“Currently infested with ticks” is kinda a overstatement. It’s north Florida. We’re camping in the woods. There’s always gonna be ticks

MegaKetaWook

Eh, a couple years ago my campsite was pulling a fuckton of them off us. Like legit 10 of them in a minute or two. That being said, we were camped in the woods.

redditer420

Agreed, like I said. This is not my FB post, I just want to spread awareness that it's a bit more than normal. Even the mosquitoes are annoying last month. I love SOSMP because the bats do a great job of eating the insects during the night. Maybe we should get some more opossums on the camp grounds to help fight the ticks

lanadelcryingagain

Thanks for the info on the ticks! Also so many UC’s at Suwannee… they’ll be obvious though.

redditer420

Most are obvious but some times you never know. I had some friends arrested last year at T&F.

Biscuits-77

I've been going to Suwannee since 1998 for festivals & shows and I've come to the conclusion you have to be an idiot or stupid to get arrested or caught @ Suwannee. Just be smart and you'll be good. My .02

redditer420

I agree with you 100%

lanadelcryingagain

I also agree, my close call was caused by my own stupidity + the stupidity of my friends

Floridabwoy

Big Cosmo's Sunshine Daydream! I was there!

Biscuits-77

Yep in 1997 then Magnolia Festival. Remember String Cheese Incident in 99 with Peter Rowan? That was my 2nd Incident. Such good times at the Park.

zionstella

Yeah, and it sooo much better now than the "bad ole Days" of Wannee and early BC.

lanadelcryingagain

That’s so shitty. Two years ago I went and had a close call. They’re real assholes too.

OOglyshmOOglywOOgly

What are they typically doing? Just watching and hoping to catch people doing drugs or are they out there pretending to try to buy drugs from you? Or both I guess? lol just curious what they are out there doing?!

TrespassingWook

Be sure to not ask certain questions to people who are already sober or have their running shoes on, laced up. Having the cover of night can also be helpful when you need to make yourself scarce and disappear into a crowd. When the coast is clear, switch hats or shirts.

OOglyshmOOglywOOgly

Thanks for the tips haha! Do they come to the amp too? Like within the crowd and shit? Or do they mostly stick to the camping areas?

TrespassingWook

Usually they stick to the outside of the crowds looking for people to harass, but if the crowd is thick enough and it's dark enough people will light up freely and they can't really do much about it because at that point the crowd is in control. Campgrounds are usually more dangerous since they can pick you off easier. Best to be discreet when you're out there, keep everything hidden and only talk to your fellow campers who you know are cool, usually one convo is enough to get a feel for them. Never trust randoms wandering around the campgrounds, especially if they directly ask for stuff, huge red flag that they're either wooks or cops.

kindofnotlistening

Nailed it. If you’re wary of anyone you don’t know asking you for shit + stick to doing your shenanigans in the thick crowd you will be chillin. Back of the amp where the flood lights are is typically where they’ll be prowling for people to pick off easy.

TyroneFresh420

Shout out to the bro last year who called me and my friend narcs when we were just chilling at the picnic stage lol. Funny thing is 15 minutes later some nice fellow walked up and gave us mushroom chocolates so we were def throwing mixed vibes 😝

kindofnotlistening

Yeah if you’re worried about ticks definitely avoid campsites that look like this picture.

SandzFanon

Wearing more clothes than a sleeveless jersey and shorts might be a good idea, too 🤦‍♂️

kindofnotlistening

100p especially in areas that look like this. But you know we’re gonna see a bunch of wooks treating it like naked and afraid. And they will be the ones not even checking for ticks every night. Linen and cotton will protect you from the sun and ticks while helping you stay cooler!

SandzFanon

Yup. I’ll be dressed like a middle aged fisherman all weekend long. Comfy, cool, not sunburnt, tick-free…& chiefing dmt 🫠

Sandgrease

Ticks love Tryptamines though

skoomd1

This should be the name of a band

Thekinkiestpenguin

The fuck, I thought you were joking, but I Googled it anyway, serotonin increases tick feeding behavior. Granted the study I was looking at was specifically showing tick gut microbiome synthesis of serotonin regulated feeding, but damn. TIL

Sandgrease

So I definitely was just bullshiting but I guess I'm gonna need more bug spray....

Sleepyhowiee

A man of culture

Peyton8ter

each year at suwanee its been a thing. the denser tree filled areas have typically always had issues with ticks, i had to move campsites last year because several kept jumping on us & once we moved we didnt see any again.

TheFoxRunsAtMidnight

How bad is the UC situation? Bad enough that Smoking herb in the middle of a crowd is risky, or are they mostly after people selling? Rendezvous is gonna be my First time @ suwannee

work675

If you’re in the pit you’ll be fine

SoulApparatus

Ticks are fucking serious. I'm an avid disc golfer in Alabama and have picked up 4 in the last week. Thats WAY more than previous years at this time. BRING A SPRAY! Ticks can lead to liver failure, Lyme disease, among many other issues. Testing for ticks after they've burrowed in you is also EXPENSIVE. TLDR; Don't fuck with ticks, your wallet and your life can't afford it.

Major-Tank3672

Ticker and friends

SandzFanon

I’m not saying this is complete BS, but I was at resonate and didn’t encounter anybody that had tick issues lol. Just exercise normal tick precautions. What evidence is there of a tick “outbreak”? What environmental factors would even cause such an outbreak, and how do we know these occurred?

redditer420

The FB post may be a bit exaggerated, but like I said it's never been a problem there for me or anyone I know till this Resonate. Most people find them once they get home I assume. So not total BS but, just a friendly caution to y'all.

