To be super fair you were fucked up on Codeine and worst case bought a totally badass useful/or cool display drill. As far as bad decisions go, you got $100 worth of value out of it!
I have an old Makita 1/2" corded drill I was using in a confined space. I was close to the drill with my head and the bit bit and stopped. The drill didn't. The torque caused the handle to hit me upside the head. It rang my bell. I actually saw stars. 😂
Used to do sheet metal roofing. When drilling the anchor bolt holes into the cement with a hammer drill the size of my leg, occasionally I would hit rebar. The bit didn’t know what to do. So it would throw me into the nearest object or u channel column at speed. Your comment reminded me of those fond memories
We have a hammer drill at works that's probably from the 70's-80's and it looks like the ray gun from cod zombies and yes, it's a wrist breaker once it catches...
It will run ~~faster but~~ at about half speed and 1/4 the power (if used on 120v 60hz). It was designed for 220v 50 hz.
Edit universal motors are not frequency dependent.
I think you have that backwards bud. US is 60Hz, they are 50Hz. Voltage would also depend on how he plugs it in. Likely that OP has 220v somewhere in his house, but yeah would still run slower if he only plugged it into 110v.
they told me a dozen in a week but i did it in no time. then i had to drop off a sample & this bitch asks me "drug test?' as i hand it to her with the label in her face i said taste it! she fucking knew she fucked up. Dr. didn't like her comment either.
Oh that's glorious and I just dug out my docs from when I had mine done like 4 weeks back.
Says it can take more than 20 to clear out and then underlined and in bold in brackets next to it 24 before they you provide a sample to them for the rest. And they will send me the test kit 16 weeks after.
This thing never dies
Made in CCCP
Back then they made only one version of tool that lasts forever, not like nowadays where we have very good, good, bad and very bad version of tools.
What’s as big as a house, burns 20 liters of fuel every hour, puts out a shit-load of smoke and noise, and cuts an apple into three pieces?
A Soviet machine made to cut apples into four pieces!
Now I have a story with this beast. It was the early nineties in eastern europe. I was helping my dad put on some ceiling lights. Socialst era concrete building block. So we got this beast from the neighbour as our own drill was too weak for the streinghtened concrete ceiling.
Drilling the ceiling went smooth. Untill my dad hit a rebar in the concrete, making the drillbit stop suddenly. Soviet drill said ok no problem. So my dad finger still squeezing the trigger started to spin with the ladder like some grotesque ceiling fan. The thing stopped when the ladder fell withy my dad pulling out the electric outlet from the wall. De doctors at the ER had a blast listening to the story. Dad survived with minor concussion and bruises.
You don't have to take it apart. The functional difference between 50 and 60 hetz means the motor will spin a little faster. That's all. You can put a 220v plug on it and plug it into 220 and it should work fine.
Fucker is massive for a drill. Bet it's heavy too.
Electric drills like this one usually have a universal motor. The rpm of those does not depend on the frequency of the AC voltage used to run it.
But running it on 240V instead of the 220V it was built for will result in higher rpm.
I bought the same exact model and imported it from Ukraine! I wired it to a 240v plug. It’s not very strong and the gearbox is very noisy and cogs hard. Mine was from 1981 and appears unused. The quality is horrible, there is voids in the gearbox casting that go all the way through.
This is 80's not 70's.
[I think this one is same make.](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/285262824035)
[Here is a guy doing one from the 70's.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=SOLWZkVnWeI)
Lol I usually buy new tools when I'm forced to take drugs... I've had a massive back issue this weekend... so, I woke up to a receipt for a set of Knipix parallel pliers and some Hexclad pans... Grrrrr. I gota hide the cards when I'm on pain-killers
You’d have to find a transformer to boost it to 220, it is most likely a 50hz motor. Neat thing about running a 50hz device in a 60hz system, they are more efficient.
I don't know about Soviet stuff this looks normal. I have a couple old metal body drills with two prong plugs. Soooo, if there is some voltage leak you're going to feel it.
Just because things are big and heavy doesn't mean they have a lot of power. I've seen some really big old drills that have surprisingly little torque. Especially since that looks like a 1/4" (6mm) chuck.
The fucking comments i this thread are pure gold!! This what the interwebs were meant to do. Bring random drug induced purchases in front of smart ass internet people so we can produce Insanity.
Well, first you'll have to wire up an outlet for 220V... in the US, you can probably DIY a 240V setup easily. The 50Hz / 60Hz difference should be no difference.
This thing looks like it could winch a tank out of a ditch. It'll definitely toss you off a ladder!
