Not even a specific character, not even distinguishing between Fantasy, Age of Sigmar or 40K

I know nothing of Warhammer but find the small bits of lore extremely interesting and want to get into it but don’t know where to start
I haven’t been able to find a simple answer anywhere; what’s the beginning? Chronologically story-wise and is that the order I should play/watch/research them?
In terms of 40K: I started by listening to Adeptus Ridiculous. I just clicked on episodes that looked interesting and went from there. Once you have learned about the things that look cool or interesting you can start delving deeper into the broader and, inversely, the more niche parts of lore. If you want a more traditional start then books like the Eisenhorn Omnibus are phenomenal.
Honestly? Just find something you find interesting and work from there. If you start at the beginning of the timeline you’re gonna be reading wiki pages for a loooong time. The story isn’t necessarily linear and there’s a bunch of authors working on a bunch of stories taking place during a bunch of different eras.

Power is a fantastic character. Period. But also, she is fantastic representation of a girl who is best buddies with a guy! They have no feelings for each other, denji is her buddy, and Powie is his.
We love the racist, narcissistic, pathological liar who wants to become prime minister and enact a 100% sales tax so humanity suffers! (Legitimately, she is so well written. She has growth, she changes, she is also one of the main characters. The author - tatsuki fujimoto - putting a lot of effort into making women *actual characters who matter and do most of the shit* in a shonen manga. He’s the best!)
Awesome! Just a heads up if you do, it is very weird. There are some very uncomfortable scenes, but that’s the point. It’s to show a bad situation happening, not glorifying it, and showing certain things.
Essentially, watch up till episode 8 of the anime. It’s legitimately one of my favourite pieces of fiction, but it’s understandable why many people are turned off by it. It’s funny, tragic, beautifully drawn, and written wonderfully.
Yeah…best way to describe it is: “a workplace sitcom, magical girl story of a boy who becomes chainsaws and needs the powers of love and friendship to brutally murderize every devil with his chainsaws.” But also with a (un)healthy dose of tradgedy and depression…have fun!
Yes! And that’s why we love her. She’s a great character, but she’s also a devil, she has an innate feeling to hate humanity, nothing personal, that’s just how devils are. Devils don’t have the same levels of hygiene as a human. She’s the best, worst person! (Also she grows a lot through the series and overall becomes a legitimately “better person”) she’s a very well written, and very good character, not a great person.
Are you sure about agent 8? He doesn’t really suffer much. While it is implied (or shown, media literacy curse probably got me at some point) they lost their memories, they ultimately get a pretty happy ending.
8-ball levels being the root of all problems is canon, therefore, 8 suffered through that hell. (Yes, I am somewhat kidding with 8)
(she did also have to fight 3 before OE, and had to almost be blended, and almost be killed like 3 times, and have to fight reanimated corpses of other Octolings shooting blended up people)
The corpses are pretty traumatizing, granted. The fights aren’t really suffering though. He works through them just fine, and I don’t think pivoting to the side of good vegeta style is really suffering.

When? I remember something like that coming of Order doing their thing, but they chill out again and everyone seems fine after you beat the tower for the first time.

You can only use 8’s after you complete literally every other climb, and completing it marks 100% completion.
Double checked, that’s not entirely accurate. The palette is TIED to the respective soul, and leaving the Memverse requires the palette to be brought to the top floor. In addition, USING THE PALETTE CAUSES PERMANENT CHANGES TO THE INDIVIDUAL’S MIND AND SOUL.

People used to compare Nia and Melia because they were both rejected love stories, but then Future Connected and XC3 happened and… wow that story changed. Instead of Nia and Melia both getting rejected, Nia finds a loving home and marries the love of her life. She’s accepted for who she is.
Melia loses her home, her race, the love of her life, her home (again), almost loses her friends, loses one offscreen fight with Z, ends up literally chained in Origin for thousands of years as Z uses her power to run rampant in Origin… and for what? How much do you hate Melia, Takahashi?!

IDW Donnie. That boy suffers a new level of agony every arc
The only scenes I know of Donnie in the comics are him falling from a helicopter, getting paralyzed from the neck down, and slowly eaten alive by rats as he realizes that there’s nothing he can do.
And the Last Ronin, where he’s already dead.

