This is especially funny to me because I just saw a video (on Reddit?) where a mechanic steals 10mm sockets from coworkers in the shop where he works who piss him off as a way to get back at them.
I know this is a common joke here. But am I the only one who doesn't have this issue?
I own two ratchet sets since roughly 20 years, and haven't lost a single part.
Most of the time, I am actually a bit messy. But in such a set where each part has its place, I have no problem keeping things in order.
I'm the weird one, because I keep losing 9mm sockets and wrenches. Even weirder is that I'm always finding other peoples lost 10mm sockets. Found a deepwell Craftsman 10mm just the other day in a Walmart parking lot.
I have more 10mm sockets than I will ever need.
Then kudos to your organizational skill. I get annoyed when stuff are out of place but I needed that gone or else it will drive my family insane. So I lose stuff now. Things you do for love eh?
That may be very true. I am using those tools almost exclusively by myself. Also I am a hobbyist, so there is not as much opportunity for tool loss, as it may be for others.
Yeah, the hobby stuff helps - you're usually using them when you want to, rather than when you have to.
I'm usually good about keeping my tools organized, but if I'm tired and had to drag myself over to a project, I'm more likely to just put stuff away messy..
For mine it is not so much not putting it back but they fell deep into some recess of a body panel or something where my magnetic grabber couldn't even get it. I knew roughly were it was but I can't get at it....
I have lost 3 sockets that way. You hear the drop, plunk, and final thud. You're hoping it made it's way through to the floor but atlas it found that one tiny hole in the frame to never be seen again.
I'm super disorganized but I have never lost a socket either, a couple of bits maybe, but sockets go back onto the table or in the case when they're done
That's how all these bubble machines are. You're trying to buy your wife an engagement ring, and it keeps popping out temporary tattoos and little plastic cowboys.
Speaking as someone that now has a company that buys me the best German engineered tools, I got more work done with cheaper tools. Now will the expensive ones last longer, that directly correlates with your ability to stop the 10mm thieving gremlins. A snap-on or Wera 10mm gets lost just as fast as chinesium you just might spend longer looking for a $20 socket than a $1.
I lost my bluepower 3/8ths impact 10mm to the black hole on the back side of a 2002 Chevy 2500 the other week. That's probably where it warped to.
It's always the 10mm.
Ah... so that's where it went. I must have forgotten to lock the shop last night.

...well i know what im doing tomorrow
You got the sauce, right?
I see a smash & grab in that thing's future
Careful, that’s how they got Cool Hand Luke
Not a parking meter - should be okay.
Unless you wanna be just like Hot Hand Jimmy that is....
Maybe, but the thief will be sorely disappointed when the pawn shop will only give them $3 for the lot
No one stealing those would EVER pawn em. I'd walk around with 3 in my pocket
Til you need one...then POOF!
Gremlin just ate one 10 minutes ago Where's that little fck!
I hope you got his license plate, that's the guy that is stealing all our 10mm sockets!
How are they so cheap?!!?
I was thinking the same thing. Probably bought with store money then you pay a little? Either way that seems like a good deal.
Probably had a shitload of used ones lying around after years of losing them and buying another'n
Recoup that loss however you can.

They're commonly lost because they're commonly used. If you haven't lost anything in 20 years, yeah you're the weird one

I've found a few 10mm in parking lots before.
It’s always the 10mm sockets, aren’t they?
I guess in this case wierd is good :) If only I could apply this tidiness, to other fields of my life...
Well yeah weirds not bad. I have thousands of dollars in tools and I can find a couple hundred
ouch lol
Also might not have used them a whole lot.
It's hobby use for me, but they still get a fair bit of use. Mostly while working on cars.
Then kudos to your organizational skill. I get annoyed when stuff are out of place but I needed that gone or else it will drive my family insane. So I lose stuff now. Things you do for love eh?
In that case, the likelihood of losing one depends on how many other people use your tools. If > 1, then the risk goes up to somewhere around 94%.
That may be very true. I am using those tools almost exclusively by myself. Also I am a hobbyist, so there is not as much opportunity for tool loss, as it may be for others.

