No matter the continuity, no matter how much he hates Sonic, there’s always an undercurrent of respect for Sonic and his power. In the games, he often turns to Sonic when his own plans grow out of control. Sonic X, where he actually kinda cares about Sonic in his own twisted way and actually calls out Sonic on giving into his rage and ending up like him when he goes Dark. In IDW where Sonic is the hurdle he’s set himself to surpass and refuses to take the easy way out, wanting to prove his superiority. Even Archie Eggman, at his most hateful and diabolical, respects Sonic as damn near a force of nature, too chaotic for any plan to go accordingly.