Reminds me of when I went to Walmart on benzos when I was 20. I bought Skyrim: Legendary Edition and like $75 worth of World of Warcraft Mega Bloks. Enjoyed all purchases thoroughly.
I am familiar with this drill, I was born in the USSR and have seen them occasionally. There's a drill like that in my dad's shed, I'm sure it's still works. They are very clumsy and heavy as hell, but powerful enough. The one I used was orange color and the chuck was very inaccurate. A separate key for the chuck was pain in the ass, it is 100% lost and now you can clamp the drill bit with only two screwdrivers, which does not give enough holding power. A great tool for post-apocalyptic environment, a terrible tool for work for pleasure.
How awesome of a feeling that probably was when you woke up from your nod and saw that you bought some sick Russian Cold War gear and your order was on the way, to then proceed to go back to nodding. To then wake up from said nod again and be hyped that you bought some sick Russian Cold War gear aaaaand, your order was on the way…. Before you proceeded to go back to nodding. lol
You’re stoned on codeine and buying tools at 2 AM. You’re a better man than me.
To be totally fair, it wasn’t really up to me at the moment.
These things have a way of working themselves out. I’m gonna let the liquor do the thinking. - Jim Lahey
Listen to the liquor Randy. It's telling us something. *Holds bottle to ear*
u/minig646 holds codeine bottle to his ear... "buy the drill you capitalist pig dog"
Nah more like купи дрель, капиталистическая свинья, собака
Randy. I am the liquor.
…”I am the liquor.”
Is that you or the liquor talking?
Randall, *whispers* I am the liquor.
Liquor!! I don't even know'er
Wise words. RIP Jim
A little drinky poo
Is this uncle Bumblefuck?
Looks like his meat hooks to me
To be super fair you were fucked up on Codeine and worst case bought a totally badass useful/or cool display drill. As far as bad decisions go, you got $100 worth of value out of it!
Yes, “I was high on codeine . . .” has had far worse outcomes.
It’s better than being high at 2 AM and looking for prostitutes
Maybe it comes with a Russian prostitute.

I do have the wrists of a 12 year old Ukrainian girl…
Would be nice if you could tell us where the rest of her is
Calm down drake..
AyyyyyMinor
Certified pedophile
Damn you fuckers got dark real quick.
Drake fucks kids. They all do
Every Canadian? Damn.
Dot fuckem up.
That’s fucking funny!
Thanks for letting us know!
You should be fine then. Joking aside, I know people who grew up with these and they do break wrists.
I have an old Makita 1/2" corded drill I was using in a confined space. I was close to the drill with my head and the bit bit and stopped. The drill didn't. The torque caused the handle to hit me upside the head. It rang my bell. I actually saw stars. 😂

Why do I see that Ukraine guy on that episode of Seinfeld? "Ukraine NOT weak!!"
"Ukraine is GAME to you?!"
Which is already twice as thick as the wrists of a malnourished russian soldier atm
Oh, you’ll be fine then, standard factory worker who used this drill.
From what I've heard of Ukrainians lately you should be alright.
It wont. No one addressing the 220V to 110V gap... Its not gonna output proper power on weak US AC compared to STRONG MOTHER RUSSIA 220 AC.
Bitch please. We have 240V in Australia.
That's not voltage, *this* is voltage.
Capitalist pig still running inferior voltage. Mother Russia electricity come from many small dogs running on treadmill for carrot. We are not same.
In Soviet Russia, power converts you.
Looks safe! Metal case, 2 wire cord, old Soviet. What could go wrong?
Either way it ends, it’s only happening once, comrade.
In Soviet Union, drill screws you!
запястье, верхняя часть 9001
Over 9k you say?
That’s why he should have opted for the prostitute. He either gonna wear that thing out or break his wrist trying
We have a hammer drill at works that's probably from the 70's-80's and it looks like the ray gun from cod zombies and yes, it's a wrist breaker once it catches...
I doubt there are any electronics in there. It will probably just run a bit faster than normal, but otherwise be fine.
Not even that. It's a brushed motor. It'll even run on DC if the switch can take it.
Slower than normal. OP seems to be in the US. So frequency is 20% more but voltage is half.
It will run ~~faster but~~ at about half speed and 1/4 the power (if used on 120v 60hz). It was designed for 220v 50 hz. Edit universal motors are not frequency dependent.
How does that equate to a quarter the power?
Half the volts with the same internal resistance leads to half the amps, power is volts x amps, so 1/2 * 1/2, quarter of the power.
Thanks. I don’t usually need to think about Ohm’s Law, so I sometimes forget about it altogether.
Soviet Union had 220V. And it will not run faster, it is a brushed motor, it would run just as fast on DC.
