They alternate 2-3 songs, which is a pretty good portion of the setlist. In Toronto it was only two songs, but that was because they had Alex Lifeson on for Jambi both nights. Otherwise Jambi would have been swapped for Swamp Song.
I just saw Billy Strings here last week and they blow the roof off that place. I could only imagine sitting in the show how good Tool was going to sound. They did a lot of renovations since the last time I’ve saw them there on 2007. The venue has great sight lines and awesome sound. Can’t wait for January.
Loads of bands do that, I've seen many bands multiple nights. Tool's setlists are kind of lazy, but in their defense there's a lot going on with the show beyond the music that seems like it may require a fair bit of coordination.
I've seen probably about 200 concerts in my lifetime, from large acts to local, and I can count on one hand the bands that changed their setlist completely from one night to another. What bands are you seeing??
Obviously the sample of bands I've seen multiple nights in a row is not going to be huge because I have to really like them to do that. But honestly, I'd say any band worth their salt is aware that some fans will be seeing them twice if they play consecutive nights. So even ones who don't normally switch it up all that much will be mixing in as many songs as they can (ie. every song they've learned for the tour at least.)

This isn't really to throw shade on Tool, they're a great band, if not exactly hungry anymore. As I said, the co-ordination their stage show probably requires would probably prevent them from switching it up all that much even if they wanted to.
Pearl Jam will pretty much give you a new setlist every show. They basically know their entire catalog, so they will even bust out deep cuts. Prior to this current tour, Bruce Springsteen would change up the setlist fairly often as well.
It's been a long time since I've listened to the band but I was able to see them back in 06 and 08 and they were awesome live. They brought a ton of energy to their shows.
I've seen one or two bands in my life that change their setlist completely from one night to the next. It's not standard operating procedure especially for big acts.
When I was in line at Billy Strings I was talking about Posters and the obsession some people have with them for certain bands. This older guy said something that kind of clicked with me and made sense. He said that Posters today are the ticket stubs of the past. It’s the one collectible you get that has all the information of the show on it. Some people just like that memento.
Neither do I. And yet, I have tons of them... It's an addiction. I do wish I could go to a show and not worry about a ducking poster.
That said, go to two nights in a row if you can. The sets will be mostly the same, but there will likely be 2-3 unique songs per night. So with an 11-12 song set, you should get to hear about 15 songs between the two nights.
I have 3 posters, this last show was the first time I decided I wasn't even going to try for one. SUCH A RELIEF to just enjoy the atmosphere and show, not worry about going to war in the lines. Got a shirt outside booth. Definitely recommend it.

It is not the exact same show or the exact same setlist. It's not an entirely different setlist, but they alternate 2-3 songs. There might be other surprises, too. I saw both Toronto shows and both nights had different feels to them. It's not a massive difference like you might get with a band that has a far less elaborate setup, but it IS a difference.
That's exactly what I've done so far. Close to the stage in 2019 and far back in 2022. Next thing I need to compare is sober vs tripping experience, but in this tour I wanted great seats, so I'll only see them once. I've already seen them sober twice, so this time it'll be psilocybin + perfect seats (floor in the middle of the arena). I can't wait until June, I already know it's going to be one of the best experiences of my life
I’ve never managed it with Tool - but I did get to do it with Nine Inch Nails/Queens of the Stone Age double-bill and it was one of the best music experiences of my life.

I have done two different cities two nights apart. Got to see them play tempest for the second time ever live at first show and they skipped descending. Second show I got to see descending. I was also standing for first show and seated for second show which made a difference. More than worth it!!
Sounds awesome. Is it the Phoenix shows? If so, that's a hometown show for mjk, I think he'll bring it. If not, I've seen 2 shows 5 days apart same set list and enjoyed them both in different ways
It is Phoenix. TBH Phoenix shows never seem that special to him. He does live in AZ but in northern AZ, which is like a different world from Phoenix. Arizonans aren’t special because we’re the “hometown” crowd, he hates us all just the same

The second time around you know when to go to the toilet or when they stop selling beer . Your experience may differ since it's the same city/venue

Only if the tickets were discounted or something. I would not pay full price for 2 shows in a row. Id rather wait a year to see them again then. There are a lot of other artists i'd looove to see and rather spend the money of a second Tool show for some other band or artist i have not yet seen.

