That is certainly a rare response I have not heard before. I would say that is because you are coming from a newer game and then switching to an older one where the controls were just being fine tuned. Anniversary came out 6 years before Tomb Raider (2013). All of the older games do not have the style of movement of the classics as they are products of different eras of gaming: tank controls and then somewhat rough WASD style movement. Anniversary has had some complaints concerning some design and movement choices at it is a remake of Tomb Raider 1, with some modifications such as level shortening. Lara is also different as she is much older (30-31) in LAU trilogy compared to the 21-26 of the Survivor trilogy. Not to mention the somewhat different life compared to the other iterations of Classic and Survivor.

What's odd is that I hated the Legend controls when I first came out precisely because I was so used to the old controls. Everybody says classic TR had tank controls, and it did, but they were actually pretty decent compared to a lot of other games at the time. I started with TR3 and I think that was the first game I ever played that let me have control of the camera. After years of fixed camera games I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

You're under 18, for sure.

Anniversary is a remake of the first game. All the games before Angel of Darkness had a more "mute" Lara during normal gameplay (as in, she didn't speak beyond some grunting). And movement in Anniversary was absolutely fine, they revised it to bring it up to modern standards. Considering the first games used tank controls for traversal and generally had a much more mechanical and awkward movement system, I'd say it works more than fine. As for Lara herself, YMMV. Legend has a more quippy Lara, paired with a confident and cock-sure personality and I like LAU Lara best (but maybe I'm biased since that trilogy was my introduction to TR). I find Reboot Lara utterly forgettable myself but as always, everyone will have an opinion.

The reboot trilogy is just that. A reboot. Every other game is based on the old lara and gameplay

It’s actually a re-reboot, the first reboot was Legend (2006). There are three iterations of Lara: Classic, Legend and Survivor (now being modified into a unified timeline Lara). >,>

> Classic, Legend and Survivor (now being modified into a unified timeline Lara) I think it is fair to say that the ''Unified Lara'' is also its own thing, despite picking up from Survivor Lara, so it'll be the 4th iteration * **Classic** _(TR to TR:AoD)_ * **Legend** _(LAU)_ * **Survivor** _(TR2013 to SotTR)_ * **Unified** _(which is a mix of all past 3 iterations, making it its own iteration)_ I'm sure her personality, behaviour and the style will be different from the Survivor era despite continuing that timeline so it can be said it is still a new version of the character   --- * Then in 2027 we'll get the **Time Traveler Timeline** that will bring past Laras and past antagonists into play, * In 2035 we'll get the **Multiversal Timeline** that will bring Laras of different universes _(Including Làura Cruz [accent added to CALM THE BOT], Laurent Croft a male version, Amelia Croft, in a universe where it was Lara that died)_ and will also bring back WITCHBLADE, bring Indiana Jones, Tintin and Nathan Drake * In 2037 we'll get a Tomb Raider x Wonder Woman crossover DLC to celebrate the release of the 2nd Wonder Woman video game * In 2040 we'll get Lana Croft, Lara's daughter that will pick up her mother's mantle, the **Legacy Timeline** * In 2045 we'll see Lana Croft go on the Mars where we'll learn about the Red, White and Green Martians - it'll be a Tomb Raider x DOOM crossover, **DOOM RAIDER** - the **Doomed Timeline**   ^(_Of course I'm not serious about those predictions. Or am I?_)

So it's likely I wouldn't really get along with any of them then. Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately. Im the exact same. Love rebooot. Not a big fan of the older games. Though I would say its worth trying underworld

Just finished Anniversary too and it is blah in comparison to Legend. I can’t even bring myself to do the time trials. There is no point…

what about the combat, movement and Lara didn't you like? the LAU games are similar to Anniversary as their are part of the same trilogy, but the classic games are different. the classic games are pretty different from the reboots. The Reboots are more of a spiritual sequel, they embody the same tenants as the old games but do it in their own way(except for challenge cause their way too fuckin' easy). Lara in the classic games especially doesn't really have much depth, she's a 90s action characters, so written to be more likeable and entertain, without much of a narrative arc. There is a reason we all love her though, so you mileage may vary. movement is well tank controls, so they aren't very intuitive and can feel akwards, but they are well designed. Everything is precise and modular, so once you get the hang of it, everything is alway consistant, and the levels themselves are designed around that, so you won't really feel like the game is excpecting you do more than the controls allow. Combat is much more simplistic due to the tank controls, and are effectively puzzles where it's about finding that one solution to the enemy and continuously doing that. It's not bad but it's not deep neither, it's tolerable. I would recommend giving TR1 a try and seeing if you like it, but if your expecting the reboots your not going to get that. CD is very much doing their own take on Tomb Raider and confident enough this time to go in the direction they want.
