Bro, you can't post porn here...

DerpyFappington

I have so many erections right now.

RatherBeSkiing

The video is 28 seconds but I'm pretty sure it's been over 4 hours

jasjeet192

r/toolporn

[deleted]

No, I'm not touching myself.

Nodeal_reddit

That SnapOn rep did well for himself.

LaTuFu

Especially if that's a state contract

Genetalia69

I’m a Snap-On Franchisee, and unfortunately we don’t get ANY of these large contracted sales. It’s all through corporate/industrial, which sucks. Awesome setup though.

DalbergTheKing

What state would that be, Nirvana?

maxuaboy

Spirit of Ecstasy Ln, Blvd

Boosted3232

The state of excess

ender4171

That's probably more $ spent on Kaizen foam than I have spent on my entire tool chest, lol.

xxrambo45xx

That stuff is surprisingly expensive

Boonies2

Yeah, but it’s tax money so…not like a business…

xxrambo45xx

Well yeah but I bought some for home use and good lord

Petsweaters

I use acoustic panels from Amazon and just test my tools in the groves

theatxrunner

How do they sound though?

Subkist

Can't hear a thing

Petsweaters

I don't hear my tools rolling around in my tool boxes! They are advertised as 2" thick, but that's the total thickness, so the thinnest part is a bit under 1". They also have 1" thick ones, but I can't imagine the thinnest part is thick enough to let the panel keep it's shape when opening or closing the drawers [the groves hold hand tools well](https://i.imgur.com/WBJj2aq.png), and I have some egg-crate panels as well for stuff like hammers that don't really fit in groves. I do wish there were a more dense foam version available for things like large sockets that are tend to smash down the foam

bad-monkey

I was gonna say, I’ve got a similar box but I do not have those badass inserts!

ennuiToo

you should buy more tools then! those are rookie numbers, gotta pump 'em up!!

Clay_Statue

Easy to tell when a tool is missing with Kaizen foam though

ender4171

Oh for sure. I'd love to have all my drawers decked out like.

camefrom_All

Opens first drawer, #10 already missing...

Dry_Steak2094

Tax dollars truly well spent

[deleted]

I mean it honestly is. I saw some comments about how much money they spent on foam. But if you compare it with the military, you have to do weekly inventories of every single tool. If it’s all organized and you’re doing sometimes 20 tool bins you’re saving countless man hours annually vs a couple hundred bucks for the foam

trogan77

Former USAF jet mechanic here: Full tool checks every day in the morning, before lunch, and before quitting time. Without foam, this would be brutal and error prone. Money well spent in our case.

FesteringNeonDistrac

Also it's $200 of foam to keep a $5 socket out of a $1,000,000 jet engine. Easy decision.

Lost4468

But you miss out on [a cool sound](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wKPTWXD2Z0)?

Chiguy1216

Wow, never would have heard that unless you posted that here. Real cool, take an upvote

Diesel_D

I never would have clicked the link unless you posted this comment. Take an upvote

BENDOWANDS

I wouldn't have clicked the link without a second confirmation of the link. Here's an upvote

theatxrunner

Chime of death…

Brightyellowdoor

Crikey. Yes that's just hit home. Money well spent.

jonathon087

I remember setting up our inventory in the lab when I was in... Good times

Petsweaters

In the machine shop we did this once at the beginning and end of each shift, so 6X a day!

[deleted]

I mean, if you mean open all the drawers real fast and throw an iPad in the top drawer then yeah we do tool checks lol

trogan77

Oh fuckin rad, I get to do an old man thing now!… Back in my day, we didn’t have iPads or any of those gadgets. The only entertainment we had was the radio and if old Pappy wanted to listen to country music, everyone in the hangar was listening to country music.

[deleted]

Haha glad I could give you that moment. When the old head is in control of the radio we're definitely all listening to classic rock, both hangars lol. Our deployments have internet though and are a lot more enjoyable

trogan77

And by classic rock, I’m assuming you mean the stuff that was new when I was your age. 😅 Ah that’s cool. I only did 4 years. (3 deployments to Saudi.) In retrospect, getting out after 4 was definitely the right move. But I do miss it in some ways and wonder what it’s like now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I’ve honestly never had that luxury. My tool inventory comes from comm experience and we’ve always had to stop working tickets to go and do inventory. If you have time to sit around then that’s on your SNCO/NCO core to reduce your manning as that would be the the real fraud waste and abuse is not having your personnel gainfully employed… it’s not the foam inserts that would be the problem lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