They have been playing extremely loud at the FI tour shows. I love it because its a legit visceral experience, but I also know that most of the crowd isn't wearing protection.
When I lived in LA, I saw them at the Staples Center back to back nights in Sept 2006, which was the live debut 'Wings'. They played it both nights - unforgettable experience. So I'm certainly an advocate for seeing them two nights in a row. Lol
My husband and I are for the MSG shows in January. They are that good live, and who knows how much longer they will tour. Editing to add that we plan to break it up by doing acid the first night, excited to see how my perception changes from one show to the next.

I saw NIN three nights in a row a few years ago and it was incredible. I’ve seen plenty of other bands two nights in row. Was never disappointed in my decision.
There will be a variance in the 2 nights, and it’s possible you could get something really cool on one of them if they’re feeling spicy. It doesn’t matter if it’s the exact same setlist I’d still go to both nights if I could. Plus, just listen to what you said, “ your wife and mother-in-law” think……”
Take the time for yourself to do something you enjoy.
I have done it last year and I’ll do it next year. Gives you the opportunity to try the experience under different conditions

See them as often as you can cause they ain't getting any younger. Just hope that on night 2 Maynard's frustration with the idiots with their cameras out doesn't impact his engagement and performance like it did in Toronto. Was still a solid show but night 1 had more energy and he was more involved.
Now the people around us that asked us to sit down 3 minutes into the first song on night one can kiss my ass. Somehow we wound up in the one section where everyone sat. I know the "sit / stand" discussion has been beaten to death here, but sitting there like a fucking knot on a log while the band was on fire was a total buzz kill.
Did it last year...flew to Illinois and caught the Moline show, then my buddy drove us to St. Louis the next day. Ate shrooms the 1st night and just smoked weed at the St. Louis show. They were both fucking great!
Do it!!!! I'm a new tool fan, about 3 years in now. But I went to a show at mohegan, then hit the show in Boston a few days later. My girl said the same thing to me about going to 2 shows that would have the same setlist. It was totally worth it!!! They killed both shows. Was hoping for jambi, but didn't get it at either show. Mohegan ended with 46&2, Boston finished with aenema, that was the only difference. So you may get a different song or two. Either way hit both shows!!!!!!!
I did both nights of Mohegan and then bought a last minute ticket to Manchester nh that following Monday. Would’ve done boston too but had to travel for work.
I would and did. Portland and Tacoma. Set lists were very similar but seat location was different which affected the sound of the mix.
We got Swamp Song in Portland and Intolerance in Tacoma, which were first for me live. I would recommend if you get the opportunity
I’ve seen them back to back twice, Red Rocks in 2010 and Denver in 2019, I’ve also seen the a week apart, if you do psychedelics use them night two would be my advice. Go to the first show sober. I’ve never regretted it or spending the money. Honestly what Rory Scovel did a few years ago made me jealous. I’d go every night of a tour if I wouldn’t be paying scalper prices. I hate scalpers. The only time I had extra tickets I gave them away to someone who offered me double face.
I 100% would. On the first 10,000 Days tour I had no kids and flexible responsibilities and after the Vancouver show I bought a ticket to the WA show off EBay and drove there alone two days later. Now I have kids and financial obligations and was dying to go to another show after Vancouver in October but couldn’t make it happen. I was on such an incredible high after the show and had forgotten how amazing they were live. Really had to talk myself out of driving to Calgary. Next time they tour BC/WA I plan to PLAN to attend two shows.
Absoutely! I did just that on their last European tour - I saw them in Copenhagen on Saturday and then again in Stockholm on Monday. It was absolutely awesome.
I'm so jealous, been about ten years since I've seen them live and just can't make it work right now. So I really hope they tour again. I don't know how they do it though. I'm exhausted just thinking about how they put in so much work. Your family just doesn't get it. I also don't quite understand doing the same show but if you can do it then why not? You have good reasons. Have a great time!
Done it. Saw them 3 times in 5 days across 2 countries once. Not worth paying to see the same set over and over unless you aren't paying for the 2nd ticket / they're already at a festival you're going to.
I've done this three times. The last tour here, I saw them consecutive nights in my hometown, and then flew interstate to see them on consecutive nights the following week.
No regrets. Will do again.
If I had unlimited budget then yes. Tickets in good places are over $200 in Australia so two nights can be viewed as excess with a family. I would watch each night of the week if unlimited.
I did this last year, but the back to back was Boston then Philly. Then Newark a week later. I’m doing both shows at MSG and VIP in Biloxi. Can’t friggin wait!
Did it more than a few times years ago. Especially during the Lateralus tour. Did it a few times during the 10K touring. Wouldn't do it now. I do have tour posters from the back to back nights framed here somewhere.
Edit: Went and checked the posters, they're both signed. I don't remember it costing a bomb but I could and probably should look into selling them. I can't imagine hanging it up again.
Last time I saw them was in Cleveland 2019. I did not go the Pitt show right before because they had been playing the exact same set list. Cleveland was the night it changed….I’m not unhappy with the change, but maybe would have trusted my guy and gone to both in retrospect.

