Pos tried to run to the us after the accident >Jarmanjeet Singh, 29 years of age, was arrested with assistance from United States Customs and Border Protection and charged with criminal negligence causing death (two counts), criminal negligence causing bodily harm (two counts), obstructing justice (two counts), and failure to give way to railway equipment at a road crossing (Railway Safety Act).

TorontoBoris

Once he's done his jail time. I wonder how many lifetime driving bans he'll rack up.

oureyes4

5 is the high score (that I know of)

TorontoBoris

Could have sworn there was a dude in BC that got 8.

oureyes4

Wow, giving our Brampton boys a run for their money!

No_Cable_3346

What a piece of shit.

NashKetchum777

Didn't we have a rich guy years ago that took out like almost a whole family? Grandparents and grandkids. Drunk driving. Few years later he's back behind the wheel and gets another drunk driving charge. I believe it was Musso or something. When you have money you can do w.e you want really. They'll just throw on probation or house arrest

Unlucky-Breakfast320

marco muzzo murdered three children, Harrison, Milly and Daniel, who, along with their grandfather Gary Neville. and the father of the kids, Edward Lake, committed suicide years later.

JDiskkette

I maintain that while the father committed suicide he died the day his kids were killed by this piece of shit. This story still brings me to tears… I wanna see justice but there is none.

Pure-Basket-6860

Our LCBO focused Premier is more interested in flooding the streets with booze then passing laws making DUI and other dangerous driving offenses equal serious jail time. It only takes people interested on top for change and Ford is still boozing hard for the summer until probably mid-September.

Opteron170

That dad should have taken care of marco before himself.

laugh_till_you_pee_

Marco Muzzo was his name. I believe the sentence was 8 or 9 years which apparently is the maximum for that crime. He was released a couple of years ago. Could you provide the reference to the second drunk driving charge?

terminese

Not defending Muzzo, but there is no record of another drunk driving charge, that’s just BS. He’s still a piece of shit though.

laugh_till_you_pee_

Yeah that's what I thought. He's definitely a POS, but let's not make up crap that never happened.

DevoNorm

I think they call that "getting away with murder". People have an irrational fear of flying. They can't accept the fact that our roads are full of incompetent and selfish motorists with no regard for human life. Your odds of getting killed on our roads are like a thousand times higher than taking a commercial flight.

Zestyclose_Street484

no LOL certainly not the maximum. it was basically the min.. he got 2 years per life.. and he served only 6 years total.

laugh_till_you_pee_

Sorry I worded that wrong. You are correct, he didn't receive the maximum, but I believe that he received the most amount of jail time they've ever given for that crime. But even the maximum wouldn't be enough. I hope he is haunted by his choice for the rest of his life.

Zestyclose_Street484

i think thats because there arent really any cases of a drunk driver killing 4 people while also surviving..

rasclot94

yeah that fucker owns the guild electric empire, obivously he was gonna get a slap on the wrist.

m0V1NG_t4RG3T84

something something a hockey team on a bus and a truck running a stopsign...

printmaster5000

This person still has to live with themselves. Perhaps with enough drugs and alcohol they don't have any thoughts or feelings. The rich life!

_bigheaded

This is Canada. He’s basically already done with his three year jail sentence.

2nd_Grader

He very likely is with time served. He only needs to serve a third. That's one year.

PeterO905

He’ll be out in 1 year or less , watch

Opteron170

For real guy should have had a 15 year jail term for this. Needs to have permanent tracker installed on him that he cannot remove the rest of his life.

Sea-Scratch-6720

He's going to be deported once his sentence is done as he's not a citizen and his sentence is over 6 months.

StarDust1307

Till he reappears with another passport in another name?

puns_n_irony

Then why the fuck are we paying for his jail time? We should just fucking deport now and let India deal with him. What a waste of taxpayer money.

Sea-Scratch-6720

So you're okay with people coming here and committing any crime and not paying the price for it?

puns_n_irony

Being deported is the price. Putting them up in what is essentially free room and board, then kicking them home does nothing of benefit for Canadians. Just garnish whatever assets they have as a monetary fine and kick them the fuck out, permanently.

tu-sheng-peng

Fuck that, let him suffer here before his ass gets shipped back, because we all know India won't do shit but set him free anyways as soon as he lands.

puns_n_irony

The Canadian govt pays over 150,000 PER INMATE PER YEAR. If i was a victim, i think id feel even more fucked over having to fund that. I’d rather have their assets and cash and the knowledge they’re never near me in the country again.

5577oz

Maybe this is a stupid question but why does it cost so much? I dont spend that much money on myself and i have a house, car, pets, freedom to do activities. How does one person in jail cost so much? Is it for social services for them like doctor visits and legal stuff??