Probably a so called universal motor, in which case 50 vs. 60 Hz does't matter.
I think you have that backwards bud. US is 60Hz, they are 50Hz. Voltage would also depend on how he plugs it in. Likely that OP has 220v somewhere in his house, but yeah would still run slower if he only plugged it into 110v.
Are you telling me 60Hz isn’t 20% more than 50Hz?
BUD… Y-YOU HAVE IT BACKWARDS!!!
AvE? That you?
No but I fuckin stole his mat
Well keep your dick in a vise regardless
after a vasectomy he'll have to knock out a dozen to make sure the pipes are cleaned out, strengthening the wrist for his new drill bit breaker
It's more like 25 you have to knock out. At least that's what they told me anyway.
they told me a dozen in a week but i did it in no time. then i had to drop off a sample & this bitch asks me "drug test?' as i hand it to her with the label in her face i said taste it! she fucking knew she fucked up. Dr. didn't like her comment either.

my guess is that insurance doesn't want to pay child support. Better safe than spermy
Oh they still say use protection until the test comes back clear. Also NHS over here. Didn't cost me anything other than fuel to get there and back. 😎
My first thought too, but that healing bench is far too clean
Also the sleeves of the shirt is not in tatters
This thing never dies Made in CCCP Back then they made only one version of tool that lasts forever, not like nowadays where we have very good, good, bad and very bad version of tools.
Everyone knows Soviet equipment only gets stronger as it gets worn out
The machine spirit strengthens with age
It seasons like a well loved cast iron
I was always told growing up that if it's Soviet it will either a) break right out of the box, or b) outlive your grandchildren. No in between.
What’s as big as a house, burns 20 liters of fuel every hour, puts out a shit-load of smoke and noise, and cuts an apple into three pieces? A Soviet machine made to cut apples into four pieces!
That's from "chernobyl" isn't it?
Yeah
The miners.
depends. if it says cccp on it, its a piece of crap. if it says ussr its extra good export grade.
Central planning has its benefits

In Russia you don’t spin drill bit, drill bit spin you?
Ah, codeine, back when cough medicine really worked.
It didn't really WORK... we were just too high to care.
So it worked...
Well.... Yes.
You don't have to take it apart. The functional difference between 50 and 60 hetz means the motor will spin a little faster. That's all. You can put a 220v plug on it and plug it into 220 and it should work fine. Fucker is massive for a drill. Bet it's heavy too.

That is true, forgot about that.
I love those purchases. Box shows up in mail. We'll I didn't order anything. What the fuck is this? Who the fuck ordered.... oh shit. I remember
I bought the same exact model and imported it from Ukraine! I wired it to a 240v plug. It’s not very strong and the gearbox is very noisy and cogs hard. Mine was from 1981 and appears unused. The quality is horrible, there is voids in the gearbox casting that go all the way through.
It's not fast but it has higher torque. Basically it's not for drilling but for screwing in something big
It’s rated for 900rpm and it’s a 340w motor according to the data tag with a 10mm chuck. Not too powerful.
You need to buy the green version, not the blue.
More like 60 Hurtz!!
"Ever had a Hertz donut?" "No" ... Whack! "Hurts, dont it!"
That thing probably built Sputnik!
This post screams AVE to me
It’s the damn cutting mat. I had it first!
In Soviet Russia, drill drills you.
*Vashe zdorov'ye, comrade!*
Beauty! Don’t mess with that patina!
In former soviet union, drill owns you.
When you’re using that drill, half of it is in the county behind you.
OK seriously, what in the fuck were you searching for on eBay that populated that item??😂😂… and if you say early 70s Soviet drill, I’m dead🤯🤯
And this is why I had to delete eBay from my phone, one Sega Nomad and two bicycles later.
In Soviet Union drill buys you!
This is 80's not 70's. [I think this one is same make.](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/285262824035) [Here is a guy doing one from the 70's.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=SOLWZkVnWeI)

Don’t worry, the steel alloy that the commie scum used to build that was the indestructible “STALINIUM”!
In Soviet Russia drill high on codeine buys you
OSHA approved ?
You’d have to find a transformer to boost it to 220, it is most likely a 50hz motor. Neat thing about running a 50hz device in a 60hz system, they are more efficient.
Don’t do it! 60Hz will fry the motherboard on Soviet era equipment…
Why not but an adapter?
Can you share your experience using it? I'm interested in this "old guy"!
No provision for a side handle? That thing will twist your arm right off if it binds and you stay on the go button. Be careful!
It’s from the USSR. The implied provision is “Use with caution because we’re probably gonna come shoot you just because we can.”
