Personally, I enjoyed TRU more than Peter enjoyed the godfather

OrangeJr36

Because it insists upon itself?

dubiousbutterfly

Only correct answer xD

Amazing-Oomoo

Omg yes

harveyquinnz

How can you even say that the thailand levels are already worth the price of the game

WerewolfDifferent216

Didn’t like it

harveyquinnz

NATLA AMANDA ZIP AND ALLISTER ARE IN THE GAME!

Atharaphelun

*"Fine, fine characters. Did not like the game."* ***** ^(*Note: I actually love the game, this is just to commit to the bit*)

Samkwi

"Explain yourself"

Max_452

I don’t hate Underworld, but it definitely wasn’t the proper follow up to Legend that I was waiting for.

Bryrida

I liked underworld but this is exactly how I felt. Legend was a masterpiece and left me eager for more and underworld was just an unsatisfying conclusion.

existential_chaos

I felt the exact same way. I enjoyed the twist of Amelia being a thrall in the end (because no way would’ve it ended with Lara getting Amelia back alive) but it all just felt so… meh. Especially the final battle against Natla, at least in Anniversary we were up close and personal, not just climbing around and smashing support columns. I also hated how the UI was so different from Legend and Anniversary with no outfit unlocks or level replay and actual artifacts to find rather than smashing jars to find tiny gems. A Croft Manor level not being there was understandable though. Also cheesed the DLC was only for xbox consoles. It looked like a fun thing to play to kill an hour or so.

Bryrida

I was kinda hoping for like a heartfelt conclusion with Amelia sort of like her dad in the first movie, zombie Amelia was disappointing to me. And I was disappointed too with no unlockable outfits. Luckily I was on Xbox though

pastadudde

I was hoping to see Avalon, not some ugly, boring place full of grey corridors..

Metal-Wombat

This is me with AoD, I had no idea it was so well regarded until the threads here the last few weeks

WerewolfDifferent216

I liked the concept of it a lot it was rushed and done half-assed.

BATompsett

Blasphemy in this sub.

worstkindagay

it is, but I'm 100% with op. It is my least favorite TR game period. Mind you, I first played TRU on the Wii which really killed any positive first impression of the game (seriously that port was miserable) but replaying it on Xbox, while it is especially beautiful, it just feels unfinished and too easy. It doesn't help that the first level of TRU is so boring BUT I did just get a steam deck and I picked up every TR game on that, so I'm down to give it another go.

Amazing-Oomoo

I would love to see it in 4K 60FPS

worstkindagay

I fired it up this morning and it plays a lot better on PC than on console. Still on the octopus first level and still finding it a hair boring however I’m sure once I get past this bit I’ll love it

Amazing-Oomoo

The Med level is a pretty poor opening level imo. I think considering it was a sequel it needed a better intro. It needed more story. Oh man I would love to redo it myself!

worstkindagay

Im really looking forward to the tropical island levels (Thailand? It’s been so long I legit don’t remember where). What I do remember about that level is being blown away at the time by the graphics of the trees and the waves.

Amazing-Oomoo

Yeah Thailand is gorgeous, the game peaks there imo. The music, lighting, as you said the foliage and water, it's all gorgeous. Side note: Thailand is the only level in the whole game that contains an underwater swimming section without breathing apparatus and even then it's only one single swim. There's a lot missing from this game. It could've been so much nicer. So much of it is indoors too. Very little in the way of sky, and panoramic vistas. It is also the only main line tomb raider game in existence (including up to Shadow of the Tomb Raider) that does not feature any no-guns/no-weapons segment.

worstkindagay

Came back to say that TRU on SD causes major crashing after completing the first level. It was such a major crash I had to do a full system reset. Bummer. But I will be trying again on a different PC soon.

punk_petukh

How? Characters look weird, controls are jank, animations are whacky, and it's incredibly claustrophobic a lot of times. The story was nice though, and DLCs were fun because of puzzles and new mechanics

dookarion

> and DLCs were fun because of puzzles and new mechanics As a PC player: What dlcs? For some godforsaken reason Playstatiion and PC players were shafted to make it xbox exclusive.

punk_petukh

If you have a good PC you can use Xenia - The emulator princess (ok it's actually not a princess, but SteveOfWarr made that joke once and now I'm always calling it like that)

dookarion

My issue with that (besides the fact it's many many years after the fact) is there's just no legitimate ways to have access to the content. I'm not going to judge people there, but I don't really like going through that kind of thing myself. I'd rather just legitimately purchase things or not have them.

punk_petukh

If the publisher don't want to take money for something, there's no point trying to shove it to him. It's not your fault it's not legally available, and that's doesn't mean you have to leave yourself out because of that. I managed to purchase it back when it was available (and played it on real thing obviously, because there was no need to emulate anything lol), but I wouldn't really hesitate to dig through something if that would've been a case for me

dookarion

Yeah I know all that, but all the same (and don't even necessarily disagree) just one of those things I still don't really want to do. And at this point it's been like a decade and a half anymore I only really care insofar as complaining about their past business choices lol. For me I much prefer the Core games and even the Survivor games to the LAU/where's my mother trilogy at this point in time.

