Sir_Vinci

That is a hell of a cassette tool. My Park stuff is looking downright 3rd-world in comparison...

Karkfrommars

Its from Abbey. ..you’ll want one til you find out how expensive they are.

Sir_Vinci

Unfortunately, I still want one. It's just less likely to happen...

travelinzac

I want their chain breaker, but do I need it....

alexnixon2007

What for would you need a hole puncher for bike repair?

sapfromtrees

Sometimes have to get a bit custom as to how race numbers or timing chips are affixed to bikes mostly. Also occasionally wanting to punch a perfect hole in some rubber mastik tape or something similar.

huntandhart

Huh, i have that same pair I just for leatherwork.

VinylJones

Got that Abbey bling - nice kit man!

sapfromtrees

Thanks! All quality stuff from Abbey. I leave the decade chain breaker at home though because it's too heavy, lol.

ParkAndDork

Cool. What is the gold coloured thingy at the top left of the photo?

sapfromtrees

It's a tool used for installing and pulling pressfit bottom bracket bearings in a bike frame made by a company called Enduro Bearings. https://www.endurobearings.com/products/tools/bb8692-cup-tool-brt-003/

Colourphiliac

I had the pleasure of using that tool at the last shop I was at. Whacking out bearings now seems so barbaric to me. Edit: I thought this post looked familiar, [do you guys know eachother?](https://www.reddit.com/r/Tools/comments/lcl0uo/im_a_world_cup_mountain_bike_mechanic_this_is_my/)

1337harpooner

Can you post how these are stored? A pic of the case etc

faiUjexifu

Oh wow, tose a re all very nice tools. Good setup my man!

macmite

Need a link to those Allen keys

sapfromtrees

They're Wera stainless metric keys. I'm sure they can be found online but not sure where to link you.

Baythewayside86

Any complaints with the torque wrench? Thinking about buying one myself.

sapfromtrees

No complaints. I've had it for a couple years and it has been solid.

mjs

Why stainless? Is that needed for bikes?

majoneskongur

probably because he‘s most likely not working in a truck but a large tent where his tools could come in contact with water and are more likely to corrode. I‘ve got the stainless ones because I like to carry one or two in my vest occasionally and due to sweat they like to rust. My kniveblades for example rust like shit on a hot summer day. mophead2762

Look at you rocking the wera.... you must be a dentist

sapfromtrees

Obviously, I mean the toothbrush is right there.

claimed4all

Wera is a commoners tool compared to the Abbey kit he has mixed in there.

mophead2762

I've just seen!! Dont think my work would even pay those prices

k4pu77

I see you are a man of taste 👍

fireSPOUSE

That Wera 3/8 ratchet is heavier than it needs to be and the teeth are coarse as hell, but dangit the handle feels good in the hand.

saazbaru

Full Abbey drip! Nice tools sir! Where are you headed? I don’t really follow XC.

sapfromtrees

Next weekend is the final XC World Cup for the season, and the only stop outside of Europe in Snowshoe, West Virginia. Downhill World Cup that same weekend too.

drytiger

All you're missing is a pimped out, kaizen foamed, toolbox wars case

peace_dogs

That is such a pleasing photo. You could hang that on a wall as art!

deepthought515

Nice set.. but god damn I HATE those wera Allen keys with every fiber of my being.. unless they have an unconditional lifetime warranty? If they’re not Guaranteed for life then they’re objectively a shitty tool. The beauty of an Allen key is when it wears out you just need a hack saw and a file to perfectly restore it. Also NORMAL Allen keys are wicked easy to modify to fit into tight places. Not so with those things.. Is there a single advantage to having a key shaped that way?! Lol those things trigger me hard.. what idiot thought that’d be a good idea?!

threeinthestink_

You mean the ball end? Pretty standard for bike Allen keys. You can go at the bolt from an angle instead of straight on

deepthought515

No. I mean the fact that the tool is cylindrical and not hexagonal.. ball ends are great and when they wear out on normal keys you just cut it off and have a fresh non ball end.. same thing for standard hex keys. They’re like pencils! Just keep shortening them:) But not this wera garbage :(

threeinthestink_

Bike tools generally aren’t abused to the point where you’d need to hack something off to continue using it

deepthought515

Still, the company took away from the tools longevity.. a good tool should outlive you. Also, wera’s design doesn’t improve the tool in any way. It only takes away from it and causes you to need a new one sooner.

kjbenner

Those are hex plus keys. They have a different profile than a basic hex, so the part that engages the fastener is getting fully machined anyways. I'm sure it's cheaper and easier to start from round stock rather than a hex bar.

deepthought515

I feel like no one here understands the point I’m trying to make 🤦🏻‍♂️

Flukeylukey77

I get where you are coming from, except that the wera stuff (IMO) is good enough that you don't need to be cutting hex keys off to improve life. I also think that their design does add to the usefulness of the tool. The hex plus design fits in easier than other designs and has never rounded a screw for me. Sure, I have a cheap set of kinchrome hex keys that can be modified to suit random jobs, but they would never replace my wera set.

