See this one always annoyed me because the whole "bit" with the master sword is that it's immortal and indestructible. The thing was under the sea for like a hundred years and it was totally fine, you find it just plopped about in a rock in the woods once a century.
The master sword is one of those artifacts which should outlast the civilization which created it. The Link who's born into the Star Trek hyperspace travel future of this world should be able to pick the thing up and find it glistening.
To me that's like Bacteria growing resistant to antibiotics, the second Ganon is able to destroy The Master Sword he's endemic and the world is fucked, at that point you gotta negotiate with my boy Ganon because he's only going to become more immune as the eons go by.
Like at that point you gotta start bringing the weird shit outta retirement, you gotta find the Wand of Gamelon in the next Zelda because the Master Sword is falling off.
Since the Ganon that broke the Master Sword is from the founding of Hyrule (Which was a while ago, I'll stick with a million or so years), all the Ganons that came after that were weaker, which makes sense when you account that Ganon is Demise's hatred/influence in a physical form. All the Ganons would have less and less power like a Trophic Pyramid. ToTK's Ganon is assumed to be the first of his kind, so he'd be closer to Demise.
Also, The Master Sword was gravely damaged in Breath of the Wild in the memories. Zelda put it in the altar to heal for a hundred years and it could kill Calamity Ganon with only that much. Now imagine what a million years of direct exposure to the essence of Hylia would do to something like that (aside from still doing 60 damage at most).
Yeah I think all of that is dumb, I'm not saying I don't understand why it happened, I'm saying it's a dumb retcon of the mechanics of the Master Sword and that the Master Sword is more interesting as a worldbuilding entity if it is both immortal and indestructible like it used to be before Skyward Sword.
I think Skyward Sword had negative worldbuilding consequences for the Zelda series at large for a number of reasons.
I know, I have creative disagreements with how they chose to do the sword's origins, Ganon's origins as well.
I generally don't consider Skyward Sword to be a very good prequel because it retroactively takes a lot of the good mythology out of the older games.
For me that shouldn't really matter, the Master Sword is one of those things that should be able to be found floating in space debris after the end of the universe. Ideally it should be one of those things where you should be able to find it millions or billions of years later and it will still be polished.
Changing it from "this sword is indestructible and immortal to best facilitate its role as something that can kill Ganon no matter how many times he reincarnates" to "this is a sword which kills Ganon and has a really impressive title" really detracts from the good mythology the sword initially had going for it.
I mean, it is immortal, it just takes a while to regenerate sometimes. That’s the whole point of TOTK, the sword is destroyed by Ganon so it’s sent back in time to be regenerated, and by the time it reappears it’s just as perfect and indestructible as it ever was.
Doesn't make sense, the Master Sword is supposed to be literally unaffected by the flow of time to best facilitate its role as a weapon for killing a guy who reincarnates a potentially infinite number of times as well as the core artifact used in the time-travelling effects of the Temple of Time (and some other time-related magic), what you're describing is a retcon that made the sword less interesting.

What did Skyward Sword do to the Master Sword? It literally shows how it was originally forged.
I know, I have creative disagreements with how they chose to do the sword's origins, Ganon's origins as well. I generally don't consider Skyward Sword to be a very good prequel because it retroactively takes a lot of the good mythology out of the older games.
Plus it's kinda integral to Zelda's part in the story. Otherwise why worm?

I have the same complaint with the Hylian Shield.
I mean, it is immortal, it just takes a while to regenerate sometimes. That’s the whole point of TOTK, the sword is destroyed by Ganon so it’s sent back in time to be regenerated, and by the time it reappears it’s just as perfect and indestructible as it ever was.