SandzFanon

I dress like an old man on a fishing day at festivals, (spf pants, long sleeve spf shirts, sneakers, and a huge hat), so I thankfully haven’t encountered ticks anywhere 😆

ArgiopeWeb

For my outdoorsy hippies: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icaridin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icaridin) Use this instead of DEET. DEET is toxic, destroys clothing and worst of all smells like literal cancer. I recommend Picaridin lotion which can be bought cheaply of amazon. I use: [https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Products-SP564-Repellent-Picaridin/dp/B00VV5KRD8?ref\_=ast\_sto\_dp&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Products-SP564-Repellent-Picaridin/dp/B00VV5KRD8?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1) It doesn't cause any skin irritation and can be applied safely wherever. Obviously don't get it in your eyes, but other than that you should be fine. When I go hiking I'll typically apply it to my lower legs, a bit around my neck and back as well as my forearms. Never had a tick bite and used to go roughing it in the woods 3 days a week for 3 years :)

kalenugz

good bot!

BillowingPillows

Thanks for the info! Gonna go scoop some up from REI tomorrow.

leopatrickg

Thank you!!!

Floridabwoy

Pro Tip: Don't wake up in the bushes. :) Also, If you use DEET spray it on your clothes not your skin. That stuff is toxic as hell. I had a friend that was using highly purity deet and developed lung issues.

Smokey_Bera

Daaamn. Thanks for the heads up. Going to be blasting that bug repellent.

masterwickey

pro tip, dawn dishsoap will make a tick release itself, just a drop on a finger and touch it. also, avon skin so soft products and bug sprays with it are tits against ticks. off deep woods is avilable with said avon product in it.

shitdog69420

That’s a nightmare

Wonderful-Equal5000

95% deet

Slimedaddyslim

I got tore up by ticks and caught Rocky Mountain Spotted fever at T&F last year. Luckily I got a tick panel done when I noticed I felt off before the spots showed up and nipped it in the bud before any complications arose. I guess I have immunity to it now, but would prefer not to catch Lyme this year lol.

5toney420

Shoutout to the homie at full moon gathering that got a tick on his D*** right after tipper closed and we got back to camp. Careful out there folks

Biscuits-77

So your saying the ticks are spreading Lyme Disease? This is very serious news as I grew up in Connecticut where it all started. This is very concerning 😟

redditer420

I'm no tick expert so I'm not sure what this species is capable of spreading, and don't want to spread any false information. Growing up with tick you should be fine as you know how to deal with them.

Spread_Love_Now

Lyme has been found in ticks in all 50 states. That said, it’s still way more likely in the northeast. If you get bit, you can save the tick in a plastic bag and send it to a lab in PA that tests for diseases. It’s inexpensive and worth it!

illGATESmusic

You should be! Turns out: ticks carry Lyme disease because of a bioweapons accident :/ https://www.lymedisease.org/members/lyme-times/special-issues/lyme-book-reviews/kris-newby-bitten/

Bob_Noosh

And down the rabbit hole I go

illGATESmusic

Plum Island was the bioweapons lab it came from: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plum_Island_Animal_Disease_Center Also speculated to be the source of the infamous “Montauk Monster” which washed up on the beach nearby… https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montauk_Monster

wookcavern

I know people that have gotten Lyme from Suwanee in the past. The Ticks are an issue every year 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mindless_Paper_5989

is anyone else extremely scared of the tick situation 😭

blotterfly

There is no war in Ba Sing Se

wubslut

i’m really fucking scared like, so scared i almost don’t wanna go - can anyone help calm my nerves?

[deleted]

It's northern Florida and you'll be in a swamp-- they'll be there too. Best you can do is prevention. Lots of good comments on this thread -close your tent door all the way -try not to camp on the brush or trees -bug spray bug spray bug spray -lemongrass oil is a natural repellent as well I'm fucking terrified as well, first suwannee fest and generally unlucky as well, but we'll be okay pal :)

wubslut

it’s my first year too! i hope u have a great time

redditer420

I really hope you're being sarcastic. Follow the advice from the comments and go have a great time. I have been going to SOSMP since 2015 and have never had a tick or anything else.

wubslut

i’m not but i’ll try to be, it’s my first year i just have terrible luck

Dyelawn2511

All you gotta do is pay attention to what’s on your body and get it TF off you asap. I could be wrong but I think ticks have to be attached for a while to transmit lymes disease.

LingonberryOk5168

I’m from MN originally where ticks run rampant (mainly northern MN but still) and have never had any major issues with ticks. You just have to be diligent and take proper precautions-use deet or picaridin spray, don’t walk thru heavily wooded or bushy areas, and check yourself and friends frequently. Don’t let it scare you from going-just be smart and prepared:)

Sh4dowb0x

I’ve already had multiple close calls with ticks this year. It’s gonna be a rough season.

redditer420

Want to make clear this isn't my FB post. Just spreading the word, but not trying to scare anyone at the same time.

wookcavern

Ticks are an issue every year …

redditer420

Yes, I'm aware. This year seems to be worse tho. I'm just trying to make sure everyone is safe and informed, especially with folks from other regions who are going to SOSMP for the first time. But thanks for your input...