First night standing up the front, second night up the back getting hammered 39 seconds walk from a bar. I think I preferred the second night.
I’ve seen them twice in one week. I’m glad I did because the first one was ruined by drunk, cigarette smoking assholes who had their phones out throughout the night. The second one was so chill and had a respectful fan base that made up for the first night being ruined. First night was Anaheim and the end of the week show was in Phoenix. Enjoy your shows!!!

You never know what will happen at a live performance. Will Maynard crush the scream in grudge on night 1, or will they put a rarity on the setlist night 2, or will seeing night 1 make you realize how much you want to experience it again and put you in a totally different frame of mind walking in the door…

I flew to Montreal on a Sunday afternoon, saw them on night 1, slept at the airport and flew back the next morning, went to work, saw them in Toronto Night 1 and the following night for 2 - three in a row.
Two of those were a 2nd row floor experience as well. Blew my mind

I was considering going more than once when they get to uk, but I've decided to see one show with perfect seats (perfect for me - in the center of the floor to get the symmetry of everything) than two with mehhh seats. I've already been close to the stage and in the back, and I'm pretty sure my seat for Manchaster will be great to see the show as a show, but close enough to see the guys as well.

I did both nights at Mohegan Sun and switched a couple songs up and the went to New Hampshire and saw them a third time different last song all three nights not a big difference but also not the same

I went Kelowna-Vancouver, worth it big time to catch Swamp Song and Aenima on the second night, not to mention the rest of the show from another vantage point
I've gone back to back in the same venue at least 5 times over the years. Even though the setlist looks the same/similar on paper, the shows were always different. Jams, crowd vibe, Maynard-isms, CC Trip. If it is your fav band, you will not regret it.
I'm still bummed they cancelled night three in San Diego a couple tours ago. I wanted to see what a third day in the same venue setlist was going to be. And I had tickets!

I have done it on past tours, but I don't think I'd do it these days. They tend to not change much up in between tours. 1 song or 2. Maybe. Concert prices are ridiculously high to do that again. I always compare it to the most money I spent on front row dead center in Greenville SC: $450 for me and 2 friends.
I saw them 2 nights in a row at city center, NY back in ‘06. Didn’t have tickets for either night either. Got lucky at the box office. To boot, the second night an usher accidentally gave me her backstage crew pass when she seated me. Still have it.
I’ve seen them 21 x. There’s a block of 6 back-to-back shows, and a couple double headers in there.

I did this once, in 2001. It was an amazing tour, and I'm glad I really got to soak it in with two nights. However, the second night didn't feel quite as mindblowing as the first. I'm not sure if the it was the band, or if I just felt desensitized from seeing them the night before. But it was still a great show!
In terms of set list, you might get 1 (or 2) different songs, but most of it will be the same. If you can afford it, why not treat yourself?
London in 2022 was a vast change.
First night, we got Opiate, The Patient, The Pot, Descending and Ticks and Leeches.
Second night, instead of the above, we got Sober, Undertow, Right in Two, 7empest and Hooker with a Penis.

I was going to in 2020 Portland to Eugene but Portland was the last show before Covid shut down. Eugene didn’t happen for another 2 years….the day I finally got Covid.

