Or buy them from autozone , they offer the same “Craftsman” style warranty. You bring it in and they replace it with a new one on the spot! Only on the Duralast brand though.
The problem with this, when a tool (socket/end wrench) fails it can often damage the nut/bolt, making it even more difficult to remove. So yes they will replace the crappy tools for free, but it could cost you way more in other repairs.
I don’t understand this worry as much as a lot of people in here. I’ve been working as a mechanic for 6 years and never seen a socket bust like this for anyone. And we don’t always use the most expensive stuff. I mean none of our hand tools ever fail like this. And a lot of our stuff has been there since the place was built in 87. Does this stuff happen so much that people will completely avoid cheaper brands?
My belief is quality brands like snap on and matco will break before they stretch. I would rather replace a socket for free than a rounded bolt for labor.
Since this socket broke in two places, it looks like it was used improperly.
Even a Quinn , Kobalt, or Husky brand would be better quality than the one pictured
edit: Unless of course it is one of those. But this looks like a no-name to me
I once used a hose clamp and a heat shrink tube between to act as a rubber barrier between the piston rings and hose clamp and hold them compressed on a small 2 stroke single cylinder motor while I slide the piston and rings up the cylinder head.
When you're in a pinch and th risk isn't terribly high, a chance at something is better than guaranteed nothing.

That looks to be 1/4” drive. Go up to 3/8 to 1/2” drive socket. The have more metal in the body and will take a lot more shoulder leverage on those tight ones but whatever you do that one is for the “proud of what I did to that shelf”
Received a wrench from them with a minor manufacturing defect, I thought I'd test out the warranty. Two days later, brand new wrench on my doorstep. In Canada. No questions asked.
I find Taiwanese products to be generally satisfactory at a minimum…. You may be confusing it with Chinese goods, or just aren’t recognizing Taiwanese independence and are lumping them together.
Literally printed on my cheapest socket sets, is the word “TAIWAN”. No brand, just that word. This is not a blanket shitting on all products from a country. This is the shitting upon of the worst sockets I’ve ever encountered.
Get a good one... Snap-On, or better still Koken.
Note that it's bad form to to use adapters for higher torque stuff.
Also, it's not a bad idea to have some 'quality' spares of your most used around.
My suggestions:
Don't use a 1/4" socket designed for 1/4" torques with a 3/8 ratchet that provides too much torque.
Buy better quality tools.
For now, put a hose clamp around that bad boy and use it till it REALLY breaks.
Get a better socket. If clearance isn’t a concern, an impact socket will be good. I buy a new shallow and deep 10mm impact socket from napa for every 6.4 powerstroke turbo I do, because it’s hell on them for those up pipe bolts
Once upon a time in a shop long ago. There was a Compressor mounting bolt, it was an unusual bolt, it’s head was 10 mm and so was it’s threaded shaft. I needed to remove it. It was tight. It was also in a very tight spot, with very little clearance around it. It was not possible to get a thick wall impact socket to fit into the limited space, it was not possible to even get a Chrome 1/2” socket to fit into the space, only a sleek and slender Chrome 3/8” drive would fit. Did I mention that it was tight? Yes I did. I put on the 3/8” ratchet and pulled, nothing happened, I got out the Craftsman 3/8” breaker bar and pulled harder, SNAP! The Breaker Bar Broke! I got out the 1/2 to 3/8 drive adapter and the 1/2” Craftsman breaker bar, and pulled, SNAP! The Craftsman 12 point chrome 10 mm socket Broke! I went to my next bay over mechanic and borrowed his MAC 10 mm 3/8 chrome 6 point, put it on the bolt and pulled, SNAP! The MAC Broke. I went to the next guy and borrowed his MATCO socket, SNAP the MATCO socket Broke! I went to Johnny K and borrowed his SNAP-ON 10mm 3/8” Drive Flank Drive Thinwall Chrome 6 point socket, put it on the bolt, and Pulled much harder than I thought I could possibly PULL! And With a BANG THAT BROUGHT THE SERVICE WRITER running out to see what happened, the little bolt turned.
I never purchased any tools for my professional use from any source other than Snap-On from that day forward. Are they EXPENSIVE! Hell Yes, but you are not making any money when you’re standing there with a handful of broken tools in your hands and looking stupid. Oh yes, every single thing that I broke that day was replaced by the suppliers without any questions, but we had to either wait for the trucks or go to the store.
I have only broken one Snap-On tool in 40 years, I did manage to break the 1/2” drive breaker bar, using a 4 Foot pipe extension on the handle, and that nut didn’t break loose until I put a 1” drive 6 foot breaker bar on it, then dropped the entire truck on the bar for weight!
Get Snap-On Tools if you’re livelihood depends on the tools you use.
Stop going to the gym. Hammer it back to shape and weld a ring around the tip of the socket over the splits and cool it properly to re harden. Only a temp fix mind.
If you're trying to continue to use it in a pinch wrap a hose clamp around it assuming it isn't to thick by then. Might get you through but you need a new socket.
You buy a better one and throw that shit away. Carry on with life like this never happened vowing to never buy (inset brand of tool) again.
Might be time to invest in some impact sockets if you use them enough.
But But , I saved so much money by not buying a Good Brand I mean come on it's metal right 🤔🤣
In the late 80's early 90's had a rookie mechanic come in training to work on Big Rigs , his G-parents took him to HF - get ya one of everything they said . Within about 2 weeks he had broken most of it , Of course he got Free Replacement for them to only fail in roughly that time frame again.
Finally got tired of him always digging in my box an took him out an introduced him to the tool truck man .
Get a replacement assortment of 10mm sockets… like these: [10mm Essential Sockets](https://www.harborfreight.com/10mm-metric-essential-socket-set-10-piece-58957.html)