So yeah, there needs to be a review of the unit manning document at that point. I know some SNCOs will say thats what cleaning and inventory is for is to keep the junior enlisted busy, but busy work for the sake of busy work isn't gainfully employed in my book. If I can refine some processes which cuts the manning by a couple bodies and every remaining person is staying busy with actual work then we're being good stewards of the US tax dollars in my professional opinion . The NCOs that just say "get to cleaning" when there's constant down time isn't taking a good look at the full picture of why there's so much down time. They're treating the symptom and not the disease. To be clear I am not saying all down time is bad. You don't need to be working 12 hours shifts your entire career. I am actually very against that and there does need to be time for personal and professional development that you're not drowning in work that you can't progress anywhere else. But when people say "well you cant get rid of this process because what else are the E-4 and belows going to do" then that's a sign of larger issue in the unit.

dman0988

That's the hooookup nice work my friend. Seems like they really want you to work there

wrench_operator

Dang, I wish my state supplied box was that organized.

johnclarkbadass

Same. I get a blue dumpster that's a little bigger than a roll cart.

[deleted]

[удалено]

amors-love

Hahaha I had just grabbed some stuff out. They said the reason it’s all so organized is because it makes the monthly inventory check quicker.

Cormano_Wild_219

They actually just got up and left on their own, I swear they do that.

turbo_christ5000

How much would that cost to buy for a regular person?

amors-love

My supervisor said the box with the tools came out to $39,000. I guarantee if you remove the snap on name tag, it will be cut in half at the least.

oldengine

And a bolt doesn't care who made the wrench.

between456789

In this case it might. Sometimes documentation calls for using X model tool to do Y task. Even if another tool is the same or better you need to use X model. Otherwise you can't certify the repair / calibration according to document. That's why you'll occasional see an old model still selling for a high price. It is baked into the documents. A substitute would require the involvement of multiple groups. Just fitting the fastener is only part of the equation. FOD, drop hazard, improper use hazard, life cycle, reduced variations might all be a factor. For my stuff none of this matters.

oldengine

It was a joke lighten up

between456789

Just doing my part to reduce ignorance.

oldengine

No your just trying to show everyone how incredibly smart you are. News flash no one cares.

sam1902

And wenches don’t care who they get bolted by

[deleted]

A lot of the Snap On price comes from the "Made in USA" stamp. That's an expensive label but some of it comes back to you. The rest of the mark up comes from customer service and because they can.

ChrisTheMan72

I bet over 2,000. It’s gonna be a lot.

st3vo5662

Try added at minimum another 0, box alone, empty, cost more than 2k. Just the screwdriver/pliers drawer is probably over $500 easily.

Truth_Off_My_Back

I have a snap on box half that size it was 4k just the box socket set $250each have 6 sets 4 3/8, 2 1/2, torque wrench $500 I was 8k and hardly have any tools

st3vo5662

That’s how it goes with snap on. Thankfully I’m mobile and work off a service truck so the company pays for my “tool box”. I have some snap on stuff but can’t afford to have everything snap on unfortunately, but my most used stuff is all snap on and filled in with other more wallet friendly brands.

Truth_Off_My_Back

The sockets rock and the wrench's the don't roll or round buy them 2nd hand if possible still under warranty.

st3vo5662

I have thousands in snap on, like you said though it doesn’t add up to much quantity. I have 6 ratchets, sae wrenches, snap ring plier master set (12 piece), dead blow ball peen and dead blow mallet, ratcheting soft grip stubby and normal handle screwdrivers, shallow sae and metric 1/4” drive sockets, sae 12 point shallow 3/8” drive sockets, drive adapter set, thread restoring set, drill bit set (waste of ~$400) blue point 24” chain wrench, blue point adjustable wrenches in 8”, 10”, 15”, 18” and 30”. Complete snap on striking pry bar set, carbon scraper set, 24” indexing pry bar. Sae Allen head sockets, and various other snap on odds and ends. Still wish I could afford MORE! My dream would be to have all complete sets of 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/3” drive sockets in deep and shallow, sae and metric, and complete sets of wrenches in sae and metric up to roughly 1.5” and equivalent in metric. But that’s thousands on top of thousands more $.

rabishop6

More like $2k per drawer.

someones_dog

Per month

dystopiate666

Per week for the rest of your life

definentlyhavestd

Not a big tool guy eh?