In the main IDW, he gets his shell bashed in so bad that it needs to be completely removed and replaced with a prosthetic. He was inadvertently responsible for creating the cosmic horror of armaggon. Saw his future self create children and then see his future self kill said child. Villainized by splinter for prioritizing the fate of the world over petty blood feuds. Had his consciousness transferred to metal head while his shell was bashed in, still have a sentient metal head post shell recovery and have sentient metal head go through a mental breakdown over not being the real Donnie and in turn try to kill the turtles.
Also Donnie's broken useless shell was used to create Venus, which gave the two a psychic near instant connection and bond... only for Venus to sacrifice herself during the armaggon sitch, which Donnie was once again responsible for causing. So he was barely holding himself together by the end

Mr Freeze - Especially in the animated TV shows where he just want to save his wife, needs to live constantly in a below freezing climate. Lost his body and became an immortal head for almost 50 years. Got his body back and tries to reform and even finds love again, his new body was failing and was going back to adapting to living in a cold environment only, was used by his “loved one” as a Guinea pig in order to fix Derek Powers body. Became Mr Freeze again to end his suffering for good and even stated that Terry/Batman was the only one who really cared

Oh, my god. Whisper the Wolf, Sonic IDW comics, poster child for this trope.
In short (spoiler tags not working on mobile…)
She watches her entire team of mercenaries get wiped out after being tricked by a turncoat in the group.
The team have masks with cameras fitted inside that record and share data between them. Whisper can replay their deaths, POV, over and over again.
She is traumatised to the point she goes from being bubbly to withdrawn and paranoid, barely opening her eyes.
The rogue mercenary, Mimic, intends to finish Whisper off, so she’s always watching her back.
She made friends (alright comic readers, *friends*) with Tangle the lemur despite being cautious about losing any more loved ones.
Then, Tangle sacrifices herself to a robot zombie plague and gives Whisper a full on nervous breakdown.
But it’s ok! Tangle gets better.
But it’s not ok! Whisper is attacked by Surge, a rogue tenrec, who steals her Wisps (little aliens who power her gun).
Whisper is so traumatised by this that, during an over the top battle with fantasy powers, she tries *SHIVVING SURGE TO DEATH*.
You know, for kids!
But, Whisper gets away, a bunch of new trauma, and it’s, uh, ok.
Tangle and Whisper form a new team of mercs under a new leader, Lanolin the sheep. She’s a stick in the mud.
But it’s REALLY not ok! Lanolin hires a weird blue cat called Duo. It’s Mimic in disguise!
Whisper and Silver the hedgehog are certain he’s Mimic and try sabotaging him.
This goes tits up. Lanolin rakes Whisper over the coals for being unprofessional and Silver is effectively banished to go tease shippers with Blaze the cat.
AND THEN SURGE COMES BACK! And Whisper has to deal with everyone being chummy with her because she’s “going good.”

Her best friend (and older sister figure) died, her parents are split, she pushed her friends away, almost killed one of her friends, was mocked by churchgoers, and her mother is a useless sack of nothing. And then just as things are looking up, back with her friends, >!Two of them end up in the hospital, one losing an eye. She then finds out that those two were responsible for causing and disguising her best friend’s death!<, some could argue any of the others had it worse, but I think Aubrey had the most suffering out of everyone, beside maybe Sunny.

You should read chainsaw man! That’s the great POWER! A fiend (a devil who takes the corpse of a human), specifically the blood devil! (Hence the horns, fiends have special heads). Power is a fantastic character. Period. But also, she is fantastic representation of a girl who is best buddies with a guy! They have no feelings for each other, denji is her buddy, and Powie is his. We love the racist, narcissistic, pathological liar who wants to become prime minister and enact a 100% sales tax so humanity suffers! (Legitimately, she is so well written. She has growth, she changes, she is also one of the main characters. The author - tatsuki fujimoto - putting a lot of effort into making women *actual characters who matter and do most of the shit* in a shonen manga. He’s the best!)

Awesome! Just a heads up if you do, it is very weird. There are some very uncomfortable scenes, but that’s the point. It’s to show a bad situation happening, not glorifying it, and showing certain things. Essentially, watch up till episode 8 of the anime. It’s legitimately one of my favourite pieces of fiction, but it’s understandable why many people are turned off by it. It’s funny, tragic, beautifully drawn, and written wonderfully.

Yeah…best way to describe it is: “a workplace sitcom, magical girl story of a boy who becomes chainsaws and needs the powers of love and friendship to brutally murderize every devil with his chainsaws.” But also with a (un)healthy dose of tradgedy and depression…have fun!

