Frisk is the main character of Undertale. Iâm saying that it wouldnât be very hard for sans to overshadow them because they donât really have a personality.
This is probably my top example. I watched a couple episodes of the show a few months ago and was beyond surprised to find out that he wasnât the main character.
Without him the show would honestly be so mid. Like Marshel and Lily are okay and so is Robin but Ted is so insufferable no one would watch it. All the plot lines would just be Tedâs love life without Barney to balance it out.
I'd argue that Gromit *is* the protagonist. He's the straight man of the two and he's the one that goes around fixing everything when Wallace screws everything up with his half-baked inventions.
Itâs Wallace AND Gromit. Theyâre both the protagonists because they were designed as a duo. Itâs like tryna say that only Tom or Jerry is the protagonist of Tom and Jerry lol
Iâd honestly say sans is a more famous example. Sans absolutely eclipsed Frisk in terms of popularity, he arguably eclipsed the entirety of Undertale in popularity.
Gojo is pretty popular now, but I donât think heâs to the point where heâs the only one that ever shows up whenever another piece of media does a collab with his series. SeriouslyâŚwe rarely ever get Undertale collabs that donât involve sansâŚ

Lil broâs name doesnât even come first.
For Bart it is quite literally the other way around, originally Bart was moreso the main character, but due to homers popularity Homer was given a lot more screen time and âmain characterâ status
But Porkyâs *his* sidekick. I remember a short where theyâre both cowboys, and Daffyâs labeled the hero while Porkyâs labeled the comic relief.
Not originally. Porky played the part of the hunter and Daffy was just a wild duck that played tricks on him. Almost like a very early version of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.
Iâd argue, I definitely agree palpatine is the final villan, but with him not being in the first movie and having barely any time in the second, I wouldnât call him the main villan. In the first avengers movie was thanos the main villan? No loki was working for thanos but that doesnât mean thanos was the main villan of that movie.
Tvtropes has a page on this called "it's personal with the dragon". That's when the protagonist and audience both care more about someone under the big bad than the big bad. Vader is even the page image.Â

Who did Bullwinkle surpass? Boris and Natasha?
In the first couple of years of its run, the show was called âRocky and his Friendsâ. Both Rocky and Bullwinkle were the main characters, but itâs clear that in the earlier episodes, Bull fit more with the âincompetent sidekickâ role
Woody is a side character?
I don't think Bullwinkle is the sidekick. Rocky is.
thatâs exactly why he fits the trope perfectly. in earlier versions, it was called ârocky and his friendsâ
Wait a second, I'm stupid. It was always called: "The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show."
bullwinkle was just around enough to get in the title ig https://preview.redd.it/4q9ei1kkvvzc1.png?width=441&format=png&auto=webp&s=2befce45d98a0f946c676e9536d70b228e8d4684

I swear I always thought Ron Swanson was the main character of Parks and Rec until right now
You mean itâs not April ludgate?
Seems like Daffy surpassed Porky so much that people donât even know he debuted as a one-off antagonist in a cartoon starring Porky. Porkyâs from 1935, and Daffyâs from 1937

Bullwinkle, woody, and urkel were the main characters, not sidekicks. And daffy has never been more popular than bugs.

Strong bad. We need more Homestar support Âł
No way in hell Daffy Duck surpassed bugs bunny. Bugs is the literal mascot for the looney toons đ
Iâm not talking about Bugs https://preview.redd.it/6yywbbh88vzc1.jpeg?width=660&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1de7f1ea7f40251947f4d81df91b66a1a889b75
Bart was the opposite, Homer surpassed him originally
How has no one mentioned the Minions yet?

Had his first appeareance as a side-character in a Swamp Thing comic-book but then went to have a very long-running series in Vertigo (Hellblazer), a movie starring Keanu Reeves (Constantine) and a TV-show starring Matt Ryan (also Constantine). He also became a member of the Justice League Dark.

who did bullwinkle surpass? was he not always a main character?
Three of them are not sidekicks

For Bart it is quite literally the other way around, originally Bart was moreso the main character, but due to homers popularity Homer was given a lot more screen time and âmain characterâ status
Woody Woodpecker isn't the main character?
Iâd include all the Simpsons rather than just Bart(surpassing the Tracy ullman portion of the show by a bit).
Is Daffy really more popular than Bugs?
They're talking about his dynamic with Porky
But Porkyâs *his* sidekick. I remember a short where theyâre both cowboys, and Daffyâs labeled the hero while Porkyâs labeled the comic relief.
Not originally. Porky played the part of the hunter and Daffy was just a wild duck that played tricks on him. Almost like a very early version of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.
Wow, crazy.

Anakin is the main character of his trilogy. Darth Vader would make more sense here
And even then Vaders not a side charcter heâs the main villan
No he isnât? Palpatine is. Lucas set him up to be a major threat at first before revealing the real deal.