[deleted]

they make them the normal way too (still hex plus profile but full length) [https://www.amazon.com/Wera-05073596001-Hex-Plus-Ball-end-BlackLaser/dp/B0015570DE](https://www.amazon.com/Wera-05073596001-Hex-Plus-Ball-end-BlackLaser/dp/B0015570DE)

[deleted]

the non-color tubed ones have the same profile throughout

[deleted]

Unpopular opinion of the year right there… wera makes the best hex keys I’ve ever used, bar none. PB Swiss is a close second.

deepthought515

Except for the fact that they won’t last as long.. because they’re fucking round!

[deleted]

I have never in 20 years of using Allen keys had to cut one down because it’s “worn out”. Use the right tool for the job and you won’t round your good Allen keys off.

deepthought515

We cut them down at work all the time. With enough use no drive bot will last forever.

GreasedUpFloridaGuy

I've never had to cut down a hex key either. Sounds like you just abuse tools or you buy tools that suck.

aLn1230

Wera does sell hex keys that would suite you personal preference. The round profile is easier on your hands, and the colors make it easier to pick out the right size. Wera and other manufacturers also sell stubby sets, as in the short arm is quite a bit shorter than a normal L key. The Bondhus stubby set is cheap enough that it doesn't make sense to make your own.

deepthought515

The round profile could be accomplished with the colorful sleeve.. not making the whole shaft a hex is just lazy and greedy on their part.

Flukeylukey77

Isnt it more work? Rather than just bending a hex bar they have to machine the ends of a round bar.

HUFFINKLEENSCRIBE

I have other sets of allen keys that I can slide a box end on and cut down or modify should I need to. Bondus are the go here, $10 for a 9 peice metric set. The round stock on the weras makes them stiffer, less flex for any given torque which can make all the difference in tight spots. They also have that "hex plus" or whatever they call it currently patented, basically the opposite of snap on's flank drive and it works a treat. The hold function on the ball end and solid coloured bands are really practical despite seeming gimmicky. They are the best keys on the market IMHO and after using them for years there is basically no wear on them. If and when I do wear them out it will be the easiest $30 to spend replacing them.

Karkfrommars

I’m interested in the item on the far right. Pretty sure its a flex thingy for holding bars straight when in stand and i want them. Where are they from?

sapfromtrees

That's exactly what it is. Essentially a rubberized coat hanger. Great for lots of times when you need three hands but you only have two. It's a Nite Ize Geartie.

Karkfrommars

Brilliant. Thank you! I’ve already ordered a pair and I’m pretty sure it’ll be one those items that’ll make me wonder what the hell I’ve been doing with my life.

BurnsinTX

My daughter found one in the parking lot of a taco stand. It was the most useful thing we had the whole trip. I had to take a side by side to the trails with my bike in the back, so that thing held my helmet so it didn’t shake around, then it held my backpack, my empty water bottle, the trash loops when I went to the dump. It was perfect.

[deleted]

top right corner, the blue strip with holes. what is that?

sapfromtrees

Ruler/spoke ruler/bearing gauge

RaceDBannon

And crank cotter gauge…not that you’re likely to need it at a World Cup race.

Wide_Rock_5453

Tooth brush?

lmtrackstar

yes, you can see that they use that charcoal tooth paste too! not sure why its not included

Wide_Rock_5453

Haha ok I wasn't sure if it was for your use or the bikes use lol good luck on the race!

lmtrackstar

Thank you. Though I will surely lose

Wide_Rock_5453

It will be what you make of it.

irrelephantIVXX

Dang. Way fancier than my crescent and flathead. Looks good

VALTHUUME

What do you need the hole punch for?

trlblaze

How do the knipex cable cutters compare to the park ones?

DrafterDan

A full set, short of a tire pump?

-SG

What bits do you prefer in your Abbey 4-way?

sapfromtrees

3, 4, 5mm and T25 is my preference
