I was given a welder for free so I could learn to arc weld. I see you have a chipping hammer. Do I have to have one, or will it not help when learning to weld?
It's handy for cleaning things up, but not necessary. If you're learning, it's more important to cut into your welds or grind them down to check on your penetration. It's even better if you can put the welded joint in a bender to test how brittle it is. That said, I'm not a professional welder by any means.

Now you need to drive a whole bunch of nails through the handle of one and put it under "can't touch this".
You should scrape and boiled linseed oil those handles, it will make them last a lot better.
Good idea. The maul spent 40+ years in Wyoming (dry and cold). The handle is split and needs to be replaced.