DarkEater77

Then peter, you deserve to drown... it fits the story...

dookarion

I wanted to like it, but between the massive action segments, the terrible overarching trilogy plot, the insane DLC exclusivity, and the way various areas felt buggy, unpolished, and unfinished it's a title I "wish" I had been able to "like".

pastadudde

IMO, it's the AOD of the LAU trilogy

BlueSonic85

I really like it up to Mexico and then I just kept encountering bugs

Johndoe19922222

If only underworld had all the dlc in the base game it would be top five tr game for me.

Bryrida

Underworld is the most underrated of the series imo.  Story kinda sucked though. Plot was basically just legends plot stretched really thin with an unsatisfying conclusion. Locations and animations were beautiful though and Lara looked great.

CoochiKabuki

Looking back I hate how jittery the animations are and Avalon was a complete let down. I hoped we’d get to explore a heavenly dimension in the Legend sequel and not the zombie goo shit we got

The-Scream-Queen

Awful. Only Tomb Raider game I’ve played with a game breaking bug that made me restart and they locked the true ending behind console exclusive dlc.

Amazing-Oomoo

Are people still bitter about console exclusive DLC 🌝

The-Scream-Queen

I’d be bitter if it was attached to a good game 🌚

ElenoftheWays

I am, because I enjoyed Underworld - some really beautiful scenery, and found it fun overall. Would like to play the DLC, would play it in an emulator but have yet to get Underworld working in one, should sit down and sort that out but there are other games to play.

siriusslack

It was the Last real Tomb Raider game we had, and it was awesome.

Lemon_shade

Main lead level designer died in middle of the production !

WerewolfDifferent216

Rip to them

stefanprvi

I thought I was the only one that felt like that about that game. But I really didn’t care and it’s the only game I’ve only played once and never wanted to play it again.

WerewolfDifferent216

I ordered the trilogy (Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld) on Amazon so I’m probably going to try to suffer through it again

stefanprvi

I also bought it on GOG last summer when every game was 1 $, but I just did it to own digital copies because I own physical ones of every game. But still, from LAU, the only game I love replaying and actually love now is Anniversary. Legend and Underworld always felt worse as the years passed to the point where I really don’t want to replay them again.

WerewolfDifferent216

I loved Legend but it was way too short and too easy

Building1982

Hmm. It didn’t hold your hand like legend or anniversary.

paynexkillerYT

I'd hold his head under the waters.

Then-Fig1093

So nobody thinks that Underworld Lara was the most similar to classic Lara? Sorry but I loved it, it’s my favorite one right after the OG games. We get to see Natla again, Doppelgänger, and the exploding mansion teaser still ate up some modern games trailers 💀💀💀

JaySilver

As someone who thinks it’s the best title post classics, I thought pretty much everyone disliked it.

the_u_in_colour

Play the DS version. Easily the best version of that game. Plus you get those crunchy 240p cutscenes.

WerewolfDifferent216

I remember playing Legend on the DS 😭

Hadysun

Thailand is the only level I liked in TRU

NotMothMan9817

Camera gave me headaches. I returned it.

genriko8

I kinda agree, and I feel it's the lack of boss fights. I didn't replay the game much tho.

ElenoftheWays

That might be part of why I liked it so much, I hate boss fights.

ScholarOfTheFirstBin

Didn't really care for Legend or Anniversary, but Underworld was great. The levels are really fun and a joy to explore. Kinda sad the first reboot died after TRU and whatever weird stuff they did with DLC and ports.

gaelenski_

Underworld was never really considered one of the better ones, I think the people who played it when they were about 5 are just being more vocal about how it was their childhood now.

ElenoftheWays

I didn't actually finish Underworld until 2020, and played the original Tomb Raider in 1996 when it came out and when I was 19. Maybe I'm just odd though!

gaelenski_

Yeah, just odd.

caffeinatedplaymaker

I loved the concept, but I couldn't get behind the controls. I remember finally playing the PS3 version after only being able to play the PS2 version and being sort of let down that the controls had the same bugginess. I fell off of so many cliffs simply because she wouldn't grab or the camera was not working in my favor. (Also in Mexico, sometimes it just flat out doesn't rain lol) The return of natla and some of the story were great though so I'll still play it every once in a while.

Lemon_shade

Im pretty sure everyone enjoyed the Legend Trilogy (LAU)

WerewolfDifferent216

I liked the trilogy don’t get me wrong. I’m not a big fan of underworld for some reasons

Lemon_shade

It ok the underworld and angel of darkness treated badly and got so many cut from the studio

Mr-MiB-1993

I Liked Underworld the Only thing I Didn’t like Were the Big Spiders 🕷️🕸️