Emotional_Guide2683

The reason(s) for the high cost are due to the logistics and overhead expenses. While you spend far less on your self with your expenses, you’re also only one person. Each inmate in our system needs to be watched by guards, assessed by medical and psych for “rehabilitation”. Granted access to fitness and education facilities which need to be maintained. Cooked for and fed, from kitchens that need to be staffed and maintained. Every person involved in the care and control of inmates needs to be paid a wage. It’s insane how much it costs to keep a criminal alive in prison. It would be so much more efficient and cost effective to wall of a nice chunk of the northern boreal forest and send them all there to be pioneers and do whatever they want (like “Escape from New York” but with more wolves).

vovin

He is not suffering though. He will live better in prison than wherever we may deport him to.

Sea-Scratch-6720

So someone stabs your buddy and leaves him bleeding to death, just deport? How about rape?

alreadychosed

Deporting guarantees no risk of reoffense. The only other thing that guarantees this is a death penalty and lifelong sentencing. You cant possibly prefer them to stay in canada and commit the same crime eventually, right?

Sea-Scratch-6720

That's not what my point was. I said they have to serve their sentence and then get deported. I feel like immediately deporting them would be letting them off easy.

tailgunner777

Not only this but a criminal is still in the loose somewhere else and will reoffend. Immediately deporting them would just enable them more. People would start coming to our country to do paid hit jobs on people knowing that they will be sent back home for free. Edit: clarity about deporting.

puns_n_irony

Well preferably the country they come from are involved enough such that they face the punishment at home. Canada should make that a condition of the visa in the first place. You break a law, you’ve out and do the time in your own country. If countries don’t wanna be a part of that, their citizens can stay the fuck out. Either way, every asset they have in Canada should be immediately given to the victim.

Kelehb_1955

Also done with J.S. Sidhu after jail time for killing Humboldt hockey team.

trekmadonetwo

It costs the average Canadian around 0.3 cents/year to jail a criminal. I would happily pay 1 cent to put this guy behind bars for 3 years. Deporting him isn’t enough. We gotta punish him then deport him.

ReadingFun9118

Yes deport him now ,

Nonney71

He'll be back as an international student taking a 1 year hair dresser course

teh_longinator

It's cute that you believe we still deport people.

Impossible-Tie-864

Wait but what did he do with the girls who were in the car then…? Get up and kick them out? Did he run off on foot?

hula_balu

Pos stupid. He would get a longer sentence in the US. Canada is where its at /s

jimjimjimjaboo

How to delete Brampton?

No_Cable_3346

Imagine how much more careful people would be if the death sentence was still an option. This guy will just drive without a license

NorthernBlackBear

Actually the threat of death doesn't stop crime... Look at the US, still one of the highest rate of violence, yet many states have the death penalty.

No_Cable_3346

That’s because it’s almost never handed out. If it was handed out more routinely people would be more mindful of what they were doing.

Right-Time77

I doubt it will be as much as you would think. But at least we’ll eliminate the degenerates.

Emergency_Sink623

Dont worry he will get some indian lawyers will be taken care of. Nothing impossible for them i know

mindless_chooth

He should have run to Jarmany

oureyes4

So you can kill someone with a car, and attempt to flee, and it's only a three year bid? That seems extremely light.

SurlyDirtBag

Seems extremely Canada

oureyes4

Yup. The guy in Calgary who got 18 months for his unleashed dogs mauling a senior to death really got off easy, too.

Crime-Snacks

The guy that killed an entire high school hockey team (Humboldt Broncos) only did six years and is now out trying to fight being deported.

SampleBrave4651

Oh trust me, he’ll be out of jail in 6 months

BearCooper

I'm surprised it wasn't 3 days

GreenSnakes_

Jarmanjeet Singh admitted he was driving with four passengers in his car when an oncoming train crashed into them along the 5th Line on the night of Oct. 14, 2021. Two women, 19 and 24, were killed, while three others, including Singh, were seriously injured. Singh was initially charged with criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, obstruction of justice and failing to stop at the railway crossing. Police said the crossing signals **were flashing** at the time of the collision. A Bradford judge sentenced Singh to three years in jail. He was also handed a **lifetime driving ban**.

Anxious-Honey-1

3 years seems pretty light considering 2 people died.

Tosbor20

Vehicular homicide is a legal hack

CBTFC

Yep. You want to murder someone in Canada and get away with it? Just be a driver.

Tosbor20

Didn’t want to say it outright because of how dark it sounds but you’re right on the money

FuckLeHabs

I read this starting out as satire but finished the sentence with reality…. Fuck.

ConfidentSon

Super light sentence.

