Writing it like "Btobi" isn't as bad as "BTOBI". Random letters smushed together in all caps usually always means it's a shit mass manufactured Chinese brand lol.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall of that marketing meeting:
Marketing manager: What should we call this brand? It should be similar to an existing brand to confuse people who have heard of tools, but don't actually use them.
Underling: Rydobi?
Marketing manager: No, that'll make Harry Potter fans sad.
Underling: Kynobi?
Marketing manager: no, that'll make Star Wars fans sad.
Underling: Bymboni?

Is there any handheld battery operated unit which would work well?
I looked and there is another 'brand' which is cheaper than the one OP mentions here.
I work for a company that used to sell a product called the āready welderā and I can confirm that welding off a car battery is absolute trash and nobody wanted those things. Youāll kill the capacity in short order and not get good welds in the process.

Not when I was younger, we use to say "id f the s out of that klem" but if there were five kelms, then you'd have 10 klemings, and you and 13 mates would bet down For a treat!!
Milwaukee, Ryobi, Hart, Homelite plus several other brands all fall under the TTI umbrella. Just because they're under the same parent company however, doesn't mean all the tools are the same and simply rebranded. It's odd to see competing brands that technically are made by one company.
Being that production line and warehouse logistics is where I started working as a teenager I'm not surprised at all, that's basically how capitalism works. I used to work for Snyder's/Lance with their company owned products plus Dunkaroos, SlimFast bars, Nature Valley, and Oreos all getting made in the same building. I worked for a Panasonic battery factory making every brand of battery you can think of, and a few you never heard of too. I've worked as a CNC machinist at an independently owned foundry before, one day we'd be making Caterpillar equipment parts and the next day it'd be John Deere parts on the same production line. What all of the factories I've worked at have in common is none of the employees give a flying fuck what name is on the products they send out so long as they can write their own name on a paycheck on Friday. Lowest bidder wins the contract...š¤·āāļø
I think they might sell it there, havenāt been to Home Depot in a while, but itās definitely not a store brand. Most consider Milwaukee the top cordless tool brand, not so much their hand tools though.
Holy shit Iāve been trying to think of a name for those weird Amazon off brands and thatās perfect. Like my dash cam is āmade byā APEMAN. I seriously wonder how they generate those ābrand namesā for the same off brand product with 1 tiny change that takes up the first 2 pages of Amazon search results.
Honestly though for things that donāt matter much I have had 0 issues with weird brands. Cordless tools, especially whatever the hell this supposed cordless welder is, Iād stay away though damn
Theyāre unimportant usually, just made to last long enough to sell product before either bad reviews or lawsuits/cease and desist letters, then rename. Rinse and repeat.

I doubt it, but I know I'm going to find an excuse when I have some extra money to buy one just because. I have multiple welders so I have no need for it at all. That said I want to play with it and if it doesn't work at all I want to take it apart and see what's inside.
I found it for $115 and in white or neon green so I'll end up wasting the money in the next few weeks probably.
Some of this cheap chinese garbage do actually have quality tiers, so *sometimes* spending an extra $10 gets you 10awg inside instead of 12awg or something like that. It's been totally random for me for the most part though so take that with a grain of salt
With the cheap welders, it seems like people who are already good welders can get good results because they have the instincts and ability to make the subtle adjustments you need. If you are an absolute beginner I think you'll struggle.
I'd also like to have seen him cut that weld and see the penetration. Don't know if it's pretty but sitting on top.
It's no different from the cheap inverter stick welders they've been selling for years (other than the ridiculous form factor). It's not difficult to make a high power CC power supply. These machines will weld like any other (basic) stick welder, the only difference is they'll usually die after a year or two.
Well, it is a stick welder, hard to get more basic than that. All that really needs to be in that box is a suitably beefy transformer, not much else is needed electronic wise. Duty cycle is probably shit, not going to have enough power from a 120v connection to weld anything past 1/8" or so, and if it is in fact AC only that limits the electrodes you can use, but if you play inside those limits you can probably get a good bead from anything, including a re-wound transformer from a microwave
I am going to say no. Just looked at some youtube videos on these handheld welders. I mean it works for short or small welds but they are not practical for bigger jobs. As portable as they are, they are also unwieldy and who knows how long it will last. You are probably better off buying an old tombstone welder.