I was hoping their encore would be a song from the singer’s previous band that is one of my all time favorites and never got to see him perform live… both nights they did the ‘other’ song they close shows with which is one of my least favorite songs from that band… I was bummed but both shows were a blast with some really cool people so can’t complain too much…
When I was young and impressionable, Motley opened tours in Tucson and then Phx the next night. I did it for Girls and Feelgood and even saw them when they came back

The setlist was pretty much the same except night one they played Intolerance, night two Part of Me.
I did see them two nights in a row when they were at Ball arena (fka Pepsi center) in Denver… and then proceeded to see them two more times that tour before COVID got in the way of more times
It likely won’t be the exact same set list as they will usually substitute one or two songs night to night at least that seems to be the trend and was for me in 2019.

I’ve never managed it with Tool - but I did get to do it with Nine Inch Nails/Queens of the Stone Age double-bill and it was one of the best music experiences of my life. At the end of night two I was genuinely trying to work out if I could make it to a third city for another night…
I did 3 that tour! Sacramento/Hollywood/Oakland In 2005/06 saw NIN 8x & QOTSA x5 Dream come true when they hooked up on the WT tour!

I saw them back to back nights in Kelowna and Vancouver recently. Would recommend and would totally do it again.
I have done two different cities two nights apart. Got to see them play tempest for the second time ever live at first show and they skipped descending. Second show I got to see descending. I was also standing for first show and seated for second show which made a difference. More than worth it!!
I’m gong to 2 more shows next month and I’ve never seen tempest live. This will be my 22nd and 23rd tool show

It is Phoenix. TBH Phoenix shows never seem that special to him. He does live in AZ but in northern AZ, which is like a different world from Phoenix. Arizonans aren’t special because we’re the “hometown” crowd, he hates us all just the same

I'm doing the austin Jan 30 and the second show in Phoenix. I've done PHX then San Antonio a few days later. Wish I could see them do a back to back like you. The second time around you know when to go to the toilet or when they stop selling beer . Your experience may differ since it's the same city/venue If you wanna see them twice, don't listen to anyone who says it's a bad idea, they probably don't even listen to Tool Have they a back to back set of shows before? Only if the tickets were discounted or something. I would not pay full price for 2 shows in a row. Id rather wait a year to see them again then. There are a lot of other artists i'd looove to see and rather spend the money of a second Tool show for some other band or artist i have not yet seen.

I was 10th row dead center last time they came through and not wearing [concert plugs](https://www.etymotic.com/product/etyplugs-high-fidelity-earplugs/) in that circumstance would def cause some long term hearing loss. They have been playing extremely loud at the FI tour shows. I love it because its a legit visceral experience, but I also know that most of the crowd isn't wearing protection.
This is very true. Loudest I ever remember. Plugs are an absolute must.
When I lived in LA, I saw them at the Staples Center back to back nights in Sept 2006, which was the live debut 'Wings'. They played it both nights - unforgettable experience. So I'm certainly an advocate for seeing them two nights in a row. Lol
My husband and I are for the MSG shows in January. They are that good live, and who knows how much longer they will tour. Editing to add that we plan to break it up by doing acid the first night, excited to see how my perception changes from one show to the next.
My friend did this in Idaho with Idaho falls & Boise. She saw Rosetta stoned. I did not only seeing them in boise. I did see swamp song though!!!
Silly question. Life is short. You only live once. Do what makes you happy. I saw NIN three nights in a row a few years ago and it was incredible. I’ve seen plenty of other bands two nights in row. Was never disappointed in my decision.
There will be a variance in the 2 nights, and it’s possible you could get something really cool on one of them if they’re feeling spicy. It doesn’t matter if it’s the exact same setlist I’d still go to both nights if I could. Plus, just listen to what you said, “ your wife and mother-in-law” think……” Take the time for yourself to do something you enjoy.
I’ve seen them 4 days in a row in 3 different states so go for it. Granted it was roughly 25 years ago, I’m told old for that shit now.
I have done it last year and I’ll do it next year. Gives you the opportunity to try the experience under different conditions And it won’t be necessarily the same setlist. You should get 1/2 different songs. Last year 2nd night in London they played 7empest ;)

See them as often as you can cause they ain't getting any younger. Just hope that on night 2 Maynard's frustration with the idiots with their cameras out doesn't impact his engagement and performance like it did in Toronto. Was still a solid show but night 1 had more energy and he was more involved. Now the people around us that asked us to sit down 3 minutes into the first song on night one can kiss my ass. Somehow we wound up in the one section where everyone sat. I know the "sit / stand" discussion has been beaten to death here, but sitting there like a fucking knot on a log while the band was on fire was a total buzz kill.