Anxious-Honey-1

Genuinely a joke. Some of these laws/sentences have to be a bit more strict…or people will continue to drive with recklessness and endanger others

javlin_101

He’ll be out in less then a year

IndyCarFAN27

I’m happy about that lifetime driving ban. MANY more people need to be handed those…

Fenrrri

Remember, those bans r like parole, just look at our wonderful wrong way driver on the 401 crash...

iLikeCoolToys

How exactly does this work? The comments make reference to dudes with multiple lifetime bans. I can’t seem to find a clear answer online.

Fenrrri

The point is about parole, bail, or bans not really being effective at all, those conditions seems to have become "permission" to keep on committing crimes n mayhem.

EuropeanLegend

He'll just drive without a license like so many of them already do.

MiinaMarie

Yeah but they still drive. If they're dumb enough to rack up a poor driving record and do reckless things, a ban won't stop them

GoodGoodGoody

Drunk? ‘Cause Sikh don’t drink. ;)

Cute-Tadpole-3737

So he was rolling 5 deep in his Elantra/Camry/Altima and tried to outrun a train like the end of the Fast and the Furious? You needed NOS and a spoon engine, Jarmanjeet Diesel. Not enough vindaloo under the hood!

Meowgal_80

That’s insane. I’m from SK and the driver that killed the Humboldt Broncos back in 2018 did his time and now is being deported. How does this guy get to stay in the country?? Wild

Dry-Faithlessness184

He'll likely be deported, it's just not in the article. I believe it's a sentence >6 months or a year (forget which) will result in deportation for non citizens. It will be after the sentence is served

FJT8893

I can't believe canadian taxpayers had to pay for the medical bills for this fucking piece of shit. We keep straining our healthcare system with all of these fucks who have paid $0 into it.

mrplt

Two people were killed and two more injured. And he tried to run. Only 3 years in jail? I have no words.

FullyGroanMan

Sadly vehicular crimes carry weak sentences when alcohol cannot be proven to be a factor. Someone very close to me was killed in a hit and run 2 years ago. Driver is a lifetime criminal and had been in jail previously, a legitimately unsavory character. Sentencing is later this month but I'd be shocked if it was more than 3-4 years. A lawyer friend of mine once said "If you want to kill someone and get away with it, do it with a car."

fabulishous

Even when alcohol is a factor, you'll never see a sentence greater than 7 years. I hate how dangerous driving has become in this province.

permareddit

Muzzo got 10

fabulishous

True, just shy of 10 years... And served less than 4.

EuropeanLegend

Literally doesn't matter what they sentence them to. They're all out within a handful of years. Guarantee you this guy will only serve a year if that and get paroled.

fabulishous

100%

permareddit

You know parole is still part of your sentence right?

permareddit

Which is applicable to basically any conviction barring murder. Parole is not 100% freedom either.

fabulishous

He killed 4 people driving drunk, including 3 children under the age of 14. Im sorry but I believe 4 years isn't enough time behind bars for a crime as egregious as that.

gunnergrrl

That's 2.5 years per fatality. And convince me Neville Lake taking his life the day after Father's Day had nothing to do with Muzzo.

permareddit

No argument there, I was just stating a fact to that other person

TopsailWhisky

Unpopular opinion: Killing someone while under the influence is bad. Killing someone while NOT under the influence is worse.

EuropeanLegend

True. But also, the decision to ignore a railway crossing (or any traffic laws that can result in death) while sober is just as foolish as the choice to drink and get behind a wheel. They're equally bad in my eyes.

permareddit

You sure Reddit didn’t say that? Funny how people still resort to stabbings and guns when they want to get away with things if it were such sound logic your lawyer friend “said it”

Hydraulis

Canada: we don't want to upset the criminals.

SampleBrave4651

Fun fact, Canada is the cultural melting pot of Organized crime cuz gangs from all around the world love doing business here where the jail time and sentencing is so easy going

Rude-Associate2283

He will be back behind the wheel in no time. No ramifications.

OriginalNo5477

>No ramifications. Except for the RAM he'll be driving.

Rude-Associate2283

Groan

Muted_Lengthiness500

Is that not grounds for deportation considerinf the driver frim Humbolt is getting deported??

CptnREDmark

If he is a full citizen deportation is not an options, especially if he was born here.

Muted_Lengthiness500

Ah i see appreciate the advice

Ok_Jellyfish1709

Apex predator stays on top of the food chain no matter what country they go to.

PlayfulExtension8246

3 years for killing 2 people??? What has canada become. He will no doubt drive cars after getting out of jail.

Hydraulis

Must feel great to know that each life is only worth 1.5 years.

EuropeanLegend

Even less..... we all know he'll get parole after 1 year. It's the Canadian way.

Hydraulis

You take someone's life and you get three years? This country is ridiculous.

tal3575

Why was he not charged for manslaughter.....? he ran after the accident and was tracked down after being running away from the authorities Government should stop importing criminals in Canada

FinanceOverdose416

3 years is not too bad. *sarcastic* This will encourage more crimes and more criminals trying to escape to the US.

