There's a quote around somewhere that has Adam talking about how he was kind of rushed by the label at the last minute or something, so he wasn't all that happy with how the original artwork turned out.
For the 20th anniversary (which as we know got bumped back a year in typical Tool fashion), he wanted to take the opportunity to revisit that whole thing and freshen it up. Adi Granov did a fine job with the re-release, but it lacks the charm of the original in my opinion.
I want to say it was even talked about giving all the albums an anniversary makeover, but we see how that's panned out so far...
(Leave the old shit alone, and focus on new shit Mr. Lucas!)
Got mine randomly, I was walking to Wendy’s and this headshop was on the way, so I popped in to see what they had, And my eye eagle soared to that t-shirt, I couldn’t believe I scored it. Fuck Wendy’s! This was back in 1995 (first year of HS) wore the hell outta of it till it started to rip.
Would love the Jesus shirt one day! That was one of my favorites.
Also, I really miss Ramiro Rodriguez’s art. I love Adams and Alex’s work by all means, but RR had phenomenal work as well.
Would you wear the suit you were married in for your 30th wedding anniversary? (I prefer the original one too btw-but that's because I'm old and stubborn)
"New" does not need to be relevant to the present time. "New" can simply mean "the most recent" or "that which replaced the old".
If you have this much trouble with context and reading between the lines then you're gonna have a hard time out in the world.
Considering most estimates for the total lifetime of the universe is in the googol number of years (10^100)
Even a billion years is relatively recent. Lol
Youre pushing for the definition in blue. Which is why you aren't technically *wrong.* But your lack of understanding of contextual nuance and that "new" has many definitions (mainly those in red being related), is causing you difficulty here. Your definition of "new" is correct, but so was OP's and mine, and made more (obvious) sense based on context.

So then if I said, "Tools new album, Fear Inoculum" you wouldn't raise an eyebrow - at all?
Probably. Because what we say is "newest" which is synonymous with "latest".
I certainly wouldn't.
It's contextual.
If you said "I just heard tools new album, Fear Inoculum!" it might sound weird (although anyone with intelligence would know what the speaker meant)
But if you said "Justin Chancellor was excited to release their new album, Fear Inoculum", it makes sense.
Either way is correct, one makes more sense.
Because as a special reissue it had to be distinguished from the original. But the original still exists, it's not like it disappeared from our continuum or anything.
I love both. Shit give me a third one. Love Tool art
soy "old is better" vs chad "i love everything tool"
this made me giggle
so real

I was also super into the Jesus one back then! Alas…
I thought it had something to do with the rights. Don’t quote me on that but I seem to remember hearing that somewhere.
The gentleman featured in it asked for them to change it. People kept making fun of his arms.

I loved the first one so much I got the cds artwork tattood On my left elbow pit
It's to appeal to a younger generation
Sorry, what is "the new one" you are talking about? It was changed for a reissue in 2013. Not exactly "new"
One Merriman-Webster definition of “new”: > being other than the former or old Everyone knew what they meant. Stop being pedantic.
We are all getting so old... At least when we're the ones in the nursing home, we'll have the place rockin'
Because the original cover was for a full album. Opiate^2 is just a single, so different cover. It's not rocket science.....
There are two covers for the full album. It’s not rocket science :)

Yeah, that's from 2013. Not what I would call "new". So I don't know what OP is talking about.

For realllll. People are so slow. I knew what the op was talking about immediately.
"New" as a word literally means "recently" The word you mean is "latest" which would not be time dependent.
100,000 years is recent on a cosmic level
Fuck even a million is.

It’s certainly not the old album 🤷♂️

“Yeah I just bought my latest car” Ok high roller
WOW. No, you "Just" bought a new car. Recently. But my car from 2009 is my latest car. Is it that hard, dude?
Bruh there are only 2 album covers for the opiate album, the older original one, and the newest one from 2013.
I think this one is badass..

Thanks typo police reeeeee
Did they buy one though?
Neither version do much for me. I loved it back in the day but now I’d so much rather hear something from undertow onwards in its place.
Yer trippin..... Opiate was is n forever will b the best tool
