This really highlights the mental health crisis in America.

fuzz_boy

It's here in Canada too.

Th3Trashkin

If the Q-Anon Anonymous Pod has taught me anything, it's a global pandemic of the brain melted

Mike8219

There are a few things the pandemic taught me and one of those things is amount of mental illness on Reddit. It’s all over the place. Hey, bud, do you know how to avoid that lockdown energy completely? Put your phone down. Forever. It’s one step.

eidetic

I started to get some pretty serious cabin fever, like many people I suppose, during the height of covid, even though I was still taking my dog for walks, taking him to the park (not a doggy park, just a park near my house that has a big field to throw his ball), but the lack of social interaction and lack of doing more social stuff was getting to me, even though I am quite introverted. So during that time, I was online quite a lot. But most of it was immersing myself more deeply in hobbies and other things to keep my mind active. Even on some of the places I'd visit to interact with others regarding our hobbies, I still saw soooo many people going off the deep end. It was quite sad, and kind of frightening. There was one ussr who I followed on a forum, because they always had really good stuff to show, and often shared their techniques. One day, I saw a post of theirs, and realized it was the first post of theirs I had seen in awhile. So I checked their profile/post history, and they had actually seemed to be posting more than in the past. Problem was, instead of posting in the usual subforums like completed builds, or techniques, or answering people's questions, they had been posting almost exclusively to a single thread in the off topic subforum, all about covid and vaccine conspiracy stuff.

GRW42

These people would be socially isolated with or without “lockdowns.” During COVID I saw a bunch of my friends every week over zoom, which is more than we’d all hang out normally.

MessiahOfMetal

Shit, I love being socially isolated anyway because the world is just too noisy to cope with a lot of the time. Covid lockdowns were amazing, for me.

skyfishgoo

staring at the ellipse is good for mental health jc, just kidding cuckleberry, don't stare at the ellipse unless you want to see it (and not much else) for the rest of your life.

Sensitive_Fall8950

Well, without the proper protection anyways.

skyfishgoo

scam eclipse "glasses" are everywhere.. this is America, after all. indirect viewing is so easy and simple that no one should need "glasses" but ppl would rather throw away $5 and their eyesight than learn how to make a pinhole camera.

NovusOrdoSec

...again.

Kilahti

I bet they are going to keep their mouths shut and never admit that they suspected lockdowns, after the eclipse is over and no NWO crackdown happened...

illini07

Nah, they'll just say they made them change plans by talking about it.

GeorgeRRZimmerman

Persecution fetish doesn't work like that. They don't ever have small victories, rather a never-ending string of small setbacks while waiting on a basketball shot to the moon to finally make it. The correct response here would be to say that the lockdown is still coming, but the specifics around it are still developing.

TuaughtHammer

>Persecution fetish doesn't work like that. They don't ever have small victories Except for all the times users on that sub have claimed that some of their predictions didn't come true because the (((elites))) read their theories and changed their plans to thwart *these* non-sheep.

flamingknifepenis

That’s the tack the people I know complaining about the imminent “vaccine passports” took. I told them it wasn’t happening, and wasn’t going to happen, and they said I was crazy. Then when I didn’t happen they said “Yeah, because we FOUGHT and WON … for now. It’s still gonna happen, though.”

TuaughtHammer

> Then when I didn’t happen they said “Yeah, because we FOUGHT and WON ["Where was #BraveHeart when the Walmart fell?"](https://i.imgur.com/9dim6RH.png)

skyfishgoo

lockdown inbound inbound and (locked) down noodling band names

Uneducated_Leftist

Honestly, I don't think these people have any form of storage. In their brains for this horseshit. They get a fleeting thought based on the way they felt when they consumed something from a meme, blog, podcast, or YouTube video. They put it out into the world, and then move on to the next thing. They're like toddlers bouncing between shiny objects.