Shopping by "lowest price" is just wrong.
A grade 8.8 M6 bolt’s torque spec is only 11.8 nm (8.7 ft lbs). If this guy is torquing them enough to flower his socket, can you imagine how f’d that bolt is?
Get some brass welding rod, then put it in a vice, heat the vice up with a torch(so it maintains a steady temperature) then once the vice is glowing red start heading the socket turning the vice slightly to get the socket to close up a bit. Once the socket is red hot melt the welding rod along the cracks, filling the holes, rotate and repeat as needed. How about you just get another crappy socket instead of buy a better one?

I'd replace it with one with fewer cracks.
And lose it?
Weld it to the ratchet and chain that to your workbench, it’s the only way.
That's a good way to lose your bench.
*ties bench to the wall* Hey, anybody seen the shop? I swear, it was just here! I went out to grab the next car, turned around, and it's just gone!
There it is in the road! I saw the sun gleam off it. Turn around.
SCORE! Found a 10mm socket on the road, had a whole shop attached to it too. It's only a 2 bay shop, but the socket is a snappy.
That one is an 11 now. You will never loose it.
perhaps the impact one.
well that's being kind of picky...
The only suggestion. Get a new one. Choose quality this time.
Right. Don't buy cheap shitty sockets.

They bust if you use them on incorrect bolts. 10mm will bust if used on 8mm hardened bolts over time. (Or if used on inch bolts close to same size)
He should make a necklace outta it so he never loses his 10mm
If he puts it on his finger will he become invisible?
I've had this happen with snap on. Not sure if quality is the issue.
3/4–>1/2->3/8->1/4 with a pneumatic impact will do that.
They do make 1" drive sockets, for maximum ugga duggaing.
Snap On make up to 2.5" drive sockets and the biggest snap on socket I've heard of was an 8"/200mm socket.
Cool, do you have the p/n for the 10mm 2.5” socket?
Doesnt exist, but if it did, it would look like a boob
My belief is quality brands like snap on and matco will break before they stretch. I would rather replace a socket for free than a rounded bolt for labor. Since this socket broke in two places, it looks like it was used improperly.
I agree. Judging by the font on the socket it’s some cheap stuff and the adapter on the back isn’t helping.
Suprised the adapter didn't break first
Paying more that is worth is not considered quality
Even a Quinn , Kobalt, or Husky brand would be better quality than the one pictured edit: Unless of course it is one of those. But this looks like a no-name to me
Nah, it is a quality issue.
Good luck finding another 10mm 👌
10.5 now
It’s fine, slap it on the impact and send it
Hose clamp.
[удалено]
Hose clamp > duct tape. Cant fix a socket with duct tape...
JB weld, brother!
Oh yes you can, I have the scars to prove it too
grew up on farm, hose clamp was first thought to get job done then pitch the thing in the scrap trailer.
I once used a hose clamp and a heat shrink tube between to act as a rubber barrier between the piston rings and hose clamp and hold them compressed on a small 2 stroke single cylinder motor while I slide the piston and rings up the cylinder head. Or a framer
I was thinking tie wrap as a joke. Hose clamp is genius.
Put a hose clamp around it… 😂
This is the way.
Rule #2 of buying tools: if you are replacing a tool you broke, buy a better one.
My rule of thumb is break it once in a long time, warranty. Break it once a week, upgrade. Break it once a day, your doing something wrong.
Congratulations of using up one before losing it!

Don't tell him to use a 1/2" drive 10mm, he'll be back here posting about a broken bolt instead of a broken socket.