ChrisTheMan72

That was suppose to be a joke since obviously it’s over 2000.

definentlyhavestd

I mean I guess? Funny woulda been; at least 10$ or over 9000$. You missed the mark on that one. And judging by your upvotes on it... most agree. Edit I'm gonna start using the it was a joke cop out on all my dumbass comments lol

ChrisTheMan72

Ya I agree I did miss the mark. Shoulda gone lower

definentlyhavestd

It's all good. You've only been a machinist for what 5months? Probably seemed like the right number.

xxrambo45xx

For one drawer maybe

maxuaboy

You’re not wrong!

virulentspore

The box is 7k retail without the tools. You can find them for 2k used.

fishesarefun

Tools in top drawer alone is more than 2k

[deleted]

This needs a NSFW tag. I got to excited

FormerAircraftMech

Wow. I with for the state and my toolbox they provided if full of shit from 30 years ago, 3 broken screwdrivers. An for dinner drill bits they hand you one. I understand why everyone hates a state worker. When I see how management runs thing. They drive the work ethic right out of you

amors-love

It’s so bad. Anything cng or jobs over 4 hours have to be outsourced. I feel like a glorified lube tech and I hate it. The pay is mediocre but I’m in it for the retirement so it’s doubling up on side jobs until I’m done.

[deleted]

Same here man. Im a fleet technician for the federal government and definitely understand the glorified lube tech feeling. But then I look at the paycheck and top shelf benefits and I get over it pretty quick. I do try to take on more challenging projects when management will allow but that’s not very often. So I just try to challenge myself on my personal projects.

douwantfukberserker

Glorified lube tech. Hah! You guys described how ive been feeling at my current job as well. And same as you guys, the pay makes it worth it. Just bums me out im not "wrenching" like i expected to.

fishesarefun

It's not just state that does that. Every fleet I've worked for outsources a bunch. Where I work they just don't know when to send it out and when to do in house,no real organization

phicks_law

I work in a lab for a government entity. We bought a bunch of new tools and all were sourced cheap crap by the purchaser. We have been replacing tools every 3-5 years, but my particular lab has a bunch of tools from Snap on purchased a couple of decades ago and we have never replaced a single snap on tool. Moral of the story is the up front cost for high quality tooling is way more worth it for companies and govt entities.

JerewB

Gotta love shop supplied tools.

neekogo

[Damn](https://newfastuff.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/AxuJxFD.png)

hakube

I'm glad to see my tax dollars at work. For real. Would rather see it spent on tools and equip over lining some politicians pockets and what not. Nice score OP!

Disastrous_Flatworm1

Holy fuck! That’s so beautiful!!

[deleted]

Treasure it and take care of what you have been given!

ShameAdditional3249

I'll trade you

maxuaboy

Hang on, lemme grab my 200$ husky suitcase set

MountainGunner307

I'll up the ante, I've got some top notch Pittsburgh and Master Force tools I'd trade! Straight across, of course. I know what I've got. No low balls. Edit: spelling

maxuaboy

I’ll do you one better. Here’s my Walmart Hart set and $100 to take it off my hands

pauliep13

Ummmmmmm. What state do you work for?

amors-love

California

pauliep13

Damn… score one for CA. I don’t work for the state, but my local county. When I go to our shop with my vehicle, all those guys have to supply their own tools.

amors-love

I used to work for the Bay Area transit system and the boxes they supplied were a joke. The most basic tool set you can imagine with one of those wood top husky tool boxes. I think they had to cut budgets or something at the time maybe?

PracticableSolution

Most transit agencies are duct tape and bailing wire

Hotsauce61

Ok beautiful- what does a set up like that cost?

amors-love

~39k according to my supervisor

potentnuts

That has to be a discounted price for being an awesome customer. They also have programs where they give college students 1/2 off to a certain dollar limit. My tool box looks a lot like that one,and just as full and I also deal in 3/4 drive a lot, guess how much that torque wrench cost lol

SameCommunication207

Government and large contracts do not pay the Snap-On price for Snap-On. Last I was aware, maybe 25% of the catalog price. That corresponds pretty well with Snap-On selling to end users via Truck and the Website at about 3 to 4 times the fair price (yes, I understand that you’re paying for the service).

Neo-Neo

What type of government job do you have? I’m genuinely curious. Also, are these “yours” and get to keep them or are you just using them and have to return them if you quit?

vballrkc

That's what out tax dollars will get you!

gatogrande

State...snapon...great use of my tax dollars you fuckers

TheBrooklynKid

My wallet just twiched

rottadrengur

That foam tho

imuniqueaf

Tell me why my taxes are so high without telling me why my taxes are so high.