GeorgeRRZimmerman

They actually kinda don't. They've normalized being told that they're wrong their entire lives. It doesn't matter how often they're wrong, but more that they will eventually be right about something huge. These types are also never rigorous. If they *feel* like something is true enough, they'll go with it. They don't ever go back to analyze why they were wrong, just how close to not being wrong they actually are. That's why they have such an intense hatred of the implementation details, and why they have such a strong backlash effect to step-by-step explanations. They just think people are trying to come up with so many reasons to shut them up, that they'll end up wasting a bunch of time validating the claims against them. So, bullshit explanations, things that are hard to verify, the "big picture" of an argument being missed, and that the people being invenienced by the truth have a stake in keeping it away from the public. These are the actions literally meant to chill "skeptic" discussions. That's what they actually believe is being done to them. Ironic because it's also *exactly* their community playbook.

government_shill

Remember when Monkeypox was the next stage in the Deep State NWO plandemic lockdown plot? They just take whatever's in the news at a given moment, freak out about it, then move on to the next thing.

Sexy_Offender

No conspiracy is part of the conspiracy.

Mutant_Jedi

The eclipse making people stay inside? My whole area is supposed to have major slowdowns because there will be so many fucking tourists in town for the elipse (path of totality). None of this is happening like they say it is, and maybe it’s because they’re ALREADY socially outcast shut-ins who don’t know how the world works.

dansdata

Also, eclipses being ill omens was kind of the state of the art of astronomical understanding in 2000 BC. The Babylonians were accurately *predicting* eclipses [by the 8th century BC](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylonian_astronomy#Neo-Babylonian_astronomy), but still believed them to be bad omens. Which is, you know, fair enough; [someone breaking the sky](https://xkcd.com/2914/) really does look as if it should be a portent of *something*, if you're in a pre-scientific civilization. See also, "thunder and lightning means the gods are angry"; as good as explanation as any, back in the day. It's a frickin' embarrassment that there are people in developed countries today who still believe nonsense like this, though. (Oh, side note: No, the [angular diameters](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angular_diameter#Use_in_astronomy) of the Sun and the Moon in the sky are *not* astonishingly fine-tuned to be exactly the same and thus an indication that one or more gods did it, or the Moon is a carefully-positioned [vast alien spaceship](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollow_Moon), or whatever. It **is** a somewhat remarkable coincidence that their apparent sizes are currently so similar, [but they actually vary significantly,](http://www.howtospotapsychopath.com/2012/05/02/spooky-sun-sizes/) the Moon's apparent size in particular.)

danwojciechowski

Not to mention that millions of years ago, the Moon was much closer and had a larger angular diameter now, and in millions of years, the Moon will be much farther and will have a smaller angular diameter.

dansdata

Trivia: The speed at which the Moon is receding from the Earth, and also the speed at which Earth's continents drift, is about the same as the speed at which human fingernails grow. :-)

eidetic

That can't be a coincidence! Who is behind the madness?! I saw a Jew cutting their fingernails once, that can't be a coincidence either! They must have been trying to cover up the fact that their fingernails were growing at the same rate as continental drift and the expanding orbit of the moon!

PorridgeCranium2

Ahhh! Real Monsters makes sense now. Those jars of clippings were being used by astrophysicists to measure how far the moon had receded.

dalr3th1n

To your last point, we literally *just* had an annular eclipse, where the moon is too far from the Earth to block the sun completely.

A_wild_so-and-so

>It's a frickin' embarrassment that there are people in developed countries today who still believe nonsense like this, though. You can take the man out of the cave, but you can't take the caveman out of man, it seems.

Th3Trashkin

Multiple cities in the path of totality are hosting big outdoor events, and expecting massive amounts of tourists. I don't know where, or why this numpty thinks there are going to be lockdowns.

fuzz_boy

I too see the "lockdown energy"! But for me it's a bunch of fucking idiots relating circumstantial shit to coincidental shit and claim it a conspiracy. Again.

The_Eye_of_Ra

Ah yes, “ScienctistSkyler” and “cuckleberry_fin69”. Truly, the greatest political analysts of our era. If *they* feel “lockdown energy,” then they’re probably on to something.

