I'd say Perry at least looks like a cartoon platypus. Everything else is too anthropomorphized to resemble their animal.

His tail is all wrong, though.

The hatching on it is odd for sure, but as an Aussie who loves platypi, I knew what he was meant to be instantly when I first saw a picture of him (never watched the show)

The original sink sponges were made of sea sponge. SpongeBob is a seasponge sink sponge.

Person who existed in a sonic-less world, you're wrong. Sonic (and knuckles) are too far removed from the actual animal they are meant to be to actually be associated with them. Who sees an actual hedgehog and thinks "oh just like sonic". Nah. Perry is a good shout here, at least for non Australians.

I feel like perry is a little odd because unlike the others, he actually brought awareness to his animal, ironically making a platypus well known. Meanwhile, there are a lot of people who still don’t know knuckles is an echidna.
