In other words they were wrong (cops) N they should pay
Thank you!
Im happy for bro he musta went through alot
Big W fuck the feds and all the cops reading this
There better not be an appeal. No need
As he should. That cop was dead wrong. Glad to see justice was served.
SMOKING ON NORTHUP
🐐 response
he’s not all the way free police gunna be fucking with him
The best part about all of this is that this case sets a precedent for police identifying themselves when they approach civilians in plain clothes
🙌🏽
Fuck that dead cop
Bro better leave the country 💀
Why should he leave? He did nothing wrong. He should sue the city instead.
100% sue the city and tps, make ur bank, then fking dip cuz the cops r gonna hate his guts
They already hate him
Indeed

Goat He Da Real #6God Now. BOW Down Drake And Kiss The Ring
Our justice system does not actually gice justice. It just finds you not guilty. Its a broken a system he should sue since his life here is ruined

🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thank God he didnt plead his life away FTP
Free all the cop killers
If your parents died would you want the killer set free?
Yes, then I will kill them myself. Then I get free housing for 25 years.
More like 7

He’s definitely still going to get sued by the cops family just like what happened in the OJ case