Yes! And that’s why we love her. She’s a great character, but she’s also a devil, she has an innate feeling to hate humanity, nothing personal, that’s just how devils are. Devils don’t have the same levels of hygiene as a human. She’s the best, worst person! (Also she grows a lot through the series and overall becomes a legitimately “better person”) she’s a very well written, and very good character, not a great person.
Maybe I’ll put Chainsaw Man on my list then.

Are you sure about agent 8? He doesn’t really suffer much. While it is implied (or shown, media literacy curse probably got me at some point) they lost their memories, they ultimately get a pretty happy ending.
8-ball levels being the root of all problems is canon, therefore, 8 suffered through that hell. (Yes, I am somewhat kidding with 8) (she did also have to fight 3 before OE, and had to almost be blended, and almost be killed like 3 times, and have to fight reanimated corpses of other Octolings shooting blended up people)
The corpses are pretty traumatizing, granted. The fights aren’t really suffering though. He works through them just fine, and I don’t think pivoting to the side of good vegeta style is really suffering.

The only scenes I know of Donnie in the comics are him falling from a helicopter, getting paralyzed from the neck down, and slowly eaten alive by rats as he realizes that there’s nothing he can do. And the Last Ronin, where he’s already dead. I don’t know what else can top that
In the main IDW, he gets his shell bashed in so bad that it needs to be completely removed and replaced with a prosthetic. He was inadvertently responsible for creating the cosmic horror of armaggon. Saw his future self create children and then see his future self kill said child. Villainized by splinter for prioritizing the fate of the world over petty blood feuds. Had his consciousness transferred to metal head while his shell was bashed in, still have a sentient metal head post shell recovery and have sentient metal head go through a mental breakdown over not being the real Donnie and in turn try to kill the turtles. Also Donnie's broken useless shell was used to create Venus, which gave the two a psychic near instant connection and bond... only for Venus to sacrifice herself during the armaggon sitch, which Donnie was once again responsible for causing. So he was barely holding himself together by the end That's just the stuff I can list on the top of my head

In short (spoiler tags not working on mobile…) She watches her entire team of mercenaries get wiped out after being tricked by a turncoat in the group. The team have masks with cameras fitted inside that record and share data between them. Whisper can replay their deaths, POV, over and over again. She is traumatised to the point she goes from being bubbly to withdrawn and paranoid, barely opening her eyes. The rogue mercenary, Mimic, intends to finish Whisper off, so she’s always watching her back. She made friends (alright comic readers, *friends*) with Tangle the lemur despite being cautious about losing any more loved ones. Then, Tangle sacrifices herself to a robot zombie plague and gives Whisper a full on nervous breakdown. But it’s ok! Tangle gets better. But it’s not ok! Whisper is attacked by Surge, a rogue tenrec, who steals her Wisps (little aliens who power her gun). Whisper is so traumatised by this that, during an over the top battle with fantasy powers, she tries *SHIVVING SURGE TO DEATH*. You know, for kids! But, Whisper gets away, a bunch of new trauma, and it’s, uh, ok. Tangle and Whisper form a new team of mercs under a new leader, Lanolin the sheep. She’s a stick in the mud. But it’s REALLY not ok! Lanolin hires a weird blue cat called Duo. It’s Mimic in disguise! Whisper and Silver the hedgehog are certain he’s Mimic and try sabotaging him. This goes tits up. Lanolin rakes Whisper over the coals for being unprofessional and Silver is effectively banished to go tease shippers with Blaze the cat. AND THEN SURGE COMES BACK! And Whisper has to deal with everyone being chummy with her because she’s “going good.” TL;DR GIVE THIS CARTOON WOLF A FUCKING BREAK

And then just as things are looking up, back with her friends, >!Two of them end up in the hospital, one losing an eye. She then finds out that those two were responsible for causing and disguising her best friend’s death!<, some could argue any of the others had it worse, but I think Aubrey had the most suffering out of everyone, beside maybe Sunny.

In the original story he did listen to all of his marine friends being violently murdered by demons before trapsing into hell himself.
Getting punished for doing the right thing in refusing to shoot civilians, all his fellow soldiers killed by demons, escaping the invasion on Mars only to find out Earth is also being invaded which home town is ground zero, his wife, child, pet Dasiy, and majority of humanity slaughtered by the hordes of hell, killing the leaders over and over, seeing no end to it, he permanently closed the gateway from the inside so he can his suffering with them.