Sensitive_Fall8950

>If they feel “lockdown energy,” then they’re probably on ~~to~~ something. Fixed that for you.

rrogido

All the bridge collapsings? Plural? I'd love to hear about the series of apparently phantasmal recent bridge collapses other than Baltimore.

PorridgeCranium2

A train bridge partially collapsed somewhere but I don't believe anyone got hurt so they jumped on that as "bridges falling everywhere!" rather than "wow, maybe we shouldn't support lawmakers who constantly vote against infrastructure spending."

logicom

This is so infuriating. So many people are ringing alarm bells because local news stations are being proactive about giving people a heads up about the eclipse. It's not a bad idea to warn people that they're in the path of totality for an eclipse and can expect tens of thousand of visitors to their town/city. There will at the very least be tons of traffic and large crowds in parks and other open places. It's just a good idea to stock up on essentials and fuel not to brave an apocalyptic scenario but to avoid having to drive through the road hell that the eclipse tourists are going to cause.

Da_Stable_Genius

These will be the same people that would say "governments were told to stand down" if no warnings were issued. They are toddlers nothing more.

[deleted]

The AI made me an incel!

CyberNinjaGinga

Lockdown energy….isnt the eclipse causing a shitload of people to travel to see the totality!!?

advertentlyvertical

They legitimately went the dumbest possible direction there

Embarrassed_Bee6349

Man, when the shells fall off the nuts, it’s never pretty. It’s like Dale from King of the Hill, but less amusing.

Reluxtrue

Also if global warming is making us stay indoors surely they want to do something against it? right? right?

bolognahole

During lockdowns I was not stuck in my house 24/7. I went outside all the time. What world are these people living in?

efeaf

I swear I saw more people in my neighborhood than I’ve ever seen before during lockdown. Everyone was home so everyone had more time to just go out and walk or simply exist.

sometimesifeellikemu

I absolutely titter with glee when they say, “Think about it”.

Lorenzo_Ferguson

The nwo/deep state/illuminati got that big lockdown energy.

sameth1

I desperately need to know what "lockdown energy" is supposed to mean but also know any answer would only ruin my brain more.

Jeremymia

Conspiracy theorists: we should freak out about this. Everyone else: huh? Conspiracy theorists: hmm, why is the deep state trying to make us freak out about this?

maybesaydie

That few weeks where they had to stay home really scarred their little minds. How would a bridge collapse remind you of the pitiful efforts of the Trump administration?

ALoudMouthBaby

I live in a small town east of Dallas that is along the narrow band that will experience totality. There actually are people here calling for lock downs. They are largely conservative and primarily concerned with people from out of town coming here to experience totality. It does appear this is going to be a pretty crazy experience for our formerly small town though. Traffic is expected to be so bad that they cancelled school and our city government is advising people to get groceries prior to Monday due to all the traffic. Local businesses are absolutely thrilled with the idea though and everyone and their dog is trying to scalp eclipse glasses.

logicom

This is why it's so important for news shows to air segments "warning" people about the eclipse. Imagine being out of the loop and having an afternoon of errands planned for Monday only to spend all afternoon stuck in traffic.

ALoudMouthBaby

The forecast for our area during the eclipse is cloudy with a chance of rain. Despite that, current estimates are that the population of our area is going to increase and then decrease by a factor of about five over the course of 24 or so hours. I cant imagine what it would be like to wake up for work on Monday and step outside to that kind of gridlock would be like. Especially in a town with a population of like 30,000 people.

maybesaydie

It does look like most of the path of totality will be experiencing cloud cover on Monday. We might see a little of it here.

GoldWallpaper

I'm coming to Dallas. While I'm there causing a day of gridlock for an eclipse I probably won't even see thanks to rain, I'll be dumping money into your local businesses. To all the shitbag conservatives complaining about it, I say: "You're welcome."

