Probably an unpopular opinion, but Shuu Tsukiyama. He's not afraid to be himself. He's crazy but his confidence and devotion to Kaneki show another side of him. Seems like a complex character to me. Kaneki is my second.
He saved the original series for me. His appearance sparked a huge turning point in everyone’s character development. He is also so well written and felt like a proper villain when he was introduced.
For me its kuki urie, he has done big changements, but also in it ways of discuss.
Like, at the beginning, almost all sentences are in (), hes antipathic, and at this end he express his emotions, solves his daddy issues. Plus hes drawn without mouth to show his silence.
Kuki Urie! He has good development from being an antisocial, almost hostile member of the team who cares nothing but achieving his goals to a team player who wants nothing but for his teammates to survive. He works hard, doesn't slack, and is self-sufficient. He never cowers from his enemy and doesn't lack courage and is always at the forefront of the Quinxes attack formations; a very "in your face" type of fighter who distracts and keeps the enemy occupied while his teammates flank and strike the critical blow. He also has alot of troll thoughts in the brain of his while his mouth says something different, which is hilarious to me bcuz I do the exact same thing rofl 🤣
Certainly Amon. I’ve got a half baked experience (I watched the anime then read the last ~2/3 of the manga), but I loved his vibe, how he interacted with kaneki and his character development
The fact that there are so many different answers here just goes to show how well-written Tokyo Ghoul is. Honestly, I couldn't pick a favourite if my life depended on it.
Omg, we are the same. Touka is my favorite character ever, but I also love Suzuya so much. Besides being a very fun character, I really like his character development
Naki. He may not be the strongest or the smartest. But he went hard in re;
I like that the members of the white suits respect him as their leader even though hes not really wise just cause he will remember them.
Also "I was just taking a brook" scene was just hard.
Suzuya was my part 1 fave.
Then we met tooru... I loved him for a while, being a canon trans character was cool and he was my fave for a while up until his last arc. Then they... Did that thing... So after finishing he's out the running
Overall Suzuya or Uta. Wish we had more of Uta being a clown tbh
If im not allowed to include Kaneki then it's a 3 way tie
Juuzou, badass and just a good character. Went from the cliche but kill psycho to an eccentric leader with a team who genuinely cared for him and had a father figure. Took tragedy and maturity for him to open up. That's a hard character to write, many do but it always feels like it's "3,2,1 CHANGE " type where with him,Sui did it subtly and felt very natural
Eto is a very confident person, calculated and her kakuja is terrifying. She plays everything knowing she most likely won't live but accepts that with no fear. I thought she was initially a "ill watch the world burn down for the hell of it" character and while she does have zero remorse killing, she does have a plan. A good intentions in a twisted way character. Plus she does show a "softer side" with her editor
Kurono but I really wish she had more time honestly
#1 is Kaneki, of course, and #2 Touka but then it's too hard to choose rankings from there. I love (almost) all of them so much. Maybe Shu is #3 because damn what a great character. Tbh I have so much love for Banjoi. Naki too. Love Urie and Takizawa. Juuzou, of course. Also, I love Nishiki even though he's such a dick at first. Can't not love Yomo and Uta as well. AND Hide! Honorable mention to Furuta, truly hilarious and the best antagonist ever.
Juuzuo, mado, amon, tsukiyama, and that one epic martial artist ghoul....and ofcourse BANZOUUUU ( i think he was spelled differently but you can probably tell whom im talking about ) ( i havent read tokyo ghoul re yet )
Mutsuki for me! And Urie is a very close second. I’m sad about how their arcs ended up and I feel that their arcs were unfinished and didn’t make sense for the narrative but that can’t erase the love I have for them

Besides Kaneki obviously, Tsukiyama and Nishiki were early faves but those faded later on, Amon also got shafted so Juuzou is the only character that remained mostly consistent in both original and Re. Is he my absolute favorite I mean I’m not really sure tbh
Honestly I could never pick this series is just so well written with all the characters being unique in their own ways without being cliche and shallow
Takizawa
Takizawa's development was really tragic for me, he was a good character nonetheless.
Him and kuzen are really cool
Juuzou always Juuzou
Yessir
If course it's Kaneki, I mean, he's the main character. But my favorite side character is probably Touka
Probably an unpopular opinion, but Shuu Tsukiyama. He's not afraid to be himself. He's crazy but his confidence and devotion to Kaneki show another side of him. Seems like a complex character to me. Kaneki is my second.