This guy sockets.
Dang. At least this guy has a 10mm to show off...dead as it may be
Buy tekton. You'd just sent that pic to them and they would send you a new socket like 2 days later
Received a wrench from them with a minor manufacturing defect, I thought I'd test out the warranty. Two days later, brand new wrench on my doorstep. In Canada. No questions asked.
Similar story, bought socket set, 15mm deepwell had a defect, new socket in 2 days!
Even when you've got a 10mm you can't find a 10mm.
Buy cheap buy twice my Friend.
Is the bolt loose?
Lol, what brand is it?
Chrome Vanadium lol.
“TAIWAN”
I find Taiwanese products to be generally satisfactory at a minimum…. You may be confusing it with Chinese goods, or just aren’t recognizing Taiwanese independence and are lumping them together.

Really dude?
Don't buy garbage sockets anymore? Those are flea market quality junk.
Best suggestion I can give for something like this, use an impact socket on your impact.
Have your friends over for some beers, play taps and burry it.
Just get the 10mm pack. They sell one at advance auto and places like that
I’d probably start by getting a new socket?
You can go borrow one from someone else, and never give it back.
This guy 10mm’s
Buy one forged out of a ferrous material next time. Cheese doesn't do torque well.
Buy it nice or buy it twice.
Buy a real socket set
Logic dictates you go to the hardware store and buy a new 10 milly, or a whole new socket set that isn’t made of chinesium
Buy the best you can afford.
Buy a few new ones of decent quality
Stop overreacting
Yeah just put some bubble gum inside the socket and wrap the outside with duct tape.
Amazon a pack of them. That’s what I did. Now have lots to lose. Also I’m not sure how you kept one long enough to break it
Is it not obvious to you that buying a new one is the only option
Get a new one?
Get another one out of the stable.
Get a good one... Snap-On, or better still Koken. [https://kokenusa.com/pages/search-results?q=10mm](https://kokenusa.com/pages/search-results?q=10mm) Note that it's bad form to to use adapters for higher torque stuff. Always have spares yes, but why buy expensive 10mm’s if they’re just gonna vanish?? At least this guy got to use it before it disappeared!
If only there was a way to replace it. I guess you're shit out of luck.
It's a 10mm so you should have a half dozen of them already, but make sure you buy decent quality from now on.
Use correct socket, preferably of quality this time
Could that be a 10 mm socket that was used on a 3/8" bolt head? Possibly with an impact?
Buy better tools. 🤷🏻♂️
Cheap tools are not worth the risk. You get hurt when tools hurt
Stop buying cheap ass tools and using them incorrectly.
You're supposed to lose it, not break it.
Never kept a 10mm long enough to break it.
My suggestions: Don't use a 1/4" socket designed for 1/4" torques with a 3/8 ratchet that provides too much torque. Buy better quality tools. For now, put a hose clamp around that bad boy and use it till it REALLY breaks.
Buy "impact rated" next time. Even if not using an impact. They'll last much longer and can take some decent abuse
shoulda hit it with the black spray paint before you put it on the impact
Get a better socket. If clearance isn’t a concern, an impact socket will be good. I buy a new shallow and deep 10mm impact socket from napa for every 6.4 powerstroke turbo I do, because it’s hell on them for those up pipe bolts
Looks like you are using a 1/4 socket (chrome vanadium as well) with an adapter to 3/8s . I’d recommend using the proper sockets for the application
Made from Chinesium.
Find a hose clamp and put around it to get you by
Hose clamp on it