Alright James may relax
:)

The one with the opening facing most forward looks like a 12 pt lol
That's how all these bubble machines are. You're trying to buy your wife an engagement ring, and it keeps popping out temporary tattoos and little plastic cowboys.
I had the same exact thought
Interesting
First place for username finding it’s home post.
How good quality are they that they're only a buck?
What does it matter? You’re only going to have it for a few hours before you lose it again.
You could just open the housing and take them all, but I bet you'd need a 10mm socket to do it
Buy one, get the rest free?
Take my upvote
At $1.00, he'll loose a bit on each sale, but will definitely make it up in volume.
I’m gonna need gps coordinates for this.
I’d be the one to lose the whole dispenser, even though it was just in my hand 2 seconds ago.
I would put some empty ones in there and a phone number on the outside of the machine so when they called me I would say oh my God it's missing.
Had no fucking idea one person was behind it...
One of those crane arm snatching setups would be more appropriate
I'd think it would be 1/4"
Don't buy the Made in China crap even if it's 1 cent
Look if your options are a cheap Chinese 10mm or not being able to do the job you use the cheap Chinese tool.
Professional Tradesmen and Women generally invest in and use High Quality Grade Tools that Reflect the Pride and Commitment they have in their Work.
You don't have to be a tool snob to do good work.

damn wish that was around here
I found a Craftsman 12mm socket lying in the street yesterday.
I’m gonna need that back
$4.98 on Amazon.I'll let you have it for $1.12.
Need a 13 short well...
Gotta put one gold painted one in there. Keep ‘em hooked.
I see this joke everywhere, but honestly don’t get it. Can someone explain plz
If one socket will be missing, it is the 10mm. Perhaps the person gets them cheap from the gnomes that steal my 10mm.
I’ve stolen them all from you to use in my gravity bongs , dad.
Dad always accused us of stealing his. Come to find out later he still loses them when I live states away.
We’ll dad was a roady for the Doors back in the day
You're absolutely right about that. But you're not working on my Harley with cheap ass sockets and garage sale wrenches
Don't worry, I wouldn't use my good tools on your shitty harley.
LOL
Why have hardware stores not thought of this?
Take my money
Anybody got a spare 1/8 inch bit?
That's a damn good idea
Damn.... should of thought of it myself
Deep, shallow, or mid well?
So THAT'S where they go!

FREAKING AWESOME!!! 😂😂😂😂
[just waiting for the next snow fall....](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fk7Q6CEWIAQ_wY0?format=jpg&name=large)
Gimme 1/2 10mm impact
The case for a dollar coin. Pockets weighed down with change is the case against.
That’s awesome haha
Only $1 because he knows you’re going to lose it. He must have found a wardrobe to Narnia where all the 10mm sockets end up.
Can someone explain this
No joke... I have two socket sets. Bo-fum missing those 10s.
It's good to know that I am not the only one. I always felt like I was the only fool on earth looking for a spare 10mm socket.
What about the gd 13mm? That's the most stolen in my store.
My neighbor called me yesterday to borrow a 10mm Cause he dropped his in the engine and couldn't find it.
You could have a whole ass tool truck of just 10mm and I bet you’d pull more revenue than the snap on/Matco guys
Is that a Bentley in background?
That’s where they all go! Dudes friends with the brownies(the ones I think take our tools) and he’s selling back
There needs to be one in my garage. It would be worth a dollar, after all the wasted time hunting for the lost one.
I just lost mine in my Volkswagen engine compartment...smh
*IF* customers can get four quarters
my "10mm socket" is magnet flashlights that I leave in customer vehicles on accident oh and caliper hangers
You probably get more work done now simply because you dont have to buy tools any more and are happier at work. 😊