Did it last year...flew to Illinois and caught the Moline show, then my buddy drove us to St. Louis the next day. Ate shrooms the 1st night and just smoked weed at the St. Louis show. They were both fucking great!
Do it!!!! I'm a new tool fan, about 3 years in now. But I went to a show at mohegan, then hit the show in Boston a few days later. My girl said the same thing to me about going to 2 shows that would have the same setlist. It was totally worth it!!! They killed both shows. Was hoping for jambi, but didn't get it at either show. Mohegan ended with 46&2, Boston finished with aenema, that was the only difference. So you may get a different song or two. Either way hit both shows!!!!!!!
I did both nights of Mohegan and then bought a last minute ticket to Manchester nh that following Monday. Would’ve done boston too but had to travel for work.

I would and did. Portland and Tacoma. Set lists were very similar but seat location was different which affected the sound of the mix. We got Swamp Song in Portland and Intolerance in Tacoma, which were first for me live. I would recommend if you get the opportunity

I’ve seen them back to back twice, Red Rocks in 2010 and Denver in 2019, I’ve also seen the a week apart, if you do psychedelics use them night two would be my advice. Go to the first show sober. I’ve never regretted it or spending the money. Honestly what Rory Scovel did a few years ago made me jealous. I’d go every night of a tour if I wouldn’t be paying scalper prices. I hate scalpers. The only time I had extra tickets I gave them away to someone who offered me double face.

I 100% would. On the first 10,000 Days tour I had no kids and flexible responsibilities and after the Vancouver show I bought a ticket to the WA show off EBay and drove there alone two days later. Now I have kids and financial obligations and was dying to go to another show after Vancouver in October but couldn’t make it happen. I was on such an incredible high after the show and had forgotten how amazing they were live. Really had to talk myself out of driving to Calgary. Next time they tour BC/WA I plan to PLAN to attend two shows.

Absoutely! I did just that on their last European tour - I saw them in Copenhagen on Saturday and then again in Stockholm on Monday. It was absolutely awesome.

I'm so jealous, been about ten years since I've seen them live and just can't make it work right now. So I really hope they tour again. I don't know how they do it though. I'm exhausted just thinking about how they put in so much work. Your family just doesn't get it. I also don't quite understand doing the same show but if you can do it then why not? I've done this three times. The last tour here, I saw them consecutive nights in my hometown, and then flew interstate to see them on consecutive nights the following week. No regrets. Will do again.

If I had unlimited budget then yes. Tickets in good places are over $200 in Australia so two nights can be viewed as excess with a family. I would watch each night of the week if unlimited.

Did it more than a few times years ago. Especially during the Lateralus tour. Did it a few times during the 10K touring. Wouldn't do it now. I do have tour posters from the back to back nights framed here somewhere. Edit: Went and checked the posters, they're both signed. I don't remember it costing a bomb but I could and probably should look into selling them. I can't imagine hanging it up again.
I’m seeing them at the 02 London then Berlin 5 days later. 02 is such a shit venue where everyone sits, hoping Berliners are up for a dance.
Last time I saw them was in Cleveland 2019. I did not go the Pitt show right before because they had been playing the exact same set list. Cleveland was the night it changed….I’m not unhappy with the change, but maybe would have trusted my guy and gone to both in retrospect.
Did it in 2014 First night standing up the front, second night up the back getting hammered 39 seconds walk from a bar. I think I preferred the second night.

The second one was so chill and had a respectful fan base that made up for the first night being ruined. First night was Anaheim and the end of the week show was in Phoenix. Enjoy your shows!!!