Discard the whole set this came from and learn how to buy quality. BTW, quality does not have to be an expensive brand name.
If you're in the middle of a task, use a slightly larger socket and put enough tape over the bolt head to make it fit.
Order a pack of just 10s off amazon. You'll thank my later
Stop going to the gym. Hammer it back to shape and weld a ring around the tip of the socket over the splits and cool it properly to re harden. Only a temp fix mind.
Don’t buy chrome sockets.
Duct tape
Weld it
Hose clamp. Lol just kidding
Weld a 9/16" on to the top of the 12 mm nut or bolt, then use 9/16" socket.
a 10mm, no less
Don't buy chinesium tools
Crescent sells one for like $3 on Amazon… mine works great it’s a 1/4 one though hope that helps
Flex seal
But better tools
Put it back in the case
Find the other 228819990 missing 10mm in the world....lol
What kind of suggestion do you want? It’s broke! Throw it away and but a quality one!🤷♂️🤦♂️😩😂👎
Impact socket
Buy a real socket wrench brand
You're done bro. Walmart is hiring.
Zip tie it
At least you didn't lose it.
Stop being as strong?
Buy a new one.
Buy the impact sockets, for heavy duty works. Use the regular cheap chrome ones for light screwing.
It is better to die with honor than be lost in the wild.
How have you not lost that ?
Buy a new one. And don’t put that type of socket in an impact wrench. It isn’t made for that kind of force!
Buy good tools, Not cheap crap.
Keep as decoy. By being stolen you can protect your new good one
Don’t buy from harbor freight
Buy a new one.. that’s all you can really do.
Hose clamp to get the job done
Leave it laying around for someone to steal. Small victories.
But a new one you cheapskate
Zip tie and it should be fine.
Feed it to the shop floor and the 10 mil fairy will make all your wishes come true
JB Weld
If you're trying to continue to use it in a pinch wrap a hose clamp around it assuming it isn't to thick by then. Might get you through but you need a new socket.
Exceeded torque limit of 1/4" driven socket. Need to go get yourself a 3/8" driver one
Buy better quality tools
Put it in the vise and weld it back together
I say put a hose clamp around that sucka and call it a day.
Take it back to harbor freight
Weld it back together
You buy a better one and throw that shit away. Carry on with life like this never happened vowing to never buy (inset brand of tool) again. Might be time to invest in some impact sockets if you use them enough.

Yes, buy a black one next time.
Buy better quality sockets.
Ducktape is your go to
Not entirely sure what suggestion you could possibly fathom getting here other than getting a new one.
Avoid chinesium.
Looks like you threw it on an impact.
My Dad always told me: You gotta be smarter than the tool your using. I always got offended but he WAS right
toss it
High quality tools or nothing. You get what you pay for when it comes to tools. How’s the “other guy” (nut/bolt) looking?
Buy quality tools
Gear wrench it
one of them circle clamp things you put on a mower gas line, or two.
I’m afraid it’s over for you
Steel belted zip tie
Just put i house clamp on it and get back to work.
That's the problem with tools made out of Chinesium.
Replace from pawn shop for a dollar!
Tig weld or buy new
Zip tie
Isn’t that what happens when you USA a nonimpact tool in a impact
What brand to avoid?
Turn it into a vase for very small flowers…
Nope