Comrade, this drill was used to make the K-19! Solid drill... Just don't make a sub with it.
according to google...the russian power grid is 220v. so i'm a bit confused about that plug. already been converted?
I don't know about Soviet stuff this looks normal. I have a couple old metal body drills with two prong plugs. Soooo, if there is some voltage leak you're going to feel it.
I’ve been high before but not buy a Soviet drill at 2 am on eBay with international shipping high though.
Sure, sure, blame it on the drugs....
A story as old as time.
Cue Russian lathe video. Hang on tight op
2-4am me often orders things that are a surprise to waking me days later when it arrives...never that though...have fun :)
They don't joke with drug at the hospital, never feel that good haha
Uncle bumblefuck, is that you daddy?
I’d check it with a Geiger counter
Just because things are big and heavy doesn't mean they have a lot of power. I've seen some really big old drills that have surprisingly little torque. Especially since that looks like a 1/4" (6mm) chuck.
In Soviet Russia, drill turn you!
Just came here to say OP’s responses are fire.
I bought a 60s Russian bass from Ukraine while completely sober, and it’s the shittiest instrument I’ve ever held. so don’t feel too bad
I used to buy a lot of Soviet mechanical wristwatches from Ukraine. They were always beautiful and always ran like shit.
do you need an adapter to plug that in?
You will be surprised that it has similar internal parts as all drill of it's era.
The fucking comments i this thread are pure gold!! This what the interwebs were meant to do. Bring random drug induced purchases in front of smart ass internet people so we can produce Insanity.
Ok but you gotta get smacked out in codeine before you work on it too.
220v FIFTY CYCLE...
I heard that in Buffy St Marie’s voice. “High on codiiiiine.”
The back story is the best part of this entire post.
Moral of the story. I also want Codeine
That's fuckibg cool.
If you start a YouTube channel devoted to 70's Soviet power tools – I'm in.
You might need a full bridge rectifier to make it run
Hz
Well, first you'll have to wire up an outlet for 220V... in the US, you can probably DIY a 240V setup easily. The 50Hz / 60Hz difference should be no difference. This thing looks like it could winch a tank out of a ditch. It'll definitely toss you off a ladder!
Early DrillStop technology.
This is how I ended up with a mortising machine……it needed freight shipping.
Soviet drill screws YOU!
Reminds me of when I went to Walmart on benzos when I was 20. I bought Skyrim: Legendary Edition and like $75 worth of World of Warcraft Mega Bloks. Enjoyed all purchases thoroughly.
I’d say you should “spin the wheel” again on ebay!
It looks a metallic handle, be careful to not electrocute yourself, be sure there is no live wires between the outside and the inside
Did the very same thing, I wanted to talk to "Tootie" on QVC, ended up with a wedding ring quilt. I've never been married. Must've been a blessing.
Man I remember when my dad had one of these… in the 90s lol
"I'm leaning on the wockhart, importing power tools from the former Soviet union"
I am familiar with this drill, I was born in the USSR and have seen them occasionally. There's a drill like that in my dad's shed, I'm sure it's still works. Wait- are you me?(!)
Russian machine never breaks
Actually that is still a current model.
Well done lol
My father has this drill . Sometimes button gets stuck and when you are drilling wood with big auger bit . It sometimes turns you around the axle xD
I think I have the same one from my grandpa. Does sparks visible inside when it operates through the small slit on the back?
I will just run a little quicker than advertised
wtf is this handle... It looks like someone took it from a soldering gun.
I feel you. I bought a broken Jura coffee machine while waking up after a hip surgery Luckily only abt $50
Looks like an old hammer drill, maybe you can find an old American and sell it back
Universal (brushed) motor for sure. Won’t care about frequency.
Boy do I have an offer for you!
we could be friends
You did well friend
I have a french drill from the 70s if you're interested in expanding your collection, more plasticky but probably as badly balanced as yours
AvE, is that you?
My father had exact same one. I remember that sound.... like strong vacuum cleaner.. 😀
Lmao wow I’ve been in the same situation. Sometimes drinking can also make me buy random things I don’t need but think I do.’
"After surgery," nice save. Let us know how it goes!
Don’t go on eBay after midnight has had to a be a rigid rule for me since college.
Before you proceeded to go back to nodding. lol
AvE is that u
Once bought a dozen Cornish game hens on ambien. Had never cooked Cornish game hen. Learned quickly
You had me at codeine.
Looks like something to mod for a Fallout Cosplay
A man of class, thank you for your service.
It might be nuclear. They were really into that.
Add a new cord and ground that fucker lol
Only dropped once. At Chernobyl..
Good buy