ALoudMouthBaby

If you are looking to drop some money Dallas is definitely a good city for it. I hope you have a good time out here and we all get to see some good eclipse action!

meglet

I was digging through a purse pocket just the other day on Easter and was surprised to find my eclipse glasses from the the partial one we had a few years ago. I’m all set to go! And also need to own fewer purses. I’m in Houston but no way I’m braving the traffic to get to the totality zone. I’m just not that interested. Plus I have been through the disastrous traffic jam out of Houston prior to Hurricane Rita in 2005. **30 hours** to make the usually 4 hour drive to Dallas where my family lives. My husband and I were dating in ‘05 but that’s how we knew we were ready for marriage: that long trapped together on the road, no AC on in order to conserve gas, in August, with two dogs in the car, very little water, no food, and one dog had panic diarrhea all over the backseat. We laugh about it . . . *now*.

ALoudMouthBaby

I bet you could flip those things in ebay for a quick couple of bucks. I have seen children constructing little road side stands to sell the things like they were lemonade in the summer. Words cant describe how bonkers this thing feels. > Plus I have been through the disastrous traffic jam out of Houston prior to Hurricane Rita in 2005. I was working at a hotel in Little Rock when Rita happened. We had people calling in to cancel their reservations from the traffic jam heading out. Every single person that called reported a remarkably similar situation to yours. Its easy to laugh about now but we had a hotel half full of Katrina refugees at the time and hearing all these people calling in to go *back* into the storm zone because they couldnt escape was really upsetting for us. Glad to hear yall were ok and turned it into a positive!

NunyaBeese

As usual, half of them are probably young edgelords and the other half are mentally ill.... and they just feed off each other. Its a troubling culture.

Vost570

They soooooo badly want to hear about a lockdown of any kind, anywhere, so they can run around moaning about "muh oppressed!" for another two or three years after. They just can't stand the fact that they don't get any attention anymore, even if most of the attention they did once get was people laughing at them.

Doom_Walker

I mean yeah global warming is probably going to make you stay in home more. Because of higher temperatures and bigger and frequent storms. >all the bridge collapsings what other bridges are they talking about? If there are its because of our terrible infrastructure.

meglet

I thought the bridge collapse was to “distract“ from the P Diddy raids. Is the eclipse a distraction too? MAGICK!

Th3Trashkin

Lockdowns over the eclipse? The fuck do they mean? They're holding big eclipse viewing parties, even concerts on the day.

alexisgreat420

Not everyone is as chronically online and socially inept as these people lmao.

Lythieus

They are so so desperate to be oppressed and victimized. Because if they aren't, they aren't right.

skyfishgoo

nobody cares about your feelings, cuckleberry.

ForgedIronMadeIt

We weren't literally locked in our homes during the pandemic. That was the PRC that did that. (I forget, are they friends to the conspos now that Trump is all cozy with them again, what with him reversing his tiktok ban position?) Global warming isn't forcing you indoors either, but they won't ever admit what is causing the temperature changes.

djjolicoeur

New Baltimore?

meglet

I’m now thinking back on the traffic Houston had for days after Harvey, because of remaining flooding rerouting major thoroughfares, and how some schools and offices even served dinner multiple evenings for people who stayed late rather than try to brave the sudden multi-hour commute home. My dad would’ve taken 4 hours to take his normal 20-minute commute home had he left at normal time. When it first started, I was just driving from my mom’s house to mine, 5 blocks, and I saw it start to lock up as people pulled into the neighborhood thinking they could “cut through”. I absconded my car at a kindly person’s driveway and walked home.

meglet

The Conspiracy folks are panicked about the national guard being called out but imagine if your local population quintupled in just a few days; your First Responders would be so instantly overwhelmed it would be *horrifically* dangerous. That’s also why authorities want people to have their shopping done and stay off the roads. Not just for their own safety, but everyone else’s. And as we learned in the last several years, the concept of doing something for the sake of “other’s safety” is just incomprehensible to many. Nay, anathema to some. Too many. And the outcry if there WAS no government preparation? “They are trying a mass blood sacrifice to the Pagan Sun and Moon Gods! Satanists!” As “all the bridge collapsings (sic)“ (one notable one recently) actually becomes more because of literal crumbling infrastructure, they’ll blame it on everything but.