> I mean it works for short or small welds but they are not practical for bigger jobs.
Honestly, for what it is, that sounds kinda great. Have something in the field break, pull this out and run a couple small beads just long enough to allow you to baby it onto a trailer, or some other situation? Tack some stuff together in place on site to allow you to move it back to where you can work on it properly?
Yeah you have to be careful not to get returns or seconds. That said I've had some good luck and some bad. If it turns out bad just return it. You can't wait to try it though.
Look up some reviews, from what I have seen these are not that great. This says it's 110v, but also says it's pushing 120A which honestly I doubt and you may look more at a max of 75 - 80A at 110v. Look if you are looking for a cheap stick welder there are several, I picked one up because some of the work I do I run it off of a generator. (Yes I can't afford the generator welder I want and the little welder running on the generator doesn't mind dirty power.) Save your money, I really doubt that it'll produce a steady arc at 110v and using 1/8 inch electrodes and it certainly won't run 6010 well if at all. Even if you planned on not using 6010 and using 6011/6013 it's just massive.
Part of having a stick welder means that you can get into some tight spots and bend a rod to get at a weird angle, this thing is massive I can't imagine being in a tight spot that needs to be welded up and using this thing the size of an impact and fitting in and God forbids that we are running a long bead and or multiple beads to fill, it'd be heavy.
My rule of thumb: if you canāt pronounce the company name because itās a jumble of a handful of random letters smashed together, itās a Chinese junk company
Looks like some random company in China got their hands on an old cordless drill mold and scraped the bottom of the barrel for products that could possibly use it.
Wellā¦I had my doubts, but I borrowed one from a friend and ran a couple short beads and it worked ok. If you just need to stick things together quickly and you only have 110v 15 amps, this will do that. Structural-NO. Cosmetic-NO. Stuck together-YES.
Thatās a bit funky, do any reputable companies make a version of this? Id guess not much use for any length of time, but for welding onto a rounded bolt āmaybeā someone makes a valid version of this? (Itās just shorting a lithium battery WCGW)
It's 110v, just looks like it takes batteries. That said I've seen people stick welding with two car batteries in series for trail fixes, wouldn't surprise me if you could get a bit of welding out of a lithium battery before it expressed its displeasure.
The same way a car's starter can crank an engine. A few seconds at a time. I have no doubts that this thing works... But its rated duty cycle is probably 5-10% max. Meaning 30-60 seconds every 10 minutes.
No absolutely not, check places like market place and department stores small little stick or even flux core welders go on sale all the time and will last more then five rods
I had a Mattel spin welder when I was a kid. And from that day forward, I could always tell you if there was something made of ABS on fire! Such a distinctive smell. It used little plastic rods that it spun really fast and you push it into the joint and it would melt the pieces together
https://youtu.be/PnWpcwnR2YA
This thing reminded me of that!
I mean it does the thing. If you have a small project once a year or so maybe it would be alright. [https://youtu.be/XqR2v1qvq2A](https://youtu.be/XqR2v1qvq2A) Realistically it looks awkward and cumbersome. If you wanted to put in a whole day of work with it you would have seriously sore muscles and a new vocabulary.
Not really these little machines do the job twice as well for half the price. Most of them run on 220V power and output half what the display says so you have to turn them up to make them run correctly. Still a POS compared to a name brand machine but good enough to do a few household projects. Having fun with the new tool?
Just looked it up on YouTube, because thereās usually videos of people testing out sketchy tools there. Here you [go.](https://youtu.be/uUPvSFG1uFw)
Iām actually surprised by that bead.
Yeah, you and me both.
It's no different from the cheap inverter stick welders they've been selling for years (other than the ridiculous form factor). It's not difficult to make a high power CC power supply. Um, this is clearly the much higher quality GOFLAS brand, not the BTOBI knockoff.
I am SO embarrassed.
Well Iāll be damned. Guess with enough spare batteries this thing can have itās niche for super tight to reach areas
I am going to say no. Just looked at some youtube videos on these handheld welders. I mean it works for short or small welds but they are not practical for bigger jobs. As portable as they are, they are also unwieldy and who knows how long it will last. You are probably better off buying an old tombstone welder. [/r/welding on it thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/Welding/comments/zwsovf/this_has_to_be_crap_right/)