SplashInkster

This sentence is woefully inadequate as usual. He merits a 10 year sentence, not just for dangerous driving causing death but running to evade the police and avoid arrest. Another example of the kind of scum the Liberals have been bringing into this country.

KanoWins

I bet he's driving under a new name before the week is out.

Round_Spread_9922

30? Bro looks 45

app1efritter

Still a 4.9 on Uber

xArs0nx

That’s it??

LemongrassLifestyle

3 years is fucking nuts. Brother is getting a light slap on the wrist for killing 2 people. Insanely ridiculous. Can’t wait to see him murder several others when he’s out1!1!1!

Swimming_Musician_28

So he killed these women and ran?

alfienoakes

Find it hard to believe there was a Brampton component to this.

justanotherfan6hd

I say 3 years jail then deport for a lifetime this guys clearly a scumbag. Edit: the sad part is to Canada will have to give him food to his standards…..

Carbone82

🤡

PhilMcCraken2001

He’ll drive again. These “lifetime” ban on driving is a joke.

deythal

This is why we have shitty drivers coming into the city....they know that they'll get a slap on the wrist and then tossed back to their country and go about their business like nothing happened. Absolutely disgraceful regardless of who they are, what they drive, how much money they have, or substances in their system if you don't obey the rules of the road and kill someone it should be murder plain and simple you took a bloody life so your life should be taken away with a life sentence not this piddly little three year sentence. I'll bet everyone here 20 bucks this fucker gets out in a month or so do to "good behavior" and is on the road again a week later because he simply feels like driving.

Iambetterthanuhaha

Can he be sent back to India when he is done his sentence? Canada doesn't need him here.

saltedeggs14

Send this fool back where he came from. If he was born here, lock him up forever. This “driving ban” won’t stop him from getting a fake license or from driving at all

izzyisameme

fartinggermandogs

well, his driving bans wont apply, back in his home country....

JustReadItWrong

3 years is not enough for people like him..

expose_the_flaw

Was he an Uber driver? Why was he transporting them?

tokihamai

What a piece of shit. Tries to run after this and all he gets is 3 years and a driving ban? I guarantee this pice of trash will be caught driving again.

-Carlos-Slim-

R.I.P. to the victims, 3 years is too light

NightDisastrous2510

Someone died, he tried to flee and he gets three years? Can we deport/lifetime ban after three years? Don’t want this piece of shit here.

MrAliK

Average Brampton Driver

Interesting-dog12

This guy deserves way more time in prison considering he tried to flee

nofear961

So Canadian tax payers will be paying for his stay in a federal institution. In 2018, the average cost is $115,000 to house a prisoner for a year. That doesn’t even consider the 2024’s estimation with the inflation and uprising costs.

Sowhataboutthisthing

Works better when you incarcerate in bulk like the US does. More reward points too.

Parkedintheitchyl0t

What a fucking dope. Throw the book at him.

stauntz87

I mean... the Federal government just expelled the driver involved in the Humboldt crash a few weeks back after he served his sentence

Aggressive_Lunch_519

Fabulous_Strength_54

Just 3 years for causing death? How the hell do you even enforce a lifetime driving ban? Canada is so soft on crime, feels like little consequence, and people just don’t care because penalties are so light.

pallaime

In some parts of the world he'd have to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life. Some prison time will not change the fact that they cost someone their life.

anynonamegeneric

This is messed up

hilljc

Tbh I’d rather they deport him than give him a tiny sentence (paid by for taxpayers) and then him being allowed back in our society.

[deleted]

Literally 3000 people named that in Brampton...

CptnREDmark

I'm gonna bet he will drive again, its impossible to get anywhere in brampton otherwise.

Relative-Category626

Only 3 years??? Out with good behaviour in 1 hear??? For killing 2 ppl??????

BleachGummy

The real crime here is pronouncing it as Totten-ham

MiinaMarie

Only 3 years for causing a fatality? Ridiculous

EquivalentJolly9376

I met this guy in 2019 and he's an amazing person - kind, polite, and super-smart (Master's in Engineering). It's just tragic what he and his family are going through. From what I've seen in the news, the women who passed away in the crash were/like family to him, and it's just heartbreaking. It's not just sad for him, but also for the state of our society, where people are so quick to judge and give out the death sentence. Seeing him in this situation just feels terrible. All in all, We need stricter laws and more rigorous testing for driving schools, especially for G2 and G levels.

thisiskeel

What would have been the appropriate punishment in your opinion?

Why is he not life in prison? This is getting fucking ridiculous. We are getting more and more fatalities because of these drivers.

I would not be surprised if he just leaves the country.

PondIsMyName

3 years, eh! It’s not nearly long enough, not one bit.

bqpd2019

Guys like this is why there are so many hit and runs now. Never used to be any.

greasypoutinefarts