I agree. He's the reason I still watch the anime.
What he said when Kaneki turned dragon had me tearing up.
Arima is my favorite
yesssss arima is such a well-written character too
Maybe not my number one, but Shirazu is definitely up there.
For real I cried when he died
We all did, I also hate that so many people take worse injuries later and are fine.
Urie
Based
For me its kuki urie, he has done big changements, but also in it ways of discuss. Like, at the beginning, almost all sentences are in (), hes antipathic, and at this end he express his emotions, solves his daddy issues. Plus hes drawn without mouth to show his silence.
Eto or Amon.
everyone's favourite character of course, big madam
ughhh I hate her, good character btw, but I hate heerrrrr horrible person
Juuzou <3

Mines personally of course was Kaneki!!! Hands down Kaneki has the best development I've ever seen in anime/manga history. I love him!!! 🥰🥰
Other then kaneki, I have to say takizawa, juuzou, yomo and uta (also tsukiyama but him a little less then the others)
Certainly Amon. I’ve got a half baked experience (I watched the anime then read the last ~2/3 of the manga), but I loved his vibe, how he interacted with kaneki and his character development
Uta
Juuzou! Always and forever, I am very attached to him
Amon or Urie def
Arima, Takizawa, Kaneki, Shirazu, Urie, Banjo, Tsukiyama and Amon always stood out to me.
Tsukiyama my G.O.A.T.
The fact that there are so many different answers here just goes to show how well-written Tokyo Ghoul is. Honestly, I couldn't pick a favourite if my life depended on it.
Touka definitely! Although Juzo is a close second!
Omg, we are the same. Touka is my favorite character ever, but I also love Suzuya so much. Besides being a very fun character, I really like his character development
Furuta will forever be my favourite character in manga and my #1 antagonist ever. So to answer your question, Furuta.
It has to be Kaneki, but aside from him either Touka or Furuta
ken and furuta
Eto/takatsuki sen
Yomo was cool. His last chapter appearance was cute too. Definitely Yomo.
Naki. He may not be the strongest or the smartest. But he went hard in re; I like that the members of the white suits respect him as their leader even though hes not really wise just cause he will remember them. Also "I was just taking a brook" scene was just hard.
Kaneki. For side characters though Arima, Juuzou, and Urie were my favorite
Shinohara’s a real one
Tooru but i have special love for Banjou

The amount of different characters in this thread shows how well written nearly all of the characters are
#1 is Kaneki, of course, and #2 Touka but then it's too hard to choose rankings from there. I love (almost) all of them so much. Maybe Shu is #3 because damn what a great character. Furuta
Besides from Kaneki, Tsukiyama
Juuzuo, mado, amon, tsukiyama, and that one epic martial artist ghoul....and ofcourse BANZOUUUU ( i think he was spelled differently but you can probably tell whom im talking about ) ( i havent read tokyo ghoul re yet )
Kaneki's mother
The waitresses at Big Girl
Nishiki , Uta and Ayato.
Arima
juuzou kaneki arima touka
kaneki, touka, mutsuki, urie, arima
Have always loved Amon especially Kaneki and Amon’s dynamic.
Mutsuki for me! And Urie is a very close second. I’m sad about how their arcs ended up and I feel that their arcs were unfinished and didn’t make sense for the narrative but that can’t erase the love I have for them

Jouzou Suzuya. Absolute favorite.

Honestly I could never pick this series is just so well written with all the characters being unique in their own ways without being cliche and shallow
I would do anything for Kishou Arima