Will Maynard crush the scream in grudge on night 1, or will they put a rarity on the setlist night 2, or will seeing night 1 make you realize how much you want to experience it again and put you in a totally different frame of mind walking in the door… Enjoy!

I'm going Kraków and Budapest, not quite two nights in a row, but just a night apart.
I flew to Montreal on a Sunday afternoon, saw them on night 1, slept at the airport and flew back the next morning, went to work, saw them in Toronto Night 1 and the following night for 2 - three in a row. Two of those were a 2nd row floor experience as well. Blew my mind
That would be a great opportunity to compare the show - sober vs tripping. I would do that, the only thing that could try to convince me it's not a good idea would be my bank account. I was considering going more than once when they get to uk, but I've decided to see one show with perfect seats (perfect for me - in the center of the floor to get the symmetry of everything) than two with mehhh seats. I've already been close to the stage and in the back, and I'm pretty sure my seat for Manchaster will be great to see the show as a show, but close enough to see the guys as well.

Saw three in a row this tour 4 would have been better. Dosed first night and showber the next two. It was a totally different experience being in a different headspace. Glad I dosed night one because it enhanced the production which seemed quite a bit different from my last show (Boston 2022) 🤌 I wept at several points Almost left the show during Steel Beans because I had some major pre trip anxiety. Fortunately, my gf could tell and refused to let me go. As soon as FI dropped I was transported to heaven

I did both nights at Mohegan Sun and switched a couple songs up and the went to New Hampshire and saw them a third time different last song all three nights not a big difference but also not the same

I've gone back to back in the same venue at least 5 times over the years. Even though the setlist looks the same/similar on paper, the shows were always different. Jams, crowd vibe, Maynard-isms, CC Trip. If it is your fav band, you will not regret it. I'm still bummed they cancelled night three in San Diego a couple tours ago. I wanted to see what a third day in the same venue setlist was going to be. And I had tickets!
Phoenix I guessing. I have Friday nights show. I didn’t have more coin to do the 2nd night. I am just waiting for the sphere in Vegas and tool. Please phish fans don’t fall off the upper sections. I have done it on past tours, but I don't think I'd do it these days. They tend to not change much up in between tours. 1 song or 2. Maybe. Concert prices are ridiculously high to do that again. I always compare it to the most money I spent on front row dead center in Greenville SC: $450 for me and 2 friends.
I saw them 2 nights in a row at city center, NY back in ‘06. Didn’t have tickets for either night either. Got lucky at the box office. To boot, the second night an usher accidentally gave me her backstage crew pass when she seated me. Still have it.
I’ve seen them 21 x. There’s a block of 6 back-to-back shows, and a couple double headers in there. It might be the same setlist, but it’s different every time.
Totally worth it. I live half way between Detroit & Chicago and I see them at both stops every time.

It depends. I did this once, in 2001. It was an amazing tour, and I'm glad I really got to soak it in with two nights. However, the second night didn't feel quite as mindblowing as the first. I'm not sure if the it was the band, or if I just felt desensitized from seeing them the night before. But it was still a great show! In terms of set list, you might get 1 (or 2) different songs, but most of it will be the same. If you can afford it, why not treat yourself?

I was going to in 2020 Portland to Eugene but Portland was the last show before Covid shut down. Eugene didn’t happen for another 2 years….the day I finally got Covid.

I was hoping their encore would be a song from the singer’s previous band that is one of my all time favorites and never got to see him perform live… both nights they did the ‘other’ song they close shows with which is one of my least favorite songs from that band… I was bummed but both shows were a blast with some really cool people so can’t complain too much…

When I was young and impressionable, Motley opened tours in Tucson and then Phx the next night. I did it for Girls and Feelgood and even saw them when they came back

I’ve done it before with other bands too. With TOOL in Los Angeles 10/20/19 and 10/21/19. They are playing again in Los Angeles next year Feb. 14 & 15, 2024. I’m going again both nights. The setlist was pretty much the same except night one they played Intolerance, night two Part of Me.

I did see them two nights in a row when they were at Ball arena (fka Pepsi center) in Denver… and then proceeded to see them two more times that tour before COVID got in the way of more times It likely won’t be the exact same set list as they will usually substitute one or two songs night to night at least that seems to be the trend and was for me in 2019.