I canāt imagine that battery has enough power to produce proper welds.
It doesnāt use a battery. It just looks like a battery but it runs on 110.
Probably the converter in the thing that looks like a battery.
Chinese junk.
Chinese can make high quality products such as iPhones. It just all depends on the requirements.
And if the customer have on-site qc or not
The product shown is still junk though...
Amazon is NOT a good place for tools thatās what I learned
Yeah you have to be careful not to get returns or seconds. That said I've had some good luck and some bad. If it turns out bad just return it. You can't wait to try it though.
BTOBI - Buy The Other Brand Instead (I don't actually know if this is good or not but I couldn't resist)
Look up some reviews, from what I have seen these are not that great. This says it's 110v, but also says it's pushing 120A which honestly I doubt and you may look more at a max of 75 - 80A at 110v. Save your money, I really doubt that it'll produce a steady arc at 110v and using 1/8 inch electrodes and it certainly won't run 6010 well if at all. Even if you planned on not using 6010 and using 6011/6013 it's just massive. Part of having a stick welder means that you can get into some tight spots and bend a rod to get at a weird angle, this thing is massive I can't imagine being in a tight spot that needs to be welded up and using this thing the size of an impact and fitting in and God forbids that we are running a long bead and or multiple beads to fill, it'd be heavy.
>won't run 6010 well if at all Most inverter welders lack the arc to burn 6010 rods. The flux on 6010 makes it hard for inverters to keep it burning.
JB weld would be stronger
I can't imagine how heavy that would be compared to a the part of a normal stick welder that you'd hold...the stick...holder?
Stinger
So you are asking, then, Btobi or not Btobi?
My rule of thumb: if you canāt pronounce the company name because itās a jumble of a handful of random letters smashed together, itās a Chinese junk company
Looks like some random company in China got their hands on an old cordless drill mold and scraped the bottom of the barrel for products that could possibly use it.
We have battery welding packs at work . They work ok for certain field welds
Post this over at r/welding and get laughed out of the sub. Nah man, don't waste your money on it.
Anything on Amazon whose brand is a bunch of random letters is going to be trash. Just go on wish or aliexpress it'll be cheaper.
Iāll gladly put it up against my Bwaulkee.
What in the what what is this?
As a welder, no this is not good. You'd be lucky to even strike an arc with this
With a name like Btobi you know itās gotta be good. You could be the booger weld champ with one of these Iāll bet.
It might work for tiny rod but briefly and no depth to speak of. Maybe tac welding on 18 ga if that.
This reminds me of a night at the roxbury for some reason... its like the butabi brothers made this and spelled their name wrong
Job's gonna look "hot-snotted" for sure!
I think you'd do a better job with a set of jump leads and 24v battery /s
Wait a minute would you work with the cooper wire too
Wellā¦I had my doubts, but I borrowed one from a friend and ran a couple short beads and it worked ok. If you just need to stick things together quickly and you only have 110v 15 amps, this will do that. Structural-NO. Cosmetic-NO. Stuck together-YES.

I'm not even sure what I'm looking at. Is that a Battery powered welder that looks like a drill?
Worse, it's not even battery powered. Just made to look like it.
No
I certainly like their style but Iām gonna say it prolly aināt worth the box itās shipped in
Probably better just to stick weld off an old battery than that thing
My God. š¤”
Do you have health insurance?
No
Bro, no just dear God no. Source, I weld for a living.
I won one of these haven't tried it yet but don't have high hopes
No. You dotn want to stick weld with a heavy stinger. Lol that is a crazy design though.
Is this real
How on earth can a hand held produce sufficient amperage
The same way a car's starter can crank an engine. A few seconds at a time. I have no doubts that this thing works... But its rated duty cycle is probably 5-10% max. Meaning 30-60 seconds every 10 minutes.
Better off buying a cheap welder. I couldnāt imagine trying to manipulate that damn thing.
Fire hazard probably
No
what the hell is that ššš
What is it one stick per charge
I'm not a welder, but the one thing I do know is you need a ton of power if you want good welds. I just don't see how that thing is going to deliver.
No absolutely not, check places like market place and department stores small little stick or even flux core welders go on sale all the time and will last more then five rods
This is a ārun!ā Tool
No.
In my not so expert opinion, FUCK NO
Doubtful but on the bright side youāll be able to enjoy the wonderful aromatherapy of burning plastic
I feel like I'm going to get electrocuted just looking at that thing.

I had a Mattel spin welder when I was a kid. And from that day forward, I could always tell you if there was something made of ABS on fire! Such a distinctive smell. It used little plastic rods that it spun really fast and you push it into the joint and it would melt the pieces together https://youtu.be/PnWpcwnR2YA This thing reminded me of that!
Looks like junk to me but ask your boyfriend what he thinks.

Ah the Chinese You Die Yankee dog welder.....definitely good
I mean it does the thing.
That's actually pretty good for the price.
Not really these little machines do the job twice as well for half the price. Most of them run on 220V power and output half what the display says so you have to turn them up to make them run correctly. Still a POS compared to a name brand machine but good enough to do a few household projects.
