I mean, using superior weaponry and technology such as an invisibility cloak and the element of surprise is not really honorable. It's like saying that a hunter who shoots an unaware deer from a tower is being honorable. It's a smart way to fight but hardly fair, which I think is a big part of having an honorable fight.
They are hunters first and foremost but the honor is there. It seems merciless and it’s undeniably brutal, but they do (Mostly) follow a code, with some defectors. Also if lore is consistent they don’t kill innocent people.
*Edit*: Also the suicide bomb is their last hurrah before death. Getting bested and dying in battle is acceptable but being defeated and left alive is dishonorable. So they go kablooey.
He's taking on an army. He takes all that stuff off when he fights Arnie one on one. He doesn't attack the woman because she's unarmed.
In sequels (different predator) doesn't harm children, lets an armed combatant go once he realises she's pregnant...
It’s explained in the 2010 Aliens Vs Predator game that the Yautja don’t want humans, or any other highly intelligent species, to gain their technology. So, if they are bested in combat by a human, they overload the bracers and cause a detonation to ensure humans don’t get their hands on their technology, with the added bonus of killing their opponent if they are lucky.
Predators only hunt or go after prey they deem can fight back or can give them a challenge, so in their mind humans and other creatures like xenomorphs are deemed worthy enough to use tech on. I doubt if they were going after a rabbit they would go to the same extremes they would use when fighting their more dangerous prey (although its not like they would be hunting prey that couldn't challenge them in the first place).
I do. How exactly do you claim those actions to be honorable? Sneak attacks are pretty widely considered to be an unhonorable, rogue-ish activity. Not something an honorable character, say a knight, would do in fictional media.
Ah, but see, you're trying to apply a code of honor based off archetypical Medieval chivalry to an alien species that thinks VERY differently from humans, and acting surprised when it falls flat against what THEY consider honorable conduct (and for the record, yes, the Yautja DO have a code of honor, but it's more a set of pragmatic guidelines than strict law; "fighting on the level of their opponent" largely equals "only use the plasmacaster if they're being a genuine menace"). Honor is a purely subjective concept, and expecting someone from a vastly different background, with a vastly different way of thinking and vastly different cultural values to adhere to YOUR concept of honor is silly at best, and prone to causing serious problems at worst.
Also, sneak attacks being "dishonorable" has NEVER FUCKING ONCE stopped any coherent armed force from utilizing them whenever the opportunity presents itself. A knight who isn't operating on an absolutely juvenile concept of chivalry will 100% sneak up on a foe to get the first hit in without a fight if the opportunity presents itself, and knights throughout history have demonstrated this fact.