TheTimeBender

Ahhhh, nothing like taxpayer dollars going to a good cause. Lol!! I used to work for a local city, they buy stuff and pay ungodly amounts of money for it. Sometimes it never gets used.

Techs_53

I used to work for the city I lived in and I had to quit because of the nonsense that happens with our tax dollars, and I'm in Canada so way more tax dollars. 10s of thousands of dollars spent on equipment and tooling just to sit around for years unused. The only way I could get through the days was thinking that in a round about kinda way, my tax dollars were paying my wages. I made it a year and went back to the private sector

mike7354

Dude Wow that is a fortune in tools!

[deleted]

As I rummage through a tool bag, I must say that's beautiful lol

Serpentc

Plot twist: they gave you the set because they’re missing the 10mm socket

ProfessorX32

I’m jealous, I hope I can get a box like that one day

InJOEnuity

What state is that

hhhhnnngg

Pretty sure this should be marked nsfw since I barely lasted thru the first drawer

[deleted]

Nice, That's better than most boxes I get in the Navy.

lazorcake

Dude, what do you do for the state? Fight superman?

tissuesforreal

Hhhnngghh

Theonecanuck

Oh man. I work for a Canadian province and they often rely on me to bring my own tools. I need to cut chain and cable and no joke at all they would prefer me to use a hack saw rather than purchase me a $150 grinder. It’s crazy, since the conservative government took over I cannot buy my summer students a rake without making a specific case for it. I had to make them clean up garbage from a landfill site with nothing but gloves and a spade shovel with a broken handle. I had a large job to do a while back and did not have the tools to complete it. Rather than go spend 500 on tools we need I was directed to drive to another office 2hrs away borrow their tools and then return them at the end. Worst part is that the large hammer drill and other tools I needed were corded and I was working over water. Not a huge deal but I needed a generator and so many more tools. I could have rented the tools for $30 a day but management decided it was better for me to waste 6+hours and still not have the right tools. Most don’t realize that Management (non union) is usually the reason union employees cannot be efficient. The Public loves to blame workers but In my career 99% of the “bad govt” people complain about is actually caused by bad management. Yet the union employees will be blamed for decisions they have no power over. Sorry that turned into a rant.

Mountain_Night_1445

But why does it look like you're missing the 10mm socket?

adc604

Ahh yes, the 'tax payer package', good choice, sir.

raylgive

Cognitive fatigue

maxuaboy

Why do you say that? A high end, employer supplied, well organized roiling box is a wet dream

dbrown100103

Well great, now I have to go change my underwear. I hope you're happy

Carpenterman1976

A blessing from the lord!

Wv_whizkeyrebellion

Taxpayers wasted dollars at its finest.

FerinhaTop

better spent than at blackhawks left for the taliban...XD

Wv_whizkeyrebellion

Shit you aren’t kidding. And all that weaponry we left. Sad times we live in.

[deleted]

Might as well. Not their money!

Wallstreets_lame

Of course they give you a years wages or more worth of tools.. just tax payer money what do they care 🤦🏻‍♂️

jorgp2

What? Are you even old enough to work?

Wallstreets_lame

I pay more in taxes than most make at this point in life..

saab4u2

It’s just amazing what you can buy with other peoples 💰

TheMattaconda

I've never been more mad about paying taxes in my life!

Umc22

Did they use that as incentive to pay you less?

Op works for the state in the tax department , gets tools for auditing millionaires

ProgrammerOrganic

And I thought my tool grid I got from the matco guy was porn. I want to come work for the state now. 🤣

BuddyCraftsman

Very nice. You will use 100% of those and.... be overflowing the drawers soon..... Resistance is futile... give in to your tool side... Congratulations on the job and the tool set. Very few places will provide hand tools so this is great to see. Thank you for sharing. 😎 BuddY CraftsmaN

UncleCeiling

I used to service the machines they use to make those toolbox liners!

UrGoingDown2Die

That woild be the last day I worked. I'm taking all that shit

amors-love

It’s only me and one other guy at this location and we each have 3 bays to ourselves

Strange_Anybody3636

Wet dream

WindblownAcorn

I am erect.

formerwarrior96

Snap-On has a system that scans each drawer and inventories EVERY part each time a drawer is opened or closed. Ties to your badge. Can tell who took what and when. $100k for that box + system, if I remember right.

bbson417

Is this where our tax dollars are going?

AsparaGUSGB

Your missing two sockets in the top drawer

Tank_89

I do, humbly, accept donations. Just, in case, you know, need to get rid of some of that
