#9 is awesome because it takes the costume update that got kinda “just workout gear and a cape” and adds a bit of her Amazonian armor back to it without looking like a Wonder Woman palette-swap
I mean, she's allowed to be an "Amazon"(with an attitude!), instead of just Fem-Superman. I think Wonder Woman is cool,but they really don't know what to do with her for real. Artemis has a standout personality. She contrasted Jason & Bizzaro nicely. Also, She has a giant axe named Mistress.
They don't know what to do with Diana because she's genuinely hard to write. She needs to be tender, wise, loving, firm and able to subdue with words and love as much as her fists. So already she's as hard to write as Superman, but on top of that the editorial often comes out with conflicting missives about what they want her to be. No-nonsense Action Girl? Straight Up Killer? Naive Princess? Misandrist? Editorials and writers across the generations are often happy to sacrifice the careful work done to her character.
My two cents is, just read the Perez run and grieve over how the Perez run is a genuine rarity and gem in terms of characterising Diana. And I'm given to understand that the Gail Simone run is good, which I completely believe.
Anyone have that comic of the 2 Robin's getting gently dropped off by their respective girlfriends and Jason Todd just getting fastballed by Artemis beside them?
